Tom Ford Silver Smoke Nail Lacquer Review, Photos, Swatches
Tom Ford Silver Smoke Nail Lacquer
Tom Ford Silver Smoke Nail Lacquer ($30.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is a taupe-pewter with a metallic finish. This was a really hard color to describe; it’s golden, smoky, pewter, and kind of taupe-ish. Chanel Delight is more copper. China Glaze Swing Baby is less warm-toned. Urban Decay Superfreak is more golden. MAC Soiree has more copper shimmer. Dior Timeless Gold is more pewter. China Glaze Jingle Bells is very gold in comparison. Chanel Quartz is grayer, almost green-tinted. Zoya Jules is lighter and less warm-toned.
The formula is thin without being watery, and it applies fairly evenly and easily. It’s not quite opaque after two coats, as there is a hint of visible nail line. Three coats would yield opaque color, and with the thinness of the formula, you could get away with three without trouble. There are very fine brush strokes if you look close enough, but the finish is so shiny that you almost miss them. I tested this particular shade (along with Burnt Topaz) to test out the wear, since I wasn’t familiar with Tom Ford’s metallic finish, and it wore for seven days with minor tip wear but no chipping. I do warn that I don’t generally experience chipping no matter the brand or whether I use a top coat/base coat.

Also looks like CHANEL Quartz. $30… Blegh.
I sprang for this one and 3 coats appear to be charm for me. This appears silver/gold on me which I really like since I do have yellow undertones and I do not always like to emphasize it. Some gold polishes make my skin look positively jaundiced. This doesn’t.
This is such a pretty shade! I am a big fan of metallic shades that straddle the silver-gold line.
I love Tom Ford cosmetics and the packaging….very luxurious looking….but way too expensive….He has to earn his way in the mark like Sisley to get these ridiculous prices.
This reminds me a LOT of a Loreal polish I just picked it up, called Because You’re Worth It (super lame name). It’s completely opague in two coats and I think the formula is great… the consistency is easy to work with, no streaks, dries quickly. And it’s only 5 bucks 😀
Orly Nite Owl looks to be similar.
There is an old Essie color called “Sugarcane” that is the perfect mix of golden brown, taupe and a dash of a warm peachy, pink. Two coats give a medium depth color, and I find it matches my skintone and my wardrobe all year round. Unfortunately, is has been discontinued and I only have half a bottle left. So I am obviously interested in seeing swatches of any colors in this family so I can rapidly find a replacement. Any recommendations would be great. I have red hair, green/gold hazel eyes and fair skin. I’m new to this site but I’ll try to follow the posts to see some of the swatches you have posted.
O hell naw, 30 bucks for a slight shear shimmery gold nail polish?! Who the heck do he think we are? Donald trump? Cause i dont have that kind of money to spend on nail polish. The highest priced nail polish i ever bought was ozotic and layla and that was up there but this just beats their prices. They make ozotic and layla look cheap and more affordable, anyways, i dont think this polish is woth it. Girls save your money and find yourself WAYY cheaper dupe ( plenty of golds out there..just gotta keep looking) and you will find it. I havent seen much of Tom Ford products before and i think i know why now..he just lost me as a customer and im not even a customer yet!
Sally Hansen extreme wear “Time to Shine” looks like it might have a better formula than this one…two dollars.
gorgeous
I always appreciate your full disclosure, Christina.
mr. ford irks me as a personality/celebrity and disproportionately expensive nail polish can just stay on the shelves… I’m a sucker for any taupe-y metallic pewters, but i was not born yesterday.
This kind of reminds me of Essie’s Steel-ing the Scene
