What are your weaknesses when it comes to highlighters?
I kind of dig highlighters of all types–barely-there to glitter–but I tend to like ones that have some color to them!

Unique colors
I like the NYX Duo Chromatic Chromation Highlighters esp twilight tint and snow rose
Or Becca Light Chaser Highlighter in Topaz Chases Gilt. It’s a gold but has a hint of green
I like the barely there with a slight color type. BECCA Opal, Prosecco Pop & Vanilla Quartz are the 3 I use in rotation.
Glossy finish! I’m always on a hunt for that perfectly wet sheen. It’s kind of hard to find a highlighter that doesn’t have any kind of shiny particles in it. I might be the only person in the world who isn’t in love with Becca highlighters for that reason. While they’re pretty, I want something without sparkles. Ofra’s formula is my current holy grail.
I’m not sure if I’m making myself clear but Mariah Leonard explains this in her video: https://youtu.be/DMJBo0KE-tM
Powder formula is a must. I really have a weakness for highly metallic but glitter free highlighters in the rose gold, copper, or pink color range. And palettes, in general!
Probably brand and packaging. I have plenty as it is. I only pay attention if it’s a brand I buy from. I like subtle to middle of the road sheen, no glitter/sparkles/chunks and only peach or golden tones.
It’s probably easiest for me to mention specific highlighters that sum up perfection for me: Dior Glowing Gardens Pink (LE), UD Aura and Becca Pearl. I love the glowing finish on all 3 and their cool tones (well, Pearl is neutral, I guess, but it’s not peachy/warm) are what suits my skin tone best.
Ugh, pink or green shades really peak my interest if we’re honest. xD
I like the glow from within natural look and pink and peach match me best. I like champagne also but I’m tired of gold and bronze.
I like silver and gold together and self colored shimmer but sick of the gold with pink shift or duochromes.
I prefer powder and my favs are Mac soft and gentle, EL Modern Mercury and Cover fx Blossom.
Can it be seen from Mars? I’m in! Yeah, I go for the glow factor. Not into glittery cheeks really, though, even while still loving last year’s ABH Nicole Guerriero Palette. I do like some rather unnatural shades, too. As in, KVD Alchemist Emerald and Saphyre. Those just work with my olive undertoned, medium golden complexion!
What are my weaknesses? Uh, I have all of them! Weaknesses and highlighters, LOL.
I prefer a powder formula but with some creaminess and good blendability, not too much glitter, more unique shades (or with interesting undertones) and not flimsy packaging.
Best I’ve experienced is Afterglow by Edward Bess, which is horrendously expensive for such a tiny amount and I tell myself I have elebenty squillion highlighters and I definitely DON’T need to replace that particular one when it runs out but that might be a lie. I just got the Jeffree Star 24K palette (and the Sigma Chroma Glow is on it way to me as well) three days ago and I haven’t even touched it yet.
My name is Chris and I am an addict. 😉
Omg, that Sigma Chroma is sooo beautiful! I want it! I need it lol.
Strong, shimmery highlighters, white highlighters, unusual colors, duochromes, metallics.
I prefer a sheeny/glossy/luminous texture to a metallic or glittery one, and I typically like liquid or cream highlights. My favorites are CP Lunch Money, Becca Pearl (liquid), and the Elf gloss stick type think whose name I can’t remember. I’m also very interested in more unusual colors (I have KVD Alchemist, ABH Moonchild, and the new Wet n’ Wild highlighter quad, if that tells you anything). I need to get out of the rut I’ve sort of been in with my cheek products. I’m wayyyy more experimental with eye makeup. I can’t even remember the last time I used a powder cheek product, and I have too many to be like that.
Fortunately I don’t have any weakness when it comes to highlighters – I find that they create pores I don’t have and make me look to sparkly – I just don’t like the finish. Now when it comes to lipsticks and eye shadow palettes, that’s a different matter.
