Anastasia Shadow Couture Eyeshadow Palette Review, Photos, Swatches
Anastasia Shadow Couture Eyeshadow Palette
Anastasia Shadow Couture Eyeshadow Palette ($30.00 for 0.30 oz.) incldues twelve eyeshadows. Five of the twelve shades are available as individual shades from the brand’s permanent range of eyeshadows. They’re housed in slim cardboard with an interior mirror and dual-ended brush (which is okay, nothing amazing but usable). Some shades are good, some are so-so, and a few are misses. For the price point, you may find that using primer to solve at least half of the issues I experienced with some of the under-performing shades and make it still “worth it” as a result. The most troublesome shades were Heirloom (brings down the palette from B range to near C+ range!), Spoiled, and Chic.
Soft Peach is a light-medium, peachy-beige with warm undertones and a matte finish. It was moderately powdery though soft and fairly smooth in the pan. It had good pigmentation but prone to sheering out and fading over time. On me, the color lasted for seven hours before fading. Anastasia Orange Soda (P, $12.00) is darker. MAC Bamboo (P, $16.00) is darker. Makeup Geek Peach Smoothie (P, $5.99) is darker. ColourPop Just a Sip (LE, $5.00) is darker. Makeup Geek Beaches and Cream (P, $5.99) is more shimmery. LORAC Fawn (LE, ) is lighter. LORAC Fawn (LE, ) is lighter. Becca Ombre Nudes #1 (P, ) is lighter. Too Faced Peach Fuzz (LE, $16.00) is lighter. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Morocco is a medium-dark, reddish-brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation with a soft, lightly powdery texture that blended well but sheered out easily. It wore well for seven hours on me. MAC Saddle (P, $16.00) is warmer. Make Up For Ever M738 Auburn (P, $21.00) is darker, cooler. Anastasia Bengal (P, $12.00) is lighter. Buxom Filthy Rich (P, $12.00) is darker, more muted, cooler. Viseart Brique (P, ) is less shimmery. Kat Von D Succubus (P, ) is darker, brighter, warmer. Sephora + Pantone Universe Chutney (LE, ) is more muted. Makeup Geek Cocoa Bear (P, $5.99) is darker. Kat Von D Wrath (P, ) is darker. Anastasia Sienna (P, $12.00) is darker. Kat Von D Cleopatra (P, ) is more shimmery, darker, brighter. Sleek MakeUP Propose in Prague (LE, $9.99) is darker, more muted. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Heirloom is a blackened purple with purple and silver sparkle. The sparkle completely lifts from the base powder, which gives you more of a satin-like finish, and the eyeshadow itself is incredibly powdery. It’s just dusty and needs a tacky, white base to perform decently. Without a helper like that, patting it on and blending as little as possible is my best advice. On me, it faded by the sixth hour. bareMinerals Starry Night (LE, $14.00) is less shimmery. Too Faced Jungle Love (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery, darker. Urban Decay Ether (P, $20.00) is more shimmery. MAC Exotic Purple (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery, darker. MAC Feel the Fever (LE, $21.00) is more shimmery, lighter. See comparison swatches/ compare dupes side-by-side.
