Dose of Colors Hot Fire & Saváge Matte Liquid Lipsticks Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Hot Fire
Dose of Colors Hot Fire Matte Liquid Lipstick ($16.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a vibrant, medium orange-red with strong, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had opaque color payoff in a single layer, and the color applied beautifully to the lips with smooth, even coverage that made my lips look smoother than they naturally were. The consistency was lightweight, thin but not watery, and easy to work with to spread across the lips, despite the formula drying down pretty quickly. On me, the lipstick stayed on on well for six and a half hours and was neither drying nor hydrating.

Formula Overview
$18.00/0.16 oz. - $112.50 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have a "matte finish" with "rich color" that goes on "smoothly" and is long-wearing. It's a more mousse-like liquid lipstick, which makes it easier to apply and get along the edges without having uneven edges and less color gets pulled into lip lines than with thinner formulas. The dry down is fairly quick, but the finish and formula are forgiving enough to enable touch-ups for any areas that need more coverage.
I did find that they had a pretty strong dry down that had a tendency to emphasize the texture of my lips somewhat, though they appeared drier than they felt, as they were comfortable and non-drying to lightly drying. The wear was good and typically five hours or longer with lighter shades fading faster and deeper shades lingering longer (and staining slightly). The formula has a vanilla scent but no discernible taste.

Hot Fire
LELimited Edition. $18.00.
Saváge
Dose of Colors Saváge Matte Liquid Lipstick ($16.00 for 0.14 oz.) is deep, reddish burgundy with subtle, cool undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was thin without being watery, fluid enough to be spread easily across the lips, and dried down quickly (but wasn’t difficult to maneuver or fix edges while the rest of the layer dried down). It had good pigmentation, though it would take a second layer for full coverage. The color went on evenly for the most part, but again, there were areas where coverage was more even than others and a bit of color pulled into my lip lines as it dried down. The formula was moderately comfortable, non-drying, and lasted for seven hours on me.

I need sunglasses to look at Hot Fire!
Haha!
Wow! Hot Fire looks great on you! Fun shades.
Thank you!
Delightful, both.
Happy to hear it!
Dose of Colors liquid lipsticks are one of my favs. They are really light weight and long lasting and even with the flaws of wearing off a bit quicker than I’d like, they are sooooo comfortable to wear.
What are some of your must-have shades from their liquid lipstick range, Mo?
I LOVE Berry Me and Berry Me 2 and Brick. Any of their darker colors work for me.
Do you find that if they fade you can easily reapply or is it more of completely remove and then apply again kind of formula?
they don’t fade quickly but they do fade in the center a bit but they are buildable and can add another layer on top without that heavy feeling. I usually have to reapply mid day and that’s after coffee and lunch so it holds up pretty good.
**side note -What can be buildable with many layers is NARS new velvet matte lip. I can pack on 4 layers and it will still be as light as a feather.
Thanks for replying! I’ve been eyeing a lot of the NARS velvet mattes since seeing Jackie Aina’s video so thanks for giving me, in my mind, further permission to purchase lol.
Get them!! I’ve never been a Nars fan but i have 3 colors and will get more. They are the most light weight, non drying literally PERFECT liquid lipsticks ever. They got the formula right. Altho depending on the color they may be patchy BUT…BUT that’s ok bcus they layer just fine. Try them out and let me know what you think
This is so nice to read that these performed and wore as nicely as they did. Love Hot Fire, but have Lady Danger, so I’m not 100% set on getting it. But I likely will, since it is such a lovely shade!
Saváge is perfect for autumn! It is a must for me!
Happy to hear you’re enjoying Savage!
Such a beautiful color! So sad it’s sold out at the moment.
At least they’re going to restock!
Christine you look great in darn near everything but Hot Fire is HOT HOT HOT on you! Great color!
Aw, thanks a lot, Kim!
Gorgeous shades and I love the Hot Fire one.
They are!
I kind of hope that Dose of Colors makes Saváge permanent as this shade in liquid lipstick formulas is always patchy and/or flaky and this looks like one of the better ones.
Here’s hoping!!
I agree, Warpaint & Unicorns. This would be a great shade for DoC to add to their regular line. I am pretty sure I’ll be buying it once they restock in Sept.
I love both colors but I ordered Hot Fire. I’m wondering when Dose of Colors will send my order. I placed an order with them on August 14th the day of the release and haven’t received anything yet! This is my first time buying from them I hope they send my package soon.
I’m loving Hot Fire! So vivid!
I love how Savage looks and the color is gorgeous! Not in love with the fact that the packaging of the tube doesn’t show the color of the product. That’s going to be a pain if you have a few from the line.
I love these shades! I thought Hot Fire would be my fav, but I like it on you better! But I love Savage (on you and me :P), but that could be my fall love taking over. Dose is my favorite liquid lipsticks, I have almost all of the shades (minus 3- chocolate wasted, desert suede and sand…I’m coming for you guys). I might be Dose biased…
these are both stunning ! it’s been years since i’ve worn a super bright orange-red , but ‘hot fire’ is so tempting !
saváge is more of my comfort zone . ?
what are you wearing on your eyes , btw ?
looks beautiful paired with saváge !
My first reaction was to how bright Hot Fire looks! Then I realized I have two of the dupes on the list: MAC Lady Danger and Maybelline Craving Coral, and I like how both of those shades look on me. So I don’t need Hot Fire, but it really is a pretty and fun color.
Saváge is amazing. I think Train Bleu is probably better for my coloring though.
Here’s hoping you review all the DOC liquid lipsticks for us eventually! I’d love to see your swatches and reviews of them, as I don’t own any but I’ve always wondered if they were worth buying!
