Ardency Inn Tangerine MODSTER Manuka Honey Enriched Pigments

Ardency Inn MODSTER Manuka Honey Enriched Pigments ($21.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a new eyeshadow formula that’s supposed to have “superior color payoff” and “ultralong-lasting wear, even without an eye primer” due to “high-grade silicon waxes.” This is an impressive eyeshadow formula, particularly if you love your shimmery finishes! I will review all twelve shades in due time, but you can view swatches of all of them here. The shimmer finishes have an extraordinarily creamy, buttery, smooth texture with amazing color payoff. The satin/matte finishes are soft, finely-milled, but less creamy and a bit powdery, but they remained blendable and fairly easy to use. The pearly shades seemed almost wet in the pan with less intensity and a slightly thinner consistency than the more frosted shades. All of the shades below lasted for ten hours on me without creasing/fading. And can we just have a moment to admire Royal?

Also, the pans seem to be only held in by a magnet, so if you have a stronger magnet (to lift it out) or steady hands and tweezer, they do come out of the pan.

Updated on 8/26 at 9:03PM PST: Thanks to reader Tugce, who visited Ardency Inn’s website and noted the following was listed: “In the USA, do not use “Royal”, “Orchid”, “Tangerine” and “Punch” near the eyes.” This is information that really SHOULD be listed on Sephora.

Ardency Inn Tangerine MODSTER Manuka Honey Enriched Pigments ($21.00 for 0.06 oz.) is described as a “matte yellow orange with a neon kick.” It’s a brightened, yellowed orange with a mostly matte finish. It had good pigmentation, and the texture was soft, finely-milled, and velvety, though a smidgen powdery. It lasted for ten hours before fading. Sleek MakeUP Acid #4 (P, $9.99) is a touch lighter. Wet ‘n’ Wild A Regular at the Factory #3 (LE, $2.29) is darker. Inglot #122R Top (P, $6.00) is yellower. Maybelline Fierce & Tangy (P, $6.99) is a cream product. MAC Juiced (DC, $15.00) is yellower. Illamasqua Vulgar (P) is darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Ardency Inn Orchid MODSTER Manuka Honey Enriched Pigments ($21.00 for 0.06 oz.) is described as a “bright fuchsia with extreme blue reflects.” It’s a vibrant, fuchsia-purple with cool, blue undertones and a bluish-violet shimmer-sheen. It had incredibly rich color payoff that went on smoothly and evenly, lasted for ten hours, and was a dream to apply. NARS Rage (LE, $24.00) is more muted, lighter. Maybelline Pink Rebel (P, $6.99) is lighter. Too Faced Totally Fetch (LE, $16.00) is pinker. Urban Decay Fishnet (P, $18.00) is more muted, less shimmery. MAC Stars ‘n’ Rockets (P, $15.00) is lighter. bareMinerals Boudoir (P) is more muted, less shimmery. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Ardency Inn Punch MODSTER Manuka Honey Enriched Pigments ($21.00 for 0.06 oz.) is described as a “matte bright coral with neon pink and yellow undertones.” It’s a brightened, coral-red with a matte finish and warm undertones. It had fairly good color payoff, while the texture was a little powdery, it was soft, finely-milled, and easy to blend. It lasted for ten hours before fading. Makeup Geek Razzleberry (P, $5.99) is more shimmery. MAC Full of Flavour (LE, $15.00) is lighter. MAC More Amour (P, $21.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Ardency Inn Royal MODSTER Manuka Honey Enriched Pigments ($21.00 for 0.06 oz.) is described as a “royal purple with red undertones and slight blue reflects.” It’s an insanely intense, vibrant violet purple with cool, blue undertones and a soft, frosted finish. A little goes a very long way with this shade! The texture was soft, buttery, and smooth, while it was easy to blend on the skin. It wore well for ten hours and still hadn’t faded/creased. Fyrinnae Parental Advisory (DC, $8.25) is lighter. Fyrinnae Parental Advisory (P, $6.80) is cooler-toned. Disney by Sephora Sea Witch (LE) is more muted. Urban Decay Ransom (DC, $18.00) is more muted. MAC Pink Union #2 (LE, $21.00) is slightly warmer. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

I’m going to end up with 10 of these… All of them are stunning, but I’ll have to pass on Tangerine & Copper.