Bellini is a brightened, medium golden-orange with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It had good pigmentation with a fairly soft, blendable consistency that leaned a little powdery but wasn’t too difficult to work with. The texture seemed denser than other shades, and it didn’t combine as well with a lot of the satin/matte shades in this palette. It lasted for seven and a half hours on me. Make Up For Ever ME728 Copper Red (P, $21.00) is more shimmery, darker. Make Up For Ever ME700 Amber (P, $21.00) is lighter, brighter. Makeup Geek Roulette (P, $5.99) is darker, cooler. Anastasia Glisten (P, $12.00) is darker. Makeup Geek Roulette (P, $5.99) is darker, cooler. Ardency Inn Copper (P, $21.00) is more shimmery, darker. Ardency Inn Copper (P, $21.00) is more shimmery, darker. MAC Luscious (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery. Urban Decay Lucky (LE, $18.00) is darker. Too Faced Bon Bon #2 (P, $16.00) is more shimmery. Guerlain Petrouchka #3 (LE, ) is warmer. Sephora + Pantone Universe Butterum (LE, ) is more shimmery, warmer. Sephora + Pantone Universe Toasted Nut (LE, ) is darker. LORAC Unleashed (P, ) is more shimmery, lighter, brighter. Hourglass Graphite #2 (P, ) is more shimmery. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Pink Champagne is a sparkling, rosy taupe brown with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It had good pigmentation, but it is loosely bound together, so it tended to sheer out on the lid and have a fair amount of sparkle fall out when initially applied. I think this shade is one I would consider using a with a damp brush or over a tacky primer to maximize its intensity/finish. On me, the color wore for just over seven hours with some fall out. MAC Vintage Selection (P, $18.50) is more shimmery, lighter, brighter. MAC Until Dawn #1 (LE, $21.00) is less shimmery, darker. Clarins The Essentials #5 (LE, ) is lighter. MAC Satin Taupe #2 (P, $16.00) is less shimmery, lighter. Tom Ford Beauty Nude Dip #3 (LE, ) is darker, warmer. Sleek MakeUP Paradise on Earth (P, $9.99) is less shimmery. Tom Ford Beauty Nude Dip #3 (LE, ) is darker, warmer. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Chic is a light-medium gold muted by beige-y tones and a sparkling sheen. It had semi-sheer color payoff with a slightly sparkly texture, so it wasn’t super smooth in feel, and there was some fall out over the seven hours it lasted. Dior Golden Flower #3 (LE, ) is more shimmery, darker. Make Up For Ever ME512 Golden Beige (P, $21.00) is less shimmery, warmer. theBalm #41 (P, $6.50) is less shimmery, darker. Dior Rivage #4 (LE, ) is darker. Make Up For Ever D504 Celestial Beige (P, $21.00) is warmer. Make Up For Ever D504 Celestial Beige (P, $21.00) is warmer. LORAC Cashmere (LE, ) is lighter. MAC Canter (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery, lighter. LORAC Sand (LE, ) is less shimmery, lighter. Burberry Gold #4 (LE, ) is less shimmery. Guerlain Petrouchka #1 (LE, ) is lighter. ColourPop Fringe (P, $5.00) is brighter. Cle de Peau Champagne Supernova #1 (P, ) is warmer. Rouge Bunny Rouge Golden Rhea (P, $19.00) is less shimmery. Too Faced Devotion (P, ) is more muted. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Spoiled is a softened, light-medium peachy-brown with a golden sheen. It had semi-sheer pigmentation with a firmer texture that made it harder to get color out of the pan. It faded noticeably after six hours of wear. MAC Arena (P, $16.00) is darker, warmer. NARS St-Paul-de-Vence (Right) (LE, $24.00) is less shimmery, darker. MAC Bare Minimum (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery. Make Up For Ever S710 Peach (P, $21.00) is less shimmery, darker. Make Up For Ever S710 Peach (P, $21.00) is less shimmery, darker. ColourPop Just a Sip (LE, $5.00) is warmer. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Fudge is a deepened, dark brown with warm, reddish tones and a matte finish. It was nicely pigmented with a soft, silky, and blendable consistency that was easy to work with. It was one of the better shades in the palette, and it wore for a full eight hours on me before fading. Inglot #327 (P, $6.00) is warmer. MAC Swiss Chocolate (P, $16.00) is warmer. Bobbi Brown Bittersweet (LE, $28.00) is darker. Laura Mercier Truffle (P, $23.00) is lighter. Make Up For Ever M600 Pink Brown (P, $21.00) is lighter. Gucci Beauty Autumn Fire #4 (P, ) is lighter. Anastasia Chocolate (P, $12.00) is lighter, more muted. MAC Choco Cake (LE, $16.00) is more muted. Zoeva Freshly Toasted (P, ) is lighter. Estee Lauder Bronze Dunes #4 (LE, $21.00) is lighter. Make Up For Ever #17 (P, $20.00) is warmer. