Yeah, I really love those puffy compacts, but the quality on MAC’s releases has been so terrible lately that I won’t be buying anything unless I can see it swatched and know it’s high-quality in advance. If that means things are sold out before I get a chance at them, oh well.

I feel the same. I’m actually *more* apprehensive of anything from any of the MAC Holiday collections. LE collections are so hit or miss throughout the year, but the fact so many are coming out at the same time…

Abbey Avatar

I always cringe when I see those duos because they have a history of being such poor quality. But since it seems that they’re permanent colors, maybe (fingers crossed) they’ll be lovely!

karen gonzalez Avatar

While the packaging is pretty, it’s very unpractical and inconvenient. It’s definitely a deterrent for me, and I think I’ll skip out on this collection.

My wish list.

Fabulousness / Warm Eyes ($39.50 U.S. / $47.50 CDN)
Fabulousness / Neutral Eyes ($39.50 U.S. / $47.50 CDN)
Hanging Travel Bag ($40.00 U.S. / $48.00 CDN)
Divine Desire / Paramour Pink ($70.00 U.S. / $85.00 CDN)
Divine Desire / Quite Coral ($70.00 U.S. / $85.00 CDN)

Expensive as heck though so I’ll probably have to remove some things.

The Canadian total would be $313 plus my 13% sales tax come to a grand total of $353.69. 🙁 OUCH.

I’ve been wonder why I haven’t been getting MAC Holiday Collection the past 2 years abd that price total Should really be going into my IMATS Toronto cash next month. lol

I got my eye on the Divine Desire Quite Coral set! Hope you get around to reviewing them first. I really don’t quite get why MAC doesn’t just give you the products in advance– you do send them a heck of a lot of business. At the very least, they oughta let you BUY them ahead. Not cool, MAC, not cool.

GlowMyWay Avatar

Oooh, those look so tempting! I hope the eyeshadow palette shades are up to the same quality as they are in the permanent collection. I’m still gobsmacked at your review that mentioned how Restrospeckt is never quite the same twice, LOL.

Mitzi Avatar

I love the packaging so much!!! It’s so cute…I’m so tempted to want them all but I know that’s not going to happen….This is the cutest Holiday collection from MAC….

Leticia Avatar

I was anxious to know what MAC’s 2012 Holiday Collection would be like and at a glance, I’m so excited! These will make great gifts (errr, though I admit maybe they’ll be from me to me!)! I really hope the products of this collection are high quality, because as cute as the packaging is, especially the eyeshadow sets, I will not purchase anything unless I’m convinced the makeup is worth the splurge.

Lulle Avatar

I love the packaging, so cute!
The Fabulousness neutral eye kit looks very nice, but I won’t buy anything until I see swatches and read reviews – the quality of Mac LE shadows has been so poor lately that I won’t take the risk!
I also like the Divine Desire kits but they seem excessively expensive to me…

Ok. Im really liking the compact with the secret brush compartment but….. can you imagine how dirty the outside of the case will get? Yuck!

MichelleChefNYC Avatar

This is one of the best holiday collections I have ever seen from mac in terms of packaging and the complete sets with brushes and lip/cheek products are well integrated and pretty… but I am so leery of the quality that MAC has been producing lately, especially with palettes and seasonal collections… I think that I will be surprised if I end up buying anything… 🙁

Alexa K Avatar

Wow the packaging looks niceee~ I’m really tempted to get the violet/lavender eyeshadows set, hope the quality is good! looking forward to your review before my splurge!

Vinyl leopard print clutches in pastel colors.

Even typing it out sounded cheap to me. I don’t hate MAC like some posters here, but even I’m cringing at this leopard print travesty.

Sara Avatar

I was able to see this collection at an event this week and I got the Divine Desire / Paramour Pink kit. LOVE IT! You can use the bag as a makeup bag or a small clutch, so cute! The whole collection is fabulous! It’s going to sell out quick!!

Mietta Avatar

Be careful with the duofibre brush set – I bought that same brush set from the collection last year and the brushes especially the largest one sheds like mad. The others are ok but I haven’t used them as much.

Sandra JT Avatar

Good to know. In that case, I won’t bother wasting my money. For the prices MAC charges, there’s absolutely no excuse for them to be making such crappy products. Thanks for the warning 🙂

I like the packaging concept, but the problem I have with the holiday collections by MAC is that the extra packaging is usually made in China, and it smells terribly like plastic (and not very healthy, given that you put the contents on your skin). From Tartan Tale, the e/s palettes even had the plasticky smell in the eyeshadows inside (and I wonder what glue they used for the fabric to be glued on top); and the compact smelled like plastic through two (!) plastic bags I put it in for not to fog up the rest of my Make Up. Eventually I had to bring it to B2M; even depotting the e/s did not remove the smell from them. Huge waste of money.
Last year I had a set with the powder in the lower compact and the e/s in the quad on top, same mega-chemical smell, I returned it unused; I did not want to lose money again.
I hope that this year it won’t be so, but I`m not optimistic.

Of course I don’t know if I had a bad batch, but seeing that it was so two years in a row (and for example with both TT-palettes), it seems it was not a random issue.

I HAVE TO HAVE THE SINFULLY CHIC SET!!! the packaging is to die for!!! not to mention your getting your money back on this kit! great for travel with a little back compartment for brush and mascara. i was attracted by i think all limited edition products and nearly full size products! CAN’T WAIT!!! again ADORABLE packaging. i think mac outdid themselves with the delicious kits! YUM!
What your getting:
lipglass 15$
lipstick 15$
blush 21$
brush 20$ ??
eyeliner 20$??
if im correct 91 dollars of makeup great!
Oh and temptalia is this set going to be available at Nordstrom?? and amazing pics:)

Yeah up! the packaging is cute, but it seems to me that for the last couple of years MAC has become too cheap. The latest eye shadow kits have been very small and a bit pricy for such small quantity. I was a big fan of MAC and I used to get all the eye shadow kits every year, but I stopped, I was discourage with the 2011 holiday kit, and now with the 2012 I’m completely disappointed, the quantity is too small and the choices are less. This is no special for the consumer, is just a holiday profit for them. If you really like MAC? might as well save and get the full eye shadow that is double or triple the quantity then their SPECIAL sets. Be smart do the math and check their quantities on their so called special.

PLEASE do a review on the brush sets!! I am SOOOOO tempted by ’em, but I hear so many bad things about the quality of MAC’s travel brushes.. Really interested in what you think about ’em!!

Keep up the good work; we all really appreciate it *=)

Quick question- (Love your website by the way!) for the smokey eyes holiday eye set you listed “Spellcaster” as the deep purple shade. However, online it says “Vintage Allure” for that same shade? Any idea if it is indeed Spellcaster from the Evil Eye’s Quad released awhile ago. If not, how similar is it? Thanks! 🙂
