Becca Beach Tint Lip Shimmer Souffles
Becca Beach Tint Lip Shimmer Souffles

Becca Beach Tint Lip Shimmer Souffle ($24.00 for 0.08 oz.) is supposed to be a “double dose of pigment and shimmer” that’s hydrating and leaves lips looking smoother with shine that “lasts for hours.” I found the texture of the gloss to be very different and hard to describe; it’s smooth, but almost dry and clingy, and it’s incredibly tacky after about fifteen minutes on the lips. The gloss is “marbled” as it combines two colors, and they do, in fact, twist out as two colors, and trying to mix them on the lips is not ideal. The applicator feels like a lightly flexible, silicone, slanted tip, but it’s silicone itself is slightly stiff and again, not ideal for application. Click-type glosses also contain less products than more conventional twist-top/doe-foot glosses. After I’d click up gloss, apply, and close, when I reopened, there would always be a blob of gloss waiting. The pigmentation tended to semi-sheer to semi-opaque, which sometimes applied quite unevenly. I will review the other three shades soon!

Becca Fig/Topaz Beach Tint Lip Shimmer Souffle ($24.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a muted, light-medium beige-brown with a very low-shimmer level. I don’t know if it’s just my particular product, but not a lot of the shimmery shade (Topaz) comes through on this–I think I wasted about half the gloss just trying to find it. It had semi-opaque coverage but looked streaky. It lasted for two and a half hours on me and was lightly drying. Marc Jacobs Beauty Uproar (336) (P, $28.00) is darker, more shimmery. Chanel Sensuel (11) (P, $34.00) is darker, warmer. NARS Shade II (LE, $26.00) is darker, more shimmery. MAC Courtly Coral (LE, $20.00) is more shimmery. Charlotte Tilbury Bardot Beige (P, $22.00) is similar. NARS Greek Holiday (P, $26.00) is more shimmery, warmer. Divergent Natural Virtue (LE) is darker. Maybelline Nude Illusion (060) (P, $8.99) is darker. Bobbi Brown Air Kiss (LE, $19.00) is pinker. MAC Peachstock (LE, $15.00) is more opaque. MAC 2N (LE, $15.00) is brighter. MAC You’ve Got It (LE, $20.00) is similar. Guerlain Browny Clap (P, $30.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

Becca Guava/Opal Beach Tint Lip Shimmer Souffle ($24.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a brightened, coral-pink with fine, light gold shimmer. Mixed, it becomes a slightly lighter, washed-out coral-pink with a sheen. It had mostly opaque coverage, but it settled a bit into lip lines after two hours of wear, and you could see “lines” if you pressed your lips together, which made it hard to keep even. It lasted for four hours on me and was neither drying nor hydrating. Make Up For Ever 203P Golden Pink (P, $19.00) is sheerer. Marc Jacobs Beauty Love Buzz (324) (P, $28.00) is sheerer. Surratt Beauty Soigne (P, $32.00) is darker. Revlon HD Petalite (540) (P, $8.99) is similar. Marc Jacobs Beauty Pink Diamond (326) (DC, $28.00) is sheerer. NARS Chihuahua (P, $26.00) is less shimmery. NARS Sweet Revenge (P, $26.00) is less shimmery. NARS Belize (P, $26.00) is less shimmery. Maybelline Caramel Infused (065) (P, $8.99) is less shimmery. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

Becca Lychee/Topaz Beach Tint Lip Shimmer Souffle ($24.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a cool-toned, cotton candy pink with strong, blue undertones and coppery shimmer. It had semi-opaque coverage that went on somewhat unevenly. It lasted for four hours on me, but it did pull into lip lines slightly, though it wasn’t drying. Urban Decay Failbait (P, $22.00) is less shimmery, warmer. Revlon HD Pink Sapphire (520) (P, $8.99) is cooler-toned, lighter. MAC Seeking Adoration (LE, $20.00) is darker. NARS Angelika (P, $26.00) is brighter. Maybelline Blush Essence (095) (P, $8.99) is darker. Urban Decay Lovechild (P, $19.00) is less shimmery. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

I’m was pretty interested in these. But,after reading the drawbacks you pointed out my curiosity has lessened. I definitely will wait for the overview on these and maybe try one first. There seems to be a surge of glosses hitting the market now. I am so over-stocked already. I think I have more than enough to get me through until fall already, lol and I am sure more are coming! lol. But, Out of these , I like probably Lychee/Topaz the best. But, it looks really similar to Guava /Opal to me.
Hope you have a lovely Mother’s day with you mom Christine! 🙂

I don’t think I’d bother – truly! They don’t have a lot of product either 🙁

Happy Mother’s Day, Nicole! Enjoy your day with your little one!

Thanks for your honesty. You know I value your opinion and I can’t think of any of your suggestions or reviews that didn’t work out for me. $ saved for something else!
Thank you-We had a good day. We saw my grandmother. I was wearing Gracia. She kept saying how much she loved my lipstick. I think I may buy her one as part of her birthday gift in June. She wears lipstick to sit in the house! 🙂

Shame that these didn’t perform better. I always like how pretty the marbled glosses look in the tube, though. Takes me back to the Bonne Bell days!

