bareMinerals The Glass Beach Eyeshadow Quad Review, Photos, Swatches
bareMinerals The Glass Beach Eyeshadow Quad
bareMinerals The Glass Beach Eyeshadow Quad ($30.00 for 0.17 oz.) is a new, limited edition set of shades for summer. I came across this on QVC when I bought The Nude Beach palette. According to bareMinerals, it was inspired by the coast of Northern California. All four shades had a muted quality to them, which made them appear more muddied applied to the lid than anticipated, and the somewhat powdery texture of the shades seemed to compound this problem. It’s an interesting set of shades, but the texture of these really needs the help of a primer, which would help the color adhere better to the skin. I packed and packed Sea Glass on like no tomorrow but really couldn’t get it to appear as it does in the pan. bareMinerals’ Ready formula is one of my favorites, because it is very, very pigmented, applies beautifully without primer, and wears long without fading or creasing, but this quad fell so short compared to other palettes and quads.
Pacific Sands is described as a “sunlit sand.” It’s a light, yellowed beige with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had good color payoff, but the texture was slightly powdery. This shade wore well for nine hours before fading. Kat Von D Entomology (P) is yellower. Divergent Altruistic Almond (LE) is similar. Urban Decay Bleach (LE, $18.00) is lighter. Urban Decay Foxy (P, $18.00) is similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Sea Glass is described as a “jade shimmer.” It’s a medium-dark, muted green-gray with a matte finish. It seemed to have good color payoff when I swatched it, but the powdery texture made it difficult for it to actually stay on the skin–it was very prone to sheering out with the merest touch of the brush. It wore well for eight and a half hours before fading. bareMinerals Velvet Emerald (LE, $14.00) is much greener and less gray (not really dupe, but it was the only other closest one besides Earth!). bareMinerals Earth (P) is darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Golden Coast is described as a “radiant copper.” It’s a muted, yellow gold with a soft, frosted finish. It had fairly good pigmentation, but the texture was a bit thinner and less buttery compared to most shades in the Ready formula. This shade stayed on without fading for nine hours. This shade doesn’t blend as well with the other three shades, possibly because of the difference in finish. Tarina Tarantino Mr. Gold (P) is similar. MAC Gilded Night #2 (LE, $21.00) is brighter. Urban Decay Strike (LE, $18.00) is similar. Urban Decay Blitz (LE, $18.00) is more shimmery, cooler-toned. MAC Sweet & Sour #1 (P, $21.00) is more shimmery. MAC Barefoot (LE, $15.00) is darker. Giorgio Armani #1 Spring 2012 #3 (LE) is brighter, warmer. Chanel Blazing Gold (LE, $28.50) is lighter. bareMinerals Remix (LE) is slightly brighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Tide Pool is described as a “shimmering coal.” It’s a dark, cool-toned brown with a gray edge and a satiny finish. It had rich color payoff, and the texture was soft without being powdery while wearing for almost ten hours before showing signs of fading. Too Faced Dolly (P, $16.00) is warmer. bareMinerals Perspective (LE) is slightly warmer. Urban Decay Smokeout (LE, $18.00) is cooler-toned, more shimmery. MAC Beluga (LE, $15.00) is darker. MAC Mystery (P, $15.00) is slightly warmer. bareMinerals Undercover (P) is lighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Wow, this is so pretty and muted in the pan. So sad it didn’t deliver.
Me too 🙁
I agree! I look at it and think “it could have been great”!
That a pretty quad But I am the 2 shades are going to look muddy on me! 🙁
I hear ya 🙁
I’ve had this for about a week or two but haven’t had a chance to break it out yet. I’m sad it didn’t rate higher but I still can’t wait to give it a try.
Let me know how it works for you, Christine!
For something named beach glass I expected something with more like seagreen and blue shades that were sheer.
Maybe because it’s northern California and they’re thinking of all the fog, lol!
It’s too bad about Sea Glass; it looks like such a great shade in the pan!
It seemed so unique!
Aww, sea glass could have been such an incredible shade! 🙁 I like the colour combination, but it feels a little embarrassed of its own pigmentation, somehow, so it hides! 😛
Haha!
I think I’m in love! These are perfect & I will make them deliver! I LOVE these colors! Shoulda woulda.. 😀
OH YES.. Beautiful eye!!!
Thank you!
I think if you use a good primer, you should be OK!
The design in the shadow is really nice. I’ll pass on this quad.
Better luck next time!
What are you wearing on your lower lash line?
Stila Turquoise & Stila Jade Smudge Sticks!
Thank you! So beautiful!
Trying to play catch up on posts.. crazy insane busy here..
Gah. OMG.I really love sea glass and would buy this palette alone for this shadow, but while your eye look is pretty, I can see the payoff is making me grimace. SAddddd.
I’m so there with you, Wendy. So much to love about that shade and it seemed promising… sigh.
what eyeliner did you used on you lower lash line. love that color

wow! in the first shot, your eye looks almost bare except for the inner corner. you usually pull out a great look, even with dismal products, but this just does not show up! it must be a total dud if you can’t even manage it. i will definitely have to skip!
It’s one of those types of textures that HAS to have primer, it needs something to really “stick” to. 🙁
Christine, can you recommend a good neutral / natural eyeshadow palette for warm toned, medium complexion with mostly matte / semi matte shades please? I was thinking about too faced natural eyeshadow neutral eyeshadow palette but was afraid it might be too glittery
theBalm’s Matte palette is probably one of the more matte palettes around!
Since the grey shade is an underperformer and I already have a lot of light golds I might give the BM ‘The Elements’ quad another look instead. I own one of their duos and I’ve been really wowed by how nice the quality and pigmentation level is.
Hopefully that one works instead!
The shades looks lovely in the palette but they are barely visible on lids.. 😛
wish the texture had been better..
Sad times 🙁
Love the name of this palette and the design, but I wish the rating was a tad bit higher!
Me too!
I am pretty satisfied with this palette. I use the Milani primer and didn’t have a problem with any of the shades, but I mainly used Sea Glass as a transition shade in the crease. I was hoping Pacific Sands was a little more pigmented however.
Glad the primer is helping!
