Anastasia Summer 2019 Mini Lipstick Set Review & Swatches
Summer 2019
Anastasia Summer 2019 Mini Matte Lipstick Set ($21.00 for 0.18 oz.) is a new, limited edition set of lipsticks for the summer that features three shimmery shades and one semi-matte shade. It was a mixed bag; Guava and Orange Blossom were less impressive, while Coconut was nice (as long as an actively hydrating formula isn’t a must-have) and Lychee was decent.

Guava
Guava is a light orange with strong, warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage with a dense, slightly textured consistency that required firmer pressure to pull across my lips. The color applied unevenly and had a tendency to highlight any uneven texture on my lips and sink into my lip lines. This shade stayed on well for three and a half hours and was neither drying nor hydrating.

Formula Overview
$18.00/0.12 oz. - $150.00 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have “full-pigment” with a “smooth, ultra-matte finish.” Since the description was a little light, I also watched the brand’s video, where the formula is also supposed to be comfortable to apply and not settle in lip lines. The best aspects of the formula are how lightweight it felt on–almost like nothing on, so despite being more matte and denser, not heavy or clingy–and that most shades have been non-drying (so far).
There has been some transfer, and the finish is mostly matte but not “ultra-matte” (certainly not as flat or matte as their liquid lipsticks, as an example). Some shades have emphasized my lip lines from a texture standpoint or due to color settling into them, but it depended on the shade. The wear has ranged from four and a half hours to eight hours, and some of the richer shades can survive a moderate meal and definitely drinking coffee.
I found the texture to be the drawback; the lipstick is incredibly firm and dense with little to creaminess, which resulted in an application that tugged and pulled on the lips. It was also the type of texture that caught on flakes, so regular exfoliation is key. There were a few shades that were creamier and thicker on the lips, which were more comfortable to apply, but the majority were quite firm. (They also did not get softer with use.)

Guava
LELimited Edition. $18.00.
Lychee
Lychee is a medium-dark mauve with warm undertones and a fine, metallic shimmer and slightly larger bits of gold sparkle throughout. It had a denser, lightly tacky consistency that had enough creaminess that it didn’t tug on my lips during application, but it felt a little heavier than other Anastasia lipsticks have for me. The pigmentation was nearly opaque and had good, even adhesion with slight separation along my deeper lip lines that didn’t seem noticeable from a normal viewing distance. It wore nicely for four hours and was neither drying nor hydrating on me.

Orange Blossom
Orange Blossom is a medium-dark peach with strong, warm orange undertones and a fine, frosted finish. It had nearly opaque color payoff in a single layer, which adhered fairly evenly, but it did highlight my lip lines as product settled into them. The lipstick had a smooth, velvety consistency that glided across my lips with a firm hand with minimal tugging, but it was definitely a little drier and denser than typical modern lipsticks. It lasted for four hours on me and was non-drying.

Coconut
Coconut is a light-medium, rosy brown with neutral-to-warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. The consistency was smooth, velvety, and dense but had enough slip that it glided across my lips without tugging. It had delivered opaque pigmentation in a single layer, which went on evenly and didn’t emphasize my lip lines. The color stayed on well for four and a half hours and felt non-drying.

Because I believe that only the 2 darker shades would work on me, I’m going to pass on this set. Also, I’m thinking that Coconut looks somewhat similar to the lipstick I just ordered from MAC last night: Life In Sepia? Another reason for me to skip it.
Coconut is the only one that is calling me, but I have a few of the dupes from the list. So easy pass!
I really like the colour of Guava even though it doesn’t show up that well on me. It kind of reminds me of a creamer lip gloss! I have to wonder why they called this set matte when three of them are so sparkly.
If Lychee were a closer dupe for Rebel, I would’ve picked it up for that shade alone. (Yep, still complaining about missing out on it!)
Lovely shade combinations but it would have better if they were of greater quality.
No comment on the quality or the colors, just here to say … yay minis! 🙂
I like the concept of minis, but there is always a shade or two I wouldn’t wear which defeats the purpose, Plus, my first time round with ABH lipsticks was my last based on their current formula. I find them a bit waxy, drying, and uncomfortable on my lips in the same realm with NARS original formula and UD. I would love mini sets where you get to pick the shades. Not counting Tom Ford … his boys and girls minis are the price of a ‘normal’ lipstick.
All of these are pretty and I love mini lipsticks, but I would only wear Lychee out of this set.
thank you for another amazing review. I would be lost without your reviews.
