Chanel Plum Attraction Joues Contraste Blush Review, Photos, Swatches (Fall 2010)
Chanel Plum Attraction Joues Contraste Blush
Strong Cheeks are BACK! for Fall
Given the release of Chanel Plum Attraction Joues Contraste Blush ($42.00 for 0.14 oz.)–a deep red-toned plum-burgundy with subtle golden sheen–we may be seeing stronger color on cheeks this fall. This is a color that will look a little different depending on your skin tone. On cooler skin tones, it’s going to pull a little more plum, while on warmer skin tones, it will pull a little more burgundy. It just has that nuance of undertones that makes it interact with your skin tone in a way that actually works to highlight it.
For those who don’t follow Chanel or rarely stop by the counter, let me tell you a little about what makes these blushes so loved. They are finely-milled, silky smooth powders that apply beautifully on skin. This is not a blush that will look chalky or powdery–it lays down on skin like it belongs there; the shades, no matter their hue, always look natural on cheeks. (Taken from an earlier review.)
It can be worn lightly or built-up for an intense, showstopping cheek, depending on your mood and the look you’re going for. I wore it a couple of days ago with a neutral eye and stronger, vampier lip, and I think it worked out really well. I tend to coordinate cheeks and lips together in a way that’s opposite of the lightness/darkness of my eye look. For example, a dark, smoky eye pairs well with a lighter cheek and lip, while a softer, neutral eye pairs well with a stronger cheek and lip.

RECOMMENDATION: The formula is lovely, with its silky, fine-milled powder feel, and the way it melts on the skin and wears well throughout the day are all positive attributes of the blush. The only downside is the price/quantity ratio. Since it’s a darker shade, it’s definitely something that will appeal to some, not to others, and will be very much based on personal preferences.

oooooooooooooh I want it, but I can NOT pay that much for it! I already weaned myself off their glossimers due to the price, now here comes this blush! *bangs head on keyboard*
LOL!
stunning color and I am all about deeper colors for Fall and Winter. YAY
I adore the colour, but is way too dark for me.
Strong cheeks, shoulder pads, tight pants, the 80’s are back, man! Radical!
I can see how people might not like this, but I think this is absolutely stunning and screams fall, especially when paired with that lip.
I love this Christine. But the price tag is so high. I was wondering if there is something similar out there.
I know MAC did or had a blush called Fever that seemed similar.
hmm this is really dark, but Im so loving it for the winter !
whats the lipstick/lipgloss your wearing?? its beautiful on you!!!

I want… and I’ll get it if I can afford it 😛
some how, you pull off every single thing you try. it’s really quite amazing to see!
Aww, thank you 😛
I’m NC45 and I know I can rock this. Can’t wait!
Agreee!
This wouldn’t work on my fair skin, but it’s gorgeous on you! The lips and cheek colors combined look beautiful with your coloring!
Thank you, Lori!
I think it would be LOVELY! on pale skin, actually!
I picked this up two days ago, and I am an NC15! It is a gorgeous plum, and will look great for Fall applied with my NARS Yachiyo brush. Thank you for featuring this shade Christine. It has been overshadowed by its flashier sister Pink Explosion.
No problem 😉
that colour suits you perfectly!
Thank you, Androgynes!
What are you wearing on your lips? It looks beautiful!

Christine! I love these reviews but you can’t get me addicted to Chanel, that would be terrible! haha seriously though, do you think this is wearable for an NW20? it looks gorgeous but I don’t want to look like I got punched in the face…
Yes, I actually do. When worn subtly, it is beautiful. It may take a couple tries to get it *just* right when you first start working with such a dark blush 🙂
awesome! thanks Christine! Temptalia is the best 🙂
Hi Christine! Do you happen to know the active ingredients in this blush? I’ve been on a perpetual hunt for a blush that doesn’t exacerbate my acne-prone skin 🙁
I don’t 🙁
I adore dark blushes. I may have to check this out.
I saw this in person for the first time yesterday, the SA told me even she has not looked at them up close, so we looked together 🙂 but it was really pretty same with Pink Explosion? I could not test it though unfortunately 🙁
This is perfect for the fall. I’ve never thought of trying a darker blush, but I will put it on my to-do list!
hmm never tried a chanel blush before, but i’m really liking the fall colors 🙂
wow, I’m so surprised at how this swatches! seeing the blush I thought, “how does that dark color ever work?” but then I saw it on you and it is lovely! The color really suits you, Christine. And may I ask, what lipstick are you wearing in the picture? it is sooo pretty on you!
Hey Ashley,
Here’s a breakdown for the lips – http://www.temptalia.com/5-minute-makeup-neutrals-with-urban-decays-naked-palette
This is a lovely blush, but it would not work at all for me. I’m just too pale for it. I do like that Chanel is branching out a bit with this color though.
So pretty! Wish it wasn’t too dark for my pale skin!
Wow, what lippy are you wearing Christine – its gorgeous!

Gorgeous shade, unfortunately not something I could wear. But I think it looks really beautiful with your dark hair!
What’s on your lips?

Hi Shilpa – here’s the breakdown – http://www.temptalia.com/5-minute-makeup-neutrals-with-urban-decays-naked-palette
Do you think it is similar to Benefit’s Dallas?
I think it’s a bit darker!
Way too dark for my pale complextion, but what a stunning colour though. I would love to have a lipstick in that!!! 🙂
I so wish I could pull this off, it’s lovely 🙁 ohh but if you don’t mind, what are you wearing on your lips? It’s so nice!

too dark for me!
and i never do the strong lip…and its not an everyday color for me atleast…
Omg, I loveloveLOVE this! I’m definitely going to start saving up, how much are they, $42?!
It’s gorgeous! I can see my first Chanel beauty purchase coming soon!
hot!
The most beautiful I’ve ever seen you! This color blush fits you perfectly, you should definitely put it into regular rotation!
Thank you, Sam!
Do you think that this shade would work better on warm toned skin? I have the South American year round tan but want a blush that will look natural on me. Also, how bad is the glitter factor? I ask bc I have a blush by MAC that I wish I had not gotten. It looks nice on at first, but then after a while, it makes my cheeks look really nasty *like old cold cuts with that nasty film that grows on them when the meat gets old and glisteny!*
Is this Plum Attraction comparable to Chanel’s Fandango? I tried it at the counter and I liked it, but I wanted to see the new shades coming (I’m in Ireland so they won’t be released until mid Aug!)
Thanks 😉
Hey! 🙂
I don’t think they’re glittery, IMO. I don’t know where it goes, because you can see it in the pan, but it doesn’t seem to translate on the skin.
I’d say it’s plummer than Fandango.
I love your blog! Quick question: Do you think this will show up on NW50 skin?
Not really 🙁
