Sneak Peek: Tom Ford Lip Contour Duos Photos & Swatches

Tom Ford Lip Contour Duos
Tom Ford Lip Contour Duos

Tom Ford Lip Contour Duo ($53.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a two-in-one product that features a Lip Color and Lip Shaper. I’ve already tested most of these, but I’m trying to focus on holiday reviews at the moment – I did manage to add all the products, photos, swatches into the gallery, though, so I can share those with you. Overall, the lipstick portion is nice–very creamy–but the lip liner is terrible: dry, patchy, draggy, and breaks off extremely easily. Whether lining just the edge of the lips or filling them in entirely, the Lip Shapers were frustrating to use, and at this price point, the last thing I want is the lip liner snapping every time I use it, because it is so dry and brittle. It is also strange that the liners have sparkle in them, as it makes the surface more uneven, and it is odd to have a few sparkles on the edge of your lips (if you aren’t filling them in).

The photos below show the two products layered, and then each color separately. Since there is no layered swatch on the skin, the product photos are repeating (apologies!).

I have fling it on, I love the lipstick, don’t like the pencil, it seems to be even paler than the swatch presented in your review, so not good. My pencil hasn’t broken so far, but it’s not getting much use, other than to highlight sometimes my Cupid’s bow, and I don’t think I’m that good of a make up artist to really do this all the time. Pretty mediocre for Ford, which I think is worse than an epic fail!

Every single shade broke off at least once when I used it. I wasn’t quite expecting that because they actually swatched OK – they did not seem prone to breaking when I was swatching, but it was almost like they immediately started to dry out after once use (swatching on the skin) and became brittler over time.

Such a shame when the lipstick formula is very nice, but how one can mess up lip liner, I am not sure.

I had planned to pick up Public Display based on swatches of the lipstick portion. When I saw these in the store I was really confused about why they decided to include glitter in the liner portion…that does not make any sense to me. A metallic or shimmer liner would make more sense, though would still be less practical than a standard creme.

Oh well money saved! LOL

I have A/W’16, for some reason I only swatched it on the back of my hand. Possibly because all of TF lipsticks are amazing quality. When I got home I realised it does not have pinky or peach undertones, and kinda makes me look sick (I have light medium skin). I’m disappointed because I thought this would be a good on-the-go product. I still use the liner (with a darker nudie peach, Charlotte Tilbury in Penelope Pink). And the lip color with a pinky nude lip liner from CT in Pillow Talk. That combo seems to work. The glitter in the liner doesn’t bother me, in the pale nude it just looks a bit like highlighter (which i already use around my lips).
Not sure if I’d buy another, the other color’s are a bit boring. I rather get a lipstick, or the TF eyeliner.

I WAS pining for “I’ll Teach You” but reading about the negative issues, I am glad I didn’t indulge. I don’t know if I will be able to resist the TF holiday palette, however. For now, I am happy with a couple new Chanel Rouge Allure Inks and anxiously await the arrival of my Anast BH “Mario” eye palette!

I saw these in store, and the amount of product looked really, really tiny. Christine, is that .08 oz for both the lipstick AND lip liner? Also, I don’t want to pay $53 if half of the product (the lip liner) underperforms. I can get decent lip liners for $ 5 each, so I would be paying $ 48 for that lipstick, which doesn’t seem worth it, unless it was a unique color and the formula was exceptional. I’ll be checking your dupes list

I find your experience with the liner surprising. Mine have been fine – no dryness or breaking and I’ve used them since early August. I don’t mind the shimmer in the liner myself; I don’t think it’s very noticeable when the lipstick is applied. I tend to hate more lip liners than I like, so it’s a bit odd. I have no idea who the A/W color is meant for. I can’t see the color working on anyone’s skin coloring. That was an easy pass for me overall.

Not a fan of these – especially is the tip of the lip liner breaks. Money saved. Some of the lipsticks are pretty but the light ones are not very attractive…

As a lover of all things Tom Ford, I was completely prepared to get at least one of these. But as Christine said, the liner is terrible. Truly terrible! Dry, crumbly, completely difficult to work with. So, these are a no-go for me, which is a shame because the lipstick part is nice and there are some good shades here. But as far as value? Nope.

i bought the AW16, show it off & public display & i loved the colors/finishes that they gave & the lasting power of the liners. Show it off was my favorite BUT i was using it almost every week day & i ran out of the liner already…it hadn’t even been a month since i bought it. The liner tip broke too and it wasn’t even out that much but i managed to use it instead of waste it. These are great luxe items to have in your purse but the amount of liner product was disappointing. The lipstick side was fine but i felt it worked better with the liner vs alone.

I bought Secret Escort, a beautiful color, but a horrible product. It completely sucked the moisture out of my lips and made them very patchy and flakey by the end of the day. It wore off around the edges but not the middle, which was really odd. I had bleeding which I rarely get. I like the regular and the matte formulations but this is going back.

Hello,

What is a comparable shade to “Public Display” (Can be of a different brand) I love the color of this 1 on your lips, but doesn’t sound like it would be worth the $.

Thank you,

Ava