Becca has done really well lately, so I was surprised that these turned out so poorly. I was skeptical (marbled gloss + click-type applicator), and unfortunately, that wasn’t unwarranted!

Hey hey hey! You made them look good on you! That’s a feat! I’m usually all over Becca, but these seemed doomed so I’ve not tried one. Apparently the consensus is that each container of the same shade IS different. Some just get shimmer, others nothing, but I’ve not heard many happy campers. It bums me out because I love hydrating lippies/balms/glosses/hybrids and Becca. The cling feeling does help to retain whatever moisture you put on initially… Maybe it’s meant as a topper? I’m still attracted to them but disappointed. This has been done so many times before! I expect more.

The reviews on Sephora are BAD. It’s SO rare to see such a low average rating… The texture is weird – I wish I could describe it better! Different than other glosses and not in a good way, haha.

Small quantity + the annoying mix of product you get out + uneven/streaky application + weird feeling – just a very odd product for a brand to release after so many hits.

🙁 Tony & Tina had a great one. I’m definitely miffed by these. Why not use the beach tint and pat some shimmering skin highlight over and add clear gloss? Or use the soufflés and add gloss? The soufflés are great! They can go anywhere! 🙂 I would have liked to be a fly on the wall when they were making these! 🙂

The last two are actually pretty but the formula and packaging sound like turn offs to me. They don’t seem comfortable to apply or wear.

They are weird to wear! It’s hard to say if it’s genuinely uncomfortable to wear, since the texture is very different, but after wearing six of them, they still always felt weird.

Total pass for me. As soon as I saw the applicator, I had misgivings. These “click” things usually dispense too little or too much product, are a mess, and stop “clicking” after a while. And not only do they contain less product, you usually can’t get to all of it because it’s trapped in that tube. And $24 is a lot for a gloss, especially one that’s tacky, settles into lip lines, doesn’t mix well, missing shimmer, etc. For $24, I could buy a nice quality lipstick, apply a little lip balm, and get a gloss out of it.

I think they would have been better off making a traditional lipgloss and mixing it for you, just using the two components (the color + shimmer), or doing the same with lipstick and so each lipstick would have the base color with a pearly, small-sized shimmer – glossy finish, so it would be more like a Guerlain Rouge G than a MAC Frost.

thanks for this review! I love how your cheeks look. What are you wearing on your cheeks (bronzer, blush, etc)? Also, have you thought about doing a general blog that covers other things like home decor, your day to day life, clothes, etc.? Your fans would love it! 🙂

I’m not into home decor or clothes, and I pretty much spend all day on Temptalia, so there’s nothing to write about, haha! I really don’t have the time or desire to write another blog since I’m already always behind on this one 🙁

Man, I hate glosses like these — click-pen applicators and those gimmicky marbled tubes. It’s a shame to see something so weird and plasticky-feeling coming from a company like Becca!

I think I’m gonna stick with Revlon HD Lipglosses, MAC lipglass and UD’s new lipglosses. These have too little product and just not impressive once applied, although they do look interesting in the tube.

I like the Guava but the Lychee is my favorite of the three. Since I went slightly overboard buying glosses last year, I won’t be purchasing any more for quite some time. Unless, of course, something truly beautiful and unique comes along to justify a purchase. =)

Christine, totally unrelated but, between KVD and MUFE, who’s eyeshadows do you think would perform the best on older, drier lids? I have the Innerstellar palette and it works beautifully but I only have two MUFE single shadows and I use those just in small areas on the lid. I’m thinking about picking up either one of the MUFE Artist Palettes or another KVD palette. Bottom line, which formula is less drying?

I love the color concepts Becca went for – I just wish they were easier to use and better!

I general, MUFE’s eyeshadows are more emollient/creamier, so I think those would work better, but if you really like the Innerstellar palette, I think her recent Shade + Light Eye/Monarch are quite comparable in formula texture.

I probably shouldn’t be trying to respond to you right now (under anesthesia) but… why not give it a go? LOL I think what you’re saying is, if the Innerstellar palette works great for me — I can’t go wrong no matter what I choose between KVD or MUFE. Both will perform well, I merely need to pick a palette based on the colors. =)

Thank you! I just wanted to double check before using a gift card I received.

Pretty much, Cat! I tend to lean towards the KVD for you, if only because you already know that formula does really well for you! 🙂

Hope you’re back to rights soon!

I’m so glad I did not jump all over these. Thank you for the review, Christine!

Guava/Opal is very much my thing and in that range of warm pink that works well for me in the summer months. I would have been all over it if the formula and packaging sounded more promising.

Shame about the texture. I really like lip tints for the summer when I feel a less opaque feels more fitting, and I was hoping the red would be worth a look. Ah well. Guess I’ll just have to lean on the rest of my MASSIVE red lipstick collection.

I picked this up in Lychee about a week and half ago. I am returning it this week. The product started out a little tackier than I normally like but I decided to stick it out. Now, in just a week and and a half, it has become incredibly chunky and sticky, creating a goopy pink cement. The applicator is so soft that it just goops all over your lips. It’s so gross and I’m very disappointed. But I do really love the Becca blushes, so there’s that at least.

I think it’s just great that there’s a glob there waiting for ya. Lol That & the color mixing on the lips makes these sound like a job & not a luxury purchase.
