Paris Edit

Viseart Paris Edit Edit Eyeshadow Palette ($39.00 for 0.28 oz.) is a new addition to the brand’s core range that is a riff on the original Paris Nudes 12-pan palette. Overall, the palette applied better than it swatched, which is typical of Viseart’s formula, but I definitely felt like a few shades were under-pigmented and/or more powdery, so it was one of the least impressive Viseart palettes I’ve tried. For the types of tones and shades in the palette, the misses were a surprise.

As someone who loved to the original (one of my all-time favorites for awhile), I found this one to be lacking. Part of what made Paris Nudes special was actually the finer, smoother sheen from each shade, and I felt like this one ran more metallic and included mattes. I don’t know that it recreated the feel of the original but doesn’t feel like it pairs well with the original either. The quality of the original, though mine is from five years ago, was more consistent and performed better for the few shades that overlapped.

Petale

Petale is a muted, light-medium pink with strong, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had medium coverage, which was buildable to semi-opaque coverage, but there was enough powderiness to it that I would recommend pairing it with primer to get full coverage out of it. There was a touch of fallout during application, so if I was using it on the brow bone area again, I’d apply it sooner rather than later. The color started to fade noticeably after eight hours of wear.

The eyeshadow formula is supposed to be "pigment[ed]" with "smooth and even application" that is "long-lasting." The matte shades are typically semi-opaque to opaque but buildable with soft, velvety textures that can sometimes be a little powdery or slightly firm, depending on the shade. I find that the mattes are often best suited to someone who likes control over pigmentation and may prefer to build up color; they regularly perform better in practice than just swatched on the arm as well.

The shimmer shades range from satin to metallic, and the more metallic shades tend to feel creamier to the touch, while the satin ones have a fine pearl to them that looks almost melted on the lid once blended out. Both the mattes and shimmers are blendable and easy to work with. Most of Viseart's eyeshadows wear between seven and nine hours on me.

Champs-Elysees

Champs-Elysees is a bright, white gold with subtle, warm yellow undertones and a metallic sheen. It had nearly opaque color coverage with a soft consistency that wasn’t pressed too firmly nor too softly into the pan, so it picked up well with a brush but wasn’t prone to fallout. It wore nicely for eight and a half hours before fading visibly.

Creme Brulee (Paris Edit)

Creme Brulee (Paris Edit) is a very light, slightly peachy brown with moderate, warm undertones and a matte finish. It wasn’t as rosy as some lighter browns are, but it wasn’t as orange-toned either, so it was harder to categorize it (possibly “very dark peach” might be more apt; still mulling it over). The texture was soft, smooth, and blendable without being too powdery in the pan. The eyeshadow had rich pigmentation that lasted well for eight and a half hours before fading a bit.

There’s another shade by the same name in the Neutral Mattes Milieu palette, but they were drastically different, so this shade has been added a separate shade. Based on how different they were, it seemed more an issue of using the name twice rather than being that off in reproduction.

Fleur

Fleur is a muted, medium-dark mauve with neutral-to-cool undertones and a matte finish. It had buildable coverage from semi-opaque to opaque pigmentation in two layers. The texture was soft, blendable, and smooth without being too firmly nor too softly pressed into the pan. The color applied evenly and wore well for eight and a half hours before fading visibly.

Opera

Opera is a brighter, light-medium pink with warm undertones and a metallic finish. The eyeshadow yielded opaque coverage, while the texture felt a little creamier and thicker, but it was more loosely-pressed so I had to be careful to press and pat it into place to avoid light fallout. There were signs of fading after eight and a half hours of wear.

Beaux-Arts

Beaux-Arts is a light-medium copper with warmer undertones and a soft, frosted finish. It seemed slightly drier and less firmly-pressed, so there was some tendency to sheer out, light fallout, and a bit of excess that kicked up in the pan. It had semi-opaque, buildable coverage that lasted well for eight hours.

The color seemed to be a little more muted, less opaque, and rustier (not as golden) compared to the original I have from five or so years ago.

Tulle is a light-medium coral with warmer undertones and a matte finish. The texture was moderately powdery, so there was light fallout during application and a tendency to sheer out. It was better built up over primer, but I was able to get to semi-opaque coverage in two layers without primer. It wore well for eight hours before fading noticeably.

Cerise

Cerise is a muted, medium-dark burgundy with warm undertones and flecks of micro-sparkle over a matte finish. The texture was slightly drier with some powderiness, though it applied evenly and blended out well. It was the kind of shade that seems like it would be problematic but ended up better applied than merely swatched. There was some unintended diffusion of sparkles beyond where I was blending, though. It stayed on well for eight and a half hours before fading visibly.

Saint Germain

Saint Germain is a medium-dark, purplish-taupe with cool undertones and a pearly sheen. The texture was more emollient and thinner, but it also seemed drier in a way–like the barest crumbles–as it sheered out very readily and was difficult to apply evenly to build up coverage. It wore well for eight hours before fading visibly.

When really heavily packed on and minimally blended, the color was very close to the original I have (from five years ago), but the performance of the one in this palette is much poorer so they don’t quite look the same applied.

Tuileries (Paris Edit) is a medium plum with strong, warm undertones and a pearly sheen. The texture was smooth, lightly creamy, and dense without being too thick. It had excellent color payoff that applied well to bare skin and blended out with ease. This shade lasted well for nine hours before fading visibly.

There is shade by the same name in the Golden Hour palette, but it was a different color entirely–matte black!–so there’s nothing to compare this to, but I wanted to make that clear!

What a mixed bag of results this one is – it’s really quite poor when a brand releases an updated version of a beautiful palette to now turn it into something quite ordinary. What a disappointment it is.
If a brand can’t get a lovely taupe shade right (Saint Germain), it makes you wonder about what is going on in the production process.
A lovely eye look Christine.

Wow! Two C-minus and a D. Not at all what I would have expected from Viseart. I had sort of decided not to buy this palette because I think I can get similar looks with what I already own but now it is a definite no. Thanks, Christine.

Denise S. Avatar

Gee not the best rating.I’m glad I didn’t jump on this one like I usually do with Viseart palettes. This color scheme is so similar to all of the other pinky/mauve eye shadows I own I decided to skip it. I may buy a couple of their new lip glosses though.

Christine Avatar

Thanks for the suggestion! Right now, I have the next 2 weeks of swatches that I have to for sure get through that are a higher priority (I can’t plan very far out since I don’t necessarily know what’s coming out when), so I don’t know if or when there will be time to do so (that I could justify taking away from something else). I’m physically only able to swatch so much on my arm before the skin reddens (or dries out/turns flaky), so I have to allocate that time to higher priority items first.

Tracy Avatar

Wow! What a mixed bag of good and bad. Thank you, Christine. This seals the deal for me, and I will be picking up the original Paris Nudes when MuseBeauty has their next sale.

I actually received this palette today and was really underwhelmed by how it looks in person compared to what it looks like online. After ready this review, I’m just going to send it back. You still created an absolutely stunning look.

In spite of its issues, I still find it stunning!
And having lived in Paris, and been a ballerina, I find the shade names that are being difficult hilariously appropriate! There’s always a problem with Tulle, Les Beaux Arts, and Saint Germain, etc. and Les Tuileries are never the same twice, and so on…
It’ll help me remember when to spritz my brush (or finger) with Evian Water, and the difference between palettes. Autrement, je suis sous le charme. I think this one will be mine.

Lovely little travel palette, but sadly it didn’t do well enough for me to have an interest. I’ve learned from past disappoint when I didn’t follow your ratings B+ or better. (I think only once, maybe twice, have I disagreed with you, so this saves me money.) 😉
