What keeps you excited about the beauty industry?

I like seeing how makeup looks and styles evolve over time; I’ve really enjoyed how there are a lot of different types of looks simultaneously, even if there may be some that dominate more than others. I also enjoy seeing more diversity/inclusivity in marketing and in the products released.

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! I really enjoy seeing new fads and finding a way to make them work with the collection that I have. One of my favorite things is to see a new product that I like and try to find a dupe for it in my collection. Also, on the rare occasion that a brand comes out with something truly new and innovative it’s really exciting!

That in this particular time we’re living in, makeup styles have evolved into a true art form that allows for a level of individuality and creativity heretofore unknown. And far more acceptable to wear more than brown eyeshadow, too! Back in the early 80’s, I was one of those who pushed the envelope. Wore black eyeshadow in elaborate, enormous double wings with a brilliant white-gold duochrome on the browbone and true yellow gold on the lid wherever the black and white-gold wasn’t. But this wasn’t mainstream then (quite probably isn’t even now!). As I sit here sipping *forbidden* coffee…I’m thinking about wearing some purpley eyeshadow with a purple cut-crease to my Cath. Too much? Eh, maybe. Might be a bit distracting to the docs. ?

Clearly I got too excited by a Nancy reply; that’s twice I’ve thought her CC was over. I love the learning of the beauty industry, despite that it has been forced on me, rather than elective. Especially skincare..now that there actually is some efficacy, unlike a mere 20 years ago. Being (way) older, I love the historical perspective, how what goes around comes around. I love the International aspect of it, though my postman might find it odd. I love the vast choice we have now, though much is highly repetitive and derivative. I love following the business aspect, parent cos, acquisitions, what happens when lines are taken over. Cerave comes to mind…. And I love the power of the internet…..the ability to research ingredients and shades until my fingers and eyes are numb.

My initial response was a sort of flippant, “Hoping they find a concealer that actually covers my hyperpigmentation!” Sort of only half kidding. I love that there is always something new coming out and for someone who is a veteran shopper that is always exciting. In the big scheme of things, it is a relatively cheap hobby. I really love the fact that it serves a dual purpose as it is a vent for my creative/artistic side and is easier/cheaper than redecorating a room every month. I also really appreciate the people who I have met because of my interest in the beauty community. I am pretty isolated most of the time, just by virtue of where I live so having a daily interaction with people on the blog and IG is rewarding for me and the best part is I can have that interaction in my pj’s.

I love the new colours and shades that the industry keeps putting together, plus all the lovely, great new and inexpensive cruelty free brands that are bringing out high quality singles, like Sydney Grace.
I just love looking colourful and enjoy the creativity of it all.

-new colors/formulas. You would think every color under the sun would have been released by now, but there are still times when I’m impressed by a unique lipstick shade. I also hope to see brands making more products that don’t contain commonly irritating ingredients (this is more of a skincare thing)

-new styles/trends. Though I don’t find myself adopting trends too much, I still like to see what’s popular in mainstream. Sometimes I’ll recreate a look for fun, though it might now necessarily become an everyday look.

-interacting with people through social media. Honestly, I’ve reeled in my interest in makeup a bit over the past couple months, but I still really enjoy reading the posts/comments here or watching a select few youtubers.

I love the newness of it all – new products, new collections, and discovering new brands! I enjoy the creativity that brands use sometimes when coming up with a collection – unicorns, zodiac, tutti frutti, park avenue princess etc. And it’s always fun to see what takes and what’s a dud with the public, and whether I agree.

Seeing that there’s starting to be more of a market understanding (even in companies like Revlon!) that makeup doesn’t have to be about shooting for “classically attractive” or striving for some cookie-cutter perfection.

Now I’m looking forward to the “average” YouTuber figuring that out.
