Kat Von D Fawn Shade + Light Eye Contour Quad Review, Photos, Swatches
Fawn
Kat Von D Fawn Shade + Light Eye Contour Quad ($26.00 for 0.21 oz.) is a warm-toned, neutral set of eyeshadows–three matte and one shimmery–housed in a plastic compact. Three of the eyeshadows were more powdery (with one being more “tolerably” powdery) and one felt a little dry. They had fairly good pigmentation, though the lightest shade was powdery to the point where it sheered out easily and did not build up. For me, this palette would only make sense for someone who doesn’t mind powdery eyeshadows and normally uses primer.

Fawn (Base)
Fawn (Base) is a light-medium brown withw arm, orange undertones and a matte finish. It had good pigmentation with a soft, moderately powdery consistency that kicked up a noticeable amount of excess product in the pan, even when I used a light touch. The eyeshadow blended out nicely on the skin, though, and lasted for seven hours on me.

Fawn (Define)
Fawn (Define) is a medium-dark brown with warm, yellowish undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that applied evenly to the lid and was buildable to full coverage. The eyeshadow felt soft and silky in the pan with just a bit of powderiness, but it was significantly less than with the base shade in the palette. On me, it wore well for seven and a half hours.

Fawn (Contour)
Fawn (Contour) is a deep taupe with subtle, warm undertones and a pearly sheen. The texture felt a touch dry to the touch, but it blended out without too much work and yielded opaque pigmentation in a single layer. It stayed on well for seven hours before fading slightly.

Fawn (Highlight)
Fawn (Highlight) is a light white with neutral-to-cool undertones and a matte finish. It appeared pinkish in the pan but looked white when I applied it to my arm as well as my brow bone. The texture was very powdery, which made it prone to sheering to and hard to build up–the best I got was semi-opaque coverage but I could not diffuse the edges without it dusting away to sheer coverage. On me, it lasted for five and a half hours.

Part of me feels disappointed that these didn’t perform as well as they should have, knowing how nice Kat Von D’s shadows can be. But on the other hand, there’s nothing here I can’t dupe already, and therefore, there’s no reason for me to want to buy this palette, other than the cool, sturdy, travel-friendly packaging. So it’s a fairly easy pass for me.
I was hoping you’d be reviewing this, after seeing it in a face look you did the other day. Given the combo of a so-so rating and the fact that I have so many eyeshadows in these colour families, I will pass and check out your dupes.
Fawn is probably the most boring, lackluster quad of eyeshadows that I’ve seen in a long while. Big ‘meh’ for me. Her other quads were at least interesting!
She d/c’d Monarch, which I never would have looked at twice, except for Christine, and that was the ultimate brown + palette. The only browns that don’t overblend or muddy up on me…and this is her brown offering currently? Except the NBs, i’m not highly duped, bec these shades look like one big mistake on me. I agree with you totally. With Kat, you expect inspired…whether you like/choose it or not. This is ordinary, the last adjective I would think to apply to kvd. And certainly not up to the brand’s general standards. Think I just yawned.
A fairly underwhelming little palette from Kat Von D. It reminds me of the bareMinerals The Glass Beach.
None of these shades are particularly special or different and can be found in most larger palettes.
An easy pass.
That is a beautiful eye look Christine, I love those browny shades on you.
Are these supposed to be new? Because I saw a billion of these in all the shades at a Marshall’s just last week. I wanna say they were no more than 10 bucks each. They had the big shade + light palette as well.
This is a new version of the palette – the formula has been released before with different variations.
Even if it was an B+ palette, I’d think everyone is not only able to dupe it, but needing a palette like this while having something close to this isn’t necessary. I have the Shade and Light eye palette followed by a couple of neutral palettes… me, personally, I wouldn’t want it. But to gift it to someone who is starting may be a good palette to use.
That is my two cents.
These colors aren’t in my wheelhouse so easy pass!
