Which is perfect for me. I wear bright colors in the winter to contrast against the cold and gloomy weather and I wear neutrals in the summer (=

emily Avatar

Me too! I LOVE wearing coral lip shades in the winter. Totally cheers me up and makes me look alive when everythings casting a gray shadow on my skin

Alecia Avatar

It is really cool! I seen one of the pixiwoo sisters on youtube use it in a video…I don’t know how they got it so early but it’s really bright and almost looks chartreuse. I can’t wait for this collection 🙂

BriiMonster Avatar

It isn’t Fall everywhere in the world though; in the Southern Hemisphere it’s being released in Spring, which is perfect for us 🙂

Stefani Avatar

OH MY GOD! I dont know who this person is but this seems like the coolest collection MAC has done since I have been using them. Everything looks amazing, especially the eyeshadows!!!

crazedstargazer Avatar

This truly reminds me of MAC collections of old, where you could clearly see the concept behind the collection and each product within the collection van be threaded together.

Devi Avatar

Gah, seeing more info and images now, I’m actually curious to see how these will perform. >.< Darnit. Those quads. Those eyeshadows. Those nail lacquers. I must see how they perform. -_-

Ashley Avatar

I’m so excited for this collection! Not only does it look to be chock full of brights, but it’s also connected with one of my favorite revolutionary photographers! 🙂

Ani_BEE Avatar

Another electric collect I actually hope the warm pink lipstick is permanent.

I’m good for bright shades now that I’ve up together a raibow palette from Inglot. *_*

Ani_BEE Avatar

Oh! Lanscape is comming back. I like Porcelain Pink but it’s just a pink tint version of By Candlelight.

Lip Erase … terrible product for longevity. Use a flesh tone pencil on your lips instead.

kira Avatar

this collection looks like a must in my makeup collection since i love bright and bold colors!! it might be my second biggest haul since semi precious!
by the way Christine, is the glam glass collection going to launch tomorrow?? thanks & sorry if i sound annoying its just that im obsessed.

Carrie B Avatar

CINDY SHERMAN! OMG! I never would’ve expected this. She is this really interesting visual artist–I love her “self portraits” where she does insane things to herself and her image…she has been really influential to me as an artist in thinking about self-representation. This is such an awesome collaboration! (assuming this is *the* Cindy Sherman they’re referring to)

Dada Avatar

lipsticks pretty pretty pretty! 🙂 can i ask you something off-topic do you know dupe for MAC Waternymph eyeshadow , its my favorite and i cant buy it anymore ?

ANNE Avatar

The lady at the pro store in London told me that Neaon Orange was going to be discontinued – is this how they sell their lines through, or was I told porkies!? It is a little disappointing that there are so many pro products included, but I suppose that is good for the wallet. May still buy Show Orchid and Fusion Pink as they are on my ‘one day’ list and will save a trip to the pro store!

Mac are killing me with the amount of collections that are coming out!

Pamela Avatar

I can’t wait to see the description of the chartreuse/olive shadow, orange lipstick and the coral pigment. I hope there aren’t any re-promotes.

helen Avatar

I LOVE CINDY SHERMAN!! I teach film and art theory and visual culture and love to discuss her work in depth. I have read many a college paper devoted to her untitled film stills. i love that she’s collaborating with MAC. She also did a print ad with marc jacobs some time ago which I used in my lecture. Can’t wait for this collection!

Vanessa Avatar

I agree! She was one of my favorites when I used to do Visual Arts in high school, her work is amazing so I’m really excited for this collection!

Roo Avatar

I’m not interested in any of the products shown but I’m very interested in the visuals for this collection. Cindy Sherman is a very important and influential artist!

Lil Avatar

Christine, thanks for the info on this. I haven’t seen you post any reviews in the glam glass collection? Is it still being released tomorrow?

Christine Avatar

I don’t have any product from Glamglass, so I can’t review anything, sorry! I don’t know if it will be – nobody has confirmed it is, but nobody is saying it is officially delayed. I’ve been waiting for confirmation from MAC on the delay and new release date for 2 weeks now. Sorry, I can’t do anything else 🙁

Allison Avatar

The coral pigment looks very promising…:) I’d have to experiment with the rest but that’s what I love about make-up in general.

Tari Avatar

OMG!!!!!! I want everything!!! The colors are absolutely gorgeous, I’m definitely excited about this collection. I do wish that MAC would slow down on the collections though. I’m having a hard time keeping up, me an my wallet lol

christina Avatar

I heard MAC lightscapade MSF will be re-promoted with this collection OMG I can’t wait! need to start saving!!! MY poor wallet!!

Lotus Avatar

Eeee! I love Cindy Sherman! This is so exciting. I wouldn’t have expected her collaborating with any fashion/beauty brands honestly. She’s a makeup anarchist, haha! I do love the bold colors though.

Jacquelyn Johnson Avatar

Lightscapade MSF is supposed to debut in this collection as well as Porcelain Pink MSF. Also Jungle Juice is coming back in this collection. There’s going to be 2 Quads (Parlor Smokey and Angel Flame) and 4 lipglasses and a jumbo penultimate liner.

meme Avatar

WOOOOO! Too bright for me! And there have been times I have had fun with a bright pink eye shadow. But this one just looks garish.

Judy Avatar

What a beautiful collection! I am very excited about this & a bunch of the other collections coming out for the Fall. MAC is back!!!!! I can’t wait to find out the color names. So far, I want all four lipsticks and maybe an eyeliner & lipliner.

