Chanel Taffeta Rose Rouge Coco Lipstick
Chanel Cote d’Azur: Taffeta Rose
Chanel Taffeta Rose (16) Rouge Coco Lipstick ($30.00 for 0.12 oz.) is brightened dark pink with subtle fuchsia micro-shimmer. It is shade from Chanel’s Cote d’Azur Collection. The finish has a frostiness that’s not overwhelming but more noticeable here than in other Rouge Cocos. I also felt like this one emphasized even the most minute imperfections on the lips.
Rouge Coco is a slightly drier formula, because most of the shades are frost finishes, but I don’t find it drying–it’s just not moisturizing. It has a light vanilla-rose scent that’s rather faint but still detectable. It doesn’t seem to linger, though. On average, Rouge Cocos last four hours on me. I like the formula overall, and the shade range tends to be very wearable with a wide variety of colors from pinks to browns to reds. Pigmentation ranges from semi-sheer to semi-opaque, with a few shades being quite opaque and a couple on the sheerer side.
P.S. — I’m wearing Benefit Sugarbomb blush on cheeks.

FINAL THOUGHTS: The Rouge Coco formula is most suitable for those with relatively healthy lips; if your lips are dry and cracking, I would recommend opting for a more moisturizing formula (perhaps Rouge Allure, if you want to stay within Chanel). Taffeta Rose would suit both cool and warmer skin tones, because while it is slightly cool, it doesn’t pull too blue.

Too bad it looks a little dry…the color is actually very pretty!
I just wanted to tell you I bought Coquette and I’m in LOVEEEEE!!
The Rouge Allure formula really is amazing! I don’t regret buying more high-end
lipsticks like Chanel and Guerlain because I think you’re right…you really do pay
for quality!
Yay, yay!! At the end of the day, it’s all about what works for you and what you love.
This is a fabulous color on you, Christine! I’m going to buy it tomorrow, if it’s available at my local Chanel along with the new spring products that are just being unpacked today here in Toronto. I’m looking forward to the new lip shades and the nail colors in the light pearl shade and peach. Don’t know about the black one for spring, what is your take on this?
As far as I know, it’s a chanel.com exclusive (that’s where I got mine – I believe the entire Cote d’Azur collection is just online).
I like the Black Pearl shade, but I’m not loving it 100%! Lots of gray for spring this year.
This one is my signature – and favorite – color.
I don’t think this is limited edition, though, and it should be available at counters. I got mine at my Nordstrom Chanel counter in November and all three SA’s I have talked to have told me that isn’t LE, contrary to what the website says. Hoping it stays around, in any case!
This color was released with the original launch in February 2010 (you may have arm swatches in your 2/25/10 post). I believe this color is perm…
Thanks, Amy — Chanel lists it as limited edition! I also couldn’t find it on Nordstrom’s website…
I’m not in love with Nordstrom’s redesigned site, I must say. It’s up at item # 289512. The swatch for Taffetas Rose is deep brown. It’s in a rough alpha order. Take care and enjoy! It’s a beautiful color.
So interesting – I usually just do a search to find things but nothing turned up. Thanks!
Taffeta Rose isn’t limited edition or new…dunno why Chanel is saying differently. 😉
I love the rouge coco formula ! And this color is just gorgeous. I just wish Chanel would lower the price tag slightly, $30 for a lipstick is kind of a big splurge iieeep
I’m dying for the chanel spring collection but its not out here til the 28th January!
this color is beautiful!
I am the opposite. I have dry lips but the Rouge Coco formula suits me better…
I know, I am strange!
it is a bit of a boring colour, no?
Ooh! Thanks for posting this, Christine. I’ve picked up a couple of Rouge Coco’s and this was a shade I was interested in trying. Looks beautiful!
Hi precious! Can u Please tell me what day is Sephora selling Hello Kitty? I know its at the end of this month but do you know the exact day? Sorry for putting here the question…
K&H
I haven’t not heard an exact date. I just received a press release this morning on the launch, but it just says January 2011.
VERY VERY PRETTY-
The swatch on this one is very pretty but i wouldn’t buy it for $30. I’ve bought a nars listpick for $24 (it was worth it though!! I bought Sciap) but I won’t do $30, rather go buy an outfit.
Do you have any clue why Chanel has raised their prices now?
I went to my local counter today, and the nail polish was now 25 per bottle, and the glossimer was 28.50…was there any press information about prices being raised in the new year that you know of, or is it just for the spring collection? 🙁
No, brands don’t announce those, haha. I imagine it’s part of the course of business – most brands raise prices on an annual basis!
I believe the polishes may be just this launch, though. Not 100% sure.
Nope, it’s just a general price increase, not one special for this collection. I bought from the spring collection before Christmas, and I paid $27 for a glossimer, $30 for a lipstick and $23 for a nail polish. Those prices were also on the Chanel.com when the collection launched but then went up shortly after the new year.
HAD THIS 8 MONTHS AGO..NICE COLOR…LINE IT WITH MAC BEET LIP LINER….THAT MAKES THIS COLOR MORE POPPIN…THEN THE PIC SHOWIN!!! HOLLA
Yes, Taffetas Rose is not new or limited edition, but was one of the launch Rouge Cocos. None of the Cote d’Azur lipsticks are new — Sari Dore, for example, was the Asia exclusive during the Rouge Coco launch.
This looks really pretty on you!
love the color on you!
I bought RC Taffetas Rose (it says in the box Taffetas Rose) when it became available last year, and it is fabulous! Its long-lasting and wears evenly. It almost gives a “red lipstick” look that is more sophisticated, in my opinion. It is a very dark pink color that gives that kind of almost “red” that you can wear at a corporate meeting and then also take you out at night. One swipe gives enough opacity and its not really drying, for me I would say its very lightweight, as though I did’nt put any lipstick on, particularly for this Rouge Coco color.
I love your reviews Christine, your site is really helpful.
