This week’s Mellan photo (well, video this week!)…
P.S. — I love seeing everyone interact with each other here, so I am also going approve comments without replying (with the intention of still replying personally!) as I can so that you can see each others comments ASAP!
Haul: stocked up on L’Oreal brow pencils and waterproof Miss Manga mascara because 40% off and the 2 Wet N Wild highlighters (which I’m in love with!) Things that are going back: Rimmel gel eye liner (because I’m probably not going to use a pot form eye liner), L’Oreal waterproof telescopic liquid liner (it flakes off strangely), and the Rimmel liquid pen liner (not black enough, more like a watery black)
Weekend plans: The Metropolitan Art Museum
What’s your favorite thing to drink?: Iced Green tea in summer time.
By the way to answer if I had fun in Europe from 2 Fridays ago, yes. It was amazing, and I’m already planning my way back. haha
I need to find the new Wet ‘n’ Wild highlighters! I have great things!
I have the new WNW powder highlighter in Precious Petals, and it’s stunning! It’s so silky smooth, with beautiful shimmer, total DS gem for $3, got it from Walgreens. Can hold its own against my other highlighters from Becca and Hourglass
Wow $3?! Thanks for the tip. I’ll add that to my “things to do this weekend”.
Michele, hope you can check out the new WNW highlighters. Precious Petals is 100% as finely milled and smooth as my $60 Dior Nude Glowing highlighter. In the pan, the shimmers look very similar. I swatched both side by side in broad daylight, and the color and finish are also very similar. The Dior one has just a tad more sheen/shimmer, and the WNW has a slight pink undertone, but blended out on the skin, the difference is probably minor. It’s definitely a DS gem! There’s another color called Crown of My Canopy, but I think it’s too warm for me.
Oh, to clarify, I’m comparing it to the LE Diorskin Nude Air Glowing Gardens highlighter that came out this spring, in the color Glowing Nude 002. The one that sold out within days, and I think they made like 5,000 for like 5 million people that wanted it!! I forgot Dior had a bunch of similar named “glowing” products.
I’m really hoping they bring that one to Canada… We need good highlighter options in the drugstore up here. 😉
They are really great. I’m glad that the drugstore is coming out with better options for people who aren’t looking to spend a lot of money on high end. I think it’s really fun to find the hidden gems.
Oh! I want one of these! Not sure whether there is a Walgreen’s on route to the Arizona Mills Mall over in Tempe? And I don’t want to do much walking, so it would have to be on the pathway. But one of these sounds so worth it!
It’s definitely a pretty highlighter, on shimmery side, but the shimmer is well done, and it blends like silk. I think Walgreens only had 4 on display (2 in each color), so you might want to call them in advance to see if they have any in stock before you trek down there. Or if you can order online, even better. I stumbled upon a brand new display and pounced on it, $4 reg, but got on sale for $3. They need to make this baby permanent!
Ohh those Wet N Wild highlighters look promising!
Mac Hug Me lipstick, loved it from your post last week.
No plans, relax at home .
Mojito and Coffee.
It is true, Mellan can never have too many toys. xoxo for him from me and the boys. Have a great weekend Christine.
Have a lovely, relaxing weekend at home, Lily! 🙂
Can’t wait for the review of that new Glow Kit!
Haul: Beauty.com sent me a “please come back” coupon for 25% off, so I treated myself of a full-sized Kevyn Aucoin Starlight highlighter (my current was a tiny eyeshadow-sized pan in a Contour Book palette). I also bought the new Starlight lipgloss but ended up sending it back because it just looked like solid beige frost 🙁
Weekend plans: Yardwork and Pinterest. We are planning a lot of projects for both inside and outside the house but the bigger the project, the harder the decisions are!
What’s your favorite thing to drink?: It really depends on the situation, probably latte in the morning, sparkling wine or a good craft cocktail in my evening hours 🙂
Their coupon worked, LOL! They got you to come back 😉
Bummer about the gloss not working out, though!
I ordered a few ColourPop goodies that’ll finally arrive today. I’m pretty excited to get my hands on Birthday Boy to see how I like it. It looks really pretty in the swatches I’ve seen so far. I also picked up a few Makeup Revolution goodies which I’ve been loving lately. I can’t believe how great the quality is!
Fingers crossed you enjoy your new CP goodies, Fancie! 😀
What Makeup Revolution products did you get and love?
Haul: MAC x Chris Chang prep and prime powder cause of the packaging and the cream color base in Peony Pavilion…I was surprised at how much I like this packaging since lately I seem to really like the psychedelic artwork *shrugs* anyway I also picked up Maybelline dream mousse liquid foundation cause I remember loving this a couple of years ago and Maybelline The Rocket mascara
Weekend Plans: movies (Through the Looking Glass and Me Before You), planning on doing some shopping, and if the weather is nice going to the arboretum for a bit
Favorite Drink: big fan of the cinnamon dolce latte from starbucks or iced coffees….I’m 24 and I didn’t really drink coffee when I was younger but now I’m suddenly in love with the stuff haha
I think the packaging on Chris Chang was really cool! Glad you found something you can use and enjoy from the launch.
haha I also didn’t start drinking coffee until I was in my early 20s and now I’m addicted 🙂
Mellan, the toy junkie!