Kathy.H Avatar

There is many re-promoted shades in this collection..
Lipsticks – Fusion Pink, Ruby Woo, Show Orchid, Violetta
Pigments – Golden Olive, Magenta Madness, Neo-orange, Violet
Eye shadows – Passionate, Sock-a-holic

This is from what I’ve been finding around, not sure if there are exact and of course there are many other shades i have not listed
Hope it helps those who are craving some more info (:

Leslie Avatar

Hmmm, I vaguely remember reading this on Specktra. I guess it’s a good thing in that I can spend less money because many of these will be repromotes, but bad in that…hey, no new products (or not many anyway)! In any case, I’ve always wanted Show Orchid and now have my eye on Fusion Pink. This collection should give those of us nowhere near a PRO store access to those colors. So yay on that.

Mariella Avatar

Don’t forget Cross-Cultural, Lightscapade and Porcelain Pink MSFs, to say nothing of Feline. Why don’t they just make that permanent, since they repromote it every 5 minutes?

April Avatar

I love it. I do more with my makeup in the Fall/Winter anyways. It’s just too hot and humid where I live to spend a lot of time on my makeup when it’s just going to get all melted off anyway even with primers. But in the winter I love to do more detailed and “full face” makeup.

Melissa Avatar

wow. this is why I love MAC – their collaborations are always the most interesting and refreshing. Cindy Sherman is such a dynamic artist and I’m excited to see what comes out of this!

Anna Avatar

The info for this collection is available on Specktra.com already. The release date is in August, before the Posh paradise collection.

Maureen Avatar

Who cares if it’s fall vs. spring? I’d buy that green pressed shadow any day of the year… or the purple… or any of them… The lipstick on the far left looks good, too. :3

summerblue Avatar

What really makes no sense to me is that MAC puts out the brights (particularly in lipsticks) in the Fall & puts out dark colors in the spring & summer.

Pamela Avatar

I agree. I’m very traditional about cosmetics colors. Wearing a coral lip in the dead of winter makes me depressed so does wearing burgundy lips in the summer.

Erika Avatar

Color is actually on trend for fall; mixing a pop of color with simple outfits is what is being seen on runways everywhere! So to everyone who is saying these colors are too bright or summery check the trends! (or be left behind)

Kim-Mary Avatar

This collection looks amazing!!! I thought jungle juice lipstick was going to be re-promoted with it? That was what I read in lots of other blogs. I was hoping it would be. Heard great things about it. Also, wasn’t there going to be a bunch of eyeshadow quads and blushes? I’m still excited. MAC is rocking with all these collections. My wallet is crying, but the addict in me is very very happy!!! 😀

Hilary Avatar

Ooh! Looks exciting. I know I want 2 of the lipglasses (Pink Fade and Orange Tempera are calling me! <3) and Lightscapade MSF (just watch this sell out!) and maybe a lipstick. Alot of the lipsticks seem too bright for my tasting though. And maybe an eyeshadow quad.

Emma Avatar

You should research the artist before saying such things. And maybe re-evaluate why you’re investing in MAC, if they are promoting such photos. Have you not hear of MAC’s mission statement? All ages, races and genders? Does that not equal acceptance of everyone, whether a “weird” performance artist, a drag queen, a home maker mom etc etc.

Grow up.

Michele Avatar

I feel the same but I guess it’s art. I can pass on this collection. Good thing too as I have WAY too much makeup from previous collections.

Mariella Avatar

I rather like the 2nd quad and the Porcelain Pink MSF (though I don’t think it’s near as good as Petticoat) but I have to say, the woman in the first photo looks like some of the women my mom used to hang out with in the 50’s, who thought they were “glam” but who really looked like old tarts. Not one of the 3 looks has any validity for me.

Nicole R. Avatar

The collection just seems to be a lot of repromotes and Pro stuff (apart from the quads and a few other bits), I think I’ll pass. Oh yeah, why do the women in the pictures look a little creepy, maybe it’s just me, I don’t know?!

Janine Ogden Avatar

i LOVE that movie. it’s really one of the best movies about an artist and their process. not to mention a very funny story about her nutty boyfriend.

leesie Avatar

Those lipglasses all look right up my alley, and I love the sound of some of those pigments (especially Emerald Dusk). Three Ring Yellow looks so much like the shadow (or was it a pigment?) in the sadly-not-actually-real Temptalia collection. And I want it.

Laura Avatar

I’m initially interested in:

Ash Violet Fluidline
Plum Bright Lipstick
Emerald Dusk Pigment
Starless Night Pigment
Parlor Smoke Eyeshadow Quad
Three Ring Yellow Eyeshadow
Shock-a-holic Eyeshadow
Royale Eyeshadow
Good Times Lipglass

I’ll have to wait for swatches and comparisons before deciding though!

Rachael Avatar

Wow! Its like they’re trying to do the toxic collection from Illamasque, only they failed miserably and came off horrifically creepy. That’s just embarrassing.

Stefani Avatar

I disagree. They are interesting and beautiful. Actually I hated the toxic nature photos. They were too literal and it showed the lack of creativity from illimasqua. These photos belong in a art gallary.

Kirari Avatar

I love the colors that I’m seeing in this collection. Absolutely love them, especially the lipsticks.

The promotional images, however, are terrible! They look like they were done by a small child with a very large crayon.

Lilinah Avatar

Cindy Sherman is not a model or fashion makeup artist. She’s a performance artist and photographer. That’s her in all three photos as characters she has created. She is an artist who uses makeup to help personify her characters. Look her up on the internet for more info on her – she is *intensely* creative.

