MAC Style Warrior Reviews & Thoughts
OVERALL, MAC Style Warrior is a good mix of color, neutrals, and perfect-for-summer products. It’s no Neo Sci Fi for me, but I found plenty of new favorites and items I didn’t think I’d love. I think what I liked most about this collection is the majority of products were well-pigmented and color pay off was a dream on many items. I know some were concerned about the collection being too warm and not working on cooler skin tones, but I definitely didn’t get that impression. There are certain items that are more about bronzy, sun-glowing skin, but a lot of them are designed to help you fake-it. The lipsticks were surprisingly pigmented, and the lipglasses coordinated well in a way that wasn’t completely redundant. In the end, I do think Style Warrior is worth a peek or two next time you’re at your local MAC! (As far as the official launch date goes, I have heard May 20th, 21st, and 28th — I’d recommend calling your local store to find out.)

Lipsticks: Brave New Bronze, Purple Rite, Sunsational, Tribalist
Lipsticks
- Brave New Bronze is a beautiful shade of fleshy-peachy nude without really being nude. It’s opaque, creamy, and has a subtle glossy sheen. It’s not an “exciting” shade, but it is really wearable. I, at least, implore you to give it a swatch when you see it and not just pass it up!
- Purple Rite is a soft purplish frost-finish lipstick with a touch of pink in it to keep it from being too purple. It’s more raspberry-pink than previous purple shades like Lavender Whip and Fashion Mews. It is also a bit warmer in tone.
- Sunsational is a sheer, gold shimmered yellow-gold base. It doesn’t give a lot of color, but it can add a lot of dimension when layered with other lip products. I actually liked this one!
- Tribalist is a deep, opaque burgundy-wine with a touch of purple. It’s creamy and incredibly pigmented–definitely not for the color shy!
Lipglasses: Liberated, Fierce & Fabulous, Gold Rebel, Style Warrior
Lipglasses
- Liberated is a pop of sunny yellow gold with gold shimmer. It’s pretty sheer, so don’t expect a yellow pout or anything. Again, like Sunsational, it makes a good way to layer color to get a unique shade that’s perfect for you.
- Fierce & Fabulous is a magenta-pink kind of color with purple and pink shimmer. It looks beautiful, though it’s not a shade I haven’t seen before. It’s not like Magnetique (recently launched), as it is sheerer and not nearly as bright.
- Gold Rebel is a sleeper hit for me. It’s a warmed-up bronzy gold. It’s kind of like a peachy bronze with gold and peach shimmer. I didn’t even notice it before, but it grabbed my attention as soon as I swatched it.
- Style Warrior is a pretty opaque, warm chocolaty brown with micro red and gold shimmer. Kind of hard for me to wear alone — definitely would need to overlay it on top of a lipstick to find a way to make it look good on me.
Eyeshadows: Soft Force, Bright Future, Tempting, Night Maneuvers, Vibrant Grape
Eyeshadow
- Soft Force is a just slightly yellow-tinged white shade of eyeshadow. It’s kind of like Rose Blanc, though probably a little less yellow and perhaps a bit smoother. I didn’t find it particularly unique, because I have several other colors that work just as well as highlighters/lid colors.
- Bright Future is a bright pop of yellow with little shimmer, mostly a sheen. It seems yellower than Going Bananas (from C-Shock), and I definitely urge anyone who missed out on Going Bananas to check out this one in its stead.
- Tempting is a warm shade of medium-to-dark chocolate brown. It’s part of MAC’s permanent range of colors, so no need to rush to get this one (unless you’re dying for the packaging!).
- Night Maneuvers is a dark, cool-toned brown with a little bit of gray cast to it. It kind of reminds me of Mothbrown, but the texture feels different (chalkier). It’s not as pigmented/smooth as I’d like, but it is buildable.
- Vibrant Grape is a pretty medium purple with a little bit of pink tones to it, fairly bright, and just lovely. It’s a satin finish, though it looks and goes on nearly matte. This is permanent at PRO stores.
On A Mission, Eversun Beauty Powder Blushes; Solar Riche, Refined Bronzing Powders
Beauty Powder Blush
- On A Mission is a neutral-to-cool raspberryish-pink shade of blush. It doesn’t have much shimmer (very faint–kind of like a satin eyeshdaow), but the color is rich. It’s not intense, but you get the color you’re expecting from the pot.
- Eversun is a peachy-pink shade with the same finish as On A Mission, so no obvious shimmer/glitter bits. Just a very subtle sheen.
Nail Lacquer
- Violet Fire is a vibrant shade of violet with pink tones to it. It has some shimmer, but it isn’t over the top. Two to three coats should give you a good, opaque finish.