*Haul – L’Oreal Colour Riche Mono shadows in Meet Me in Paris (not tested yet) and Green Promenade ( like it! The color reminds me of Chanel Griffith Green D’Illusion Ombre. I know it only scored B- here, but it was pigmented, and lasted 11 hrs over WNW Fergie primer with no fallout or creasing on my oily lids, was quite impressed for DS shadow). MAC Brooke Candy Lip liner in Nightcrawler ( Yes!! Finally a lipliner in true dark eggplant purple with no red or pink undertones, I bought 2, thanks for the tip Wwendy!) , Chanel Eyeliner in Oasis (Stunning ! If anyone likes Marc Jacobs Peridot, check it out. It’s about 2 shades darker, but has the same glossy shimmery finish, would call it a bright spring grass green, it’s LE for summer). And after reading countless rave reviews, incl yours, finally caved and ordered Chanel Empreinte du Desert shadow quad, but won’t come until next week
*Weekend – probably some work (it’s our super busy season), then relax
*Favorite Drink – still miss coffee dearly, but now drink teas, jasmine or oolong is my fave
He is! I just bagged up several for donation (a friend of a friend runs a local non-profit for animals around here, so that was convenient!). He doesn’t really destroy them, and it takes ages for him to puncture them enough to toss them out!
I’m so jealous of the coverage you got out of Griffith Green! So lucky!
Sorry my comment was a little confusing, but I actually got 11 hrs out of L’Oreal Green Promenade with primer. I didn’t get Chanel Griffith Green. I swatched the Chanel one in store multiple times, and kept waffling over it for months, but couldn’t pull the trigger as I didn’t think I would wear it often enough to justify the price. I was so glad Green Promenade came along! It’s not an exact color dupe, but definitely in the same color family, and can’t beat the price, $5 on sale 🙂
OOOOH. Gotcha 🙂
Mellan pic didn’t load 🙁 I’ll check it out on Instagram!

Weekend plans: Mani, Write blog reviews, Possibly shoe shopping and dress pants shopping, Indian buffet lunch with my daughter. They’re calling for rain here (again) this weekend. If it doesn’t rain, I may go to a festival on Saturday.
What’s your favorite thing to drink?: I’m diabetic so it kind of limits my options! Probably coffee with half and half. I LOVE mango lassi and will probably be watching my daughter have one at our lunch!
I’ll be curious to hear if you like the new UD formula! I am dying to hear from readers once they are able to try it!
I bought 3 different finishes so I could get a sense of how the new formula was going to be. The order is scheduled for delivery on Monday (I’ll swatch them on arrival) but I probably won’t try/test/wear the first one until Tuesday since I don’t wear makeup when I’m working from home. I think I have to go into the office Tuesday.
Aw, Mellan’s toy pile is just THE BEST. Haha.
Haul: MUFE Mat Velvet Foundation. I’m excited for this, it’s my first high-end foundation! Initially, I walked into Sephora thinking I might get either the black label or premium Dr Jart BB cream but they all looked either too orange or grey which was disappointing. I was also contemplating getting the Clinique Even Better foundation but all the reviews, except the one by my favourite reviewer Cassie (ThriftThick), weren’t very good. Hopefully the Mat Velvet works out, we can’t return makeup here ):
Weekend plans: Gotta pick up my camera and lens from the shop.
Favourite drink: There’s a tea shop here that sells Peach Macchiato and I could drink that all day, err’day.
I hope you love your new foundation, Kimberly! A friend of mine swears by that stuff (she has very oily skin).
I have to say that that I absolutely love to see that you donate cosmetics.
Thanks!
Where can you donate lightly used cosmetics, Christine?
Hi Ginny,
You have to find a local shelter/organization that will take them, because many of them do not, so you might have to do a lot of calling around! I donated to the Pro Bono Project in San Jose, CA. I have to look to see if there’s a local organization that’ll take lightly used in the Phoenix area, otherwise I’ll have everything sent back to CA!
Family Promise of Greater Phoenix is a good one to donate to.
Thanks! I will look into them!
I passed my Exam! I am now a Licensed Clinical Social worker!!
Haul: I bought two of the Becca Champagne Collection face palettes–one for me and one for my daughter. I can’t wait to give it my daughter, she’s going to be so surprised! I took advantage of Nordstrom’s mascara event and picked up Guerlain’s Maxi Lash, Chanel’s LE Volume, and Georgio Armani’s Eyes to Kill. I have basically been living off mascara samples for 30 years and it felt so special to actually buy mascara! I am wearing Guerlain’s Maxi Lash today and love it. The brush combs my lashes out and makes them look defined. (Mine are curly and unruly, so the best mascaras make my lashes behave?.)
Weekend plans: No studying! Yay!! I am going to take my oldest daughter shopping and buy her anything she wants?
Favorite drink: If I could only have one drink, it would have to be coffee. I don’t say that lightly: I am PASSIONATE about coffee. I use filtered water, fresh beans, a conical grinder, special filters designed to remove bitterness, and boiling water poured over the beans for a nice slow drip. So delicious! Red wine would be my second drink of choice, I have a glass every night when I get home from work.
Question: What do you use to add a hint of extra color to your foundation in the summer?
Congratulations, Tammy!! That is amazing!! I’m so happy for you 😀
Thank you, Christine! I am happiest because I never have to spend another weekend of my life studying for an exam! Got the bachelors, followed by the masters, then my first license and now my advanced license. I am really and truly DONE!
I know exactly how you feel, Tammy 🙂 The idea of going back to school is zero percent appealing to me, and I was so glad to be done when I finished, lol! Congrats!
congrats on your exam!!! Whoo!!!!!
Thank you, Estefania!
congrats on passing your exam!!
For reference to answer your question: I’m usually about a MAC NW25 or and Urban Decay Naked foundation 3.0/3.5. I bought the Urban Decay Naked foundation in 8.0 and I mix it in with all types of foundations to adjust the color as I become darker in the summer. You can also use the CoverFx drops for this purpose as well.
