We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Your skin tone/coloring: fair, cool
Favorite look from the week: nothing really stands out and as I was only going to the gym, a medical appointment and out in the blasting heat, makeup wasn’t a big priority
Your most used product this week: Australian Gold tinted sunscreen and perhaps Casterly Rock eyeshadow from the UD Game of Thrones palette (such a beautiful colour even used all on its own in this blisteringly hot weather)
Any beauty discoveries… TonyMoly bamboo water facial mist – BLISSFUL (and, of course, discontinued); the fact that Costco now sells a 2-pack of large Evian spray for less than 1 would cost anywhere else (I went to school in Nice many, many years ago and Evian in a spray can was ubiquitous then, long before the concept arrived in N. America).

Coloring: Under my name. Green eyes, s&p hair

Favorite Look: EYES—Urban Decay singles (Riff in crease, Chains on entire lid), then added a pop shimmery gold on just the center of the lid using Dandy (from the Colourpop Uh Huh Honey palette). Chanel Stylo Yeux eyeliner in Celadon lightly smudged on outer third of lower lash line, Colourpop Precision Brow Colour (gel pot) in Cool Cocoa, Tarte Lights Camera Lashes Mascara.
FACE—Estée Lauder Double Wear Makeup, Lancôme Effacernes Waterproof Concealer, RCMA No Color Powder, MAC Mineralize Blush in Sweet Enough.
LIPS—Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Melancolie.

Most Used Products: Estée Lauder Double Wear Makeup, Lancôme Effacernes Waterproof Concealer, RCMA No Color Powder, Colourpop Precision Brow Colour (gel pot).

Beauty Discovery: This is not so much a beauty discovery as it is a beauty realization. I’ve been looking through my past “favorite look” posts on Temptalia and realized how boring I am. I’ve listed the same few looks over and over. This has motivated me to get more creative. And so, inspired by a Temptalia comment I recently read (I’m sorry, I can’t remember who posted it), I got the “Decide Now!” roulette wheel app and uploaded all my palettes plus a category called MAC singles and one called UD singles. A spin of the wheel will tell me what to use each morning. I’m allowing myself to go outside the palette for supporting colors, if necessary, because not every palette works on its own. Should be fun!

Mariella Avatar

My looks are much like your – all pretty neutral and tame, which suits my lifestyle, but I have so many eyeshadows that I really should check out that app and consider adding at least my newest palettes and my favourite singles from UD, MAC, Nars and a few others. It seems like it would be really time consuming but also a lot of fun to use.

Mariella, just adding my palettes into the Decide Now! app made me realize how ridiculously big my collection is. It’s time to start using all those colors! A feature I really like is that when it chooses a palette, you can choose to “deactivate” that palette on the wheel so it can’t come up on future spins. That way, you can go through all your palettes before you reactivate the whole thing to start over again. I’m trying it for the first time on Monday. I’ll probably spin the wheel before selecting my outfit.

Seraphine, I was wondering about the Lancome Efacernes concealer and whether it would be too drying for my older under eye skin? I have fairly dry skin and some concealers just make the area under my eyes look like the Mojave Desert no matter how much moisturizer, primer, etc that I apply. I have seen several more mature women on YT say that they like it for their under eyes but I would prefer to hear from someone who isn’t making YT videos about products. What are your thoughts on the concealer?

Seraphine Avatar

I had been using Shape Tape for a long time, but decided to try a lighter formula because it was hard to keep it from looking cakey on my crepey undereye area. The Lancôme doesn’t cover dark circles as well as Shape Tape, but it looks a lot more natural, texture-wise. I am satisfied with it, but I wouldn’t call it a “holy grail” concealer. It suits my aging eyes better than anything else I’ve tried so far. (And you get a lot of product for the money!)

Deborah S. Avatar

Thank you, Seraphine. I used Shape Tape for a long time and found that it worked for me if I used the tiniest amount but then it didn’t really give me the coverage so what was the point? If I applied it to really cover then I had the same issues. I am 65 and don’t have particularly strong wrinkles under my eyes but the skin is crepey so it would look dry and not attractive. I am going to try the Lancome. It has a following in the over 50 YT community. Thank you for your insight.

Your skin tone/coloring: By my name! (Blue-green eyes)

Favorite look from the week: Whatever it was I did yesterday? Nothing special, but very pretty in a soft way.
Eyes: MAC Orb browbone, Kid transition, Folie to define and deepen crease, Nylon tearducts, ColourPop Koosh inner lid, MAC Superwatt outer 2/3 lid, used Smashbox Fishnet Always On Eye Pencil for more than just my tightline, I also did a slightly smudgey kitten flick with it. Used UD 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil on lower lashline.
Cheeks: UD Jawbone, MAC Oh My Passion, Fenty Metal Moon.
Lips: Nyx Mahogany SLP, PMG Omi MatteTrance lipstick with some Heavy Petal LUST Gloss on top.

