OCC Iced Lip Tar Review, Photos, Swatches
OCC Iced Lip Tar
I’ll Take My Lip Tar Iced!
OCC Iced Lip Tar ($16.00 for 0.33 fl. oz.) is described as an “opaque snow white frost.” It’s a bright white with a shimmered, silver-tinted metallic sheen. You’d think a shade like this I’d be dupe-less, but alas! MAC Metal Maven is more silver. MAC Bubbles is similar in color but because it is very sheer, it looks pinker as my natural lip color came through quite a bit.
Of the six new shades from Metallurgy, Iced was the only one I had some trouble with. Though it can be worn alone, it looks best when worn as a sheer layer. What I struggled with was unevenness when I went to wear it on its own. Using it as a sheer layer definitely makes it easier to achieve evenness, but I was able to get mostly even color that was more opaque after playing with it. The key with this one was to be really careful about how much was applied and pat it on in layers. This shade is also the most versatile for mixing, as it will lighten and add sheen to any other Lip Tar. Â When I test drove this shade, it wore for seven hours well; after eight and a half, it needed retouching.

I think makeup artist will still enjoy this one as it could double as a mixing shade and highlighter on the skin of a lip look.
This texture of white is hard to work with to get an opaque look general regardless of the base used. I naturally sheer whether it’s in a pressed/loose eyeshadow or gel pot. 😉
I should say it reminds me of MUFE Aqua cream in 4 Snow and Maybelline Color Tattoo 05 Too Cool. Both of which I’ve used over the years and are lip safe. 😉
i agree 😀
I don’t understand this product. Are people honestly supposed to wear this by itself? It looks terrible, and I can’t imagine it’d look much better over another product.
Hi LC!
As mentioned in the review, this shade is great for mixing – though you can certainly wear it alone if desired.
Although OCC does have a number of ready wear products and shades they are a makeup industry brands for artist.

here’s an example of mixing liptars(i think the light colors would look way better on someone lighter than that girl in those pics). you sound familiar, lc. hmmm.
Yeah, not seeing that as a wear alone color. As part of a mixing palette that looks awfully useful, but not all by itself.
You are beautiful, but that is simply dreadful.
Well…your eye makeup looks pretty! 🙂 Did you take any pictures of this mixed with other colors?
Oh, man. Thanks for the laughs! I was just trying to imagine that color by itself on my face and it was not pretty!
I would mix this 🙂
I think on its own, people can be pretty turned off to this. I wonder how it looks mixed with “””normal””” lip colors… It seems like OCC Lip Tars, esp with their recent launch at Sephora, have lost their purpose as a “make your own lip color” type of product. Or rather, its selling point has been changed. You should include some swatches of it mixed with other colors to show how we might use it to alter colors! 🙂
ITA. as a professional in a very stiff shirt industry this kind of artistic stuff is virtually useless for me (If you’re in College and HS I say rock it while you can)
Otherwise some of us that have to stay in a certain Box with our MU would love to see some “recipes” with the OCC lip tars.
I’m lovin’ it, just for how bloody happy you look wearing it 😀 The rest of your makeup looks super lovely BTW. When you mix with other matte lip tars, does the shimmer carry through, Christine?
Yes, the shimmer does 🙂
maybe i need that gold one as ell now.
I think it looks creepy !
These photos make me wonder, does Shaun ever comment on your makeup? Or is he just so used to it all that he doesn’t even notice? I think my SO would tease me forever if I spent my day in shimmery opaque white lip color. 😛
He’s usually working, so he probably misses most of it 🙂
hehe, it’s so cute when bf’s are really interested in their gf’s make-up, like ‘oooh, i like that pink on you’, ‘a white l/s would be cool'(like mine says). i hate guys that are grossed out by all make up stuff(even simple non-crazy stuff).
I LOVE this collection! There are so many mixing possibilities with this one, the gold, and the copper lip tars. The shimmery versions of OCC classics are also amazing. I’m so excited to own these, so I make my own shades and enjoy the ready to wear colors.
This seems like such a cool product and I absolutely love lip tars, but this shade keeps screaming “powdered donut lips!” at me, LOL. If anyone could pull off that look, though, it would be you! The metallic sheen is beautiful.
Am I the only one who feels this really doesn’t look that bad?
Granted, it could only really be used (alone, anyway) for an editorial look….
I was thinking the same thing! It would look great in an editorial look, and Im sure it mixes really nicely with other lip tars. The same goes for the “Tryptych” shade.
Lip tars are meant to be mixed so you can create your own color… I still like this one!
I know this has nothing to do with OCC lip tar but what foundation are you wearing that your skin looks flawless?
Guerlain Parure de Lumiere!
O_O What is thà t? lol 🙂 Looks very tricky to make this work, or even to find a decent use for it. Not for me!
Most people use Lip Tars to custom mix lip colors, this isn’t meant for daily wear.
I wonder how it would look used lightly over a dark/bright lip pencil.
I love this. I think mixing with other colours could be great! I don’t get all the hate! It might be odd on it’s own, but it’s made to be mixed, and that means with this, any colour can be paler AND shimmery!
This is interesting…I’m sure there are many that will find a use for this one but I’ll pass. I do LOVE your eyes though–that bareMinerals palette is calling to me!!
Lol got milk? I´m sorry thats what I thought when I saw this 🙂 extremely hard shade to use and even mixed…I don´t think I would buy something that needs mixing to be able to be used…maybe an extremely pale fair toned person could pull this off? just maybe lol
Aaaaaaah! I like the idea of wearing this alone and mixing it with something! Or using it as shimmery fairy like highlight on my fair skin!
Few products get such a gross reaction from me. Who’s teeth will look white next to that? Nobody’s!
Which other Lip Tars did you mix it with? I am wondering if it significantly lightens darker ones or if it mostly adds shimmer.
Finally a lip color that don’ t suit to Christine!!!!!!LOL. Big hugs from Greece
Well, at least it makes you look really tan! haha
that’s not a good thing tho :))
but it’s cool in a way..for a winter or ice themed photoshoot
That’s not a good thing? Er, why not? As evidenced by the massive popularity of tanning and bronzing products, obviously it is a good thing for many people.
I don’t know, however, if the ability of this product to make you look more tanned outweighs its aesthetic, though.
It’s so bizarre, it’s almost cool! Haha I pun’d. 😛 Christine, I’ve heard Dusty Hunter say Lip Tars make great creme blushes, how would this translate on the skin as say a highlight?
Lightly, it could work – they’re SO SO pigmented that you’d likely need to mix it with something fairly emollient, IMO!
Lmao – I laughed a bit when thinking about testing this particular product for a full day. Kudos to you for wearing white lips for 8 hours!! The things you do for us 🙂 xo
Agreed! You must really love us. <3
I don’t see it as anything but a base to make lipstick brighter – and perhaps icy? No one is going to step out looking like that, so it would do what NYX eye base does if you ask me.
I get the feeling that used lightly this would make a great highlighter.
terrifying!
wow i don’t think this would look good on anyone!
I saw someone use this patted lightly on lipstick. It looked really nice!
This is a color that is better used to mix with other colors to make them lighter and bc most lip tars have more of a matte finish to them
I think it’s a fantastic shade. No, not to wear alone… but to lighten a shade and add shimmer. I have already ordered one and I can’t wait for it to arrive. I think a bit of ice mixed with trollop will make the perfect shimmery coral pink for spring.