I will check out the cover fx drops. Thank you!
Congratulations on your exam! Where do you plan to work as a SW/what population? My bf is also super into coffee…he buys beans on Amazon from Nicaragua but we also bought some in-person in Nicaragua and also Hawaii–apparently that volcanic soil (in both places) is good for the beans. I don’t drink coffee myself, but would be interested to see if you’re into beans from a particular place like he is 🙂
Alycia, I already work as a hospital social worker with clients who have severe and chronic mental illness (now I am finally qualified to do my job, lol). I LOVE this population and my job is different everyday. I have been on this unit for the past 9 years.
I do not have a love of beans from a specific region but I do get fixated on specific beans for months at a time. Right now I am hooked on Shot Tower Expresso. My husband put a different bean in my grinder earlier this week and after the first sip I asked, “What’s wrong with the coffee???”
YAY so happy for you!
I feel you on the coffee! I drive to a coffee roasters 2 states away to get mine fresh. They have hundreds of coffees to choose from (in whole bean). You can have them grind it for you there but of course, I do the same as you. (I should have said the coffee place is only about a 45 min. to an hour drive.)
Yay, a fellow coffee bean maniac!
So much so Tammy that my Twitter says “Life’s too short for bad coffee!” LOL
Congrats on passing your exam!
Thank you, Alice!
Congratulations, Tammy! I know from experience how much we need good social workers. Thank you!
Rachel, a social worker changed my life when I was a single mom with two young children at age 21. I am proud to be able to be in a position to pay it forward.
Congratulations Tammy – what a mammoth effort to finish all that studying and it is so worthwhile what you are doing. Those with mental health problems are really deserving of help and support from people like you.
I hope you and your daughter have a fun time together – “shop till you drop” and find some great bargains.
It is a wonderful feeling having your weekends back again.
Thank you, Genevieve! On a side note, just wanted to let you know your name is one of my favorite names. I was done having daughters when I discovered Genevieve, so I had to give that beautiful name to one of my beloved kitties❤️
Thank you Tammy! I love my name too.
Great job on achieving your LCSW. Are you putting an I in there now, or isn’t it worth it?
What is an “I”?
WooHoo!!!! I am so very happy for you Tammy! Not sure how I missed this wonderful news earlier, sorry that my congrats are finding you after Friday, but this is so good to hear about. Even after 11 p.m.! There is quite an enormous need for fully qualified Social Workers, I can tell you.
Thank you, Nancy!
Haul: I *finally* pulled the trigger & ordered the Lunatick Cosmetics Lab Contour Book. I’ve gone back & forth on it for several months, as it is kind of pricey at $74, but the shades are very unique, and talc-free. It also includes 4 blushes, and all appear to be shades I’d be willing to wear.
I also ordered 5 Kat von D liquid lippies in Witches, Damned, Vampira, Nosferatu, & Exorcism… Along with the 20+ lip products sitting in my ULTA cart (sale starts Sunday!), I am not allowed to even look at lip products until New Year’s!
Plans: Cleaning…
Drink: Milkshakes, but I’m lactose intolerant, so it’s a rare indulgence…
What lip products are in your cart, Amy?
8 of the new Maybelline, 8 of the new NYX Liquid Suede shades, and several NYX Matte & Full Throttle shades. I have a couple of the Full Throttle already, and I really like the formula (it really reminds me of the original Revlon ColorStay formula from the 90s!).
Lunatick Supernatural is one of the 2 nude palettes I want now (the other being En Taupe.). I fear they may overdupe. (Makeup vocabulary coinage.) That contour palette.looks wonderful & comprehensive, but I only play at face sculpting. Have you gotten any Lunatick lip products?
I haven’t tried anything, yet. I’m thinking of getting the Supernatural palette at some point, as well as doing a custom palette, since there are shades I like in the other 2, and shades I would never wear.
Haul: Lunatick Cosmetics contour palette (it was 20% off!) and Becca’s Jaclyn Hill face palette; I love the contrast of these two items!
Weekend plans: Trip to Charleston with my partner for our 8-year anniversary ^^
Favorite thing to drink: Water!!! If it sounds boring, re-cast it in your mind as the privilege it is to have clean, fresh drinking water with literally no effort and remember how good you feel when you’re well hydrated! Aside from that, I love me a chai latte from Starbucks!
Have a great anniversary trip, Alycia! 😀
Happy anniversary!
Happy anniversary, Alycia!
Hey Christine–would you consider doing a dedicated post about how to donate makeup?
You have to call your local organizations to find out what their needs are and what they take (or don’t take) – it literally comes down to each individual organization. I called forty different ones when I was in CA before reaching out to my law professor (at the time) who introduced me to the organization I donated to! There’s no real how-to about it 🙂
Thanks 🙂
Haul: Thanks to 5x points on Too Faced at Ulta, I bought Boudoir Eyes, which has provided me with some much-needed cool tones. Believe it or not, I’ve never bought a Too Faced 9-pan palette until now. I also (finally) bought a NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk to use as a base when I want certain shades to show up better and more true to color.
Weekend plans: Not sure yet. It’s a long weekend for me due to a certain outdated and ridiculous state holiday…don’t mind being off, though.
Drink: Tequila when consuming alcohol…Coke Zero, coffee, or water otherwise.
5x points — nice!! 🙂
Here’s hoping NYX Milk helps!