Lydis Avatar

WOW. This is the most unappealing makeup ads I’ve seen in a long time. And people are “excited”? Excited for what? It’s a bunch of repromotes and permanents. MAC is getting desperate now; then again they have been for at least two years of coming out with multiple collections a month. How do people still buy this junk? ::confused::

Deb Avatar

Not everyone has access to a MAC PRO and while you could argue that you can purchase the products online if that was the case, a lot of people prefer to swatch and test the products out themselves before buying.

Judy Avatar

Plum bright is mine, mine all mine (evil ha ha ha). Just joking. I want both quads, about three or four of the lipsticks and ash violet fluidliner. MAC is really going all out for the Fall/Winter collections. I’m not complaining, but my wallet is.

LOLLIPOP Avatar

honestly. those ads are terrifying and wake up a sleeping fear of clowns and dolls. The make up looks cool, but seriously, …terrifying.

Cherokee Avatar

I am not going to get excited until I see Christine’s review and swatches. All of the products look dupeable so I will wait. On the fence with this collection.

Elise Avatar

Love it! Simply because I love Cindy Sherman…and that is what makeup has always been about…creation & transformation. I may or may not purchase from the collection, but I applaud the collaboration & promotion! Fantastic. 🙂

Maggie Avatar

I’m a bright color fanatic, but… eh. I don’t know. This collection seems kind of blah. Too many permanent shades and repromotes, and the shades that are new are shades they’ve done recently 😛

Jillian Avatar

i love the fact that there are bright colors and toned-down colors so anyone can use these, whether they like brights or not. I might have to try the parlor smoke quad! It looks like a great quad for smokey eyes. I have a question though. I have never bought a premade quad from mac. Do the eyeshadows come out of the quad?

Kathleen Avatar

with the new ones, you have to go through a long process to depot them, but it can be done. If you google, “how to depot new MAC quads” you will probably find instructions.

Joyce Avatar

those promo pictures terrify me 😮 but the products look nice, colorwise, ooh and feline!! i’ve been dying to try it out, i’m gonna be saving up for one (or more) of those

Leslie Avatar

This is kind of bizarre. Cindy Sherman is fantastic. To me, her work really makes you think about what society expects of a woman…all those photos of her overly done up, looking like she’s had a face lift and whatnot. They’re garish and straightforward and even disturbing at times.

So if that’s her goal, or if that’s what many of us are getting out of her work, how odd (or contradictory) is it that her work and persona, and thus, her point of view, would be used to sell makeup to those same women who are constantly being pressured into looking a certain way by society/the media/companies like MAC itself? I don’t know…it just doesn’t sit well with me. That being said, I think the shots above are creepy and awesome, but the fact that their point is to market something to me is just…odd. But maybe all of this is making a point in itself.

I’m also not surprised that MAC is taking a more superficial stance on her work by branding this collection as something for the “chameleon”. I don’t know that being a chameleon is all that Cindy Sherman is about. But maybe it is…I guess that’s why art is subjective.

Regardless, I am still a superficial makeup whore who may or may not have been brainwashed into thinking I need every purple lipstick known to man. So Plum Bright will be mine.

Nellie Avatar

I had the same reaction — that Cindy Sherman’s work is all about critiquing everything that, say, a LE MAC collection, is all about. I don’t see her work as just about transformation — there’s definitely something deeper there.

Why is why I think so many people are having such a visceral reaction to the photos. Her work isn’t about “making you look pretty” so there’s an inherent contradiction in using it to make you want to buy stuff.

Having said that, I would love it if this collection could give wider exposure to Sherman’s work, but it doesn’t seem as if that’s happening based on the comments I see in this blog. 🙁

Meagan Avatar

I had never heard of her before, but from looking at the photos I got the reaction “Hmm, she must be a stage performer?” and after reading the comments I realized she is something ‘more’. So I’m off to research. Maybe many MAC fans are like me- have a reaction thats more than the superficial “omg those photos are ugly ewwwwwwwwwww” and figure out what she’s all about. I know I’m intrigued and I’m going to!!

Leslie Avatar

I think the problem is that not many people are familiar with her and her work. Makeup is *supposed* to be fun and lighthearted. Makeup is about making women and men look and feel beautiful…so when you throw someone like Cindy Sherman at people who are expecting the total opposite (for example, Lady Gaga looking gorgeous in Viva Glam ads), it kinda makes sense that many would react with surprise and/or disgust.

I’m disenchanted by people’s reactions as well…but I think this one is going a little over everyone’s heads. That’s not MAC’s demographic’s fault, it’s MAC’s fault. Even so, the collection is going to sell just like every other collection they’ve ever had. I don’t think anyone loses here. Hopefully it will raise awareness about Cindy Sherman’s work as well, even if her participation in the collection is kind of hypocritical in the first place.

be Avatar

lol totally agree. Only I do get the idea of the “chameleon” being that I have always been one to see make up as a means of transformation. I use make up as a powerful tool. I can be whomever I chose from day to day. Yesterday I was the clown in my Show Orchid lippie and I loved every minute. Today I’m the naughty church girl in Plum Dandy. Cindy Sherman is definitely thought provoking and maybe too much for people like me who just want to tackle the importance of blending with the 217 or 222, today.

Gisella Avatar

Those promo pictures are frighening!!!! Not sure what I want yet thinking about angel flame quad, feline liner, the purple lipstick and maybe a gloss. Since most are perm I can get them when money allows.

Saffron Avatar

Holy cow now that I’ve seen the promo it’s no joke! This rivals the first viva glam ads for coolest thing mac has ever done! Loooooove it!