- Peaceable is a metallic-y beige-bronze shimmer. It has shimmer, but it has the metallic finish which results in noticeable brush strokes (for those who mind).
- Mercenary is a gold and bronze flecked chocolate brown. It’s the most stunning of the three, because it really catches your eye, and the way the light plays with it is amazing.
Bronzescape, Impassioned, Scatterrays
Solar Bits
- Bronzescape is a warm, chocolaty brown with a high shine finish. When smoothed on, it goes on and almost looks like liquid.
- Impassioned is a dark, chocolaty brown with the same kind of high shine finish as Bronzescape.
- Scatterrays is a melon-y kind of shade (really does remind me of a poor man’s Melon pigment–perhaps a little lighter, less pink). It’s grittier than the other two, which went on smoothly as I crushed the bits against the skin.
Bronze Hero, Pink Rebel, Sun Rush
Lustre Drops
- Bronze Hero is a richer, deeper bronzy orange highlighter color. Lustre Drops are designed to be used with your foundation/moisturizer to give an all over glow.
- Pink Rebel is a sheer, pearly soft pink. It’s more of a warmed up pink with maybe just a touch of peachiness/gold shimmer in it. I can’t say I’m really won over by the lustre drops, because the tube is so small and the price seems hefty ($18.50), though for sure a little goes a very long way.
- Sun Rush is a peachier/lighter version of Bronze Hero for me. It also seems like it has a little bit less shimmer than Bronze Hero.
Bronzing Powder
- Solar Riche is a sheer, nearly matte brown with a little bit of orange tones to it.
- Refined Golden is a softer, more golden toned bronzing color with a pearl finish.
You can see all of the swatches in the previous post. 🙂
yay!
oh man, suchhh a good review!! i love seeing all the products and the real story behind them! vibrant grape looks fantastic!!
Thanks, Meg 🙂
Man you work fast
thanks for the review, I was waiting now i’m off to take a bath 🙂
I try, LOL!
No prob, Ally!
thanks for the swatches and review!
Sure thing, Plue!
Christine, I effin love you for being on top of this stuff! <3
LOL!
Thanks 🙂
Fierce & Fabulous makes me think of Sweet Strawberry from the Hello Kitty collection. I think Gold Rebel would look fantastic over Lollipop Loving, so I’m definitely eyeing that since I’m having difficulty wearing the lipstick. Thanks for the swatches Christine!
It’s more purple, I’d say!
You’re welcome 🙂
Fierce & Fabulous looks like Fast Friends from HK collection to me.
Definitely different! Fast Friends was extremely sheer on me!
Thanks Christine!
Is Soft Force similar to Femme-fi?
How about On A Mission compared to Stark Naked?
Similar, seems a bit yellower, though. On A Mission isn’t as pretty, to be honest. They’re similar, but Stark Naked has more shimmer.
uh oh you put peaceable in nice-to-haves and skips!
Thanks for letting me know, it’s supposed to be in Nice-To-Haves 🙂
I liked everything. I expected to go and only like a few things, no no…. amazing collection!
Uh oh! What do you think are your must-haves?
The Liberated l/g gets my attention, but since I hear a few times that yellow makes teeth look yellow/er I want to stay away from this one. One question Cristine is Soft Force e/s a dupe for Solar White or Vanilla pigment?
Hmm, it might, but it’s not so yellow that it’d be enough to deter me.
It’s kind of like Solar White, but it’s maybe a bit less yellow.
Ugh I want like all from this collection…. How am I going to afford this…
Oh no 🙁
Hi Christine! Do you think Sweet Strawberry could be a dupe for Fierce & Fabulous or is it more red? I’m planning to get Purple Rite but I’d like to skip F&F since I already have Sweet Strawberry, Magnetique and Funtabulous. Thanks again for the swatches and review!
Fierce & Fabulous is a bit purpler. They’re similar, but I’d say different enough not to be dupes.
I went to an unveiling party a few hours ago and I’m so mad… they forgot to put in my lipglasses! Do they usually make you wait until a collection is released (official date) or can I go in tomorrow and ask about getting the lipglasses?
I was really unimpressed with Soft Force e/s but other than that… I loved everything!! I got quite a bit of stuff and I really love it all! 😀 All the lipsticks are so pigmented!
Happen to me too .. the party at my town was cool loads of guys and gals and mingling but some of the items wasn’t there like the Bronzing Powders I really didn’t even remember until i saw your review Christine!
Christine you are so on top of things.. I came home from the party and you already got the revew up… I’m so glad you’re here to help or else I’ll me missing out on soooo much …
Oh yeah I love love the Brave New Bronze lipstick.. but mine have a big gash on it 🙁 wonder if i can exchange it.