Haul: Got my samples of Meow Cosmetics mineral foundation. I’ve only tried one so far (wearing it now). They definitely have some very pale options–I highly recommend sampling if you are anywhere on the color spectrum that makes it difficult to find a match in mainstream brands. The color I’m wearing is called Inquisitive Manx and is the palest color depth with yellow and peach undertones. Yellow with peach is how I think of my undertones (super pale red(ish)head with Scottish genes), but the tone of Inquisitive Manx is not matching my neck (and it’s also too light!). My neck is way more golden. I beseech you, Cat Overlords, what is my undertone?! Luckily I have several other samples to try. As far as application goes, I used a damp sponge to apply so I didn’t waste any of the sample (I would normally use a kabuki for mineral powder). It worked well, nice velvety finish that looks natural and not powdery, I’m at the three hour mark and it looks exactly the same. The true test is the car mirror when I leave work. The formula I got is supposed to be full coverage, but it’s definitely medium and not particularly buildable. Not a deal breaker as long as it wears well.
Weekend plans: First time in a while I have no plans at all. Maybe hit an outlet, I haven’t shopped in months.
What’s your favorite thing to drink?: My essentials are water, coffee, and sauvignon blanc.
Happy to hear that they are true to being as light as you were hoping! Fingers crossed it wears well for you! Keep us all posted 🙂
Haul: MAC Soft Serve eyeshadows in Jealous Girl, Plead Gilty, Quite Yummy, So So Saucy, and Bounce around, plus three of the Dare Hue! brow pencils, Blue Nectar lipsticks in Ablaze, Riot House, Give In, Courting Seduction, Sweet Venom, blush pans in Rosy Outlook, Sweet as Cocoa, Melba, and Apple Red, Emphasize shaping powder pan. ColourPop Jenn Ne Sais Quoi quad, KaePop quad, Alchemy set, Doohee satin lip and pencil, Dopey satin lip, Chi ultra matte lip, Solow ultra matte lip, matte X lips in Cami, Topless, Back Up, and She Bad, Releve and Renaissance sculpting stix. Sephora: Viseart Boheme Dream palette, Double sided ZPalette, Liquid NARS Laguna Bronzer, MILK eye pigments in Mermaid Dream and Peep Show, Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Foundation, MUFE eyeshadows in Nile Green, Petrol Blue, Crystalline Mauve Turquoise, Crystalline Mauve, Blueberry, and Lavender, Color Switch Sponge, a few travel/carry on accessories, a pair of Huda Beauty lashes in Sasha, Bobbi Brown Touch Up Stick in Warm Beige (HOLY GRAIL!!!), Marc Jacobs Cover(t) Sticks in Bright Now and Getting Warmer.
Weekend Plans: It’s my dad’s birthday today, so my sister and I are probably going to take him to dinner!
Favorite thing to drink: This is awful awful awful for you, but I can’t quit my Coca Cola habit. It’s just too good.
How do you like the Dare Hue pencils, Estefania? I’ll be curious to see if those work for people!
Happy birthday to your Dad!
Thanks, Christine!
You know… I tried using them yesterday… I knew going in that my black brows would need to be covered first, but I just couldn’t seem to make them work…I think they’ll be good for people with really light brows. I’m working on ways to use them differently!
Please comment on the Jenn Ne Sais quad–I want to buy it but have no idea about the quality.
Haul: 3 Urban Decay Revolution Lipsticks from the sale on their website.
I took a shot on a colour I’m unsure of working on me with Bittersweet but it’s actually more wearable than I thought it would be, and the formula works well for me too! Wish I’d grabbed Carnal while it was on sale too, before it went out of stock.
Also, I have a question if you don’t mind. I want to get a liquid highlighter and I’m torn between Armani Fluid Sheer in 10, Kevyn Aucoin Celestial Liquid and Becca’s liquid Moonstone.
Kevyn Aucoin the most expensive here, and I’m not too worried about longevity – I’m thinking more about the finish and which one is the most or least sheer/subtle.
Celestial Liquid! Ahhh, sooo good! I think the Kevyn Aucoin is the most finely-milled/subtle. Becca’s is most similar in terms of size/sheen, but I prefer KA just slightly, but I think Becca’s is quite good.
Giorgio Armani No. 10 is most shimmery, but of the three, it is also a lot warmer/darker – it could add some warmth to whatever you mix it in. The other two are much lighter and will add luminosity but not a ton of color.
Thanks so much for the help!
Ah, I’m so tempted by the KA (I think I like the colour best too!), but it’s £10 more than the other two. And the Candlelight powder has already stolen my heart as far as powder highlighters go – again, thanks for making me try it!
Also, GA is one of the few companies in the UK that give you samples so you can try things yourself – they were very low on stock last time I went, but I’ll try and grab some samples, and decide if I like any as much as the Celestial Liquid. I use their Luminous Silk foundation too so there’s a silly part of me that wants the the Armani so the bottles match!
I love Sheer Fluids, so I think it is a good formula to consider – definitely worth trying to nab a sample first and seeing how you like it before going Becca/KA!
Candles can be beauty items, right? Hahah in my mind they kind of are. And I went nuts with a Memorial Day Sale at Witch City Wicks. I stocked up on my faves online.
Going to see Florence + the Machine tomorrow!
I am boring and LOVE plain soda water!
They surely can be! 🙂
Have a blast at the concert! Love Florence + the Machine!
Haul: Decided to purchase MAC Invite Intrigue from Blue Nectar knowing full well how similar it is to Have Your Cake. I’m hoping it ends up looking more like Bite’s Dragonfruit. I can’t get enough bright purple pinks! I also threw in a couple ‘Goodbyes’ on discount at MAC.ca (Magic of the Night collection – All Fired Up and Dark Side). I’m still building up my MAC lipstick collection so anytime I can get a discount on a classic shade I’ll take it!