I only apply highlighter at my high points so it doesn’t emphasize texture or add to oiliness etc. A little on the high point of my cheekbone and a little above the brow just lifts the face. Bc I use so little, I really shouldn’t buy any more highlighter 🙂
Really natural dewy sheen. Close to my natural skin tone. Pale golden, but a pale cool toned is nice too, just not too silvery cuz I can’t rock the robot tin look.. lol
Pale beigey highlighters are nice too. They can easily veer on highlighting blush, which is fine too but different category at that point.
I like shades like white, pale pink, lavender, and champagne! I love the look of bronze and rose gold highlights but only wear them in the summer. I’m fine with a subtler glow or a high shine finish, it just depends on the occasion. I like a medium opacity to the color so you can still see it but it won’t look like a stripe. I’m not a fan of glitter but if it’s for a party look that’s cool!
Oh, and for formula, usually powders. If I do wear a cream, I like it to look more hydrating and “wet” than shimmery. I use liquids to sheet out foundations and so I like something champagne-y near my skin tone.
Definitely pale pink highlighters (like LM devotion and Dior 002). They make me swoon. I’m been lusting after pink highlighters all these years and I own probably more than I ever should.
Me too! Pink highlighters are my favorite makeup product. I want to cover my face in them lol. What are your favorites? I have found a few nice pink liquid highlighters from Wet & Wild & Hard Candy. I think the pink shade “Opal” in the KVD Alchemist palette is probably my fave. Bella Rose from J-Cat is a beautiful icy pink. I have a great cream stick from MUR. Nyx Snow Rose is nice too. I am sure I’m missing a few. I have too many lol, & I want more! I really want the KVD AfterShock palette, but not sure if it is too glittery for me. The Huda Winter palette is stunning, but I have been trying to talk myself out of spending that much.
Oh yeah, I forgot the beautiful BH Cosmetics Blacklight palette. All the shades are beautiful, but the pink & purple in it are sooo good!
I enjoy those that are more unusual in color—warm gold is very common, cool gold (e.g. ColourPop’s Stole the Show) is less so—although I wouldn’t say that the “common weird” options of pink/blue/lilac iridescent/duochrome shades are a “weakness,” because I already have all I need and don’t want any more, ha ha. I tend to prefer a smoother finish with few distinct particles of shimmer, and a moderate, buildable/blendable sheen (so I can have super-shiny cheeks and eyes, and a more subtly glow elsewhere). Most importantly, they can’t be too dark, or else they’re doing the opposite of their job!! 😛
I really like a soft, subtle sheen for day — something to counteract harsh office lights. In that category falls LM Matte Highlighter (not really matte) and Becca Opal (poured). If I don’t have to keep my makeup too professional, I love Dior highlighters and EL Modern Mercury or Becca pressed highlighters.
Pink & purple! I have so many it is ridiculous, & I want mooooorrrreeee!!! I Want ALL the highlighters! ✨
It’s a weakness in have for them, so pretty in the pan rather than on me lol…I have Laura Gellar Gilded Honey, Bobbi Brown Pink Glow&2 shimmer bricks but tend to reach for the IT cosmetics one. Its the most natural glow which I like.
Highlighter IS my weakness. I love almost everything except glitter, bronze shades (I’m pale), or very cool colors. A pearly look, a strong sheen, and pale-friendly shades get my attention. I love liquid highlighters; my favorite is Rouge Bunny Rouge Sea of Tranquility (light pink). I love duochrome shifts and can’t stop staring at them, but I’m too pale to wear most of them except lightly as blush toppers. I’m also drawn to natural-looking highlighter for no-makeup-makeup days (the dewy model look) but my favorites tend not to dry completely (RMS, I’m looking at you) and my hair gets stuck to it. I’m still drawn to them and hope to find one that dries and still looks dewy.
Right now I’m attracted to highlighters that are pinkier… anything that makes my face looks wet but doesn’t emphasize texture or dryness is what I’m ultimately attracted to.
All it has to have is highlighter in the name! 🙂
