Anastasia Sultry Eyeshadow Palette ($45.00 for 0.28 oz.) is a smokier neutral palette with a mix of shimmers and mattes, plus a pop of coral.  It has shades like Noir, which end up making it fairly versatile as there’s always room to deepen a shade when you have a matte black eyeshadow on hand. You can also use Cyborg to add a bit of lighter, cooler shimmer to shades like Cinder and Teak to tamp down their warmer tones.

About This Series

Each look idea is centered around a “quad” of four shades with the expectation that one might bring in the appropriate brow bone or additional transitional shade based on skin tone. I know that I tend to use more like five or six shades in a typical look, but I think that four is a happy medium to give a good idea of the “core” color scheme of a look while giving you the ability to lighten/darken as desired. I have listed the colors in this order: inner lid, middle of lid, outer lid/crease, and crease/above crease.

You might see combinations that seem slightly repeated but placement will vary (e.g. a halo placement where the lightest and more shimmery shade is placed on the center) as placement can also create a different effect/look! You might also want to consider incorporating your favorite matte/shimmer shades (as applicable) to increase the versatility of certain palettes. Consider these ideas a jumping off point!

I will totally be using this palette for the gala I have to work next week. It’s the perfect palette for an event like that. I really love popping Cyborg in the center of Teak. It just adds an extra bit of drama that I love.

Makes this palette a whole lot more interesting and tempting when one can see that there really are various ways to use these shades that perhaps one hasn’t thought of yet!

Awe darn, I was hoping it was 10 different eyeshadow application techniques, rather than how to group eyeshadows. I need ideas on how to apply :). This look is beautiful on your Christine!

As a FYI, it says makeup look ideas (not tips/techniques!) and the whole series is giving color combos – it’s never been any different! 🙂

Thanks so much for this, Christine. I love these look/combo suggestions that you do; they’re a huge help to me and I enjoy them so much!

Thank you so much for these ideas Christine. I have the palette and I have actually used your Sultry 1 and Sultry 2 combinations. Having done so, I do wish there was a slightly darker taupe shade in the palette – both Dystopian and Noir are far too dark for me to use. There doesn’t seem to be a mid tone shades. It’s only when you really get to work a palette that you do find it’s blind spots.
I used either All Eyes on Me, from City Color or my UD Mushroom cream pencil stick, very carefully, and that gives me more of the result I am looking for.
I do like the combinations that you have created and I am going to give them a go.

So true — when you use a palette a few times, then you really figure out where the gaps are or what you need to add in!

OMG I love this series!!! I super appreciate your expertise and practice with the combos when I have a palette you create these for.

Will you be doing the Born to Run and the Naked Pallets?

Thank you again!!

I already did the Born to Run palette! I’m not going into the archives to do any old palettes at this time, though.

Thanks, Christine! This is my favorite palette. I’m excited to try some of these new variations. I need to figure out a way to save them for easy reference!

Look, I know I ragged on this palette hard for that stupid pinky coral shade, but holy shit it’s an amazing staple palette and it’s a shame they didn’t make it permanent.

I love your color combos

This is so pretty and useful. I wish I could print this out–at least the different combos (I don’t need pics of the whole palette) but no matter what I do, I can’t get it to print. If I just send to printer, I get first three pages (that’s it). If I print to PDF file, I get an error. If I print by simplifying the page, then I can get just a list of each shade used for all 10 looks. If I copy to put into a word doc, every shade is lined up vertically so I get 42 pages. Oh well. It’s better you spend time doing this than worrying about how to get this to print, so I can’t complain (too much). 🙂

Really above my pay grade there – I don’t think we have anything that allows us to modify something like that without having to build it up for all blog pages and formats, which would be quite the undertaking!

Yeah, hubby suggested screen shot too; haven’t tried it. I just simplified the page and got the names to use in which order, which works okay. Definitely above my pay grade too! 🙂
