What are you not looking for in a foundation?

While I don’t mind sheerer coverage and see the need for it to exist, it’s usually not what I’m personally looking for (I’m more likely to go bare). I don’t like really dewy or luminous finishes on my skin. I prefer foundations to be fragrance-free so heavily scented foundations aren’t my favorites. I don’t need my foundation to do a lot of extra stuff re: skincare (like anti-aging).

I don’t like feeling like I’m wearing foundation. I don’t want it to be heavy or to crease or streak midday. Don’t like feeling sticky. And a noticeable scent is a turn off. SPF is necessary though

I’ll be brutally honest, my complexion sucks. Old acne scarring, melasma, occasional breakouts, red blotches. So nothing sheer, because even most medium coverage formulas are going to cut it for me. Nor do I want heavy, cakey stuff that makes me think of spackle, either. Nothing greasy that pools into my pores and expression lines. And for the love of all that’s holy, NO fragrance or perfume, please!

I do not look for full coverage or matte finish foundation. No to heavy on the silicone feel and especialy not if they have lots of unfriendly skin ingredients and things like mineral oil and any token skin care ingredients that will do nothing whilst being dimethicone laden. I do not need it to be scented, worst (make up for ever and YSL)…. Also for it to be so expensive and or Hard to purchase.

I look for light to medium coverage, silky creamy texture and for it to look like healthy skin. I love a dewy luminous or satin finish and that it lasts on skin through a whole day. If i could find this with a natural ingredient base and with skincare benefits, that would be a dream! I also prefer scent free. And most importantly it must be a colour match! Pale olive skin nc15, very rare to find in western market. So far my absolute favorites are Koh gen Do Aqua Foundatin #213, Shiseido Synchro Skin & Synchro Glow, Tom Ford traceless foundation and By Terry Sheer cover expert. Special metion to Shu Uemura, but they keep discontinuing so many over the years. I also LoVe Chantecaille & Ellis Faas but….they do not have anything suitable for my skin shade!

No added fragrance – I don’t understand why there would be anyways. I don’t really need any added skincare benefits either as well as matte foundations nor full-coverage.

I do not like fragrance in my foundation either, I also don’t really care for spf in it, I use my own spf underneath. If I want to wear the foundation in the evening or indoors, I don’t need spf and my pictures turn out better this way.

Again, I’m just happy to find a shade to match… SPF can be worn under, I can sheer out a heavy foundation (or add concealer and/or powder for more coverage), and use a powder to mattify or add luminosity. I can even “lighten” a foundation that’s too dark. However, finding a shade that is truly neutral is a task, as most brands think neutral=peach…

For myself, I am looking for a buildable foundation that does not become cakey with building the coverage. I don’t want added fragrance although I would prefer a fragrance to something that smells chemical in nature. I do like multi-tasking ingredients so if there is skin care then I am happy but I don’t need it if it isn’t going to work. I am a fairly straight forward color match as long as they offer a super pale option. My daughter, however, is mixed. Her father is Native American and African American. Most foundations for deeper skin tones assume that the undertone is orange and she is very neutral. She also needs high coverage. She loves the Remarcable Foundation but even mixing shades she cannot get a match. She is always having to compromise on finding a match. Her closest color match is the Armani Power Fabric foundation in #6 but it is not full coverage, even with attempting to build. We are currently trying to mix a little Remarkable with the Armani to see if we can keep a decent color match and increase the coverage a little bit.

I personally prefer a sheer to medium foundation with a natural, even, luminous finish. I want my skin to look like skin, not a mask of makeup. So, I don’t want a foundation that is heavy, full coverage, or a matte finish. I wear SPF 32 on my face every day, so if a foundation has SPF in it great, if not then it’s not a deal breaker. I also prefer oil-free products, but a small amount of oil isn’t a deal breaker either. I also don’t want something that will bead up and flake/not adhere well to my skin so it has to work well with my skincare – changing that is not an option!

I’m in the anti-full coverage and matte group. I don’t need the coverage (thankfully) and I prefer a dewy finish, so I stay away from matte – though I can see when it would be useful. Like almost everyone else I abhor scent in my face products and see no purpose in adding it to something that will sit on my skin.

My skin is very oily so unfortunately I can’t wear anything dewy, radiant, or youth-boosting. I also HATE anything that looks or feels heavy, and I don’t want anything sheer because I have a lot of redness and acne that I need to conceal. And ironically I get dry patches on my cheeks so I need something that doesn’t emphasize those either. I’m just a mess.

Anybody got any recs for a good foundation for me? I’m still searching for my HG 🙁

I don’t like heavy coverage, thick or greasy feeling foundation. I don’t like highly pigmented foundation as they all, even high-end seem to want to turn orange-y after 6-8 hours. No sparkles, no glitter and I especially dislike fragrance in foundation!

Because I’m so pale and only buy CF, I’m limited in my options (I know I can get a white mixer but…bah, effort). I need it to be dry-and-sensitive skin friendly. Dewy finish is preferred but natural/satin is okay, I just don’t want it to be matte. I want to feel like I’m not wearing anything, or as close to that as possible. I like light coverage, but I consider it a bonus if it is buildable. I want my makeup to withstand high humidity and workouts. I don’t expect the foundation to do that on its own, but I do look for lasting power and don’t want to have to set *everything*. Whether it has spf or not doesn’t matter too much because I will wear sunscreen underneath either way; I just don’t want flash-back.

I have great skin and don’t like a heavy, sticky feeling. I wear minimal amount and spread with my small square sponge blender from nose toward both sides of my face and up to hair line, down to my chin and neck area which will be seen also with spf. I have combination normal/dry skin I do like a dewey foundation but no disco ball either otherwise I’ll lightly tap it with a thin power. I really like L’Oréal True Match Lumi (glass jar) and Infallible Pro Glo. I’m pale/cool toned so I usually wear first two colors of the row. Another I enjoyed was Cover Girl Clean both gives me a nice natural coverage. I tried Revlon Age Defying DNA and find it too full coverage. Wouldn’t say is bad is just too much for me. Body Shop is great also forcfull coverage applies smoothly! I don’t like heavy makeup feeling like a mask and never wear it to exercise only my spf and Chapstick I’m a runner my best defense are those two. I do wear a lightly touch of blush like Physicians Formula which is so light colored sometimes when I’m most pale like an African frog. Lol!

I’m really never looking for full coverage, and almost never looking for medium. I don’t like flat, matte finishes. Texture wise, I prefer liquid foundations that aren’t super runny but also aren’t thick and creamy. Scented is no-no as well (my skin isn’t overly sensitive, but it is a little bit). Most things like skin care, SPF, etc. are negotiable. And while this is more from a brand standpoint than a product one, I don’t buy non-cruelty free makeup anymore 🙂

I am not a fan of really dewy or luminous finishes, I prefer unscented makeup, and I don’t like full coverage for myself. I don’t like being able to feel the foundation on my face or the overly-done up look as well.
