Anastasia Summer 2016 Mini Lip Gloss Set Review, Photos, Swatches

Anastasia Lip Gloss

Anastasia Summer 2016 Lip Gloss Set ($28.00 for 0.42 oz.) includes six, travel-sized glosses in hues from rosy brown to berry. All six shades are new and limited edition. The formula is supposed to be “ultra-smooth” and “weightless” with the “intensity of a stain” and “the mirror-like shine of a gloss.” If you love really pigmented gloss, Anastasia’s is well-worth trying, as many apply well, have full coverage, last a good awhile, are comfortable, and are mostly non-sticky. There are a few misses in the range, but for the most part, I’ve been impressed. I really hope they’ll release a few of these individually into the permanent range! The set contains $42.00 worth of gloss (full-size is 0.16 fl. oz. for $16.00), for reference.

Blushing is a medium pink with warm, yellow undertones and a cream finish. It had rich, opaque pigmentation that applied evenly with almost no visible streaking, but it did pull into lip lines slightly for me. I didn’t notice it as much from a normal viewing distance, though. The consistency was smooth, comfortable, and lightly hydrating over the four hours it lasted. Anastasia Peony (-, $16.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). Edward Bess First Kiss (P, $30.00) is lighter (90% similar). Urban Decay Lovechild (PiP, $19.00) is lighter (90% similar). Maybelline Captivating Carnation (080) (P, $8.99) is cooler (90% similar). ColourPop Smiling Faces (LE, $8.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). MAC Fearless (P, $20.00) is more shimmery, cooler (90% similar). Maybelline Blush Essence (095) (P, $8.99) is more shimmery (85% similar). Urban Decay Flushed (P, $19.00) is warmer (85% similar). Bite Beauty Ten (Watercolor) (LE, ) is warmer (85% similar). Cle de Peau Sequin (14) (P, $48.00) is lighter, brighter, warmer (85% similar). Illamasqua Indulge (P, $22.00) is brighter (80% similar). Caramel is a muted, medium-dark rosy brown with warm undertones and a cream finish. It had intense color payoff with a smooth, creamy texture that applied evenly to the lips. Like Blushing, it sat in some of my deepest lip lines, which you can see in the close-up photo, but I couldn’t see it in person. This shade lasted for four and a half hours and was hydrating. Anastasia Kristen (-, $16.00) is darker, more muted (85% similar). NYX Chocolate Crepe (P, $5.99) is darker (85% similar). MAC Show Me (DC, $19.50) is darker, more muted (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Grape Jelly is a bright, medium-dark purple with warm, vred undertones and a creamy finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation that applied evenly and smoothly across the lips. The texture was light-to-medium in weight, comfortable to wear, and mostly non-sticky. This shade lasted for five hours on me. MAC How Chic is This (LE, $20.00) is darker (85% similar). MAC Heroine (P, $21.00) is more shimmery, darker (80% similar). Urban Decay Bittersweet (DC, $26.00) is darker, cooler (80% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty Truth or Dare (208) (DC, $28.00) is more muted, warmer (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

St. Tropez is a muted, medium-dark rosy plum with a ton of metallic gold shimmer. It had mostly opaque pigmentation, though it was the least pigmented shade in the set. The coverage was even, while the gloss was comfortable to wear with a lightweight, more gel-like consistency compared to the other shades. It lasted for four and a half hours on me and was hydrating. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Bon Bon (DC, $17.00) is less shimmery, darker, more muted (80% similar). Cle de Peau Flushed (13) (P, $48.00) is less shimmery, warmer (85% similar). MAC Mega Hug (LE, $20.00) is less shimmery, darker, warmer (80% similar). NARS Fast Life (LE, $28.00) is warmer (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Tango is a medium-dark, pink-berry with subtle, cool undertones and a cream finish. The pigmentation was very, very rich, while the formula had a creamy, smooth, and comfortable texture that applied evenly. This shade lasted for five hours and was hydrating over time. NARS La Main Bleue (P, $26.00) is darker, cooler (85% similar). Urban Decay After Dark (DC, $26.00) is darker, cooler (85% similar). NYX Spice Cake (P, $5.99) is lighter, brighter, cooler (85% similar). NYX Toasted Marshmallow (P, $5.99) is warmer (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Toffee is a medium brown with warm, peachy undertones and very fine pink shimmer in a mostly cream finish. The shimmer is hard to detect, and that’s possibly due to the consistency, which is smooth and light-medium in thickness, so it may cover some of the shimmer once applied. It went on fairly evenly, but it did emphasize lip lines slightly. This shade wore well for four hours on me and was moisturizing while worn. Anastasia Kristen (-, $16.00) is darker (90% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty Satisfaction (214) (DC, $28.00) is warmer (90% similar). Urban Decay Liar (DC, $26.00) is lighter (85% similar). MAC Show Me (DC, $19.50) is darker (85% similar). This is a really nice set! I’m really liking Caramel, St.Tropez, and Tango.
While I wouldn’t wear St.Tropez because I personally don’t like shimmery glosses on myself, I still think it’s really pretty.

