The Everlasting Liquid Lipstick formula is supposed to be long-wearing, have full coverage, and be ultra-matte. This particular shade was created as a limited edition charity shade that will raise money for Project Chimps; 20% of the retail price will benefit the non-profit. The shade launches on August 23rd. Of all the liquid lipsticks on the market, this is definitely one of my favorite formulas, because it’s more comfortable due to the flexible nature of the color. It retains the ultra-matte, transfer-free finish of liquid lipsticks while allowing my lips to move and smile without cracking or tightness. Project Chimps was consistent with past shades, which were true to claims: it had nearly opaque coverage, thin but smooth, spread well across the lips, and lasted for over eight hours (including through meals). It was very slightly drying after six hours of wear.

How does this compare to Anastasia’s Kathryn liquid lipstick? Thanks
Sorry, I don’t have that!
Def in. Only have Temper, and have successfully held back from the dupes….all of them. Chimps charity? Hell, yeah. That sets it a notch above. And I can stop yearning for the others. Win-win.
Perfect! 🙂
I have Nosferatu, so I’m set!
I was surprised (and a little sad, since it does give a portion to charity) that it was as close to two of her existing shades!
I agree. I’m glad she’s donating to % to charity, and I’m sure it’s a worthy cause, but instead of getting another lipstick that’s almost the same color, I’m better off just donating 100% of my money to the charity
It’s a lot closer to Santa sangre on me, I’m sure. Noseferatu’s dupes are less bright and cooler on me. Gotta support that 98% dna similarity…the humans and chimps, not the dupes, lol. Awful glad that I thought to balm before app to prevent shrink wrap. Gave my first Kvd LL away, and then had to repurchase.
Girl, why am I not surprised? Bloody love it. But, when I flicked over to it’s review, I had 5 dupes. Even a l/s ho like me can say no to that. Loved the old German expressionist film, and kvd’s reference. But 5 is overkill. I could wear those 24/7/365.
Cute!
Yay!
Love!
Awesome to hear!
Great color, and I’m glad more money is going to the charity than did with the eyeliner KVD did a while back.
It’s nice that they at least disclosed how much as well – being transparent is so appreciated – and it’s 20% of the selling price, not profits, which is better than what we typically see.
Your skin looks SO amazing here Christine!!
Thanks, Shannon!
It’s gorgeous. Another one for me. 🙂
Hope you love it, Indya!
It’s a pretty shade, but I won’t be hunting it down… I have more than enough red lipstick, but if I happen upon it, I’ll grab it for the cause. If it flies off the shelves, I can be consoled wirh the knowledge that the money I would have spent still went to the charity. That said, given the fact she promoted the sanctuary so hard, and brings up veganism/animal rights at every turn, I’m surprised (and a bit disappointed) at the 20%…
I completely understand! I find charity products are often not as generous as you might expect them to be. At least it’s 20% of the selling price and not just proceeds!
Oh, I am going to HAVE to give this one a mall test-run to see whether or not my lips can handle it. So far, only Ofra and Colourpop Ultimate Satins and one Ultimate Matte have not given my lips issues afterwards. Several months back, I test-drove Lolita. Within just a few hours, my lips felt SO dry! My body chemistry doesn’t seem to cooperate with liquid mattes in most cases. ?
I’m going to guess it won’t work well either 🙁
What I am thinking of doing is something I didn’t try with Lolita; putting MAC Prep & Prime Lips underneath. Just thinly. One coat. And hope for the best.
I have found with Kat Von D one thing that works well for me is to actually layer the matte liquid OVER a more nourishing lipstick in the same color. If done right the matte will still dry down matte and non-transfer but the inner layer seems to act like a shield. So I do Vampira over Nars Olivia and that helps the whole thing stay comfortable AND last longer. I’m surprised I haven’t seen this trick on more blogs. Starting with an oil (a trick I have seen) doesn’t work for the obvious reason it breaks the matte lipstick down and defeats the purpose. But a much less drying lipstick generally does. At least for me.
It may just be an allergy though. I am so glad someone on here mentioned the beeswax allergy so I could finally figure out why a lot of really popular products send me into fits. No Bite lip mask for me!