Courtney Avatar

Wait…so it’s Lightscapade plus a bunch of stuff we can get a Pro stores already. Anyone else just a little disappointed? Don’t get me wrong, I love a bunch of this stuff, but as someone who lives near a pro store, I feel like I’m just having a trip saved.

And yet, I’m still very excited.

mc Avatar

I felt kinda disappointed too…but then again if the collection is all about bright colors and MAC has them in the pro store, then why not promote them in collection… At least those of us who aren’t near a pro store can have small taste of what they have there.

Belen Avatar

Cindy Sherman! Omg, she is such an amazing artist who actually sold one of her pictures for 3.9 million! The world most expensive photograph ever! This is soo cool!

Nadia Avatar

So pretty much a bunch of repromotes and permanent (at pro) products. A few new items thrown in for good measure. Yeah, I’ll pass. The promo images are horrific as well. It’s finally happened…I’ve lost my zest and interest in MAC 🙁

Crystal S. Avatar

Ok seriously? What is up with these pictures? The collection…awesome. But these pictures are nauseating. Is this part of the Cindy Sherman mythos? I don’t know this person. I am having a hard time taking this seriously.

Dana Avatar

I don’t wear brights but this collection seems like it has something for everyone. I am definitely interested in the Parlor Smoke Quad, Starless Night Pigment, Ash Violet Fluidline and Oyster Shell Polish

Anitacska Avatar

Angel Flame quad looks so similar to Rose is a rose quad, although the names are all different.

I hope they’re making enough Lightscapades, otherwise it will be another Stereo Rose fiasco. Porcelain Pink is pretty, but they should repromote Pleasureflush instead imo. How many times have they repromoted PP anyway, at least twice in the past 2-3 years!?

Nella Avatar

At what point does a woman tell herself ok at this age I can’t pull off those colors anymore?! Hopefully sooner then the one from the pictures above. This trend seems right on spot and appropriate….for clowns!

SatelliteDreamer Avatar

This is the first collection that I’ve really been excited about in a long time! I’m glad a lot of the products are permanent, so it makes it a bit easier on the wallet.

You’d better believe I’ll be one of the people going after Lightscapade though! I’ve been waiting for it to be released for about 2 years. I could never bring myself to pay ebay prices on it, or buy a used one. I will be pre-ordering at the store, and hopefully getting a backup online. I want one with heavy blue veining, and then another with more pink veining.

I can’t wait to see the *new* pigments, even though I hardly use the ones that I have. I’m honestly hoping that I have dupes. I can see myself dropping wayyyyy too much money on this collection, just between the piggies, and the MSFs.

Better start saving now. 🙂

Rosie Avatar

WOW this collection does look awesome, though I’m not big on the promo pic it loooks like a tacky “street walker lady”….. but the colors themselves look amazing!!!!

MORENA Avatar

They cant afford to come up with new shades I guess? Thats what i noticed about them lately… some collections would be kind of BLAH, and basic… and every now and then, come out wiht a big hit such as the Venemous Villains Collection, This one, The Wonderwoman collection.. etc etc

Julia Avatar

The only thing I’m REALLY interested in is the Angel Flame quad and the new fluid line, but I completely love the promo ads for this collection!!

MORENA Avatar

I love it, i wear these colors all year around. I LOVe when they come out with vibrant collections.
One issue though, didnt mac say that some of their products are not eye safe? Becus tat sure looks like Hi-Def Cyan on the clown’s eyes (unless its the eyeshadow maybe). And the third photo looks ike she has Process Magenta in the corner of her eyes

MORENA Avatar

So are they going to sell the Pro colors at a regular Mac store (until they run out)??? There is a pro store in my city but the regular Mac store is closer

bubblelacey Avatar

i only really wear bright shades like this on the warmer day of winter, because here in socal, there are. so even though i wear darker colors in the winter, i can still see myself getitng plenty of use out of these. i am in loveeeee with the angel flame quad 🙂

Jackers Avatar

Uh, am I supposed to want to look like the people in these ads? I mean, seriously? I think MAC has finally gone off of the deep end, it’s not even like the Illamasqua ads for their last collection, at least those were well done and the makeup was blended and applied flawlessly. These just look like someone from Long Island or Jersey in the 80s. Good God, NO!

Mel Avatar

I’m going to skip this one and wait for the collection with Gareth Pugh. The colors are not appealing and the promotional images are disturbing at best. MAC, I’m disappointed.

Ericka Avatar

Is this collection coming to department stores? I am getting Blue Storm pigment. I missed this the first time around. I think that I will pass on the rest of the collection.

Kay Avatar

Cindy is known for her portraits of depicting types or cliches of women. She does that here again using exaggerated makeup. Whether you find these “transformations” insulting, clever, or ironic, it’s all Cindy, even though MAC states it’s “the campaign we’ve longed forever to conceive…” hmmm.

Maybe Cindy would title the photos:

Photo #1: Cindy Sherman, the Long Island Matron
Photo #2: Cindy Sherman, Princess Sad Clown
Photo #3: Cindy Sherman, the Senior Portrait

Now moving on to photos of the MAC posh paradise paint pots! ;-P

lil momma Avatar

Interesting collection from mac. I’m not a fan of the promo pics. The makeup is pretty awesome but a clown photo?!! Really MAC, really??? I nearly pee’d myself when I saw it. No joke. I am curious to know if that plum bright lipstick and the prince noir will be similar in color? I know the finish is different but the pictures look very much a like. Also curious about another collection that may be released on the same date something called Art of Power? I wonder what items will be in that collection also. hmmm

Carrie Ann Avatar

I had no interest in this collection until I saw Lightscapade MSF. It looks so pretty. I’ve always wanted to get my hands on that one. Christine, is Pink Porcelain very similar to Petticoat?

