NARS Rikugien Satin Lip Pencil Review, Photos, Swatches
NARS Rikugien Satin Lip Pencil
NARS Rikugien Satin Lip Pencil ($25.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “rose pink.” It’s a softened, muted rose with a hint of red and a frosted finish. It has warmer undertones, and when applied, looks less pink on. Revlon Pink Truffle is creamier, darker, less warm-toned. MAC Shanghai Spice is lighter. MAC Gem of Roses is slightly more plum. Guerlain Cherry Blossom is pinker. Rimmel Latino is cooler-toned.
It had mostly opaque color coverage, but compared to other shades in the range, it’s slightly less pigmented–it’s more of a buildable color. The texture is creamy to the touch–when you apply it, it melts against the warmth of your lips, and it delivers a thin, even layer of color that doesn’t feel heavy. It definitely feels creamier than it looks. Rikugien was neither drying nor hydrating, and it lasted for four and a half hours (which I’d say is short of long-wearing, as the average lipstick lasts four hours on me). I’m not overly surprised, as frostier shades tend to be less hydrating compared to their creamier counterparts.

That color looks gorgiepants on you, Christine! This is definitely a color I’ll be adding to my wishlist, STAT. 🙂 Have a great weekend!
Of course the only shade I was interested in had to have a crappy frost finish 🙁
Drugstores brands like Maybelline, Revlon and Cover girl are making very good lipsticks for a reasonable cost compared to higher end brands, I own all types of lipsticks but with such good quality and color choices in drug stores brands I hardly need to buy “average” colored lipsticks from high end companies anymore. Love Nars but this is easily dupable.
YES–need this one soooo bad!!! 😀
I kick myself on an almost daily basis for missing out on Gem of Roses, so I am definitely going to check this out! Thanks for the review:)
Funny, I was thinking “don’t I have something kind of close to this,” and then you mentioned Cherry Blossom. It has a cool button and doesn’t need to be sharpened, so I’ll stick with that. XD
I expected this color to be pinker/cooler (and less wearable for a warm-tone like myself) considering the name of the product.
Looking at the swatches this has gone on my wish list; ) Thanks, Christine!
The Burberry quad look gorgeous on you, Christine!
I’m loving this color and the Burberry Misty Blush you are wearing. Christine, will you be reviewing this blush?
ooooh. I love this one 😀 Not sure if I could spend $25 for it, but I do love it 😀
Hi Christine- I know they are different finishes, but how does this compare to NARS Sex Machine? I’m NW15, and I’m worried this will pull too beige on me. Thanks!
I don’t think I have that! 🙁
I love this! I’m a sucker for rosy pinks. This is also a dupe for Chanel Rouge Coco in Camelia (which I also love).
I’m so in love with this one just based on this review! I’m definitely going to add it to my kit for brides, it’s so stunning. I had a look at Guerlain Cherry Blossom and MAC Shanghai Spice, and this one seems to have more coverage, which I like (I always go off your cute lip-freckle). It looks awesome on you!
Hi Christine, would this be a dupe for the NARS Tolède lipstick? Aside from the different finishes the colour and description is similar
Tolede is not as warm-toned!
