I no longer buy MAC since they became animal-testers, but if I did, I’d probably get the Sunset quad and the Mittai Pink and possibly Oxblood lipsticks.
That’s it.
They didnβt βbecomeβ animal testers. The country of CHINA (where they do sell their products) tests ALL products imported into that country on animals. It is the country of China doing this, not MAC.
I disagree with that sentiment. MAC made a conscious business decision to sell within China, unlike the brands that refuse to do so because they stand against animal testing. I wouldn’t be so quick to absolve MAC of all the blame.
Yep, they put access to the Chinese market over animal welfare. It’s irrelevant whether they conduct the testing themselves or hire a third party to do it, which the standard operating procedure for any company wishing to sell in China.
MAC is owned by EstΓ©e Lauder Corporation. MAC doesnβt make any decisions about where it is sold.
This article explains the situation well:
http://ethicalelephant.com/cosmetics-sold-in-china/
Exactly!
While it is true that MAC itself is not doing animal-testing themselves, by marketing their products in China, where such testing is required by law, they essentially signed up for it.
I prefer to to direct my business elsewhere; there are plenty of great cruelty-free options out there.
I do like MAC products, or did when I was buying them.
Hooray for dupes!
WORKING TOWARD A CRUELTY-FREE WORLD
MΒ·AΒ·C does not test on animals. We do not own any animal testing facilities and we never ask others to test on animals for us. While some governments conduct animal testing to prove safety before they will allow us to sell our products, MΒ·AΒ·C has never tested on animals and we continue to be a leader in the movement to end animal testing globally. To this end, we are proud to partner with IIVS (INSTITUTE FOR IN VITRO SCIENCES) to expand the use and acceptance of non-animal testing methods worldwide.
Better animals than me.
Where I live, dogs are culinary delicacies. There’s a cause for ya.
(Bet dogs would prefer to test Ruby Woo)
While I think this is an interesting collab, and I love the packaging… as someone with the same skin tone as Padma, I don’t see a lot of these colors being flattering on me? For example, that brown blush wouldn’t even show up on me, and I can imagine some of the lighter lipsticks looking way too frosty to pull off as nude MLBB. Maybe I’m wrong, but I’m not nearly excited by this as I thought I would be.
I agree. I’m extremely pale and I thought as I scrolled through how literally everything in this line would suit my skin colour and tone.
Exactly. One of the things I loved about the Becca x Teigen collab is all the colors in the palette would actually be flattering on Teigen (and seemed to reflect colors she normally wore) so it came across as a genuine partnership vs. her celebrity status being leveraged.
One thing Iβve noticed with Mac is their PR shots are not necessarily true to life. Iβd wait for the swatches, I learned the hard way when I purchased one of the βx9β palettes and promptly returned to Macyβs when it arrived. It looked nothing like the photos.
What a pretty collection. I like the colours of the quads and the design on packaging.
Usually I don’t even know who these collaborators are, but I <3 Padma! Finally, MAC has reached the coveted cooking reality show audience demographic! The purple and green quad looks interesting, I hope it swatches well.
Ahahahaha! Just the thought of a Chopped collab is going to make me smile all day. Alex, my sardonic, raven haired goddess! You deserve your own eyeshadow palette! Zakarian would totally have one of their minimalist dude-launches. With, like, skincare and a lip balm.
He would throw in a good hand cream and Scott would totally have a hair care collaboration. Lol ?
Yes! And AarΓ³n has been glowing lately (Seriously I couldn’t stop noticing how radiant his skin looked). Maybe he could get in on the face lotion and AHA with Geoffrey.
Hah!! I would buy a Chopped collection a heartbeat! They could demo a concealer on Aaron’s hand tats. Kohl eyeliner for Santos. Something for Scott with the shade name “No Red Onions”.
This is just beautiful. I love the dual ended liners too. Will be looking for your dupes on this I suspect.
The only things I like are the duel ended liners– particularly the green one.
I don’t know if it’s because of the Salman Rushdie thing or what, but I can’t stand this woman.
I love that Salman Rushdie got a mention in these comments! I’m not a fan of Padma but I am a fan of him!
So am I. He is one awesome writer.
Rushdie was married at the time they started their affair. I don’t understand your comment. Is this vilifying the woman or just a visceral reaction to her? I get the latter, but not the former.
Ohhh, I didn’t know he had cheated on a wife to get to her. That’s not surprising. there are so many things I dislike about that man. He happened to be very crude to a dear friend of mine, but beyond that I think his work beyond The Satanic Verses is lazy and nasty.