Weekend plans: playing in the backyard and swimming in the pool with my kids, barbecuing, yoga class and unfortunately putting in extra time at work.
What’s your favourite thing to drink? A good cup of coffee, a good oak aged chardonnay.
Fingers crossed it’s less like Have Your Cake, more like Dragonfruit for you!
Have Your Cake is unbelievable! I have dupes, but nothing compares to the formula and color of Have Your Cake!
Mellan is so sweet!
Haul: Becca x Jaclyn Hill eye and face palettes!!! Loving Prosecco Pop so much!
Weekend plans: Calgary’s first Urban Off Leash Dog Park just opened a block from my house yesterday (we’ve already been twice last night) so I think I’ll be spending a lot of time there this weekend since the weather is supposed to be hot and sunny. They park has lots of trees and even a water fountain for the dogs so my little black Yorki-Poo won’t get too hot.
What’s your favorite thing to drink?: Being from Calgary where the Caesar was invented, that’s one of my favourites. I’m trying to cut back on sugar lately so there’s no Coke in the house but I’ve been drinking a ton of water and iced coffee. I also like to put fruit in my water bottle for a bit of flavour.
Christine I noticed you mentioned playing with the new ABH Glow Kit, do you know if this will be available on Sephora? I can order from ABH and they ship to Canada but I prefer Sephora because they’re returns are so easy if need be.
Sounds like the park is awesome!
I’m not sure if it’ll be at Sephora, to be honest! ABH doesn’t send me any info, but you could try and go through their Instagram comments? That’s about all I know!
Haul: Nothing this week! Although I do need a new foundation. I was outside all last weekend and am now much tanner!
Weekend plans: The youth group at my church are having a lock-in for 30-hour family with World Vision, so basically making sure I’m not a super lame leader lol! Then a graduation party on Saturday.
What’s your favorite thing to drink?: Cold-ish water! Or my fresh strawberry lemonade mixed with a little gingle ale for fizz. Or an awesome peppermint mocha latte ;P
famine* not family 😛
Strawberry lemonade is SO good!
I actually have no idea what a lock-in is (well, I have some guesses) but am off to Google!
Haul: MAC Hot Chocolate lipstick, Urban Decay Fireball highlighter, MAC Pro Longwear Waterproof foundation in NC15, ColourPop Wattles and their lippie primer with Birthday Boy for free, Too Faced Better than Sex mascara, Tarte Quench Lip Rescue in nude, and Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in Ravenswood, Frenemy, and Big Bang.
Weekend Plans: I’m in retail so I’ll be working this weekend plus hanging out with my bulldog Bella.
Favorite thing to drink: I in general drink water and coffee mainly.
Wow! Lots of new goodies. Hope you love the new Vice formula!
Is that a mint colored bowtie on Mellan? So adorable!
Haul: Some things. My low-buy isn’t going as well as I’d like, but I know it’s going well enough, mostly because I don’t have anywhere near as much recycling as I normally do. This is from the last 3-4 weeks:
Tatcha: Kyoto Red Silk Lipstick. LOVE. I’ve been wanting it forever and finally got it during their most recent restock. It really is incredibly flattering.
CVS: e.l.f. prism eyeshadow palette in Sunset, W&W Color Icon Eyeshadow Palettes in Petal Pusher and Comfort Zone, L’Oreal True Match blush in Rosy Outlook, L’Oreal True Match Concealer in Fair/Light Warm. Surprisingly, I really like the concealer and blush but do not like any of the eye shadow palettes. I might send them to a friend.
Pacifica: Enlighten Eye Brightening Shadow Palette and Solar Complete Color Mineral Palette. Didn’t really need both palettes, since the colors in the Enlighten palette are almost all in the Solar Palette, but I’m happy I have them. I’m actually really impressed by how nice they are, I guess just because no one I know of really ever talks about Pacifica cosmetics.
And the mascaras that I bought during Nordstrom’s buy 2 get 1 sale. I’m feeling too lazy to look up which ones I got, lol.
Weekend plans: Relax. The last few weeks have been hectic. I just got back home the day before yesterday from spending a week with my mom for Memorial Day, and the week before that my insomnia was getting so bad that I actually started taking non-prescription sleeping pills (I’ve never done that before). I’m sleeping much better now, but they make me so dizzy and lightheaded that I don’t want to do anything if I can help it.
What’s your favorite thing to drink?: Water, that Oregon chai tea mixture that you add milk to and fruit smoothies.
It is! 🙂
I just got my Nordstrom mascara order this afternoon! Hope you enjoy your new mascaras 😀
Glad you are sleeping better now!
Thank you, I hope you do as well! I’m trying to be good and only have one or two mascaras open at a time, so I think it’ll be a while until I get to try them lol!
Thank you! =D
Haul: Urban Decay Bittersweet blush and Haight shadow. Besame brightening violet powder and Fresh birthday gift set from Sephora.
Weekend plans: nothing because I have this *%$^# AWFUL summer cold and just want to stay in bed.
Favorite drink: COFFEE.
Haight! Such a pretty shade 🙂
Feel better!
Hope you kick the cold soon!
Thanks 🙂
Haul: Becca x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Face palette!
Weekend plans: Taking my mom out to dinner tonight! And having a little reunion with some people from grad school on Sunday!
What’s your favorite thing to drink?: Lately I really love iced matcha green tea drinks!
