Urban Decay x Gwen Stefani Ex-Girlfriend 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil ($20.00 for 0.04 oz.) is described as a “nude rose.” It’s a muted, medium rosy brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had mostly opaque coverage that went on evenly and only clung somewhat. The texture was still less waxy than I’m used to from this formula, but it was easier to use than most of the other shades in the spring launch. It wore for six hours before fading. Bite Beauty #036 (P, $18.00) is darker (85% similar). Urban Decay Deep (P, $20.00) is darker, warmer (85% similar). MAC Staunchly Stylish (P, $19.50) is darker (90% similar). MAC Nice 'n' Spicy (P, $19.50) is darker, warmer (85% similar). MAC Morning Coffee (P, $19.50) is darker (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Urban Decay x Gwen Stefani Phone Call 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil ($20.00 for 0.04 oz.) is described as a “deep fuchsia-pink.” It’s a bright, medium-darkw fuchsia-coral with warm-ish undertones and a matte finish. It had mostly opaque pigmentation with a slightly dry, firm consistency. It covered better and delivered smoother results, but it dragged and took awhile to fill in the lips due to how jagged everything looked. The color wore for over six hours. MAC Embrace Me (P, $17.50) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). MAC Dynamo (P, $19.50) is lighter, brighter (90% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Urban Decay x Gwen Stefani Firebird 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil ($20.00 for 0.04 oz.) is described as a “bright pink.” It’s a bright, fuchsia pink with cool undertones and subtle silver sparkle over a matte finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation paired with a drier, firmer consistency that dragged and tugged. It would be manageable to use to liner the edge of the lips, but for filling in, it was pretty rough. The color started to fade from the center of the lips noticeably after four hours. Urban Decay Amped (LE, $22.00) is less shimmery, warmer (85% similar). Bite Beauty #090 (P, $18.00) is darker, more muted (85% similar). Tom Ford Beauty I'll Teach You (Lip Shaper) (PiP, ) is more shimmery, lighter (85% similar). Urban Decay Anarchy (P, $20.00) is brighter (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Gosh darn it! I wish that Phone Call and Firebird performed better, I really love those two colors. I’m still going to have to check them out when they come to a store near me. Maybe they’ll work better for me? I usually don’t care much about packaging, but the I love the packaging on these, too.

The lip liner for Ex Girlfriend is so much more pigmented than the lipstick! Love the lip liner on you. Oh dear, I really like the color of Firebird, and it’s hard to find this kind of pink, most are too fuchsia for me, but $20 for D+. Might still be ok since I only outline my lips and fill in a little, and I always add lipstick and lip balm on top. If anyone has a suggestion for a cheaper dupe, let me know.

I totally agree with your review of Firebired. It’s the worst lip liner I have used by Urban Decay! So sad when it’s lipstick match is so gorgeous. It’s okay with the lipstick over. But, Anarchy does make it pop more. I also like it with MAC Fashion Boost. So, don’t get why they couldn’t nail this! The shimmer maybe? IDk. I may send it back. 🙁

Nicole, do you think Firebird could work if I just outline my lips with it, but not fill in the lips? Or is it so dry and draggy that it would be hard even to outline the lips? I usually put lipstick, then lip balm on top. I really like the color but worried it’s going to be torture to apply

Nicole Avatar

I think you will be fine for outlining. Just be sure to prep. Its not the worst pencil I have used. Just for UD’s formula ,it’s off. Under the lipstick though, its ok. I decided to keep mine. I have a ton of lip pencils.I can’t find anything close enough to say it’s a dupe enough for me to be content. I’m pretty picky though.

Thanks Nicole! I’ve just re-organized/purged my big stash of lipsticks and lip liners, and don’t have anything even close to the Firebird lip liner, so I will be picking it up.

Nicole Avatar

Keep me posted on how it works for you! I hope it works. I feel responsible now. :/
Just don’t plan to wear it alone and know it is thinner than other UD pencils.
The lipstick is insane pretty. So, I totally get your desire to have the lip liner.

Firebird sounds utterly painful as heck to apply, much less wear! YIKES!!! ?
Since I am really beginning to want the Firebird lipstick, I would stick to using a Nyx Slim Pencil in a close as possible shade, or a MAC lipliner in something close.
But….that Phone Call pencil looks so intense and gorgeous for spring/summer, I may just get it and keep Chapstick in my bag with it! It reminds me of fruit punch! ???

Anarchy seems to be a better dupe for poor Firebird! I’ve read elsewhere that there’s a new formula being used in some of the Gwen Stefani lip shades, Mega Matte, tho not all of them.

Cat Avatar

I wish Firebird had scored better. Since I plan to only use it as a liner, I think I’ll still be happy with it. I see it’s back in stock on the UD site but the lipstick is still sold out. =(

Even if the lipliners were awful to apply, you make them look good. I’m not going to buy any of them, I think. I would like to try Ex-Girlfriend though, as I, to my surprise really liked the lipstick when I tried it, using the small testers you go with the ES palette. I actually liked is so much I may have to buy it, and me with that stupd selfinflicted ban 🙂