Your most used product this week: All my summer HG items have been in full force!

Any beauty discoveries (new or old): When it’s 114° outside, go simple if you need to leave the house! Because a gorgeous blue/green/purple look I did trying to replicate what ND Tropic Mini could look like epically FAILED in that heat! Also, I cannot figure out how to connect my phone to my Simple Human mirror…? Apparently, I need a WiFi connection. Idk? I’m technologically incompetent. But I really love how spectacularly clear I can see everything!

Skin tone: Under my name.

Favorite look: I am going to stick with the look I referenced in an earlier question this week and that would be using the Kaleidos Futurism Sci-Fi Green palette. I used all of the shades except the black in the palette. I used Radioactive in the crease and up onto the brow bone as my transition. I blended Smog and ET into the crease for depth and added ET to the outer V. I used Nuclear over the majority of the mobile lid and then used Glamora on the middle of the mobile lid for a lighter shade to make the lid pop a little. For my base I used Dior Forever Skin Glow in 2N. I didn’t use bronzer but used Ciate Summer Love for my blush and since it is shimmery I didn’t add any additional highlighter. I used my usual MAC Fix + and Guerlain Meteorites in 02 Claire. For my lips I used a peachy/brownish shade that I honestly don’t know the name of it but it is an older lipstick from Max Factor back when they were still available in the states. The label has worn off but the lipstick is still going strong. No funky smell or taste. I really liked Max Factor lip products back in the day!

Most used product: The Dior Forever Skin Glow in 2N. I was a little skeptical about the shade because I invariably end up with the lightest shade and this was the third lightest, if memory serves me. The SA from Dior took me outside with several shades of the Forever Skin Glow and applied them on my face, neck and upper chest. We both agreed that 2N was a good match. She also told me that the reason I was getting conflicting information about my undertone is because my face is very cool with lots of pink/peach undertone and my lower neck and chest is warm toned. We agreed to match to my lower neck and chest since the makeup would be covering the cooler face. As for the depth, it is again matched to my neck and chest. My face is about 2-3 shades lighter than my skin elsewhere. So, with that information I have thrown away a lot of foundations that have been sitting around because I knew the shade was off.
I purchased the foundation one day and then the next I used it to get ready for the Queen concert and I stopped back at the mall and spoke to the SA again and we went outside again to look at my face in natural light and she was really nice and helpful. We both agreed that it was the perfect shade and that my blush wasn’t too dark!! I was worried because I was using one of the more pigmented blushes that I picked up the day before and my motel room was so dark I couldn’t get a good read on it. When I went outside I thought it looked too dark but wasn’t sure since I was really focusing on it. She said it was perfect so I am happy with both of those purchases.

New discoveries: Nothing this week.

Genevieve Avatar

That Kaleidos Futurism Sci-Fi Green palette is gorgeous, I had to look it up and I thought it would be perfect for you. What a beautiful array of shades.
I can understand your dilemma re the foundation shade, but I wouldn’t throw any of your old ones out quite yet because you might be a different shade in winter (more porcelain).
The light in motels can be tricky to get your makeup on correctly too.
I hope you enjoyed your concert too.

Deborah S. Avatar

Thank you, Genevieve. I cannot tell you how much I loved the concert. I have been a Queen fan since the late 70’s onward but had never taken the opportunity to see them in concert. When the band was on their first tour of the US Brian May became quite ill and they had to cancel the tour. He went home to England and was diagnosed with Hepatitis C. By the time they were ready to tour the US again, their music video for the song, “I Want To Break Free” had hit and it was denounced in the US because of the cross dressing in the video. Queens popularity here suffered and MTV would not play the video here in the USA. Everyone thought it was Freddie’s decision to make the video with all four of them dressed as women but in reality it was John Deacon, the quiet member of the group and the principle writer of the song, who came up with the idea. They toured other countries many times but didn’t do a full tour of the US again. They did appear in occasional shows in the US. Anyway, I didn’t get to see them when Freddie was alive and before John quit touring with them. This was truly a dream come true for me and I enjoyed every minute of it. So many of the artists that I grew up listening to are on their “farewell” tours. They are in their 70’s and 80’s. There are several others I want to see before they stop touring all together.

Your skin tone/coloring: Very fair with dark features
Favorite look from the week: all over the lid a shade in the NARS Ignited palette, Fuse. A really stunning warm brown base with a blue/purple glitter reflect. No liner and just a lot of mascara. (L’oreal lash paradise)
Your most used product this week: NARS hot nights palette. Really smooth and the bronzer is a surprisingly good (and light) shade for my skintone.
Any beauty discoveries (new or old): Colourpop glosses. I kind of forgot about these in my drawer and I pulled them back out and remembered how much I love them. Not a fan of the newer brush applicators but I’ve taken the doe foot ones out of some of the older glosses that I don’t really reach for often (glittery/occasion or colors I just don’t wear much anymore) and swapping them with the brush applicators. Will be much more inclined to reach for them now.