Have a great dinner with your mom, Cat! 😀
Haul:
ColourPop: Lyin’ King, Dopey, Molly, Birthday Boy (free with purchase)
OCC: RTW Lip Tar Shoegazer
Nordstrom Mascara Madness sale: Chanel Le Volume, MAC Mineralize, MAC Haute & Naughty, Dior Diorshow, Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill, YSL Volume Effet, Burberry Boldlash, Chanel Inimitable Intense. I already like MAC Haute & Naughty and Diorshow but I’m really excited to try all the others so I also bought a package of disposable mascara wands and I’m going to test one a day with a disposable wand and see how I like it. If I like it, I keep it and use it up and then I’ll open another mascara. If not, my friends or my sister get it if they want it and I open the next mascara to try. I got everything I wanted to try this time round except for Tom Ford – I plan on picking up a few the next sale.
Weekend Plans: Baking all day today for a baby shower – ahem, sprinkle she says, since it’s her second – on Saturday, Saturday late afternoon clean the house, and then I’m parking my generous behind on the couch with pizza and movies. Maybe brunch and a movie after church on Sunday.
What’s your favorite thing to drink?: A solid, sturdy red wine or Republic of Tea’s ginger peach green tea with a packet of Trader Joe’s stevia, hot or cold. I mention the names because I’ve tried other company’s ginger peach teas and other company’s stevias and they don’t taste the same (tea is bland, can’t taste the stevia or there’s a wonky aftertaste, etc). I also like jasmine pearls green tea and any of the ‘sodas’ that La Croix makes. My favorites are the lime and cranberry/raspberry combination. I haven’t had a soda in over 20 years because it would always break me out and I couldn’t handle that much sugar so I lost the taste for it in my 20’s, but I liked the carbonation.
Whew! That is a lot of mascara! I will be curious which will be your favorite at the end of the day.
Nice job on no soda for 20 years!
How do you like Shoegazer? I got Alt Girl (sight unseen, which I imagine is how most or all of us bought anything from the UO launch) and it’s beautiful and unique but very cool toned on me. Almost icy, kind of late 90s looking. Shoegazer looks very pretty and kind of delicate, I wondered about it.
Hi Blue – will report back on Monday, it’s still sitting at work (I have everything sent there for the time being until the porch pirate situation abates). I ordered it because I liked the opacity, the creaminess and like it had a very fine, subtle golden sheen overlay. It seems like a great summer lip, might be a bit too bold but I figure I could play around with opacity and color with lipliners. What kind of eye do you do with Alt Girl?
Okay got it today finally and wore it. On me (MAC NC 22ish), it is a muted, creamy red and it looks like it’s neutral to me, but I’m not very good with undertones. I love the creaminess of the color and can see it being an everyday color for me. I wore it all day today and will have to wear a lip balm or have conditioned lips though because after a days wear, my lips are a little dehydrated and have patchy staining.
Mellan looks so chill and comfy! ?
Haul: Chanel Empreinte du Desert, TF Lips & Boys in Derek, Nyx Ultimate Brights, Retinol Anti-Aging Facial Serum. I wore the Chanel quad and Derek yesterday and wanted to dance in the streets because I felt like a golden goddess of the seaside!!! ?Man, did my eyes look green!
Weekend plans: I have one quick run to make this afternoon, which is crazy with how hot it is supposed to get. But I just got to! Tomorrow, I’ll do my hair and chillax for INDOORS with AC! They’re calling for 118° or more for tomorrow ?
What do you like to drink: Sangria (homemade with the orange pieces!), Mocha latte in winter, that lime-cucumber Gatorade in summer or a strawberry lemonade!
You got the Chanel!! 🙂 I am so glad you love it! Well, it sounds like you do 🙂
Oh, I sure do! It just looks so gorgeous on, that gold looks like liquid! ???
Yayyy!
Oh Nancy, so glad you got the Chanel Empreinte!! I KNEW you would look gorgeous in it. Glad you didn’t miss out, since it’s LE. Mine’s coming in the mail next week, can’t wait!
Katherine, you will LOVE it!!! It has something about that is hard to describe? I keep saying “liquid” , but almost a molten metal effect? It just blew me away!
Ooh, you will be queen of the desert, and I don’t mean Priscilla, in that Chanel quad! It will be one of your HGs, I can tell. Good job!
You’re right, KJH! Yesterday, I felt so…GLAM! And with TF Derek paired with it: prettier than I have felt in a really long time!
Haul: I snapped up the Lorac Pro 3 the day you posted it Christine and it arrived yesterday. I am wearing it today and I love it. I have never had any trouble with Lorac shadows and this palette was right up my alley. So glad I check your site the first thing after brushing my teeth in the morning!!
Weekend plans are pretty boring. I have to do some serious house cleaning and mow the lawn.
Favorite drink is Starbucks Cool Lime Refresher. It isn’t available in all Starbuck’s anymore but I stocked up on the packets for home use so I am good for awhile.
Have a nice weekend Christine.
So glad you are loving the new LORAC palette, Deborah! 😀
Haul-Chanel Empreinte du Desert quad, 2 Clarins summer waterproof eyeshadows and a Lancôme Artliner in Menthe. I also ordered a little kit of Becca highlighters to try these out. It’s not here yet though.
Weekend Plans-the usual growup stuff but I also hope to play in my vegetable garden culling the radishes, carrots, etc.
Favourite Drink-good black coffee
The Chanel quad is so pretty! Can’t wait for you to try it.
