Benefit Watt’s Up! Highlighter

Benefit Watt’s Up! ($30.00 for 0.33 oz.) is a “champagne” hued cream-to-powder highlighter that’s designed to work on all complexions. Benefit suggests applying it to cheek and brow bones and use the soft blender to sculpt and blend out the protect. It can be used on its own or over existing makeup.

It’s a shimmered champagne beige that almost seems like it’ll be too much, but once it’s blended out, it results in a beautiful, glowy sheen that’s luminous and lit-from-within. It sits on top of makeup well without looking heavy or caky, though it certainly works well against the natural skin. The consistency is creamy without being thick or greasy; it has enough glide to apply without bunching up in places, but it stays where you put it.

I like blending out the product with fingertips, but the included applicator (on the other end of the tube, which feels like a plush sponge) will work, too. I’m just wary of washing it, but it would do in a pinch, and I think it smears around any underlying makeup.  I was really pleased with the wear, because it lasted for a full eight hours and didn’t settle into pores or look uneven after a long day.

That is SUCH a pretty highlighter. Gorgeous.
I may have to bite the bullet and pay the horrible shipping fee. I was wanting to try chachatint and they’re rel! mascara anyway.
You look beautiful, Christine!

I really contemplated purchasing this one last time I was at Sephora, but I wondered how well the creaminess of it would hold up on my prone-to-being-oily-skin? I might have to check it out and test it myself since the rating is really good 🙂

The lady at the Benefit-counter showed me this product. It looks really nice but the thing that’s holding me back with all Benefit products is the price.

This looks soooooo pretty! I was planning to buy MAC Pearl CCB, which would you say is better? Does Pearl last as well on the skin? I’m light-medium and warm toned, if that matters.

This sound perfect for me then! I think I’m going to suck it up and pay the $35 CAD or so,then, just as soon as I finish Highbeam. Can I just say I hate how Canadian prices are always so much higher? The value of our dollars are not that different. /end rant lol
Thanks!

yea, i was thinking the same thing. I just swatched that one over the weekend, they look really similar!

I use the third one (bronze lambada) on my skin as a bronzy highlight, it looks so beautiful! I would definitely recommend. Now, I might go and pick up the first one.

$30 for this??? TheBalm MaryLoumanizer is about 100000 times better and will probably last a lifetime. By the looks of it this may not even last you 3months.
Benefit’s products are full of bull…like completely full of it- overpriced products with questionable quality and gimmicky packaging. The only worthy product of theirs is the creaseless shadows.

I don’t know how you’d go through a tube of this in 3 months – you need about two light dabs on each cheek to highlight, not a glob! I’m not sure if you realized but I did not extend the product all the way out of the tube… just enough so you can see the shade. It’s a little bigger than theBalm Mary Lou-manizer, actually 🙂 One is cream and the other is powder, and I’ve never used either product up, so I couldn’t tell you how many uses are in each, but I was not sure if you saw the actual quantity listed in the beginning of the post.

Hey girl! That looks lovely! How would it compare to High Beam or Dior’s Amber Diamond — I know High Beam is more silver based and Dior’s is a powder, but if you had to pick just one, what would your choose?

Jennifer Avatar

I dont know if its just the highlighter or the combination of it with ur foundation but ur skin looks great in this pic. What foundation might that be? Guerlain?

Benefit already has High Beam and Moonbeam, while this product is in solid form, not liquid, it doesn’t seem particularly special to me. I have enough highlight products already and adding another would be a waste. I’m starting to realize what a gimmick these companies suck us all into with their “new” products. Frankly I’m ashamed of myself for buying into it for so long, I’m going to be wiser with my money from now on.

Christine, I love your site, especially when I don’t want to buy a product because you are so honest. 😉 I was wondering, would you consider doing pictures of yourself with and without bronzer/illuminator in the future (just saw your post about watts up, you look beautiful). I can never tell whether they really make a difference or not.

I tried it the other day and found it WAY TOO SHIMMERY on my hand once I was in the sunlight, but I guess I’ll give it another look next time. It looks wonderful on you.

This looks lovely! And less frosty than High Beam. I think this would work better with my Asian skin tone. I’m also a bigger fan of the stick/solid packaging because I find the packaging of High Beam to be too bulky. I believe it’s a good move for Benefit to come out with a stick highlighter!

I like that Benefit introduces a few products every now and then that are good quality and fun. Thanks to you, Christine, I put my eyes on this brand and I’m really liking it!

I have yet to try this product, but have heard that Benefit makes some nice highlighter’s. I have just started to get into applying a highlighter as part of my daily make-up routine, and am always on the look out for a new product, better than what I am currently using. I use Nars in Illuminator and Orgasm which I blend together before application since I feel one is too light and the other is too dark. Although Nars brand of highlighters is pretty good, I feel Watt’s Up would be a more natural look. The kind of look that I desire to achieve!

I tried this and loved it the first day. Didn’t get the glow the second or third day. I’m wondering if my foundation is coming off and dulling it if that makes sense. It was so amazing on day one!
