Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencils Review, Photos, Swatches
Urban Decay 24/7 Lip Pencils: Illegal, Midnight Cowboy
Urban Decay Spring 2011: Lip Pencils
Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencils ($17.00 for 0.04 oz.) is releasing two new shades for spring: Illegal (barely-there rosy nude) and Midnight Cowboy (deep nude). The information I have indicates that these will retail for $18, but the other Lip Pencils are currently available for $17, which makes me think this is a price increase going forward starting in January.
- Illegal is a medium-dark rosy brown. It’s nude, but it’s not really what I think of nude (which tends to be a paler beige). It is, however, a shade that will flatter most natural lip colors, especially those with some pink.
- Midnight Cowboy is a medium-dark brown with a hint of mauve. Similar, this is a good shade for an allover lip color base. It would also work to darker your favorite beige lipstick or neutralize some of your other ones.
Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencils are really creamy, glide on like a dream, and wear well. They are some of the more comfortable lip pencils to use, because they don’t tug at all.
If you want to know more about how products are evaluated, read out Rating System FAQ! 🙂
- Product: 29/30
- Value: 8/10
- Ease of Use: 4/5
- Packaging: 4/5
RECOMMENDATION: If you are looking for a nice lip liner that will neutralize or even out your natural lip color, I think both of these will work nicely.

Love it !!
These, look so pretty, and sound amazing too!
I’ve wanted to try UD lip pencils for a while now. Knowing that there may be a price increase, I could be doing that sooner rather than later.
Out of curiosity, what lost these the point off the ‘Product’ rating?
I only reserve full point scores for products that are absolutely, positively perfect that go above and beyond – it’s that part of a product that’s hard to quantify.
Thank you! I’ve been looking at the scores individually, and have noticed a lot of 4/5s and 29/30s on A- products and couldn’t help but ask. That makes a lot of sense. =]
Yep! 🙂 I don’t give out very many As or A+s – it’s like it has to be REALLY amazing/great/fantastic to get there. Personally, I find that a lot of beauty products are decent, a good amount that are good, more than few are great, but PERFECTION! is not so easily attained.
Just by looking at the pencils, they look like they glide on effortlessly.
i really need a good neutral lip pencil
my smashbox one is getting dry
i think ill pick up illegal, looks beautiful
these colours look almost identical to me. they also look too creamy for lip liner, i like a dryer formula that won’t melt into the lipstick/lipgloss that i layer over top. might be worth a try, but i personally have never found much of a difference between cheepo lip liner pencils and higher-end ones.
I wish UD would stop naming EVERY colour “Midnight Cowboy”.
It gets hard to differentiate, especially if you’re not a hardcore UD fan. Really, a little originality wouldn’t be hard ;D
TBH, while I get that Midnight Cowboy is kind of a nude shade, I was thinking it was going to be more golden… almost not really a “normal” lip liner, haha.
I will most likely pick up Illegal, it’s very pretty!
Hi!! What about Perversion?? Is it going to be permanent?? x
I love creamy, easily applied lip liners more than lip sticks. I’ll definitely be trying these 2 new shades 🙂
These are probably the best lip liners in the market today!!! I am so excited. I prefer these over all others.
That isn’t a Midnight Cowboy shade at all, lol… and they seem a bit redundant.
I could care less that they called it Midnight Cowboy again lol its just a name people!
I love love love these colors i hope you use them in a look soon Christine =] Im glad UD released these colors, maybe more people will be tempted to stray from the same ole pale pink lipstick you see all the time which can get pretty boring, to me at least.
They look awesome. NYX has a lot of similar colors though for a fraction of a price.
I personally like how UD keeps shades the same across their products. Clinique does it to some extent with their foundations and it makes it really easy to pick out, say, a pressed powder to match your liquid foundation. Looking at the Midnight Cowboy shadow, shadow pencil, eye liner, Lip Junkie, lipstick, etc., MC seems to equal beige with silver glitter. I don’t see how they justify calling this rosy rose Midnight Cowboy. A lot of UD’s recent product decisions haven’t made any sense to me. Either way they’re cranking out top of the line formulas, so I guess I’ll get over it.
I believe they are calling it MC because it is intended to be worn either as a liner for the midnight cowboy lipstick, or a base for the midnight cowboy gloss. If they made it look champagne and sparkly it would be useless as a liner.
I’ve noticed that you’re not doing cheek/lip swatches in your recent reviews..
I know they’re more time consuming, but could you please start doing them again?
They’re really helpful!
Hi Christina,
I’m just trying to clear out a lot of products I have swatched/photographed – I have around 10,000 photos I’ve taken but haven’t had time to go through. I will certainly do it when and where possible, but based on reader feedback, readers are OK with shorter/quick reviews with skin swatches. I haven’t stopped — I’m just clearing out products I have no intention to do more with at this time, but instead of deleting the images and swatches, I’m trying to do what I can to still give you something rather than nothing.
I’m interested but the two shades look too similar. Also, Urban Decay is killing “Midnight Cowboy.” Can’t they come up with other names for their products?
Would these be good on lips that are on the dry side?
I think they would be fine!
Has anyone tried any of the new colors? Are they worth the money? Love the idea of blacker than black perversion