Haul: I wasn’t going to haul after my duty-free haul from April but then I ran out of a skincare thing and it went downhill in store. I have gotten a cleanser from Clarins for sensitive skin, one of the instant light lip things from Clarins in a red limited edition color, Chanel Roman lipstick (love it) and the Kiehls honey and soy milk body cream. I also got a miniature of the Clinique chubby nude foundation. I don’t actually have any interest in a stick foundation but the ivory color from Clinique is a very good shade match for me so when I saw it I figured can have it for touch ups in bag.
Weekend plans: Ack it is like 28 degrees here so not sure I will get much done. Might try to get some work done because I need to have Tuesday of next week.
Favorite drink: Water probably. Or coffee. Or the caramel frappucino things but I try not to have that too often.
I want to try one of the Clarins’ lip oils – have you tried those before?
Lovely portrait of Mellan this week. I love his mint bow tie for spring. 🙂
Haul: Makeup Revolution — New-trals vs. Neutrals Palette (My consolation for not getting Sweet Peach. I’m loving it so far! I think it has more peach in it than the Sweet Peach.); Redemption Palette in Unicorns Are Real (haven’t tried yet); Vivid Baked Highlighter in Radiant Lights (so pretty!). Urban Decay — 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Psychedelic Sister and lipgloss samples. Ofra Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Venice, St Tropez, Dubai, and Brooklyn (Four for $5 + free shipping).
Weekend plans: It’s going to be 89F here today, and upper 90s over the weekend, so trying to stay cool. Thank goodness for AC.
What’s your favorite thing to drink? Diet cola (I know, bad). For a treat, Starbuck’s Mocha Frappacino.
Do you think the Makeup Revolution palettes hold-up to the quality of Too Faced?
I think the New-trals vs. Neutrals is at least as good as any Too Faced I’ve tried. Their Salvation Palettes (I have all but one), I Heart Palettes, and Pro Palettes I’ve tried are as good or better. The Redemption and larger palettes I’ve tried are good, but not as good as Too Faced or similar mid-range. More like good drug store.
Haul: I’ve been really into lip liners & greige lip colors so picked up last month or so the following:
Bite beauty Thistle, lavender jam & taro ■ OCC hollywood, indrid, rime lip tar & Sebastian & trick pencil ■ MAC ample pink, nymphette, spite lip gloss & soar, dervish, rosy rim lip pencil ■ Lorac goddess, socialite lip pencil ■ Marc Jacobs nudeist, honeybun lip pencil ■ Sephora the nudest, cashmere pink, meloncholy gel lip liner ■ Rimmel addiction, pink a punch, natural, innocent, east end snob lip liner.
Weekend plans: workn @ nite, catch up on shows!
Favorite drink: non-alcohol Lemonade ❤? Rosè slushies Luv luv!!
Someone has a color type 😉
Not that you need much encouragement, but you might want to swatch Chris Chang Plum Princess, too. It’s a very grayed lavender, and the case is memorable.
Haul from last 2 weeks: YSL Black Opium fragrance, Quay mirrored aviators, Anastasia Gleam palette-kit, Sephora 5-color eye palette in Milk-to-Dark-Chocolate, a sample of Lancôme sleeping mask (will compare with Laneige sleeping mask), trial size tube of EL Double Wear BB Cream in #2, and a sample of Clarins Double Serum.
Wish list: the new Essie topcoat that’s not actually gel but looks like it.
How do you like the Sephora palette?
Love the Sephora Milk-to-Dark-Chocolate palette. Some people might think that browns and bronzes are boring, or colors they already have, but oddly enough this palette just “hits the spot” with me. 🙂
Woohoo! That is great to hear. I might have to try it!
Haul: Tarte Tartelette Tease palette – that all, I think. I’m really liking this wee palette, though
Weekend plans: all her kids and spouses are getting together at my mother in law’s tomorrow to do household and garden repairs. She’s finally realized she can’t manage her large home any longer and will be putting it on the market after the summer so we’re trying to get all the little repairs and redecorating things done that she feels are needed (though personally, I think it’s a waste of time since most people these days rip everything out and redo to their own tastes).
Favourite thing to drink: I also really love lassi especially since drinking them in India; I adore coffee (flat whites are probably my favourite but lattes and just regular coffee…love it all) and sangria – especially in summer, I love sangria.
Ooh, you ended up getting the Tartelette Tease!
It definitely depends on the condition and whether there’s a lot to do or not, but I think if there’s sufficient work, people will do a ton when they move in!
Haul: NARS Dolce Vita lipgloss, Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured Crème in Champagne Pop and Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector (the liquid version) along with my Sephora birthday perk stuff. I also got freebies from promo codes: the Buxom Haute Pink Lips deluxe sample set, and the Farmacy Skin Dew Hydrating Essence Mist & Setting Spray deluxe sample, and I got the Bite Beauty Matte Crème Lip Crayon in Glacé point perk. My ColourPop order should be coming in tomorrow as well.
Weekend plans: Not sure as per usual. Avoid the triple-digit temperatures?
What’s your favorite thing to drink?: OMG I love mango lassi (and salt lassi)! More regularly, good quality tea with nothing else in it. I don’t do coffee and rarely do soda so tea is my fix of choice (iced or hot).
How do you like the Champagne Pop Poured/Liquid?
I think I like the liquid version best because it’s more subtle. I find it’s good as a base under foundation or mixed in for an all over glow, like the Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow (or other liquid glow-y things) but a bit warmer than the CT one so good for a “summery” glow.
Haul: Antibiotics and other assorted horse pills. I’m sick sick sick.