Eleanor Avatar

It makes me kind of sad that some people don’t understand the concept of this collection. Cindy Sherman is an artist who transforms herself for her portraits. The pictures she takes aren’t meant to be realistic or taken literally as tutorials. The pictures might be creepy to you, but they’re inspirational ART, and I think they fit in very well with MAC’s history and reputation as a store catering to make up ARTISTS. That being said, I’m looking forward to this collection. I think it has an interesting mix of brights and more neutral colors. I’m probably going to get both the MSFs and the Parlor Smoke quad (:

be Avatar

EXACTLY!!!! I totally agree. I don’t understand the negative comments from people who supposedly understand “Make-up ART Cosmetics” aka MAC.

Catherine Avatar

Wow, surprised more people aren’t hyped about the Lightscapade MSF. Isn’t this the same MSF that hasn’t been repromoted in years, and the one I see going for upwards of $100 on ebay and LJ?

mumtaza Avatar

I wish they could have honored the great Cindy Sherman by creating more original colors inspired by her. If you don’t know who she is please Google her. She is a really legendary, provocative, groundbreaking artist. Hence the wild promo pictures. These colors are wonderful, but they are mostly permanent and repromotes. how could that happen when the had cindy sherman to work with?? I think this is totally half-asked and disappointing. Does anyone else agree?

Joanna Avatar

Lightscapade ftw! I might pick up feline as well, and the other MSF if I’m feeling crazy (which… I usually am :\) Otherwise, I feel I have something similar to everything else in the collection. And I really don’t like those promo images.

kristi Avatar

im sorry but those pics look utterly rediculous. i dont care if shes an ‘influential artist.’ they just look stupid. BUT, thats just my opinion. to add insult to injury, i think the eyeshadows are totally boring and ‘been there done that,’ especially the quads. BORING!! i dont get why everyone is raving about this collection.

Ashley Avatar

Despite the -hideous- and downright scary promo pictures (which kind of embody what people do NOT want to look like…..), the actual products look amazing. The colors look lovely and although bright, mostly pretty wearable looking. The lighter blue eyeshadow looks amazing. The skinfinishes look great. Even the nail laquers (for nude / neutral looks) look interesting. On the product side, wonderful job, MAC and Cindy Sherman.
Again, on the promos, I realize this lady is an artist, but my goodness! I spent a few seconds starting at the promo pictures trying to understand what she’s trying to do here before I was finally freaked out enough. I think “To the Beach” and “Quite Cute” were examples of promo art well-done.

D Avatar

Please forgive me if im wrong BUT is this a joke? I mean i know its not April Fools so whats going on.Did someone a M.A.C. let there 2 year old design this Campaign! As i scrolled down to see the rest of the promo shots i thought oh somebodys having a laugh, this has got to be a joke!So i kept scrolling to the end so i would see the,”WE GOT YOU,HAHA” line at the end of the article.BUT to my shock there was nothing lol I feel like im in a MakeUp Artists Twist of the Twilight Zone.I get the “We Are the Artist and We Can Create Anything” Etc But if i seen somebody walking down the street even NY and LA im running in the opposite direction. If i offend anyone im very sorry.Im just expressing my thoughts on this lol.Have a lovely night everyone 🙂 Or Day,depending on where you are in the world.

D Avatar

Oops! I just realized all my errors.Im sorry! But besides my bad grammar which im sure you will understand anyway in spite of words being typed incorrectly the one thing i did want to fix or point out is my statement where i mention NY and LA.So what i had meant was if i seen somebody walking towards me with a face made up like any of these promo shots then i would run the other way!HaHa Even in NY or LA where is more acceptable to be outrageous lol

Amy Avatar

Do you enjoy looking at the same kind of promo pics over and over again? Pretty girl, pretty girl, pretty girl. And then people complain that nothing is interesting anymore, it’s just overly airbrushed models that nobody will ever look like.

And then a cosmetics company has the balls to do something daring and artistic and weird and disturbing and you complain that it’s “too ugly”? Who cares? Art isn’t always beautiful. A lot of the most famous paintings in the world are unsettling and “ugly”. That’s what makes them interesting. And if you’re complaining about the imagery, you must not have ever seen Cindy Sherman’s work, because this is EXACTLY what I expected the ads to look like.

“WAAAH IT’S TOO SUMMERY FOR FALL!” Well,

A. It’s not fall for everyone
B. There are several other typical fall collections for you to take your picks from
C. Not everyone follows trends

Ashley Avatar

You have to admit…Surf Baby did not have “pretty” promo art. Their promo art is not always pretty. It’s sometimes daring.
That said, I do think this is a bit too much….Clowns and makeup of this sort are usually not something we want to mix.

marcy Avatar

um…. that promo photo is slightly terrifying and gross… is that a rubber mask or just 10 pounds of makeup on her face????????

Carie Avatar

Pink Fade, Orange Tempera, and Porcelain Pink will be mine! I like the color of Oyster Shell, but it seems easily dupeable, so I’ll probably just get a grey from another brand at a different time.

Mary Avatar

I loooooove the bright colours, however the promo shots just aren’t doing it for me… lol I will probably end up buying, like, EVERYTHING. I love bright colours so much!

brittany Avatar

im sorry mac but those pictures for this collection are freakin horrid and scary. Is this suppose to make me want to by make up from this collection?

brittany Avatar

oh and the last picture with the girl reminds me of the cheshire cat for some reason? Anyway i’ve never seen mac come out with pigments in their collections before so thats kind of exciting. So the pigments, bight lipstick and lip glosses are definitely catching my attention.

