The Dupe List: Check Vanity for Dupes
Limit your search results to show only dupes you own!
We made a slight tweak over on The Dupe List to help manage and find dupes for those who want to avoid purchasing too many of the same shades. Now, when you want to lookup dupes for a particular shade or formula, you can limit the results to items in your Vanity by clicking the checkbox. You can also check your Vanity for dupes whenever you’re browsing a product’s dupes, so whether you’ve read a review and are looking at the product’s dupes, you can easily refine down to shades you already own.
The Vanity is a way to keep track of the products your own. You’ll need to be a registered user to start adding products to your Vanity. You can view dupes within your Vanity, and you can also view dupes between your Vanity and your Wishlist.  (You can keep track of products you’re wanting by adding them to your Wishlist.)
And hey, while I have you, did you know that you can compare any two palettes to see both official dupes and similar shades between the two of them? Or that you can compare any two swatches side-by-side we have whenever you want?
P.S. — We are currently working on improvements in the way products (that we don’t have) are added to make that a faster process for readers (this is our next big project!).
Check your vanity for dupes when browsing any product’s dupes!
I saw your comment on that reddit thread talking about this and was so exited to have it roll out. I use the vanity for most of my products (some items I own are not in your system) and this makes browsing through different products so much more efficient. Thanks!
Happy to help, Alexa! 🙂
It was intended that the ability to check for dupes between Vanity/Wishlist was to help with that but I later on realized that it wasn’t efficient, since you had to have it on your Wishlist AND you’d be browsing all dupes between the two vs. just for a particular product.
Wow, this is pretty cool!! sounds very useful 🙂
Let me know if it helps you!
Love this new feature!
Yay!!
You guys are amazing. I really ought to do it. Thanks
Thank you!
Wow this is so helpful to a person like me with a large collection. I’m often surprised when I check for dupes that I own similar colors already. Glad I’ve been good at putting products I own on my vanity list. Great addition, thanks Christine!
Awesome, Denise! 🙂 Glad this will help you!
This is awesome! Thanks for the addition ;D
Our pleasure!
I didn’t think this feature could get any better than it is now and, VOILA, you find a way to make it even better still! Many, many thanks for all the ways you’ve made this site into such a valuable (and fun) place to be.
Thank you so much, Mariella! 🙂
Thanks so much for this!! I like to use all of my products and don’t want dupes.
You’re welcome! 🙂
Hi! Perfect project! I use a lot the swatch gallery, it is very helpful.
Woohoo! 🙂
Love and use the vanity all the time, thanks for your hard work on it. I’m sure it isn’t easy to keep up with.
If only I could figure out how to keep the database more updated!
Woah! Awesome, so excited to use this!
I hope it works well for you!
Your site is da’ bomb! Thanks for this, I’ll definitely be creating a vanity here.
Brilliant! Now just need to make a more concentrated effort to add to my vanity
One way to make it less intense is maybe to go by formula or type – or maybe just by the types of products you tend to purchase from and need to avoid repeats!
Hey Christine, I’m not seeing the option that lets me check the box to limit my search to the items in my vanity. Are you still rolling it out to all users? (This question is just for you/the site admins, you don’t need to publish it)
It should be working for all users 🙂
Thanks for doing this!!! I live in the dupe lists lol.
Also saw your Reddit post about this. PUMPED!!!
This is a great feature! Thank you, Christine!
I know you just rolled this out this week, so sorry for asking this so quickly:
Is there a way to “check for dupes in vanity” from the product page for an item or its review? The only method it to go to The Dupe List and search there?
Thanks again for such an amazing feature, I am in love with it!
Sorry, Zoe, it is only on the product’s dupes’ results or if you want to look it up directly, you can do it through The Dupe List. There’s only so much room on each page (think about mobile!) and too many buttons can cause confusion.
All valid points, thanks for getting back to me!