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Azure is a brightened, medium-dark navy blue with a soft, frosted finish. It had a fairly smooth and soft consistency, though it was firmer than Anastasia’s average eyeshadow (from my experience, and this isn’t a bad thing). It had good color payoff and lasted for eight hours before creasing on me. LORAC Cobalt (LE, ) is more shimmery, darker. Buxom Backstage Pass (P, $12.00) is lighter. Marc Jacobs Beauty The Siren #6 (LE, ) is brighter. Make Up For Ever I218 Indigo Blue (P, $21.00) is darker. Dior Atlantique #4 (LE, ) is less shimmery, lighter. ColourPop Kimono (P, $5.00) is less shimmery. Kat Von D Entombed (P, ) is darker. Dior Rivage #5 (LE, ) is brighter. Sleek MakeUP Acid #5 (P, $9.99) is more shimmery, lighter. Tarina Tarantino Violet Storm #3 (LE, ) is brighter. MAC A Sprinkle of Blues #3 (P, $21.00) is darker, more muted. MAC Tonight’s Temptation #1 (LE, $21.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Intense Gaze is a softened, medium coral with warm undertones and a frosted sheen. It had good pigmentation with a soft, blendable texture that wasn’t too powdery or too firm. It applied well to bare skin and lasted for seven and a half hours before fading slightly. NYX Golden Peach (P, $6.00) is more shimmery. Buxom Glitz Factor (P, $12.00) is more shimmery, lighter. MAC Gingersnap (P, $16.00) is darker, warmer. MAC Red Alert (LE, $16.00) is darker, brighter. Gucci Beauty Autumn Fire #2 (P, ) is more shimmery, lighter. MAC Expensive Pink (P, $16.00) is less shimmery, darker. MAC Magnetic Attraction (LE, $21.00) is darker. bareMinerals Imagine (P, ) is lighter, warmer. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Metallic is a muted, medium yellow gold with subtler, warm undertones (not a true yellow gold, there’s an antique quality to the color) paired with a metallic sheen. The texture was soft but a little loose/crumbly in the pan, so it is better applied with a firmer brush and packed onto the lid with less blending motions to avoid excessive fall out. It lasted for seven and a half hours on me before creasing. Sugarpill Goldilux (P, $13.00) is darker. Urban Decay Blitz (LE, $18.00) is brighter. Urban Decay Honey (DC, $18.00) is warmer. Marc Jacobs Beauty The Starlet #5 (P, ) is lighter, brighter. Too Faced Instigator (LE, $16.00) is more shimmery. Too Faced Twinkle (LE, $16.00) is darker. Sleek MakeUP Sunset #5 (P, $9.99) is lighter, brighter, warmer. Sleek MakeUP Sunset #5 (P, $9.99) is lighter, brighter, warmer. Make Up For Ever ME406 Golden (P, $21.00) is less shimmery, lighter. Anastasia Gold Bar (P, $12.00) is lighter, brighter. Chanel Topkapi #4 (LE, ) is lighter. Makeup Geek Fortune Teller (P, $9.99) is brighter. See comparison swatches/ compare dupes side-by-side.
Noir is a deep black with a matte finish. It had good pigmentation with a firmer texture that wasn’t powdery, but it could have been more blendable in practice. The color lasted for seven and a half hours before fading. NARS Shade VI (LE, $25.00) is darker. NARS Filbuste (P, $28.00) is darker. LORAC Jet Black (P, ) is darker. Smashbox Blackout (P, ) is less shimmery. Le Metier de Beaute Onyx (LE, $30.00) is darker. Make Up For Ever S102 Onyx (P, $21.00) is less shimmery. Anastasia Coal (LE, $12.00) is less shimmery, darker. Kat Von D Shax (P, ) is darker, more pigmented. Chanel L’Intemporel de Chanel #3 (LE, ) is less shimmery, darker, less pigmented. MAC Overnight (LE, $16.00) is darker. Marc Jacobs Beauty The Enigma #1 (P, ) is darker. Kat Von D Killing Moon (LE, ) is darker. Tarte Fashionista (LE, ) is darker. Sugarpill Bulletproof (P, $12.00) is darker, more pigmented, better quality, brighter. Make Up For Ever #04 (P, $20.00) is warmer. View dupes side-by-side.

$30 for 12 shadows is very affordable, too bad about Heirloom.
The price point is really great!
I picked this up mid last week at my local Sephora. I got the last they had in stock. I have only used it once since I left the store with it. But, I played with it in the store quite a bit. I do use primer regularly. I didn’t have any issues with it with primer. I really like the shade combos in this palette vs the palette Anastasia released for summer . I also think this one is better quality overall vs the summer palette(Artist palette?). I am going to play with it more this week. I think for $30, it’s pretty good. I may have some dupes floating around. But, I like a complete look in one palette. So, I will probably keep it.
I think it should be a lot easier to work with once you have a primer 🙂
Too bad this was an underperformer! I’ve been waiting to give ABH my money, but so far her palettes don’t seem worth it!
