Wet ‘n’ Wild Dutchess Fergie Nail Lacquer
Whoa! Ease Up on the Brush!
Wet ‘n’ Wild Dutchess Fergie Nail Lacquer ($3.49 for 0.42 fl. oz.) consists of small, medium blue glitter and larger, circular violet purple glitter suspended in a clear base. Nails Inc. Connaught Square is extremely similar, just denser. Zoya Twila has some similarity in how textured it looks on, but it has horizontal bar glitter and is all blue.
It’s semi-opaque after two coats; you can see the underlying nail, but it’s not just a sheer coat of glitter. This polish was extremely thick–almost goopy–that I don’t think three or coats would be do-able. It took a long time just for two coats to dry. If left without a top coat, it dries to a slightly flat finish. The brush is huge; it’s wider and longer than Dior’s, which is fairly wide from my experience across polish brushes. It was larger than the width of my pinky nail! The thicker consistency, paired with the large brush, made it extremely easy to get a big glob of polish on the nail.
You know how I’ve mentioned that very few polishes chip on me (and I can’t really recollect anything in particular)? This one started to peel on me on the fourth day, almost half of the polish on one nail lifted off. By the seventh day, there was peeling/lifted color on all four other nails. It happened on two nails that I did not use a base/top coat on, and on three nails that I had a base/top coat on.
P.S. — It is, in fact, spelled Dutchess; that was not a mistake on my part, as it ties to Fergie’s The Dutchess album.

O rly? But such a bummer bout the polish. It looks so pretty in the bottle!
Fixed, sorry!
I’m neither a fan of glitter polishes, nor blue polishes, but *this* one is absolutely stunning! Go figure; I may still pick this one up at this pricepoint, though. Nothing lasts on my nails without a base-/top-coat anyway, and I change my polish after a couple of days, as I bore easily, so this may suit my needs. Again, this is a pricepoint I won’t mind taking a chance on.
it’s burple, that’s why ;0)
I was just about to post the same thing! I’ve not really into glitter polishes either, but this one I’m actually considering now. It’s so weird, because it has everything I DON’T like in a nail polish; sheerness, somewhat large glitter particles and even larger chunks of glitter. And I still think it’s so gorgeous that I can’t stop looking at it.
I have this weird thing where I like to match my polish to my eye makeup, and this would work so well with MAC Starless Night and/or UD Frigid. I would *definitely* layer over black, though.
Hi Christine. You may want to change the Where to Buy 🙂
I picked these up at Walgreen’s. I bought every single glitter polish and I skipped 2 or 3 of the flat colour polishes. I paid $3.49 plus tax. Dollar General had these a few months ago for $3 plus tax. I did notice my Wam-Lart has them now but a limited amount and not the entire collection. I think they were priced at $3.39 because I thought to myself, these are a bit cheaper than the ones I bought at Walgreen’s. I have not tested any of them yet. I am thinking the wear is not the best. I actually bought the glitters to Franken them.
LOL @ your peeling polish story! If this peels in four days on you then it probably starts peeling by the next day for me. 😛
Too bad the quality is average, the polish looked cute in the bottle!
Maybe this would work better as a glitter coat on top of a solid polish ? It’s really fab and gives the franken polish look without scrambling to grab the limited editions. I like! At this price point, you can take the gamble 🙂
I love how your glossover rhymes! I haven’t tried this color but did try a cream and shimmer, they seemed to be decent.
Btw, Christine, the love it or leave it buttons are sending me to drugstore.com
Thanks for letting me know – fixed!
Good thing it lifted on its own, that glitter looks like it’s a b to remove if you had to use a cotton ball.
Yeech, and it’s ‘whole sheet of polish peeling off’ that’s basically killed nail polish for me. Nothing stays on my nails and as I do most of the household cooking I don’t want polish flakes getting in food… Ew
“Hey, there’s a prize lurking about in dinner tonight… whoever finds it, wins!”
Off topic, but my aunt once lost a glue-on nail in a turkey carcass while slicing meat for turkey sandwiches!