Kathleen Avatar

ughhh!!!! i love all these collections!!! (too much :o) Good thing it comes out the day before my b-day! i want:
three ring yellow eyeshadow
feline eye kohl (yay)
Lightscapade MSF
Porcelain Pink MSF
Angel Flame Quad
MY WALLET IS NOT HAPPYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Jennifer Avatar

Re: “The promo pics are terrifying/ugly.” Google Cindy Sherman. 😉

The heart of MAC is artistry. Take a little time to enrich your day and find out who this artist is. I didn’t know her before but now that I’ve seen some of her work, I’m intrigued. And grateful to have been introduced by my favorite cosmetics brand.

tracy Avatar

those photos are hideous, street walkers and clowns dont encourage me to buy make up. i havnt heard of the lady and im not insulting her but to me thats what the make up reminds me of.

Yumi Avatar

promo pics are scary, but i’m biased, clowns freak me out.
kinda disappointed that it just seems to be a lot of PRO products and repromotes. i think lightscapade is the only redeemer for me.

Jo Avatar

Those pictures are so awesome. What a breath of fresh air!! I swear for the past several years I felt like Mac has been making desperate collabs like with Hello Kitty, Barbie, Wonder Woman, etc. Although the products are nice I just think that it gets a customer more excited than an artist. FINALLY, something that is makeup-artist friendly. Hence so many pro products. It’s so nice to see the old Mac delivering the goods. Also just because the woman in the displayer has her makeup done a certain way it doesn’t mean that the buyer has to do the same thing. Use your imagination! Mac is a fashion brand and most of the looks that they do on the runway inspire the displayer looks, trends and aren’t always “everyday makeup friendly.” Clearly the theme is TRANSFORMATION. I love how a mac display of a clown or 80’s jersey girl can shock people. Anytime a artist shocks the viewer, it’s a win! Thank you Cindy Sherman!!

Luisafer Avatar

I thought it seems summery, but now that I think of it, I do wear bright colors in the winter, sometimes though… as long as you feel good :O)

Natalie Avatar

To me, this is an awesome collex. that will give those of us who do not have “easy” access to pro stores the opportunity to try new products, shades and textures. The promo pictures are great! CS as an artist has stretched the infinite boundaries of makeup as the truly transformative medium that it is. I’m sure this is way out of some folks comfort zone but isn’t that what being an artist is all about? Working out of comfort zones, trying to get folks to look outside their boxes and to think and experience life in new ways? Yes, some of the makeup is bright but as someone posted above it is all about that “pop of color” (gosh I dislike that statement). To me, wearing makeup is about highlighting my features but also going that extra mile and blending various shades together to come up with a new shade. It is also about using things in different ways, layering for different effects. Basically, just having a bit of fun with it. That said, I am def. going to check it out when it hits my local store and perhaps I will stumble on something new! I hope MAC will release tutorials or a vid. of how Sherman achieved her looks. That would be so cool!

Cat Avatar

I dont like how theres a bunch of lipsticks available at pro store/repromoted/permanent.
Except for one. It would be more exciting to me with special packaging,

cloudburst Avatar

On one hand I think this is very cool, as I like Sherman’s work (and MAC of course), on the other hand it seems like a hardcore sell out for Sherman!

Melissa Avatar

Cindy Sherman is such an iconic photographer. I’ve loved her work for years. It’s nice to see an original collab. from MAC. All the promo images are out of the norm and the collection itself has a combination of brights and deeper shades. I am going to try my hardest to snap up a Lightscapade when it’s released again.

Sharon M Avatar

I see a lot of things I might want (depending on the reviews and swatches, though!) — definitely a backup for my Show Orchid lipstick, in any case. Some of the pigments and quads look intriguing.

Britney Avatar

I LOOOOOOVE this collection! 🙂 It’s the collection I’ve been waiting for (while still not knowing what I’ve even been waiting for lol)! I’m just getting into Mac (past year or so), so yeah! AMAZING.

Carla Nunes Cantiere Avatar

Oh my God, be adict in makeup make people like this? I’m afraid of be like this, good products, but horrible style. Sorry to say that.

crystal Avatar

what’s up with the black holes in her nose????????????????????????????????????? is that intentional or just bad photoshopping?? i was too distracted by those to check out the make up…

Pan Avatar

This is great. I’m glad they’ve included a bunch of PRO colors, because the PRO stores are too far from me to visit when I want their products. I can’t wait to see eyeshadow swatches too (:

Danni Avatar

This looks completely creepy to me. I don’t really find anything about it appealing. It looks like a 10 year old doing make up on her mom. Gross!

Marcela Avatar

I’ve always wanted Lightscapade and now I will finally be able to get it, I’m so happy I didn’t cave in and bought it for almost $100.00 on EBAY. =-)

Summer Skye Avatar

Holy crap MAC! WTF happened to your Creative team? You went from Heatherette and Barbie to this NOT hot mess. Are you kidding me? This collection could not be uglier. Seriously, what happened to looking cute and pretty? Is it in style to look disturbing and hideous? I am sadly losing faith in the MAC brand. MAC- You need to launch a new theme that is flattering, cute and sexy here ASAP. Your losing me with these vomit inspired colors.