They seem to be a bit more of a miss!
For me, even though I like all the shades, an I use primers/bases, none of the palettes are “complete”… I don’t mind having to pull out a highlight shade, or even a transition shade, I just haven’t found any of them to be cohesive enough. There was a time I wouldn’t have minded, but I’m at a point in my life where I don’t want to fumble with more than one palette just to apply my eyeshadow.
I love certain ABH products, but I feel their palettes are very repetitive. I would prefer to be able to buy individual shades at the store (I tend not to buy without swatching the product myself).
They do start to run together!
Wow…C+. This is a pass for me, not just because of the grade though, but because it would seem to have quite a plenty of dupes for shades that I already own. It has, however, inspired me to buy Nyx Golden Peach, MAC Swiss Chocolate ( I do have Folie, close I think? ) and perhaps Bamboo, too.
Yay for dupes 🙂
My hunch about this one was right. Glad I skipped it.
Phew!
Intense gaze was the only color I was interested in, so I’m excited to get the NYX dupe instead! Thanks! 🙂
My pleasure, Bonnie!
I was considering getting this when I first saw the promo for it because it’s got a nice mix of fun shades but I can pass now! Thanks!
No problem, Erin!
I’m so happy you reviewed this pallete as I was strongly considering it! Super bummed that the shade I was most interested in, Heriloom performed so dreadfully. Boo. ? Thanks for the amazingly helpful and through review Christine!
My pleasure as always, Ciara! 🙂
I love the way this palette looks, like the color combination all together, but I know I’d never wear the blue or the purple, and I have dupes for a lot of the neutrals, which is what I’ve said about all of her palettes. Honestly the only shade I really really want is Pink Champagne, so I think I might get MAC Vintage Selection paint pot instead (A+ review from you, and I’ve been in the market for a cream eyeshadow of a similar color anyway!).
Vintage Selection has such a pretty tone to it!
These palettes just seem a bit tacky… Sure, there are some beautiful colors, but none of the palettes are cohesive enough to get a solid look, and I really despise cardboard packaging. Given the initial demographic of the brand, it just seems like she’s pushing out products to make a quick buck, even if it means lowering standards. I’m not saying she shouldn’t have broadened her consumer base, but she’s veered off completely from the origin of the brand…
I have heard a few people mention the singles are better than the palettes, and if that’s the case, that is a bummer!
At least the beautiful Azure colour received a really good rating – but I think the Heirloom one for purple lovers was a great disappoint. I don’t know how a brand could put in such a range of standards into one palette. I guess with a primer, the underperforming shades will be better. A good price though.
I really wonder how they test it/use it before approving it!
I still like it, but Heirloom has me SMH. I use primer all the time, so that doesn’t bother me. I still don’t know whether I’ll get it.
It just falls apart – don’t know why they didn’t make it combine better!
Heirloom reminds be of Gothica from the Kat von D Star Studded Palette. The one you called “purple sand.” lol
I have a couple of ABH singles, and they are better than the Artist Palette shadows. I don’t own enough ABH to judge if singles are better than the palettes as a general rule, though.
I pulled up swatches…I guess Gothica was even worse. But what is is with purples…
Happy to hear the singles were better! Which ones do you have?
Just Blushing and China Rose at the moment, so not a huge sample. I can’t say anything bad about them, though.
Haha I love when a product gets a lot of hype and then temptalia marks it a B-
I love the idea of these palettes, and the price is right, but they never work that well.
I bought this today. =) The blue shade is the only blue I’ve found in years that actually looks like a vivid, royal blue on me. (Not that I need to be wearing too much vivid, royal blue… LOL) The only shade in the palette that is really disappointing (for me) is Heirloom, but I still might be able to use it to darken the outer V.
Woohoo!! Happy to hear that Azure worked so well for you, Cat!
There are definitely some lovely shades in there. And the price point is good too. Too bad the quality isn’t quite there.
The price point on her palettes is great for sure! I always want them to do well, lol!
Wow, I’m surprised by this low score. I always use a primer, so I should be good.
You should have a lot less trouble with a primer!
It’ a miss for me with this palette , i just find it incomplete somehow, I think i’ll just wait for the makeup geek fall release , buy individual shades i need
Hopefully the Makeup Geek eyeshadows work for you!