I also didn’t go crazy on this collction cause i’m waiting for MAC to eat me alive on the release of the Graphic Garden Collection >_<
Maybe others snatched them up to play with before you saw?
Aww! I am happy to help 🙂
I am glad you had a lot of fun at the party, though!
Oh no! When that’s happened, I’ve called them right away and told them what happened. They usually set aside the right stuff and let me exchange/buy it the next day.
thanks for the review, Christine! 🙂
nothing really interest me actually from this collection. good for the wallet i guess =p may check out brave new bronze lipstick though!
Of course 🙂
At least check it out!!
hi there Christine & Co,
can someone please explain to me what are solar bits?? and how would you use them and also lustre drops cheers !XX
Hi Binnie
The Soliar bits are kindda like pigments but you kindda gotta crush it in i think i’m not too into it As for the Lustre Drops it’s like pigments in liquids form ( I think it’s te best way to discribe it) but to use it you can use it by itself very little at a time on your cheeks or cheast to give a bit of sparkle and colour or you can add a bit to your lotion, foundations, just about anything you like really just for a bit of colour and sparkle.. I for got to ask if it was lip and eye safe cause they are you can add to gloss and to eyelids too but i’m not sure if it’s safe for that but i’m sure you can use on body and face
They are like loose pigment, but they’re chunkier. You are supposed to crush up the bits to get what you want 🙂
Lustre Drops are liquid highlighters!
umm, now i think i want Solar Riche bronzer too..
Brave New Bronze is pretty..
Uh oh ;P
Thanks for this! I’m looking forward to checking out Bright Future and Vibrant Grape eyeshadows (I love gold-toned and purple eyeshadows!)!
Hi Christine,
Thanks for the review. I can’t wait to see the collection in person now. I do have one question: is Night Maneuvers like Magnetic Fields from last year’s Ne SciFi collection? I ask cuz I love that color so much that it’s almost gone from collection. 🙁
Thanks!
Meant to say my collection!!
No problem, Stephanie! 🙂
It’s less brown, a little grayer, and the texture is sooo different.
thanks for the info. Which texture do u prefer? I ask cuz Magnetic Fields is awesome to me.
Magnetic Fields!
Tribalist looks like what I wish bing actually was. I went to an unveiling and it was wonderful. Entirely too many people lol but everyone was so happy and interested in the makeup. Loved it.
Ohh, I hope you get Tribalist then, Dee 🙂
Ugh. I didn’t think I would like anything from this collection and thought my wallet would be safe – ha! I’m screwed.
Oh no!
What are you loving?
HOW ON EARTH DO YOU GUYS GET THESE BEFORE THE RELEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i hate you 🙁
There were unveiling parties at select MAC free standing stores
There were unveiling parties across the country on the 12th!
Since I love metallic neutrals, and vampy lips I see myself buying almost everything from this collection! The only things I’ll prolly skip are Bronzescape, Scatterrays (already got them), the Lustredrops (I might get Pink Rebel), the bronzers, Vibrant Grape (I’d rather wait & get it at Pro), and Night Manuvers dosen’t impress me from the sswatch but I’ll wait till I see it in person.
Whew! You’re in trouble 😉
I hope you like everything you see!
does anyone know how Liberated l/g compares to GoldyRocks d/g?
also, for the lusterdrops are each geared towards a specific skin tone or would they all generally work for each type?
excellent question… i have goldy rocks and utterly posh… wondering if the finishes of liberated and gold rebel would be compared (perhaps less reflects than the dazzleglasses??
Liberated is similar, but a bit yellower.
It’s not quite as sparkly as Goldyrocks, a little yellower/pigmented.
They’re probably designed to work with all, but I’d say the pink one might be geared towards fairer skin.
Damn at first I hated this collection and totally wanted to avoid it but damnnn it is sooo beautiful 🙁
There goes all of my savings!
Aww!!
I’m dying for Brave New Bronze and Gold Rebel!
I hope you get ’em!!
thanks for the review. i like this collection a lot!!! 🙂
No problem, Mahreez!
Went to the Style Warrior reveal last night. Great party, my store was well prepared for the event, from the 6’4″ Warrior Model to the serving personal (all guys) from a modeling agency (nice eye candy) to the Style Warrior collection its self.
I ended up with Brave New Bronze lipstick (beautiful color, along the lines of a nude lip but with some color). Luv it! Bright Future and Soft Force eye shadow, Eversun & On a Mission beauty powder blush, along with Pink Rebel Luster Drops, for sure a “Two brushes” up on this product.
The Luster Drops give a very warm, without being “vegas showgirl” glow. I think my favorite product of the night! Good job M.A.C. … going back for more when the collection is in full release…lol the girls in my office were very sorry that they couldn’t make it to the party, now they have to wait.
