Do you write reviews for products you've tried?
No, never. Not even once! Are you crazy? Why would I do that??!

Comments that do not adhere to our comment policy may be removed. Discussion and debate are highly encouraged but we expect community members to participate respectfully. Please keep discussion on-topic, and if you have general feedback, a product review request, an off-topic question, or need technical support, please contact us!
Please help us streamline the comments' section and be more efficient: double-check the post above for more basic information like pricing, availability, and so on to make sure your question wasn't answered already. Comments alerting us to typos or small errors in the post are appreciated (!) but will typically be removed after errors are fixed (unless a response is needed).
We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!
We try to approve comments within 24 hours (and reply to them within 72 hours) but can sometimes get behind and appreciate your patience! 🙂 If you have general feedback, product review requests, off-topic questions, or need technical support, please contact us directly. Thank you for your patience!
I sure do. As Christine knows, I write some reviews here; I also review products at Sephora’s site (even ones I’ve purchased at Shoppers or the Bay but which are carried at Sephora as well). And I post a LOT of reviews at Makeupalley. It’s a site I use a great deal to read about products I’m considering before I purchase them and it’s also where I learn/read about new products. And I figure if I want to take advantage of the information posted there, the very least I can do is contribute and support the site.
I do ! …especially if its the wrong color ….kidding……?
Ha!
I rarely do. I generally only do when the product is “OMG THIS IS HOLY GRAIL AMAZING” in an effort to make sure the company gets the feedback and thinks twice about discontinuing it. I will sometimes do it when a product is so horrible (like across the board can’t even be chalked up to subjective judgment or taste) that it would make me feel bad if other people wasted their money, too.
Otherwise, I feel like it’s so subjective that I just don’t have the experience or knowledge to understand the nuances to write something that would be helpful to others. But I appreciate the people who do and I read reviews. I usually just participate in “what’s your favorite” kind of things, but maybe I should attempt reviews more often.
Sometimes if there aren’t any reviews of a product to begin with! Some products are lonely and want you to talk about them…
Love this! 🙂
I have written a few. Mostly positive. I did write one that was critical bc the packaing let too much product come out so you went through it too fast imo.
I feel as though I am not good at describing things so I steer clear of it.
Yes I do, if I feel that what I have to say would be helpful to someone else. I get specific in my reviews, giving examples and some details to explain my assessment and experience. I also give tips if needed; for example, if a product works better under certain conditions or I learn about a policy, procedure or practice that can affect the experience. In fact, I just got a Trip Advisor account because I felt that some things needed to be shared about places I was staying or eating.
But if I don’t have anything much to say, other than “excellent” or whatever, then I usually don’t leave a review because I don’t think those type of reviews are helpful at all.
Hahahahaha! Christine! The very IDEA that you might write reviews! Who could think such a thing! 😉
I have, but not enough. I keep telling myself I should be a more involved consumer and share my honest opinions, but … I … get lazy? Bad consumer! Bad!
Your response above has me rolling! ???
Actually, only a handful of times have I ever left any sort of commentary on an actual brand site or retailer. I have made quips here and there about something I have purchased or tried a decent enough sample of to have formed a firm opinion of right here in the “comments” section of Temptalia. But an official review? I don’t believe I have.
You’re funny!!
I actually sometimes write mini mini reviews as facebook statuses -especially if a product is marvelous or REALLY disappointing!
Seldom. I used to on S, But currently Mac products don’t work on the reviewing sections. (Had 96% useful) Lots of other incompatibility, but certainly not on the order section. I NEVER comment, if I think the issue is idiosyncratic to me (reactions) color choice/color anomaly related: I own those. I might comment, if a product has an ingredient that is FDA non-GRAS (generally recognized as safe, or comes up questionable on Cosdna or Paula ingredients dictionary. Those comments are usually published, but largely get thumbs down. Who cares? If you want to be ignorant, and value marketing over science, so be it.
Rarely. Sephora has deleted some of my 1 and 2 star reviews but has kept up my 4 and 5 star reviews which makes me feel like not supporting the website with my reviews. Especially since they can’t take the bad with the good.
Yes. I use reviews to make my decision on buy or not buy a certain product. So, I also tell people what I thought of the said product. It will help someone that uses the same shades, have the same kind of allergy, etc.
Christine, you crack me up! 😀
I do if I have the time, and I have something helpful to say.
Lol Christine!
I read reviews to help me in my purchases, so if I think my review will be helpful to others I will leave a review.
So funny, Christine!
I never leave reviews. I don’t have the expertise to differentiate small differences. I think a lot of my reviews are subjective and wouldn’t want to penalize a product just because I don’t like it and sometimes, I am not even sure why I don’t like it! I mean, take Farmacy Honeymoon Glow. I just finished up using it for 6 months to determine if I liked it. It didn’t do anything crazy on my skin, didn’t smell or feel yicky but I just knew I wouldn’t be repurchasing. I wouldn’t be able to write a review that was beneficial.
I try to do my best to write comprehensive reviews for all the products I use. I don’t know how many of them are actually read by others (especially on products with thousands of reviews), but I’m always putting my opinion out there. It’s also fun sometimes to read my own reviews on products I used many years ago and forgot about. 😆
Yes, I do write reviews of products I have tried here in different surveys.
I have also written reviews for products on beautyheaven in Aus. Sometimes really positive and sometimes with a few constructive criticisms included.
I can’t say never but very rarely. Most reviews I write are related to household products and my success in a particular sutuation.
I really don’t recall writing revuews on cosmetic or skuncare products
Very rarely.
I’m not very good at describing makeup, and skincare is so very individual I don’t feel my reviewing would be helpful to others.
I have written a few, mostly at the Glossy Box site.
I do review sellers at E-bay and Amazon, I’ve also written a few on clothing, a lot easier than writing about makeup.
*snorts at Christine’s answer*
I occasionally do.
Yep. Still a fan of makeupalley for average user reviews that won’t be deleted by the brand or store.
I forgot about MakeupAlley! Yes I have written many on there. I need to get back to that.
I go in phases with this. Usually it starts because something really moves me, either soooo good or sooo bad. Then I’ll do them for awhile, everywhere I can. Influenster, Ulta, Sephora, the brand’s site, etc. Then it tapers off until something else really moves me.
I do every once in a while.
I do usually even it it’s negative. Like someone said it is subjective. I feel that reading reviews of things I’m interested in helps me figure out if it’s worth the money, etc.
I used to do it pretty diligently with everything I tried, but don’t really do it anymore. These days, I’m more compelled to write a review if there’s something seriously wrong with a product than if it’s amazing.
I often do. But only to my friends on messenger, nothing official. Mostly because I’m a cosmetics hoarder and have more stuff than my friends, so it’s natural for them to ask me for an opinion or me to share with my thoughts.
Yes, I write reviews on my own blog, whether the product was good or bad. I want to tell the world! Also, I know I’m not the only one, I am one of several voices that one will stumble upon when looking for reviews, and that is good. And best of all, I can keep track of what has worked for me so that I don’t accidentally buy the same dud twice!
Yes I have, but I rarely do.