Well, at least it wasn’t in the sandwich 😉
Grabbed this at Walgreens months ago and haven’t even tried it yet. At least now I know to definitely layer it over something solid!
Pretty color, but what a pain. I don’t care what the price point is – if it peels on you, what chances do those of us who -do- have to worry about chipping polish have to have?
And I laughed at your note about the misspelled name. Good know the error is Fergie’s and not Wet ‘n Wild’s!
When I saved the files, I labeled them as “duchess,” and then found out that was quite wrong. I was like, “Wait… I swear that’s how you spell it!”
You wonder if it was changed to Dutchess because marketing people thought we were too stupid to spell it properly…
from Wikipedia:
The 2006 title of R&B/Hip Hop singer Stacy “Fergie” Ferguson’s debut album, The Dutchess (dutchess is a Middle English spelling of duchess) was a reference to the fact that the two are associated with the same surname.
I immediately thought this was a play on “Dutches” as in Dutch Masters cigars, and very intentional.
I have this polish, I added a couple drops of thinner to it and that fixed most of the problems I had applying it, since this is a glitter I only use it for layering anyway and didn’t have problems with it lifting when it was over another polish but I’ve never tried it by itself.
Such a pretty color but there is nothing i hate more than a thick, goopy formula!
I had the same gloopy problem with a polish from Nicole by OPI in “One Less Lonely Glitter” (From the Justin Beiber collection). It did go on opaque, but it was so hard to apply! and it chipped super easily without even a days wear! I usually tend to buy base coats the same colour as my glitter polish, so I don’t have to apply so many chunky coats.
I just picked up that one and Studio Mama (never would have purchased but they were on clearance ) what HORRIFIC quality. One the other hand I have had crazy success with other Fergie polishes. Finally got my first Chanel polish. Don’t think I’ll ever splurge like that again, but I don’t regret it!
What a bummer – I got the “Make Them Boys Go Loco” shade from Rite Aid, and although I don’t usually go for glitters, I found the shade very easy to work with. I guess I will keep in mind there is some inconsistency in this line in case I want to try any of the other shades.
Now I’m worried about the rest of the line, because I picked up three glitter/shimmer polishes in it for my best friend. (She asked for red glitter, so I found two and then a multicolor.) Eep. Well, at least it was cheap…
I have 9 other shades from this line and they’ve been a pleasure- sounds like this color was a fluke
I think this might be the Wen ‘n’ Wild coloricon Believe Me, It’s Real re-promoted. They look identical to me.
This is probably something I’d like layering over an opaque polish. I don’t love the look of sheer glitters with no polish underneath.
Cute! I really like the Fergie polishes!
I have been looking for a glitter polish like this for Halloween. It’s a shame that this requires a topcoat in order to stay put.
It needs a base color. That brush is a big old mess for sure!
Too bad this is a mess; W n W polishes have had some real hits. Last years Holiday glitter polish was fantastic, as was the Chrome color I’ve been wearing the last few weeks. Many glitters do best with a coat of color first but gloppy ness will not do!
completely with you christine! this caught my eye at the drugstore and i bought it on a whim because i’m such a sucker for glitter polishes…but it performed horribly! not only was the brush HUGE, but it dried down to the weirdest finish! not quite matte so it looked cool…it just looked ugly 🙁 and your pictures actually make it look decent. very sad because it looked like it could have been fabulous!
It also smells HORRIBLE!!!! I got a headache from it!
I bought 2 of these Fergie polishes when they first came out in glowstick and fergalicious…I paid a little under 4 bucks for them. But when I got them home and tried them out I realized they were the EXACT same color of 2 of my spoiled polishes…WHICH ARE ALSO MADE BY WET AND WILD! So basically they put the same exact colors in a different bottle that u actually get LESS (Fergie’s are .42 while spoiled are .5oz) slapped fergie’s name on it and charged us 1.50 EXTRA for it! I’m someone who has like 50 or more polishes I have lots of similar colors but this really pissed me off! I spend (we all do) way to much money on there makeup prodcuts willingly without them having to trick me!