I’ve purchased 2 Anastasia lip products (based on your initial recommendation) and LOVE both of them. In my limited experience with their products, I agree, they are well-pigmented and comfortable to wear. I really like the look of this set even though it pulls warmer than I typically go for. The shades look pretty wearable. Do you have a release date for this yet? Thanks!

I have a no-buy on lip glosses until I make a dent in my stash, but these are pretty! I like how shiny and opaque they are. I wish brands would do more mini-sets like these, so you get a variety of colors and can use them up before they go bad.

I am trying to wait for these to arrive at Sephora or Ulta but I might have to break down and buy them directly. These are a must-have for me.

Oh, joy! I don’t need lip glosses, but this redhead is calling her dark haired sister, and we’re going to split these between us. Cool tones for her, warm for me. Wheeee!

They look quite nice (especially St. Tropez), but I’m afraid they’re not for me. I really appreciate your photos, Christine, and your decision to photograph the outer packaging as well as swatches and on-the-lips looks. As these glosses are made in China, I won’t be adding them to my collection.

Would you say these have any fragrance or taste?

I don’t need this but I am seriously thinking of giving it a try! Thanks for the review!

St Tropez won me over!! These look very nice and summery..might just order them! Plus, I love that they are mini and lots of different colors 🙂 such a great way to try new things… thumbs up Anastasia!!

I had to have St. Tropez when I saw you wearing it in pics of another product you reviewed! Thankfully, I like the other shades in this kit…the collection makes for a worthy purchase! This will be my first time purchasing Anastasia glosses. I’d like to test the wear and pigmentation of the product against my pigmented lips. They seem fairly opaque, so I am sure they will work out well. Not sure if I want to wait for these to arrive at Sephora or Ulta or purchase directly.

I am surprised there aren’t better dupes for St Tropez! It’s gorgeous but you would think the idea of that base color with gold shimmer wouldn’t be that unique!

ABH has THEE best lip gloss ever for me. The formula and the opacity is at the top of the mountain for me. I can’t wait to pick up this set however, I’d have gladly paid $40 for a FS summer set like the Christmas set although I ended up giving 2 of those away and as a gloss, a mini is more beneficial I think to carry around and be able to use it all. I’m here for this entire set!!

Thank you for showing the back of the box that indicates that these are made in China.
I do not buy any makeup products made in China/PRC, due to their disregard for people and animals – remember the baby formula scandal and the dog treats from Purina that were tainted and killed some dogs here in the US a few years ago?
So buyers, please read labels and see where these products are made. Buy from US, Canada, Europe, Japan, Korea, Poland, and so forth. They have higher quality standards.

You are putting them on your face, and you have other choices!

Christine, is that a Modern Renaissance palette look you’re wearing? * with your signature teal liner on the lower waterline of course ?
I’m in love with the look, dying to know what shades you used where.. Although I may be able to guess, it’d be awesome if you’d tell us!

Yen.Lin Avatar

Anastasia St. Tropez is what I wish NARS’ Orgasm Lipgloss would look like. I hope Anastasia can make a liquid lipstick in this colour. It’s so pretty!

Jurgita Avatar

Oh wow!!! Your eye makeup is just PERFECT!!!! I want a tutorial on this look, lol!!! <3 What colours have you used from the palette?
