Marc Jacobs Fantascene Eye-Conic Eyeshadow Palette Review, Photos, Swatches
Fantascene
Marc Jacobs Beauty Fantascene Eye-Conic Multi-Finish Eyeshadow Palette ($49.00 for 0.21 oz.) is a new, limited edition palette filled with peach, coral, copper, and brown. I liked it, but I didn’t love it; the copper shade (Meet Ya) is much thicker in texture than the other shades, which I found made it harder to layer and blend into other shades, while the pink-coral (She Said) did not work well dry (or over primer–it had to be used wet).

Flesh
Flesh is a soft beige with warm, peachy undertones and a matte finish. It was richly pigmented and had a smooth, velvety texture that was very finely-milled without being powdery or thin, so the eyeshadow went on nicely on bare skin and lasted for eight hours on me.

Covets
Covets is a soft taupe with warm, brown undertones and a matte finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation with a soft, lightly powdery eyeshadow that was easy to blend out on my skin. I did find that it turned the deeper brown shade in the palette a little grayer when used with it. It wore well for seven and a half hours on me before fading noticeably.

Fantasy
Fantasy is a muted, medium-dark coral with warm, pink undertones and a matte finish. The color payoff was fantastic, while the eyeshadow had a soft, lightly dusty texture that was easy to apply and blend out on my lid, even without primer, as the color adhered evenly. It stayed on nicely for eight hours before fading a bit.

She Said
She Said is a medium, pinky-coral with warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. The texture was drier and denser, which made it harder to get good pigmentation out of it without using fingertips (medium coverage) or a dampened brush (mostly opaque coverage). Applied dry, it had more fallout and only lasted for six hours on me. Applied damp, it didn’t have fallout and lasted for eight hours on me.

Meet Ya
Meet Ya is a rich, medium copper with warm, orange undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. The eyeshadow was richly pigmented, but the texture was thicker and denser with chunkier sparkle that it was hard to blend it out with the more satin and matte shades in the palette. I had more luck using it with a dampened brush, as that helped to smooth and thin out this shade and made it more compatible to layer with the others in this palette. It wore well for eight hours on me but had a touch of fallout.

For More
For More is a medium-dark, reddish-brown with subtle, warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had good color payoff, though it wasn’t opaque in a single layer, that built up to full coverage two passes. The texture was soft, a little dusty in the pan, but it applied evenly and blended out without trouble. It lasted for eight hours on me.

On the Dance Floor
On the Dance Floor is a brighter, medium coral-orange with an iridescent pink sheen. The pigmentation was nearly opaque in a single layer, but the texture was slightly drier and firmer. The eyeshadow blended out without too much effort, though, and wore well for eight hours before fading on me.

Given my less than happy experience with the Edgitorial palette and the fact that the colour in this one look like they’ve been assembled to make me look like I have pink-eye, and this is a palette I’ll be skipping with ease.
eeep – “colours in this one”
I thought I was the only one to dislike this color combination! It seems weirdly… fleshy, like inside-one’s-skin fleshy. I’m really not sure which skin tone it could possibly flatter.
Pretty palette! This looks similar to UD Naked 3 but I did a palette vs. palette dupe comparison and only one shared was a dupe. I have yet to take the plunge for any Marc Jacobs cosmetics but I’ve always been interested in the Eyeconic palettes (color combinations and how they review).
I’d say this is a lighter, pinker take on it – where Naked Heat gets sultry and smoky very easily, this one would be lighter overall.
I’m so happy that I narrowed it down to the Smashbox x Vlada Petal Metal Palette instead. There seems to have been a virtual explosion of copper/rose-gold/coral eyeshadow palettes this month: this one, Petal Metal and UD Beached. Fantascene just doesn’t have the same near flawlessness of the latter two mentioned.
Why is it, that my fave shade in the palette always rates the lowest? Lol!! Glad this was a B+. I bought it before any reviews
If only She Said had been good, this would have been a nice basic warm palette. The color story is very pretty.
Yep.
Returning mine tomorrow.
I really thought I wanted this, but I’ll skip it. I have so many eye shadows similar to these, I don’t need it, and for once I’ll be wise and not buy everything I want.
I’m disappointed on the rating because the colors are exactly what I’m looking for. For the cost I’d want better performance, though.
I agree Laura ? Especially when the shade I thought was the most beautiful is rated the lowest ?. Best to you ☺️ Hope Christine finds us the perfect palette with at least an A- or A rating ?
I don’t really like it at all. I find the matte shades far too muted, so that they would turn too beigy and the sparkly shades seem to be average. I liked the Cover Shot Petal Metal palette so much better.
Very blah.
It’s 2018. When are brands going to stop naming creamy, light tan looking colors “flesh”?
I am soooo torn with this.
I love it, all the colours (well maybe not Meet Ya), and I have dupes for three of the seven.
I’m torn because carrying three palettes around with, me rather than one, seems like a hassle. I’m going to swatch it in store today and will decide one way or another.
Sigh.
I recently bought this because I love the look but I honestly think I’m going to return it. It’s okay, but for the $64 I spent on this palette it’s not worth it. I can create similar looks with my colourpop pressed powder singles.
Why did it have to be limited edition?? This is my perfect palette, I love all the shades for different reasons, but it’s just so good I might be getting a backup