I’m currently using the Ardency Inn Custom Color Concentrate, and aside from it being a tad too dark/warm, I think I’ve founf my HG foundation! I’m looking forward to trying more of the brand.

Royal MUST be mine! Orchid is lovely too. Reminds me of a more shimmery 2AM by Sugarpill in a certain, pinky-purple way. I love how you worked them off each other in the eye look. Beautiful colors. Thanks for the informative review.

Chanel Avatar

The orchid color reminds me of a eye shadow version of the Mac simpsons lip glass Itchy scratchy and sexy. I really love your eye shadow look, it looks so gorgeous and amazing and these eye shadows or pigments look great. You can never go wrong with colorful eye shadow.

Mariella Avatar

I’m still curious about the rationale behind the inclusion of manuka honey “extract”. I know of its values when taken internally and for some skin conditions, but in an eyeshadow, I wonder what it’s supposed to do besides just be a “buzz word ingredient”. I love the 2 purple shades but reds and oranges aren’t my thing.

Christine Avatar

According to the description on Sephora, it adds creaminess. “Mānuka Honey, a mono-floral honey produced in New Zealand and Australia from the nectar of the mānuka tree, was used for the first time in a color cosmetic formulation to provide unmatched creaminess and glide-on application.”

Sarah Avatar

OH MY GOODNESS.

Royal almost looks like a little bit brighter/lighter version of UD’s Urban from the Electric palette, which is one of the only colors I wanted in that palette. I’m going to need this.

Diane Avatar

I was scrolling through the colors, wondering how you’d put them together (purple and orange at the same time?!), and sure enough, you came up with a fantastic look! I love it!

I also love the pigmentation in these! Never heard of this brand before, but I’m definitely going to check it out!

Aditi Avatar

I love these colors, but I don’t think I’ll ever have a chance to wear them. I’m in love with the Rose Gold and Heaven shades though, and I’ll probably be picking them up sometime soon! 😀

Wednesday Avatar

I was thinking when I saw the lauch there had been others before covering this territory and doing it well, but I find my eyes bugged out on Orchid and Royal and of course, Punch. Even though it seems I reach for brights less and less these days, every once in awhile I still need a big kick of colour for fun. These would certainly do the trick. Kick Ass.

Rae Avatar

Dude, no one makes me want to play with colour like you do.

I have some Ardency Inn sitting around that I have yet to review, and this really makes me want to give the line another chance! I didn’t love the products I tried out initially, but maybe I’ll give the colour products a go this time around — they do seem to do them well, at least with these shadows 😉

Rachel R. Avatar

Royal and Orchid: Be still my beating heart! I didn’t think Punch was that great, but seeing how you used it, it looks fantastic. Tangerine looks fun.

Medusa Avatar

GASP! Absolutely beautiful color combo you put together. I want them all! Why is everything sooo expensive??? (That’s a rhetorical question, lol.)

Niki Avatar

These remind me so much of MAC eyeshadows, everything from the packaging, the colours and the pigmentation. Orchid looks alot like Stars n Rockets and Punch looks alot like the coral eyeshadow, Free to be from the Give Me Liberty of London collection.

Christine Avatar

Stars ‘n’ Rockets is so, so light and muted in comparison, and Punch is much darker and redder compared to Coral, which is really more orange than it is a true coral. These also contain more product (0.06 oz. vs. 0.05 oz.) and come in a magnetic container vs. glued in 🙂

Tugce Avatar

Huh! Ardency Inn website says “In the USA, do not use “Royal”, “Orchid”, “Tangerine” and “Punch” near the eyes”, although Sephora seems to skip this! (same issue as in re UD Electric pallette I assume, I would still use them as eyeshadow but they should put the required warning on Sephora website.)

