What would you like to see next when it comes to highlighters?
I’d love to see more highlighting blushes, but I’d almost like to see this as a full-on trend/product launch, where there’s real thought into making the underlying blush color work with the highlighting effect. I’m thinking in the vein of products like Dior Hologlam, where it really feels like two shades in one but seamlessly applied, and Natasha Denona’s Duo Glows like Pink Champagne (from the Darya palette).
Dior nailed “perfection” for me with their Glowing Pink Glowing Gardens highlighter from a few years back (which was, of course, LE). Same with UD’s Aura highlighter (now discontinued!). GRRRR! I like the MAC ED blush in Into the Pink because it really seems to achieve what you’ve described, Christine – a blush and highlighter “in one”, so to speak, though that’s not always the look I’m after so I’m usually (though not always) happier with a blush separate from a highlighter.
I agree with you except that I’d prefer the product to be more of a blush and less of a highlighter–a shimmery blush. I guess my answer would be more to your question of what I’d like to see next when it comes to blushes. 🙂 I just tried the Wattabrat highlighter, hoping to use it as a blush, and wow, that was way too glittery and wet-looking for me but the pink part was lovely.
Because I love my mini pan of ND Pick Champagne, I would really love to see more duochrome color shifting highlighters like that! Like that, as in the more traditional colors. That pink to gold shift is still very easy to pull off for regular daytime usage. Same goes for Nyx Synthetica highlighter. Not to say that I have stopped loving my more ethereal, otherworldly highlighter shades (KVD Emerald and Sapphyre, and the like). But, I do certainly appreciate more shades like those I first mentioned!
Personally I would like to see more highlighters with a luminous finish and not with a metallic or glittery one. As for the powder blushes, I prefer the semi-matte or satin ones. The highlighting blushes can be tricky; if you have very good skin, without texture, visible pores or other issues, they are a perfect choice. I, for one, don’t apply the highlighter on the apple of my cheeks (or on the same spot where I apply the blush), but rather in a semicircle, starting high my cheekbones, next to the outer corner of my eye, and going up towards my forehead. I don’t bring it under the eyebrow, but above it. I also go below the area where smile lines show when I smile.
More duochromes/colour shifts in unusual combinations (copper/purple!) and deeper colours. I love shimmery highlighting blushers but so many of them are pastel pale or have a white base – I want to see some raspberry and plum and tawny rust shades!
Seconded.
I don’t want more highlighters, I want more blushes! Not glittery or overly shimmery – just more blushes.
I really prefer a highlighting blush as opposed to a highlighter. So it is no surprise that the Ciate Glow to Illuminate blushes are some of my favorites. When the highlighter and the blush compliment each other then it is the perfect pairing for me as I can eliminate highlighter which a lot of the time ends up making my texture look worse and are often too dark for my very fair complexion. I think when I was younger I would have liked the really blinding highlighters but I just can’t pull them off. So, for me the trend would be to much more softer highlighters but I accept that that isn’t going to happen so I have to be much more careful in selecting my highlighters.
I would love to less glitter in highlight, and maybe even an upswing in less in general. When I read your response, the first thing that came to mind were Laura Geller Baked Blushes. I own several, and love the way they provide not only color, but also a gorgeous shimmer.
Yes. I love duochrome.. bring it in a blush/hl hybrid.
I want more duo- and multi-chromes, and in newer color combinations. We’ve seen white-lavender, and purple-blue, white-gold. Let’s see the next level, colorwise.
I’d also like someone to come out with a red HL for me and kjh. 🙂
More highlighting blushes like Hologlam would be wonderful.
And seconding you as well.
That Dior Hologram color is absolutely stunning!!!! Every time I see it here I want to purchase it. And it’s because of what you’ve pointed out, the duo nature of the color and effect it gives.