Weekend: Trying to keep my pets alive between naps and pills
Favorite Drink: I have many! I love chai, mojitos, teas of any sort, wine, water, smoothies… I’m all over the place. As for mixed drinks I tend to prefer lighter things like said mojitos because I have to enjoy what I’m drinking wether it’s booze or virgin! Plus being white girl wasted isn’t cute on anyone.
Oh no! Feel better, Erin!!
Oh yikes, hope you get better soon Erin!
Oh no, being sick during summer is the worst! Take as good care of yourself as you possibly can, and lots of rest. I definitely understand your concern for your furbabies, it’s really hard to stick with a routine when you’re that sick!
Get well soon, Erin!
Haul: Cult Beauty: Entire Jouer Cosmetics Mermaids set! Eye palette, cheek palette, 5 long wear lip colours plus 2 samples. Just gorgeous! Unicorn lip colour is so cute and the eye palette is to die for!
Urban Decay: Matte Revolution lipstick in After Dark – love it!
Beauty Expert: Clarins Double Fix’ mascara
Plans for weekend: Visiting the modern art gallery to see the Dada and Surrealist exhibition on. My fiancé loves Dadaism and we both like Surrealism. Sun we hope to go and see a film if my FIL is happy to babysit. MIL is away (they’re divorced) and my parents live 4.5 hours away.
Favourite drink: Tetley ‘baby’ tea. My fiancé teases me how it’s not proper tea leaves but I can’t be bothered with all the faff, I just want tea there and then! I use it as a treat to get me through the day when I’m doing chores or doing something with my toddler that deserves rewarding, like changing a nappy, lol! Other than tea, I love an ice-cold Coke on a warm day ?.
Wow! Lots of new goodies from Jouer! 😀
I think Mellan is a bit spoilt for choice with his toys, but I know I would be spoiling him too!
Haul: Rimmel Mascara in black, Max Factor mascara in navy blue, Smith and Co. hand cream, Innoxa Skincare kit for Sensitive skin, a backup Natio Sunkissed blush, and finally I ordered the bareminerals The Scenic Route duo – because I have been eyeing off that gorgeous olive green colour for a long while. Our mid year sales are on, but not everything is on sale. No sales in cosmetics from the big brands like Dior etc.
Weekend Plans: all week it has been freezing starts and beautiful sunny days, but now the weekend is here it is rain, rain and rain. We need the rain, but just not all day on the weekend. So it will be indoor activities alas.
Favourite drink: Definitely a coffee – cappuccino for me, followed by tea.
He is totally spoiled! No secret!
What kind of tea do you like?
I wish our dog’s toys lasted long enough to create a pile! Maybe Mellan can teach our Razzie how to be gentle! =)
Haul: A Cle de Peau eyeshadow (my first experience with the brand), Sephora Brush Conditioner, FAB Facial Radiance Pads, and a Too Cool For School sheet mask (love these!!).
Weekend plans: I’ve been running a low-grade fever for days… so we probably won’t be doing much of anything… again. :'( Hopefully I’ll feel up to going to Macy’s to exchange a maternity top I bought for my daughter.
What’s your favorite thing to drink?: My drink of choice is iced tea. I also love the occasional Mocha Latte, and by occasional, I mean two or three times a year.
Christine, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the First Aid Beauty Eye Duty Triple REmedy. I’ve thought about buying it numerous times but I don’t know that it would be any better than what I’m currently using.
Haul: No haul this week.
Weekend plans: My mother-in-law is visiting us for a week, so finishing touches around our place before her arrival, then enjoying local sights and sounds. No doubt we’ll make our way to a CCO next week, this my ‘no haul’ week.
Fave Drink: Anything with espresso, or a smoothie from a company called Bowl of Heaven.
Haul: Anastasia Madison liquid lipstick. Lemming Anastasia Modern Renaissance but holding off a while. Might look into some new moisturizer with SPF and a vitamin C liquid, I’ll need them for summer.
Weekend plans: cleaning, making burritos to eat in the sunshine with my partner
What’s your favorite thing to drink?: the coffee at my parents’ house, manhattans or vespers with friends are a very fond second though
Haul: Errrr, nothing I think! I did place a Paula’s Choice order though.
Weekend plans: Spa weekend!
What’s your favorite thing to drink?: Champagne! Or alternatively prosecco or cava or sparkling wine.
Haul: ABH Modern Renaissance palette, Swamp Queen palette, Morphe 35F palette, Lorac Pro 3 palette, Violet Voss x Laura Lee palette, Fiona Stiles highlighter palette, Colourpop lippie sticks, ultra satin lipsticks, Un and Birthday Boy super shock shadows.
Weekend Plans: Hair appointments and dress shopping for my daughter and I in advance of her upcoming high school graduation.
Favorite Drink: Orange smoothie from Blenders in the Grass. I’ve had three this week.
Haul: Two one-time use packs of Yes to Cucumbers and Yes to Tomatoes face masks, a mini NARS eyeshadow primer, Yes to Carrots eye cream, several L’Oreal items because Rite Aid had a sale: Pro-Matte foundation in 108 (too neutral for my skintone), Pro-Matte powder in 500 Sun Beige, Pro-Last lip color in Raisin Revival, Infallible Matte-Matic liner in Deep Brown, Infallible Never Fail liner in Carbon Black, and Jesse’s Girl Eye Dust in Brown Sugar
Weekend plans: Lots of blogging. I have so much catching up to do with writing posts!
What your favorite thing to drink?: Cinnamon stick tea has been my go-to tea since December. I buy two boxes at a time when I visit the supermarket. I also really love Pure Ice Lemon Iced tea. I buy them at full size and I have a small bottle which I refill at home and take to work.