Gwen T. Avatar

I love when people comment on brands, without doing their homework. Summer, MAC was founded on different, irreverent beauty. Sometimes pretty, sometimes scary, its all about the transformatve power of makeup and the art of it. One of MAC’s first spokesmodels was RuPaul in the early 90’s speaking out for AIDS and safe sex, which was extremely taboo then. MAC is pushing the envelope again, and for fans that have loved MAC since the beginnings, it’s so inspiring. Regardless if the images are “sexy” or not, MAC shows they have a little something for everyone. If this color collection isn’t you, wait until the next one 🙂

Jessa Avatar

Holy mother of mac!!! This looks like an amazing collection!! As an artist myself I can relate to the colors and photos Cindy Sherman took to show off her creativity and the make-up. I’m getting just about everything from this collection. 😀

Tasha Avatar

Im so excited to finally get my hands on lightscapade msf. I heard the hype about it but wouldnt spend $100 on it on ebay. Also gonna grab fleshpot l/s and a feline backup. Finally a collection I like lmao…

Gabriella M. Avatar

This collection has some of the best repromotes… Feline, fleshpot, lightscapade… Not to mention some of the other colors look great! My wallet will be shedding tears. Tears of joy, of course 😉

Jessica Avatar

Imma kid/teen and I love mac makeup… But it is super hard to afford as a kid… I will for sure save up for this collection… I love it!!! I am thinking about getting Violetta, Fleshpot, ANOTHER Show Orhcid, maybe a skinfinish, and 2 lipgasses… I can’t pass up this collection… I can pull off very bright pigmented colors even in the fall/winter…. I don’t order makeup offline so I can’t get PRO colors unless I go to the PRO store which is super far away… I CAN’T WAIT!!!

JBaby Avatar

i cant wait to see face charts for this line… i want just about everything thats in it!! I dont know about the rest of the US, but it doesnt get winter here in TX till about November or December….

Kim-Mary Avatar

I can’t wait for this collection!!!! Loving both eye quads, individual shadows, liners, lipsticks (especially that Bright Plum one plus it’s not a re-promote) I have all the other ones except X-S which I am planning on buying this time around also. Can’t wait for swatches.

SkatCat Avatar

Christine, have you heard anything about Cindy Sherman & MAC no longer working together with this collection? Do you know if the colour story will change? I hope not!!! I wanted so many items from this collection. I haven’t read the information myself but it is mentioned on other websites.

Christine Avatar

I haven’t heard anything, though this collection is already finished – as in, I doubt there was much left TO collaborate on other than perhaps promotional aspects. When I did the Bloggers’ Obsessions collection with MAC, they said they usually work 12-18 months in advance of a launch. My guess is the products themselves were finalized much earlier this year and already in production.

SkatCat Avatar

Thank you, Christine! I’m not sure where this other website is getting their information. I’m glad that this collection is going through. So many wonderful items to buy. 🙂

Jayde Avatar

The collection is staying the same, but it is now referred to as “Fall collection” lol as MAC is not allowed to mention someone that rhymes with Bindy Merman…I wonder what happened?!?!?!?!?

Nellie Avatar

MAC has yanked all mention of Cindy Sherman from this collection.

The manager of the counter I frequent told me this today. She was told that they are not allowed to mention Cindy Sherman at all in relation to the collection, which has been renamed “MAC Fall Color.” The memo did not mention any reason why. But they were not told that the collection is canceled, so it sounds like it is still coming out.

But I am guessing all the promo images will be pulled. I would also not be surprised if the collection is delayed if they do that, simply for the logistics of getting new displayers. And MAC isn’t exactly on the ball in terms of letting counters and stores know what’s going on — my counter only found out that Glamgloss was being delayed a couple of days before it was supposed to launch.

Judy Avatar

Tx so much for the information Christine! I was shocked when I heard this rumor. Not sure where it originated from, but I would think it’s kind of late to change the name of a collection when it’s coming out in a month. I had hoped it was a whole new collection coming out when I saw the name. It was MAC Fall collection I believe.

Smidge Avatar

I love most of these shades, but good GOD are the promo photos of her unattractive! They look like she’s not taking this collection seriously at ALL. That’s a shame because it really is a lovely collection.

Ayesha Avatar

YES FELINE! I left mine in a hotel in the Bahamas 🙁 I never realized how much I loved it til then.. been waiting for it to come out again!

Jessica Avatar

Thanks for the pictures! I’m super excited! But I heard this collection was getting canceled… I also heard this collection is now called the Fall collection…I’m confused :/

scrapgalgr Avatar

I first heard of msfs about a month ago (believe me, I don’t live in a cave!). I only managed to get “Rose Quartz” from the Semi-Precious (before it was sold out too), and I can’t wait for new msfs! I prefer them on the shimmery and not on the glittery side thought!

Katt Avatar

Oooo Need backups of lightscapades and porcelain pink… I love them both, and now I don’t have to be so stingy with them anymore if I get backups!
The Ash violet fluidline looks interesting… and I may have to get that one quad just for Chamomille, one of my favorite highlight colors ever!
Most of the other stuff I either already have, or it’s not interesting enough…

Veronica Avatar

I find the makeup in the ads a little overwhelming. I get that they’re going for fun, but it has a bit of a “WHOA” factor to it when you first see it. This being said, it is really nice to see an ad campaign featuring an older woman.

The collection itself, though, is quite pretty. The only real qualms I have about it is that it seems to focus on warm tones with its color choices.