This comment made me Google. I had no idea the two were married. From the bit I saw, it sounds like he was an awful husband and he didn’t disagree with anything she said in her book. What makes you not like her, then?
I know this was from forever ago, sorry for the late reply.
It’s always strange to me when a woman whose diet is obviously strictly controlled, and whose whole vibe is about CONTROL, pretends to love food for pleasure. Watching her on that cooking show was like watching a sadist try to manipulate me into saying the sky isn’t blue, if that makes sense. Like something out of the Hunger Games, where you’re supposed to smile while interacting with something beastly.
#random comment. I have a little cousin named Saf and we call him Saffy Taffy. he’s so cute haha
Aw! Well please let him know that this SaffyTaffy says hello and wishes him well. <3
Such a talented, multifaceted woman. The collection is not what I would have expected, but quite beautiful, as is the packaging.
Eyeshadow quad called… Desert Dusk??? Huda called, she wants the name of her palette back.
I’m quite certain if you were to go back to the 70s and/or 80s, you’d be hard pressed to *not* find at least one product that didn’t have the name Desert Dusk… Besides, I’d rather have a brand name a product after something one can actually visualize, even if there are dozens of others with the same name, than some random word or pun.
It’s a pretty collection, as in packaging and color story, but none of it wows me.
Wow, what a bold, racy promo pic! Oooh, the collection looks nice, love the fresh spring colors of the shadows and eyeliners. And OMG, the gold design on the palette, it’s gorgeous! Yep, I’m interested!
The purple and green eyeshadow quad and the orange cheek duo are whispering in my ear! This packaging looks lovely, too!
I hope she truly was the one who chose the gold and the patterns because to me, it seems like they were chosen because it reflects her being Indian or something? and I’m just not about that. That’s the first thing that came to my mind when I saw it. I love Mac but this shit looks like it’s trying to be all exotic and cultural. The colours of the makeup products themselves however actually do intrigue me. It’s a miracle that there’s no orange here. That would just be too Bengal Tiger and Monsoon Wedding for me to handle.
Admittedly, I don’t follow her at all, but I have seen enough images of her to be of the opinion that she did have some input on the shade choices. Every time I’ve seen a photo of her, it seems these types of shades are either represented in her clothing choices, or in her surroundings.
Whoa. This collection is so beautiful. Love the eyeshadow quad colors and packaging!! I’m most interested in the “beige” (looks brown) blush duo. I’m not into Padma though, but don’t have a strong enough opinion that it’d actually deter me from buying.
Ditto, on everything you posted! I don’t follow her, but I have an affinity for beige/brown cheek products. That said, because I’m not a huge fan, and I have an abundance of those types of cheek products, I won’t be jumping through hoops, or sacrificing anything to get my hands on it. If I have the means, and find it in a store, I’ll probably grab it.
Blue Blood is really pretty! Overall a nice collection, if not really my style. I like that it has some color to it.
What a beautiful collection! Not sure about those shades on my skin tone though. Keeping my eyes peeled for this!
Beautifully designed and gorgeous shades. Perhaps I would have loved a more jewel toned palette, but they are very pretty.
I’m excited. Beautiful exotic colors!! I’m up here in Alaska, so anything that screams warmth I’m all over it?
Alluring collection.
I know who Padma is but only from “Top Chef” which is one of only two “reality TV” shows that I watch. The other being Project Runway. I think she is a stunningly beautiful woman. I don’t feel like this release screams her name to me. Anyway, not sure if I should be all about this release or boycotting it because of something she has done or said!! Anyway, as regards the release, I love the packaging. I think it looks really lovely. I like the shades in the purple/green eye shadow palette but what is really calling my name are the double ended pencils. I love all of them. I hope they review well.
I love the 70s palette, the eyeliners and a couple of the lipsticks. The packaging is gorgeous and I enjoy Padma on Top Chef.
The packaging is lovely and sumac and mittai pink lipsticks are beautiful.
This collection is gorgeous! I want both quads!
I like the dual ended pencils
Pretty pretty π The packaging is gorgeous and I love the ’70’s Sunset shadow quad because I really, really need a “coppery purple with gold sparkle” eyeshadow *swoon*. I’m loving the silver/gold dual pencil, too. Can’t wait to check this collection out in person!
I think these colours might reflect her own personal aesthetic and style rather than a collection of colours that reflect her “culture” or ethnicity. I’m Pakistani but personally I’d much rather wear these colours than the red/maroon/orange/gold that’s always associated with my culture. I’m so sick of those shades.
Am I the only one who hates the god packaging? Itβs horrible I prefer. Ac simple black packaging!,
