Rant & Rave: Sheet Masks

Tell us what you love and hate about...

Sheet Masks

They feel really wasteful to me, even though I understand the appeal, and as someone who takes forever to finish a single jar of face masks, it would be more economical to just be able to tear open a fresh mask as-needed.

RAVE: They feel super refreshing and deeply hydrating, especially during our super hot summers! Or even in winter, when again, our dry desert climate can suck all the life and moisture from my face.
RANT: Dang it! But I’m always afraid of them slipping off onto the floor! And then there’s the price per use: 1, yes ONE use only @ $6 or even more a pop? Yikes! Like Christine, I would love it if for the same price, they gave us more than one!

I bought a ten pack of sheet masks without thinking about it a LOT but once I’d tried a couple of them, I realized how wasteful they are. I don’t think I’ll be buying them anymore tbh.

Some serum is always left at the bottom of the package, sometimes quite a bit. I actually found plain cotton mask forms that can be placed in the package to soak up the leftover serum and create a new mask. A lot of trouble. I agree that they are wasteful and I use sheet masks only after a long plane ride when I truly need a heavy hit of hyaluronic acid. Otherwise mine come out of a tube or a jar.

Rave: They are refreshing and relaxing. They feel great on a summer’s day! I also look like Leatherface’s long-lost sister when I’m wearing one, which is a huge perk.

Rant: Taking the backing paper off can be really difficult. They aren’t usually geared toward oily skin. They are expensive to use on a regular basis.

I really don’t think there’s anything I like about them! They never fit my face (I have a longish nose), they’re always sliding off, they’re wasteful, and I really don’t see any benefits. They just make my face feel sticky and weird!

I don’t think they’re wasteful, unless you throw the leftover essence in the pack away or don’t wring the mask out (unless you have severe and erupting facial blemishes). Some companies use biodegradable materials too, although I wish all did.

Depending on where you shop you can get total steals on really highly regarded companies as well, and can find ones that work for you from lesser brands for pocket change. Dermal is a great example: 16 for $10! And ipsy’s face mask deal is usually great bang for your buck.

But it totally is a preference thing. I can’t stand dipping into jars of product, and something in the ones I’ve tried usually breaks me out into closed comedones anyway.

I haven’t been drawn to use sheet masks, though I hear a lot about them from the youtube gurus. I actually like dipping into jars of masks, or tubes of masks, many of which I keep in the frig for pampering on a summer’s evening.

I find them wasteful as well, Christine, which is one of the many reasons I don’t buy them, though I’ve tried them when they were in a set or a GWP or something. I don’t understand the appeal of them as they never actually stay on my face (even if I’m lying down) and they don’t feel like they do anything. If the convenience factor was the main issue (which it isn’t for me) I’d just get something like the mini mask pods like from Nugg (or in my case the mini PTR mask sets or other mini jar/tube masks which are indeed great for travel). I think the only “sheet” masks I use are the PTR under-eye gel patches which I use on special and/or desperately needed occasions.

I love them when I’m travelling or otherwise going through extra stress, but other than that I don’t use them – my regular skincare routine takes care of most things and a lot of the sheet masks I’ve tried come with unnecessary irritants. I would LOVE to find dry mask sheets somewhere, though, to soak in my own toners and serums or treatments for when I feel i need something extra!

I don’t think I’ve ever bought a mask of any kind. I just get them, both sheet and other kinds, in subscription boxes and bags. I think the sheet masks are easier, although they are just a little small around my eyes and have to be ripped a little. But then when I’m done I just throw it away and leave the serum on my face to absorb in. I usually just keep it on until it feels like the mask (full face, eye, or lip mask) is drying out and then toss it. My skin always feels smooth after using one.

I have only tried one my daughter gave me and it is a cheap one from the Korean Daiso store. It is a moisturizing one and although I find putting in the mask odd it did leave my skin plumpy nicely moisturized I was pleasantly surprised and no breakouts. Still have one more packet left.
I do wonder not on sheet masks but a gel one I tried from Target Que Bella I think it was the cucumber one. Are these masks supposed to be that strong? I mean i do like it but having on the dry side of skin am afraid to dry it any further although it doesn’t. At the same time I liked it I’m afraid to use it often and only leave in face for 15 instead if the recommended full 20 minutes I’m afraid my skin will fall off when removing it! But it leaves skin so super clean I think I dare use it only twice a year. Lol! I find its effect to be a strong peeling mask but it sure delivers. I moisturize like crazy afterwards but it leaves skin like a baby’s soft buttom and no breakouts but yes, a bit of redness in my cheeks that go away in a few days. Are all these gel masks that strong? I think they would be excellent on oily skin. Do not use this one if you have breakouts it’ll pull the skin away leaving it raw. Lol! Seriously.
I like it but fear it at the same time. ?
