Sydney Grace Eyeshadows Reviews & Swatches ("Smoky Chartreuse Look")
Lemon Cream
Sydney Grace Lemon Cream Matte Shadow ($5.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a medium yellow with warm undertones and a matte finish. It wasn’t as bright as a true, sunshine yellow, but it wasn’t really muted either–had some depth and brightness to it still. The texture was soft, velvety, and blendable on my skin and maintained its opaque color coverage even on bare skin. It wore well for eight hours on me before it started to fade.

The matte eyeshadows tend to be pigmented (typically semi-opaque or opaque, often buildable if they aren't opaque) with a soft, more velvety texture that has slight slip but isn't so thick that it gets difficult to use, applies unevenly, or has a lot of fallout. I've found that most of the matte eyeshadows apply and blend out without much effort but a few may take a bit more effort to diffuse along the edges. The matte formula tends to wear between eight and eight and a half hours on me.

Fallen
Sydney Grace Fallen Pressed Pigment Shadow ($6.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a medium-dark, olive green with warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It had rich color payoff that applied well to bare skin with a smooth, even application without fallout. I was surprised there wasn’t some fallout as it was more loosely-pressed and seemed a smidgen powdery in the pan. It stayed on nicely for eight hours before it started to fade on me.

Formula Overview

The shimmer eyeshadows are more consistent in pigmentation with the majority of shades having opaque color coverage. The more metallic/sparkly the shade is, the creamier and more emollient the eyeshadow felt in the pan, which often yielded really smooth application and good adherence to the lid, though a few worked better with a fingertip or a dampened brush for true-to-pan color or to get a truer finish/sheen.
Most shades, however, worked well with brushes, and I didn't have trouble applying or blending out most of the shimmer shades. The more satin to pearl like finishes tend to feel a little thinner but blend out well. These shades wore between eight and nine hours on me with some of the more foiled-like shades creasing noticeably at the end (and the less foiled-like ones fading).

Ivy League
Sydney Grace Ivy League Matte Shadow ($5.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a light-medium green with strong, warmer olive undertones and a matte finish. It had medium color payoff in a single layer, which was buildable to semi-opaque coverage with two to three layers. The consistency felt a little drier and thinner, which I think made it particularly reactive to any dampness/oiliness from a primer or in my case, my skin. It blended out without too much effort but had room for improvement. The eyeshadow lasted well for seven and a half hours on me.

Starfish
Sydney Grace Starfish Pressed Pigment Shadow ($6.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a deep, forest green with a warm, black-brown base and cooler emerald green shimmer. It had more of a high pearl finish–finer than frost but not enough shimmer to be metallic. The consistency was denser, more emollient in a way, and I found that the base made the edges look less seamless without a bit of extra blending. It lasted well for eight hours on me before showing signs of wear.

I love the eye look and thank you for using so many of the available green shadows from Sydney Grace. I have several in my cart to try and dupe the Smoke Sessions palette but some of the shades they say are dupes are not available as single pan eye shadows. I will probably order all the available shades and then dupe the others from different brands. Thank you, Christine, for the review and such a lovely eye look. It is not the usual mix of green/blue/brown and that appeals to me.
These colors are my LIFE! I want them all!
OMG – is this brand turning out the beautiful green shades in abundance? If you don’t like all the shades in Melt Cosmetics Smoke palette (or the drug related connotations) then you could easily dupe your favourite shades from this collection.
Love Fallen and Starfish the best. Stunning eye look Christine.
Genevieve, that’s an excellent idea! And I do believe that with the vast amount of shades that Sydney Grace has available, it is very doable. I’m certainly planning on it!
I am having serious heart eyes over Fallen, swoon!
First let me say that this eye look is magnificently murky and swampy in a really good way! Like a tropical rainforest.
Sooo….Fallen, Dazzle and Starfish are the 3 that are truly appealing to me. I do have some excellent green mattes that are dupes for these SG green mattes, thank goodness.
I bought Siren Call, hoping it would be a dupe or at least close enough to function the same as ABH Untamed. However, it pulls SUPER bright on me. It is not muted at all and doesn’t look anything like it does here. It is funny how different things can look on different people. It might make a fun and bright eyeliner or something. Oh well, the search continues for an inexpensive single that works like Untamed!
You have such a way with color combos, Christine! Your looks make me want to wear bright colors ALL THE TIME.