So glad you were able to get to the event, Shawne! 🙂 Sounds like you had a good time!!
And so happy to hear another fan of Brave New Bronze!
Do you know the name of the black model for style warrior for mac? Need it for my report I’m doing! Thanks 🙂 And possibly her age too? Thanks again!
ohh man so much more i want now that i see the swatches =(
brave new bronze, purple rite, F&F, gold rebel, vibrant grape, eversun, on a mission .
my debit card will hate me after this =(
Aww! You have a good list, though, Leila 🙂 You will like what you get!
Anyone know how Bright Future compares to Bright Sunshine (its a pro colour e/s) the pics look very similar???
Yellower, a bit brighter maybe 🙂 I think they are similar, but not 100% the same.
Hey Christine, awesome review! I can’t wait to these launch at my mall. 😉
I have to ask though, Night Maneuvers reminds me a lot of Scene but I was wondering which one the less chalkier of the two? The best one to work with I guess?
Also what do you think would be a good dupe for Soft Force?
Hey Keira! 🙂
Scene is better. I don’t like Night Manoeuvers much!
Nylon would be a fine dupe for Soft Force!
your reviews are too subjective, but i enjoy reading them
Sorry!
hey!! 😀 i’m sooo excited about this collection, i’m nw15 (not tanned at all lol) and i’ve been eyeing the brave new bronze, do you think it would suit me? i’ve seen it on darker girls and it looks incredible, i’ve also been eyeing the eversun beauty powder blush.. again, would it be too dark on me in your opinion? i’ve also heard the refined golden is kinda chalky, is this the case? i’m just trying to make sure that i do my research and only get things i know i’ll love! i’ll try to get to a mac counter to check it out for myself, but i’d love your take on it!
I think it would for sure, Tasha!! 🙂 Definitely give Brave New Bronze a shot. Eversun isn’t too dark at all. I know some fair ladies that ADORE it! Refined Golden isn’t that chalky, but it’s just OK for a bronzer. There are better ones out there!
STYLE WARRIOR IS AVAILABLE ONLINE! 🙂 FREE SHIPPING CODE “WARRIOR” 🙂
Yay, thanks, Tasha!
I checked out the Style Warriors today (its available in Toronto stores) and I have to say the only things I’m interested in are the Lustre drops and Gold Rebel Lipglass. I doubt I’ll buy the Lustre drops because they are SO SMALL. Instead I bought a new empty 4x palette, Gleam, Retrospeck and Arena. I’m disappointed with MAC lately.
however today i really am considering going back to get Gold Rebel…even though i have HK Nice to be Nice and Dior orange raffia… but its gold right, not really orange… lol
Let me know if you end up getting!
after much thought, swatching and deliberation, I finally bought Soft Force and Liberated. I am quite happy with both:)
I really do like Soft Force, I have Nylon and Femme Fi, but I find I prefer Soft Force as its softer with more of a gold sheen on my skin. Not as harsh white as Nylon and a more, I don’t know, sheen of gold as I said. Femme Fi seems a bit more opaque, less gold more beige.
I like Liberated gloss alone, it just adds a bit of sparkle and brightens up things, esp now as I’m finally getting some sun!!
I agree with your assessment of Nylon vs. Femme Fi vs. Soft Force 🙂 They all have a place in my collection!
The lustre drops are pretty tiny, though at least you don’t have to use a ton of it!
Christine,
I need another brown to complete a x15 palette. I was thinking about gettting “night Manoeuvres” this weekend but it reminds of “Lucky Tom” in the “HK” palette. Do you think they are similar?
I don’t think they’re similar, IMO! Night Manoeuvres has more purple to it!
What about the Skinsheens? I got it because my MA said they are so great and I will love it. I just dont think I will use it much. Is it worth keeping? Has anyone ever tried it?
I’ve tried them, but I am too lazy to bother usually :/
im more prone to buy something from style warriors thanks to this! graciassss!
No prob, Sanalah!
solar riche or refined golden? which one do you think is better for an nw15?
Refined Golden!
thanks so much x
I’ve heard from many people that u could use the lustre drops and mix some of it in your lotion, can u do that? Or is it just for your foundation and as a highlight?
Yes, you can do that, Tori. The sky is the limit 🙂
hi do u think purple rite it´s similar ro pomposity?
It’s purpler and has a lot less pink!
HI Christine!!
i want to ask if “on a mission” and “plum foolery” is almost the same or even close.. which one you prefer??
thank u!
They’re similar, but Plum Foolery is darker, dirtier!
Your reviews are indispensible, and your comparisons are always spot-on. Thank you so much for these reviews, I know you must hear that ALL the time! xxx
Aww, thank you so much, Gail 😀
