I’ve been using a lot of Tarte’s Shape Tape! When I use it on my face (to conceal a pimple or spot), I usually pat it in with my fingertip and lightly buff with my foundation brush (Real Techniques Expert Face). When I use it underneath my eyes, I use Real Technique’s Setting Brush (small, tapered synthetic brush) to lightly blend it out.

I have been using Tarte Shape Tape and Cle de Peau a lot lately. I like the Shape Tape for its excellent coverage and the Cle de Peau for its natural appearance and less drying under my eyes. I apply both with my Artis brush. I know it seems weird to use the Artis brush but I just dab the concealer where I want it, let it sit for a second and then pounce it with the brush and it blends out beautifully. You can’t let the Shape Tape sit too long or it will dry out but just a bit for it to warm up to your skin. For me, the Tarte Shape Tape works best when only a very small amount is applied. When I see how some beauty gurus apply it I cringe as it is so pigmented and it is unnecessary to add that much. For my mature skin that is a recipe for disaster.
I agree Deborah ! I always cringe when I see you tubers use shape tape. Ahah. I use it every day under my eyes, and I do three dots under my eyes. And if I need more I do one more dot.
I could never imagine using as much concealer they do!
I have a couple. The one I’m MOST into lately is the NARS Velvet Matte concealer (mainly as it works best with my NARS Tinted Moisturizer which has been my go-to foundation). I get some on a Zoeva 142 Concealer Buffer and either dab that on the back of my hand and use my fingers (thus avoiding sticking my fingers into the pot) or I apply it directly to my face with the brush if I’m using a heavier hand. I’ve also been going for either the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer or Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer for my undereyes if I’m doing more than the barest base, using the NARS one on cooler days and the UD one on hotter ones as it’s lighterweight.
I literally just last night bought that supposed dupe for the Nars concealer by Maybelline, Fit Me in Medium which does look quite a lot like Nars Honey. And I think I like it! It really does seem pretty close. I dabbed a few teeny dots under my eyes and smoothed it out gently with my ring fingers. For spot concealing, I put some on my ring fingertip and dabbed it on a few blemishes and red areas.
I love Maybelline Fit Me – it’s not as much coverage as the Nars radiant creamy but blends better IMO. It’s my go to for every day.
I hope it works for you. I bought the lightest as a dupe for NARS Creamy in vanilla since I had been using it as foundation which could get pricey. I liked the color and coverage but it didn’t wear well in the Arizona heat. 🙁 i kept for winter tho.
I’m using Clarins Instant Concealer. I first dab it under the eyes with my fingertips, then buff it with Elf Flawless Concealer Brush (best $3 I ever spent!)
It Cosmetics Bye Bye under eye Concealer!!!! Got it over the weekend and I know I’m late to the party. I looooove the dewy finish it leaves. I warm it up with my two ring fingers and tap tap tap. I am obsessed. I was using a Maybelline concealer and the Nars radiant concealer before but feel like forgetting them now haha.
Mac pro longwear is my favourite and I blend out always with my beauty blender.
For concealers, I go back and forth among a few – IT BBU, Cargo Blu-ray, MAC Pro Longwear and Clarins. To apply, though, I always use a now discontinued cream eyeshadow brush from Sephora – the #28 Pro Cream Shadow Brush. I’m so glad I have several of these because it’s also great for cream shadows (especially the Chanel Illusion d’ombre ones) but it’s the most fabulous brush for concealer. Basically, it’s a smaller version of their #57 Pro Airbrush Concealer Brush and fits much better in my under-eye area. I wish they would bring it back.
I have the #57 and wish it came in a smaller size. I must have overlooked the #28 when it was available. We should ask Sephora to bring it back. Bet we’re not alone on this one. 🙂
Anne, I think they’ve recently come out with a new concealer brush and I have the sneaking suspicion that it might be the #28 “reinvented” as a concealer brush (rather than labelling it a cream shadow brush). I need to remember to take my 28 in the next time I’m there just to compare them. I have 2 of them and had my husband shave off the long handle on one of them because I’m short-sighted and need to get up close to the mirror to do my concealer. The long handle was making it difficult but having the end cut off makes it perfect.
Thanks for the info! I’m interested in that ‘reinvented’ one, if it’s like the 57, but smaller. They really shouldn’t have called the 28 a shadow brush imo, given the shape. Oh well, I’ll look for it. thanks! I, too, have shaved off very long handles for the very same reason. But, I don’t like long handles anyway!
The Maybelline Fit Me Concealer, even though it is not perfect for concealing blemishes. And I just use my fingers.
It Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye, which I have admittedly had a bit of a love/hate relationship with. I recently repurchased so I guess I’m leaning “love” for now, ha. I dispense a tiny bit onto my left hand and use my ring finger to apply and blend because it’s SO thick, the extra warmth is absolutely necessary to get it to spread well!
I use the maybelline fit me concealer. Sometimes i blend it with the real techniques concealer brush but most of the time i use a beauty blender because it is quick and it gives a beautiful finish!
NARS creamy concealer for blemishes (has a doe foot applicator, I’ll tap and blend edges with fingers); YSL éclat touche (original formulation) for under eye (brush applicator, I’ll blend with fingers), and MUFE full cover for red areas (apply and blend with fingers). I have more concealers than I have foundations; yeesh
Currently, I am quite content with Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer in Macadamia topped off with a little Nudestix in Light ( 2 or 3, can’t remember). I apply with my fingers. Never could get used to using anything but for concealer.
It Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye Concealer- it’s opaque, moisturizing, conceals fine lines as well as dark circles, and lasts all day through heat, humidity, and even Monsoon rains.
I apply a tiny dab to the cback of my hand & pat it into place with my ring finger.
Nars soft matte for under eyes. Maybelline fit me or MAC pro longwear for elsewhere.
My current go to concealer routine is NYX under eye corrector in medium patted into my inner corners with my clean fingers, then I do three dots of tarte shape tape under my eyes, then I tap that out with a flat paddle foundation brush!
I then take a highlighting fluffy brush, and I roll loose powder under my eyes to set!
Cover FX cream concealer for under my eyes and spots. I tap it on with my fingers under my eyes and also use my fingers to blend. For spots I use the $1 e.l.f. concealer brush to tap it on and then tap with my finger to blend the edges. Occasionally I use powder to set it. I sometimes use concealer on my eyelids when they get very red and there I use a theatrical one from Kryolan. I used to use the Kryolan exclusively because of its coverage but the texture is too heavy now that I I have so many fine lines.
I have an IT double ended brush I got on evil bay one end for buffing foundation other end for concealer. I use IT Bye Bye Concealer in the lightest shade and also use it for a bit of contouring. Bought it on Christine’s recommendation and quite happy with it.
Would love to get one closer to my skin shade for those more natural days.
The 5 shade RCMA foundation palette is my current favorite. I’m using the KA-1 to Ka-4 palette, and while it takes some practice to use it correctly, the result is worth it. To mask redness, I mix a dot of green corrector with a bit of the RCMA foundation and lightly apply it to areas of redness with a pointed foundation brush. While that sets, I scoop out a bit of the RCMA foundation from the palette, soften it up a bit and then, using the pointed foundation brush, dot the foundation on spots and over the areas where I used the greenish tinged concealer. Then blend wth a sponge or one of those mermaid brushes I got at TJMax.

