What fragrance was worth the splurge?
Tom Ford Private Blends, for me, have generally been worth the splurge–they usually wear really long and well on me, though I have bought scents that I know will not resonate quite as much on a personal level, and those would be less “worth” the splurge personally.
Sisley Eau du Soir, which has become my signature scent and also Chanel 19 but only the perfume form – none of the other forms (eau de parfume, eau de toilette – if they even still make these) smells at all the same. I’ve been wearing it for close to 40 years, if not more. It’s gorgeousl
Pretty much any Tom Ford fragrance. They work on me. My favs are Lost Cherry, Noir pour femme, Jasmin Rouge, Orchid Noir
My grandma gifted me years ago Coco by Chanel (Eau de Parfum), and since, I always repurchased it when I finished it. It was my first “woman” perfume; I always wore fresh and girly perfume, even if I was going on my thirties, and I liked it so much ! And now that my grandma isn’t here anymore, it’s even more important for me to continue to wear it.
We have a 20% discount when we bring back bottles at Sephora in France, so, the price is less painful at the end.
Masion Margiela Soul of the Forest. It was a blind buy based on the notes on Fragrantica. It was out of stock forever on Sephora, when it came back in stock I bought it immediately. It’s a beautiful forest scent. I’m glad I got it, it seems to have been discontinued.
Aerin Lilac Path was a blind buy for me I splurged on. I love the smell of lilacs and never found anything that came close to the real thing. This is almost it, but I LOVE it. To me, it’s like lilacs with a creaminess/something in the background. I wish I got the bigger bottle. 2nd is Chanel No 5 L’eau. Which I smelled in store before lockdown and also wish I bought the bigger bottle. I do not like the old lady smell of Chanel no 5, but this is much lighter, not as strong.
Lilacs are very special to me too. Such a difficult scent and taste to capture so I must share my newest fragrance find with you if you’re interested in botanical lilac fragrance: wildveilperfume.com
I haven’t tried anything YET. Typical, I can’t decide between Lilac enfleurage or Lilacs and Labdanum or what. You can look up just what they have with Lilacs. Hope it helps.
Tom Ford Black Orchid. I love it so much. It lasts a long time on me and smells divine.
Has anyone tried baccarat rouge 540? I keep hearing how amazing it is but it’s soo $$$
Muse just had a sale price on it. Check Musings of a Muse ASAP. It’s one of her ATFs. She has a review, too.
I have Baccarat Rouge perfume and body cream. It’s very long lasting woody, sweet spicy and super popular. You can buy the travel sizes that are cheaper than a full bottle. A good cheap dupe is Cloud by Ariana Grande.
I have, it’s my signature scent and I’ve been wearing it for years. And it’s worth every last penny. I can’t tell you how many compliments I get, and how many people ask me about what scent I’m wearing. Including most of my best friends. I just tell my best friends it’s Victoria’s Secret because I don’t want them to all to go out and buy it and smell like me 😂
They make a hair mist and a body oil – both only a hundred bucks. They are NOT s as strong as the perfume, don’t get me wrong on that, but it’s a good way to try out the brand without spending the usual $300 for a baby bottle.
I had a sample and was disappointed, but scents are so personal. It was very sweet to me. I have seen so many people describe it as this intense, sexy scent (I prefer musks and orientals – Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille, Viktor +Rolf Spicebomb, Maison Margiela Jazz Club) and this was anything but sexy (to me). I smell none of the cedar and resin that are supposed to be the base notes.
Tom Ford Black Orchid! I absolutely love it, even though I don’t get all that many opportunities to wear it anymore.
do you like Tom Ford’s rose or peach ones? they are super expensive. is it worth the money?
This may be a plug for Isabella, but Muse’s tips (CosBar, but not the current sale) got me Creed at 50% off. Himalaya, Original Vetiver, and Millesime Imperial. Still a splurge, but seriously, a 3 bottles for the price of 1.5 deal. I wanted Himalaya for about 5-10 years, so, thrilled.