Since she calls it rusty, I wish it was rustier. It’s rusty ish, but mostly still a bold red. Lovely though, as most of her reds are!
I hear ya, Ginny – it could be a bit deeper and rustier!
Christine, I was wondering if you would tell us the timing of the two pictures of your lips in your review. I assume the first is right after you first put on the shade and the second is to show maybe longevity? Thank you as always.
Hi Shari,
One is in direct light, the second is indirect light.
I’m definitely getting this! Lovely color and good cause!
Enjoy, Kat!
I bought this from sephora today and I love it! It’s a beautiful rusty/brick red.
Oh, nice to hear it’s already in stores!
This looks gorgeous! I wish it was a bit more unique of a shade, though.
I agree!
I’m kinda over the whole matte thing, but the color does look great on you.
Totally understand! 🙂
This color is gorgeous. I may have to get it bc of the charity and give her liquid lipsticks another try. I have two from the past and they just feel so drying on me. More so than most liquid lipsticks I own (which is many! Lol)
If they are more drying on you, I don’t know if this shade will be any better! (ELLs are one of the least drying totally matte liquid lipsticks for me.)
I have Outlaw which is a warm red but this color looks even more wearable than that.
It might be, since it is darker!
I am SO glad I don’t have any liquid-to-matte dupes of this. I just tried Beloved based on your high rating and I love the color and wear! Super excited to add this one into the mix!
Yayyy! ELLs are the most comfy for me, as a liquid lipstick that is 100% transfer-proof. ColourPop’s Ultra Satins wear a lot like liquid lipsticks for me but are more comfortable – they are not transfer-proof, though!
Speaking of those ultra satin lips, I bought Dopey bc you said it wore for like, 12+ hours (I am a slave to your reviews LOL) and it wears so well! Minimal transfer but I love being able to put on KVD, and kiss my arm and see NADA.
I’m still super impressed by the wear and integrity of the Ultra Satins even after many hours of wear (including eating/drinking) given that they aren’t totally matte like the ELLs and similar type products!
But I can understand why people want 100% transfer-proof 😉
Is this going to be sold on Sephora?
Yes, on August 23rd.
Do you know if this will be sold on Sephora Canada?
I’m not sure!
For the record, it is!
(Thanks for this blog, you’re freaking amazing!)
Is this the only shade benefitting the chimps? Red is not everyone’s go-to, yet subscription boxes, charities etc seem to think it is.
As far as I know, it is just one shade.
Where will I be able to purchase this? Sephora?
Yes, Sephora.
Can this product be worn more sheer?
Not really!
How similar is this shade to Kylie’s 22? This looks like it could be a dupe!
Sorry, I don’t have that!
It’s a pretty color, but I almost never wear reds unless they’re dark or very dark. Wouldn’t be worth it, especially since only 20% goes to the cause.
Makes sense!
I think I won’t get this…I have nosferatu and outlaw…Nosferatu wears like brownish-red on me… I pass on this…(this one is even more brownish!!) I wish she produces a more unique color..
I quite like this. If I can I’ll get it. I think, compared to other charity sales it’s a lot more generous to the charity. Some give one or two %.
Interesting – Nosferatu is super dark on me (think vampy blood red) even though I’m NC30-35. I’m a little worried this one will do the same even though it looks like a “natural” red on you. I might give it a go, though. Your review makes the application process sound better than Nosferatu (which is really patchy).
I am so glad I bought this lipstick, OMG!!!! What a wonderful representation of KVD’s ELL formula. I read a review that said their Project Chimps never fully dried to become transfer-proof on their lips, but I did not have that issue. This color is gorgeous on me, and wears impeccably without crumbling or cracking on my lips. This is like, my PERFECT red. I’m probably buying a backup.
Never dried down?! Whoa, I don’t know if I’ve heard that often (or at all!) with the ELL formula. It definitely dries down – it isn’t as fast as some, but it isn’t particularly slow either!
The flex of the ELL formula is what makes it my favorite!
ColourPop’s new ultra matte Mama is an almost exact dupe of this shade.
Love this shade. But are there any affordable dupes? Maybe Exotic from the NYX Lip lingerie line?
Sorry, I don’t have that!