Also, I like how you picked the not-eye safe colors to review 😛 If something is too pretty, it is not eye safe it seems!

Christine Avatar

I didn’t know they weren’t eye-safe — I have all twelve, and these just seemed to work best together in a look (that’s why they’re grouped that way). Thanks for sharing – now it’s rather disappointing! I’ve updated the post as well.

Amethyst Avatar

Maybe it is my wicked Dutch sense of irony, but I think it is kind of funny that a brand releases eyeshadows that are not safe to use near the eye and this hazard only occurs in the US. So if I’m not mistaken, these absolutely stunning eyeshadows are perfectly safe to wear on the eye for me, as long as I only wear them on this side of the ocean 😉

Christine Avatar

Yes, your non-USA eyes are golden, LOL! It’s more frustrating that the disclaimers aren’t more obvious, because they should be – that is the whole point so that they can avoid liability, yet we have a major retailer like Sephora (who is the exclusive retailer of the brand) with no disclaimer on the product listing (and the same is true with Make Up For Ever’s Artist Shadows–there are “Blush” shades that are all absorbed by a single product listing called Artist Shadow). The customer has to make the decision whether to listen to the warning or not, but at least they can make an informed decision!

Helene Avatar

Oh, Royal!!! I want you so much!
Orchid is also gorgeous. In fact, I want them both. Lovely purples with good pigmentation and lastingpower and, did I mention they are gorgeous!
The look you did is just beautiful. I love how vibrant it is,
I have found and corrected a lot of typos in this post. Might be due to the gorgeousness of Royal, or it’s just my clumsy fingers 🙂

Arielle Avatar

Love the bold look you did! Amped up your eye color so much.
I have to be careful looking at colorful eyecolor swatches because I think I’ll be dropping the money for the MUFE 30 for 30 and don’t want too much color overlap after that.
Gotta wait until it’s in my hands to make that decision.

artemis Avatar

WOW! I guess they got carmine so that’s why the us says to not use them around the eyes. I used a liquid eyeliner on my upper eyelid that contains carmine and didn’t have a problem even tho some got into my eyes, but Avon’s supershock plum eyeliner made my eyes red and one of my eyelids swolled up. It depends. They’re gorgeous! <3 Coral is hard to come by here.

Danielle Avatar

There are plenty of shadows/other products one could use on the eyes that use carmine that don’t have that warning. Carmine is an approved color for eye products, being that it’s natural and a replacement to FD&C Red 3 (a synthetic) in cosmetics. It may be other ingredients in the brights/purples that aren’t approved by the FDA for eye-use, since the Urban Decay Electric palette has this warning as well as any blacklight pigments/products. What the specific ingredients are that aren’t approved for the eye is questionable; I think it’s just the actual pure *pigment* used and not a shadow ingredient (like binders, fillers, etc). They’re covering their butts and it may irritate your eyes if you use them but you did get a warning!

Banafshe Sharifian Avatar

These are really beautiful but I’m a little confused, what’s the point of having “EYEshadow” if you can’t use it near the eyes?

Banafshe Sharifian Avatar

Haha well I can’t resist but try them on my eyes! I LOVE purple eyeshadow! I’ll be careful though. Thanks Christine! 🙂

Shannigans Avatar

Great job Christine! These colors look amazing on you! Just wanted to confirm that after the update you posted, you can or can’t wear them near your eyes?

Michelle Avatar

Sad that they aren’t eye safe here in the US. They are very beautiful colors though and I am always a sucker for these bright colors but they would end up just sitting in my stashed and not being used.

Danielle Avatar

Purple that stands out with pigment all on it’s own? Dang, how often does that happen? (I can’t think of many instances personally!) I’m not even a fan of orange and coral, but that look is glowing from the combination. I need all these shades, just to recreate the look and because they’re so pretty. Even if Tangerine doesn’t get a whole lot of use lol
