I do it all the time and I thought I was the only one who did it … until last year at a local upsale boutique when a very nice SA tried a few combos on me. I started collecting Bond No. 9 a few years ago and I buy Bond No. 9 from this boutique because a few times a year they have a ‘no-tax’ deal (our tax is 8.375%). Tax on a few hundred dollars adds up quickly. The SA gave me some good combos to play around with!

I have a Chloé (not Kardashian) perfume that smells a bit ‘alcohol-y’ on me. I always pair it with something fruity, usually Ed Hardy’s Hearts & Daggers.

Ladies and Gents: IF you have a fragrance you are not happy with, play around with what you have. You may be surprised what you come up with. Also for those on a budget or for those who don’t buy fragrance a whole lot, if you layer you can come up with a few extra combos. Don’t forget you can pair lotions/creams, body sprays and fragrances too 🙂

What are your current go-to day fragrances? I’ve saved up money to just get one but I really don’t know what I want to get… so many… where to start…

Sure! I have a couple of really sweet scents that I like to layer with something spicy or incensy. The first scent tends to lighten up the latter.

Of course, I only end up doing that with scents where one or two notes end up being really prominant on me–you don’t want too many conflicting smells!

Never! xD I can’t imagine doing that. Not only could the smell be potentially foul, it would be overpoweringly potent, which isn’t something I would want to smell.

Have you tried Jo Malone fragrances? The whole collection smells AMAZING! They are meant for layering, and their website gives you many “combining” suggestions. The sales people at Jo Malone counters are very helpful, too! I am a Jo Malone addict, if you can’t already tell 😉

I tried once with Fresh’s Hesperides and their Strawberry Flower but it was too hard to tell if they complimented each other well that I haven’t since

Hmm nope. I’m pretty old-school when it comes to fragrances. I live by the old rule that you shouldn’t mix/layer anything, and nor should you rub it between your wrists. With that said however, I’d be thrilled to find out what two fragrances work well together!

I like to wear the Sephora Hello Kitty EDP over Tom Ford’s Moss Breches. I know, it feels like some kind of sacrilege, but honestly I love what it turns into.

I think if deodorant + body lotion + perfume counts as layering I do and I tend to choose things from the same ‘family’ like al citrics, all florals. =)

Yes, I have. I’ve worn Marc Jacobs Cranberry Splash with TokyoMilk’s Pink Grapefruit & Orange Blossom. Both of them are fairly subtle, fruity scents that smell very pleasant together.

I sometimes spray a little bit of a coconut eau de toilette from yves rocher (very subtle) with my Eternity, mostly during the summer, just to give it a “summer feeling”, as this is the only perfume I wear.

My favorite fragrances to layer right now are Victoria’s Secret Incredible lotion and sprays, Victor Rudolph Flowerbomb and finally, Bvlgari Jasmine Nior. They all compliment eachother well!

Oh yeah. I’m a perfume junkie. Sometimes a scent just needs a little something extra. I have a woodsmoke scent that I’ll layer with other perfumes just to give them more dimension.

When I get samples of men’s fragrances at Sephora, etc. I sometimes use them with my own perfumes, which gives me a confusing smell that I like.

I also have a set of D&G perfumes that are designed to be layered, but I’ve given away 3 of 5, so it’s not too exciting anymore haha.

For warmer fragrances, I always seem to layer over my staple: Auric Blends Mystik. It’s a cheapy that I love. Then come the other fragrances like Donna Karan’s Black Cashmere or Chaos, Diptiqye Tam Dao. In the summer, it’s straight to the brighter, greener frangances like The Gap’s Grass (now out of production) and Bobbi Brown’s Bobbi for starters.

Yes. Panthere de Cartier Eau de Parfum, first; then Perry Ellis for Women eau de parfum on top. Love the combination.
Started doing this when I had a perfume that was too heavy to wear during the day. Searched for something in the same family, but not as strong. Finally found one that made a perfect combination for day or night. Plus it was my own scent.