I’ve been going back and forth between Urban Decay Naked Skin and Nars Creamy Radient. I only really cover my dark circles, so I color-correct with the Sephora Bright Future corrector in Peach then put concealer over it. I usually use my fingers, but realized that a brush doesn’t sheet things out like my fingers do. Talk about an a-ha moment there.
You’ve all convinced me to try Shape Tape, though. I didn’t want to admit I wanted it but, now I REALLY do.
Kate, I have used both the UD Naked Skin and the Nars Creamy Radiant and I do like both but I started using the Tarte Shape Tape and I have to say, I like it better. The formula is great. The applicator is way too big and pulls too much product but I take a small amount onto my palette or clean hand and then apply. Whatever you think you need, halve or quarter that to begin with. It is one of those concealers that you only need a miniscule amount. Most of the people who say they don’t like it are using too much. Makeup is such a personal thing and everyone is different but you should try it. I don’t know where you live but you can get a sample if you are in the states.

As I age, my needs for an undereye concealer are changing. I loved Cle de Peau’s concealer in beige, but due to its thickness, it shifts from looking wonderful to creasing after four or so hours. For the past year or so, I have been looking for a thin concealer that absorbs and doesn’t crease. Armani Master Corrector in pink and Armani High Precision Retouch Concealer #2 are working beautifully on my NW 15 skin. My latest challenge is finding a powder to put over the concealer that will prevent panda eyes without caking. It’s all about balance.
I rarely use concealer. If I just need to cover one or two zits and not use full-coverage foundation, I really like Sephora Collection Bright Future Gel Serum Concealer in Barvarian Cream. It’s a perfect shade match for me and gives excellent coverage. It doesn’t melt off my oily skin. I just pat it over the spot and blend out with my ring finger.
I’ve been using just a dot of that opaque L’oreal foundation as concealer. It doesn’t take much and it lasts all day with NO creasing or collecting in fine lines under my eyes. The price is good, too.
I’ve been using NARS RCC. I used to like Lancome ones but they broke me out after a few years of loyalty.
Another one for Cle de Peau. I can use it anywhere on my face and with any foundation and it just blends beautifully. I use my finders for the most part, but I also have CdP concealer brushes that I like if need one. My other go to is the Armani Precision Retouch if I want to work in a small area or need a liquid instead of cream.
I usually just conceal under my eyes and for that I use my fingers and pat in the Giorgio Armani Master Corrector in #1 in the inner corner. Then I’ll dot on the Urban Decay Naked Skin (also use the Bare Minerals Serum concealer when I want lighter coverage) and pat out with ring finger. Finish with a final beauty sponge blend.
Lately I’ve also been using the Smashbox Undereye primer. I think it has been helping my undereye area stay moisturized.
I’ve been using Tarte’s Shape Tape in medium for a while – though I think it’s time to switch it up. So today when I get off I’m gonna pick up a new concealer – not sure which one yet.
When I apply I use the wand it comes with and pat with a damp Real Technique’s Beauty Sponge (hope that’s the correct name). I’ve tried using a brush, but it always comes out patchy.