The Hermès Jardin line. They are modern masterpieces to me!
Killian “Good Girl Gone Bad” … It was love from the first for me and I always returned to it .
My favorite perfume Le Labo’s Vanille 44 is a splurge. But I only buy a bottle every other year since I wear other different scents according to my mood. I recently purchased a bottle of Roja Dove’s Sweetie Aoud it was the most that I’ve ever spent on a perfume but it’s so unique and I absolutely love it! Perfume is one of my passions.
Le Labo, Rose 31! 🥰
Back in the day the fragrance that was worth the splurge was the original Chloe. I still love it, and it still makes me feel beautiful.
I agree, so beautiful. smells like money!! meaning it smells very expensive.
I have more than a few expensive perfumes that I love – Elizabeth and James one, Dior’s Mademoiselle, Laura Tonatto’s Rose, Tom Ford’s Black Orchid plus lots and lots more. I really love my perfumes and always buy the eau de parfam, not the toilettes.
MFK Baccarat Rouge 540. Just makes me happy. A bit too much in the dead of summer but otherwise I wear it as much as I can. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever smelled before. Sweet but not cloying. Complex.
Benevolence from House of Sillage in a stunning bottle decked with Swarovski crystals. It was a blind buy of my husband’s, and the scent is so delicate and beautiful. It’s so addictive and I think I will always have it! 🙂
The original Marni perfume!! I smelled it in Vogue when I was a teenager and loved it so much I tore out the page and kept it with my clothes. It was a huge splurge back when I was a college student and I still have it and love it.
Same. My Tobacco Vanille is many years old now and just as gorgeous as the first day.
Wish I could say the same for the Replica Jazz Club. I bought the travel size, adored it, used it up, purchased the full size and…..Their formula is inconsistent. The travel I picked up smelled deep and almost leathery and more unisex to masculine. The full size is almost entirely tuberose with just a hint of the depth it SHOULD have. Ugh. Tuberose for me is not unisex – especially when it’s such a strong part of the formulation – and I’m not here for it.
During Barney’s going out of business sale, I bought some long lusted after Frederick Malle – En Passant (fresh lilac heaven) and Dans Te Bras (mysterious, tender). Even on sale, a splurge – but worth it.
Hermes Le Jardin de Monsieur Li – it’s a kind of a floral, grassy scent that I hadn’t really seen before but I love it. It’s crisp but in a green, lightly floral way.
Maison Margiela perfumes are my favorites — I have a strong sense of smell and really like the more offbeat scents. I don’t know if I’d consider them a splurge since they’re cheaper than many alternatives but worth it: Jazz Club is a favorite, as is Whispers in the Library. Under the Lemon Trees goes in and out of favor with me — sometimes it’s a lovely, fresh scent and sometimes I think it smells like household cleaner.
Coco by Chanel and Miss Pucci. The only fragrances that I would buy again.
At least, I would repurchase Miss Pucci, if it still wasn’t discontinued. Heartbreaking. It’s the perfect summer scent, fresh and citrus and works perfectly with my body chemistry.
It used to be Gaultier Le Male for so long. I still prefer unisex and what are considered masculine scents. Occasionally it was Libertine or something else femme from Vivienne Westwood or Thierry Mugler. I think it was more about the bottles. I got sick and couldn’t handle traditional artificial fragrances. I’ll occasionally splurge on a full size Carnival Wax fragrance from Agatha Blois and love it to death. So unusual. Not vegan so quite strong. The samples last a long time!
I never regretted any botanical vegan fragrance purchases from Black Earth Botanica and LVNEA (new 1s arrived last night). Not a major splurge but a recent treat: Bane Folk’s Mandragora and Moonflower. They’re so intoxicating!
Carolina Herrera Good Girl makes me feel like a goddess whenever I wear it 🙂
