Did you make any beauty-related resolutions for 2021? How are they going?

Nope, no real resolutions! I often have goals, in general, but they’re more fluid and ongoing. In beauty, I don’t usually have many goals (I tend to have more life/financial ones).

I decided to try and use more my current palettes and not buy anything unless it was incredibly special, but I have already bought the ND big Love palette and tempted to buy more ND and Pat McGrath, two very expensive brands to be only worn at home or for my boyfriend who only says “oh sparkly”! Lol

I did not. As a cynic, I feel that new year’s resolutions (as part of the cultural cycle of indulgent consumerism during late fall/early winter transitioning to a refocus of spending toward diet culture, restricting, and purging) are often doomed, lol.
I let myself have plans for 2020 anyway, which were all canceled when our government decided to handle the pandemic by ignoring it and hoping it would go away on its own 😂😭 So my goals will continue to not be based on the Gregorian calendar year and its arbitrary holidays!!

Not specific for 2021 in particular, but I wanted to use more of the 2 lipsticks I still have in my collection (I decluttered slowly all other ones during last year). Let’s say I haven’t made any progress. 😅 With work from home and masks outside, I can push myself to apply lipstick even once a day even if I wear makeup otherwise.

I resolved to be more mindful about how I make purchases. I am searching out woman- and minority-owned brands and I am thinking about the best way to make purchases. I understand that if one purchases directly from a brand’s website, the brand gets to keep more of the purchase price but I also wonder whether it is more important to a brand’s success that it does well in retail outlets. I am still looking for information about that. I also resolved to be more aware of the environmental impact of packaging. Finally, now that Nordstrom is accepting empty packaging for recycling, I am trying to give it preference over Sephora and Ulta.

No. I don’t do “new year’s resolutions”, instead I just begin doing the thing I want to change. Consistency and discipline get results.

Anyway, I have continued my theme of the last few years of using what I have and only purchasing new or unique items I don’t already have. This year, though, I will be focusing more on complexion products. Turns out I managed to acquire about five concealers and three foundations. Weird as I don’t use foundation and only a teeny amount of concealer on a daily basis. So, yeah, be using those up before purchasing anything new in that category.

As an aside, my committment to using what I have rather than purchasing new means I finished four or five (I really should have kept better track) lipglosses last year and a few balms. After taking a good look at some of my nude lipsticks they’re showing some good progress too, several are half or less.

Nope – no resolutions did I make for this year. I think after the year we had last year (and it is still on-going), it’s pretty difficult to make resolutions/plans etc.
As far as beauty related goals go, I just buy what I need and what I absolutely love (not just like).

I don’t really do New Years resolutions, but I have been working on curating my makeup collection. Last month I put a try on the top of my vanity for makeup I haven’t really used much just so it’s on my face when I go to get ready. I’ve been working on figuring out if I like some random foundations recently so I can pass on the ones I don’t before they go off. I have to many that I really would like to form some stronger feelings about so they don’t just get looked over. Now is a good time to test things out since I’m not going anywhere and if my foundation doesn’t work out there will be no witnesses other than my husband and very young children.

I did not make any beauty related resolutions. My resolutions for 2021 have all been documentation-related; I want to do a better job of tracking how many miles I’ve run and how many books I’ve read. If I do take on a makeup resolution, it would either be to track how much I buy (almost certainly too much) or to finish swapping out products for my allergy-prone skin. I have been slowly phasing out irritating products and replacing them with better options, and so far I’m pleased with the results.

So not for 2021 per se but more after being home for almost a year and realizing that I had so much and used such a small portion of it, I resolved to make a loose schedule where I rotated my eye palettes, blushes, highlighters, and lipsticks. I make notes of what I wear, whether it’s easy or hard to use them, how they make me feel, and if I look forward to using them (for example, there are a couple of eye palettes I keep moving down to the bottom of the pile so I can use others before them). It’s really helping me! I’m able to recognize what colors and formulas I’m drawn to, and what formulas I’ll put up with for a particular look or color (fussy but perfect shade of red lipstick, messy but sparkly eyeshadow, etc). And it’s helping me shop my stash, appreciate what I have, recognize my personal tastes, and destash what doesn’t get used. It’s not a Low Buy necessarily, but it’s become that de facto.

I am of course, ready to add to cart when the SG x Temptalia collab comes out, and if PMG releases a green mothership, I’ll probably be adding that as well. I’m actually really excited about it, and it’s made me excited to put on makeup. Also it’s helped me let go of things with less guilt because I have “hard data” on why I don’t and probably never will use it more. 😂