Jilliterate Avatar

They’re changing the name? Seriously? Cripes, tons of people seemed baffled by the promotional photos when Cindy Sherman’s name WAS involved in the collection (I don’t know what was wrong with their googling fingers, but whatever). I can’t image how people are going to “get” the photos now that her name isn’t being mentioned at all….

ellie Avatar

Christine or anyone have you heard anything about MAC sculpting cream? Ive seen it on a few style reports says its coming A/W 11 but i haven’t heard anything else about it or what collection it would be in?!

Lee Avatar

Eh, so much of this collection is either pro permanent or repromotes. I’m excited for Lightscapade and the Angel Flame quad but that’s about it.

Misato-san Avatar

two of my favourite lipsticks (Violetta and Show Orchid) are repromoted here. Love them a lot!
I’m intrigued by tons of stuff… plus there is the Feline in the collection, it’s time for me to try it I guess ;D

jennylevi Avatar

ugly collection way off for fall and a big disappointing in the promo pictures.. Mac could have done better this year in the fall collections

Laura-Lou Avatar

The products look nice and there are definatly quite a few on my “need it” list but the promo pictures are horrendous! Theyre enough to give you nightmares! x

Nella Avatar

Picture is worth a thousand words. If you want to look like a Clown or an old banged/used up prostitute wear these colors. Haha what a joke!… This collection is!

Chrissy Avatar

I agree about the pictures. They are awful! The first one looks like a drag queen. However, drag queens do MUCH better makeup than that. The clown is terrifying. The third pic looks like Cheri Oteri from SNL doing a parody of a crazy teenager. The false lashes are pretty but MAC lashes are way too expensive.

Macaddict Avatar

Thank goodness I already own a lot of these!!!
I am a BIG fan of bright colors!
I will need to complete with more pigments and chromagraphic pencils.

Jill Avatar

Show Orchid, yes!!! I’m so glad to see it back at reg stores. I don’t have a pro store near me so I was iffy about ordering over the phone. I can’t wait to see swatches of the eyeshadows!

Trish Avatar

It’s all about Ash Violet fluidline and Three Ring Yellow e/s for me from this collex. The pigments don’t look too imaginative–I think Sugarpill has better ones.

Jayleen Avatar

I am so excited for this! I wonder why its not the MAC for Cindy Sherman line any more? Oh and please please Christine do a review and swatches on the new Sweet Dreams Makeup Collection from Too Faced that would be so so so amazing! 🙂

amanda Avatar

i had clicked “leave it” because i had thought that there was only the fluidlines/lipsticks.. then i clicked to read replies, realized theres way more, and change my vote.. im kinda glad she isnt involved.. was scaring me a bit.

marcy Avatar

omg… these must be the most freakish, unappealing promo photos i’ve ever seen… especially the creepy nostrils! what the hell was MAC thinking??? LOL!

Jen Avatar

meh…not feeling the mac collections lately…repromotes, permanents and dupes all in one collection again!! when is mac going to move out of the box and make some interesting products instead of repromoting??

i guess lighscapade and porcelin pink MSF’s are worth the look and of course gotta stock up on feline kohl power….everything else is blah blah blah…peach gloss, nude lip, black eyeliner, and a quad full of dupes of permanent e/s.

Sabrina Avatar

I totally want Show Orchid lipstick (if I can pull it off!) and a mineralize skinfinish and maybe a nail polish 😀 Looks like a fun collection!

Angela Avatar

I’m not gonna lie, but I saw the Porcelain Pink MSF at my local CCO. I might just end up Lighscapade instead. “cha-ching!” more money to save in my pocket. =)

Angela Avatar

I guess this is okay for art but this is horrific as a makeup ad. I am all for creativity (I actually liked illamasqua’s toxic nature ads)but my idea of makeup is to enhance or improve appearance. This makeup is aging (it almost looks like tranny makeup) and it doesn’t complement the person’s appearance.

Angela Avatar

I dont think I actually will pick anything up from this collection. At first i was super excited but the more and more i look at it theres nothing special and i dont think the colors are very pratical to wear.

Cassandra Avatar

I cannot wait for this collection, I’ve got my eye on the Neon Orange Lipstick, I’ve been trying to get my hand on that for ages! It’s so difficult to get a hold of it over here in Australia :/

Gina T. Avatar

I wish the displayers came with little hidden cameras so we can watch each person’s reponse to Sherman’s visuals for this collection. I happen to love them! It’s witty, it’s disturbing, it’s awesome. A company called makeup ART cosmetics should incorporate ART into their world. I tire of seeing the same sexy model, glam model, blah, blah, that are typically on beauty ad campaigns. If you want that, shop at Clinique or Bobbi Brown. Sherman’s work has always been genius and made the audience think…congrats MAC! You are taking me back to when I first fell in love with your brand and its edge…seeing a drag queen RuPaul wearing red patent leather, advertising for a lipstick!

jennie Avatar

i cant wait for feline , fleshpot, and one of the msfs. ive been waitng for feline to come out for a couple months. im definitely intrested in the pigments too:)

Zoe Avatar

WTHeck..If I wanted to resemble a CLOWN I would just apply my makeup in pitch blackness and I would STILL come out choosing better colors than this foolery. hated it…

Marily Santiago Avatar

I can’t wait to see the review and swatches of these tomorrow! Today I picked up at MAC from Posh Paradise – Fresh Amour Mattene Lipstick, Nubile Paint Pot, Treasure Hunt Paint Pot, and Imaginary Paint Pot. Thanks to You!!! xo

mumtaza Avatar

Hi Christine!
Happy 5th!!!! Any idea what happened with Cindy Sherman’s involvement in this collection? I have followed this from the beginning and it was the Cindy Sherman collection before, right? Any word on what happened? thanks!
