How does your beauty routine change in the winter?

I reach for thicker night creams, and I start getting better about using hydrating masks as my skin tends to get drier as the temperatures drop. This in turn means I tend to use foundations with more luminosity or a hydrating primer (really liking Hourglass’ 28 serum).

Moisturize, moisturize, and then moisturize some more! Especially my hands, limbs and lips, though. Seems like my face does pretty well, although then again, it was during the past several winters that I found all my facial products: Hada Labo gel-cream moisturizer, Ole Henriksen Truth Serum, Tarte Maracuja Oil, etc., except my eye cream, that was discovered last spring.

My skin gets drier, so I use more hydrating night creams, facial oils (JM Argan Light), sunscreens (FAB 5-in-1). I also switch to more illuminating powders/highlighters instead of traditional setting powders. And I’ve been misting my face with MAC Prep & Prime and JM Nirvana Hydrating Mist. I’m really liking that Kat Von D Primer (thanks Nicole for the tip!) as it seals in moisture without feeling heavy or causing breakouts, has no bad alcohols or fragrance, and plays nice with my foundation. I’m curious about the Hourglass No 28 one, will have to get a sample.

I also reach for richer night moisturizers (even masks as moisturizers), as well as richer day ones. I am more religious about using primer, but stick to my standard serum foundation (Bourjois Healthy Mix) in my day-to-day as I find it plenty moisturizing. I do tend to mix in a bit more of Charlotte Tilbury’s Wonderglow with it though. I also have switched from the Nars concealer to the UD one recently as I find it has the same coverage but doesn’t crease as much as it’s more liquid-y, but I’ll probably change to it year round instead of just seasonally. I also tend to add more green correction (the Japonesque Color Correcting Crayon in Shade 2) as well as a bit more yellow-toned concealer or powder as the cold makes my redness worse.

My routine doesn’t change except I use more lip balm in the winter as I live on the prairies in Canada, so it can get pretty cold. I already use exfoliating and hydrating masks weekly so I don’t need to do them more in the winter. I always put hand cream and foot cream on before bed anyways and I work at a job where I work with paper and have to wash my hands quite often so I use hand cream a lot through the day already.

I’m pretty heavy on moisturizer all year round, and in winter it’s the same but just more of it! I’ll also stay away from foundation altogether unless I’m going to a party or something.

I think the biggest difference is that I just do more indulgent things like long baths and masks because it’s so cold and miserable outside.

I start incorporating oils into my evening routine to combat my skin’s dehydration without making the oiliness worse. Marula oil is a new favorite.

I start adding a face oil into my routine and more hydrating serums. Right now, the oil is only being used at night and as the cold rolls in , I will add it to the daytime also. More hydrating masks vs masks for exfoliating . I like to sleep with a hydrating mask once it gets to be winter and I can’t seem to use the retinol as much.

Ditto: I need more aggressive moisturizers for my face and my entire body. In particular, dealing with animals, I wash my hands countless times during the course of a day so I absolutely need to have hand cream conveniently perched at every sink. I also eliminate a few foundations from my arsenal; namely, Tom Ford and GA maestro. This winter, I’m planning to use IT cosmetics CC or Missha BB as a foundation base with just a touch of an actual foundation on top only where I need the coverage (nose, cheeks, chin). I find I get pretty good ‘moisturization’ from both of these. Oh , and Serge Lutens Quant a Soi which is a ridiculously expensive primer, but wow, gives such a wonderful glow to face. It can be far too glowy for me in the humid heat of summer, but perfect for winter.

I also find I use more Sunday Riley oil based facial products; pressing the drops into my skin. On really cold days, I swear by the Juno product under foundation.

I’m super late to the BB CC bandwagon and both the products I listed here are amazing and have shades that *gasp work with my complexion. You should be good to go with the It Cosmetics: gives excellent coverage and feels wonderful and if I am pressed for time, this is my base product I slap on and go! Hope it works for you Nancy 😀

I go makeup free more so I can top up with my mousturizer
I apply way too much bite beauty agave lip mask because I eat it off! And I take shorter showers
I invest in dry shampoo because in the summer I can wash my hair and leave the house – very low maintenance hair – but in the winter dry shampoo saves me. I literarily never blow dry.

My beauty routine flourishes in the winter! I don’t have to worry about my makeup melting off, so I can reach for thicker, more dewy foundations and set with less powder. I don’t wear powder blush in the summer, so in the winter my cream blushes get put away and my powders come out to play. Plus I can go ham with the eyeliner. In the winter, I do a coconut oil mask once a week to prevent dryness and my keratosis pilaris, and I go for a cream or oil cleanser instead of a gel.

I need to moisturize 3x/day but if I have time. Love oils under my creams and use moisturizing cleansers and hydrating masks. Also use oil in my bath and follow with a body cream. Sometimes I put it on my face too after a bath!:)

I just try to moisturize even more than usual (which, admittedly, isn’t often enough) and I usually don’t have to blot my face as much. I’m really oily all year, but in winter, I’m just oily instead of crazy oily. 😛 I also try to focus on exfoliating as close to daily as possible because I get lots of flakes.

My skin and lips tend to get drier so I moisturize with thick body butters and apply lip balm more often. I am also more likely to use liquid foundation as it’s more comfortable on my drier skin than the powder foundation I typically wear.

Susan Avatar

I use more moisturizing moisturizers and serums, less drying facial cleansers and lip balm, eye creams. I try to keep my face covered if it’s very cold or windy as I get wind burn easily.
I change my face makeup from foundation powders to liquid and cream makeup.
Using a moisture mask is a great idea but I tend to forget them. Will have to work on that.

I just figured out my routine and it’s a little less hydrating than I really need for winter, so I will often re-apply right before bed (once the first application of my moisturizer has been fully absorbed). When I finish the product though I will purchase something that is a bit heavier to avoid having to use double the amount of product..

I’ve officially switched to using my Josie Maran 100% Argan Oil as my nighttime moisturizer. I’ll also use a hydrating mask overnight at least once a week for extra hydration. During the day, I add a liquid luminizer to my foundation routine for an extra glowy look!

OIL!!!! everywhere! all day!
I make sure I put on a generous layer of oil in the morning and at night before my moisturizer. At night, I make sure I use a thicker night cream for more hydration, and I’ll pat on some thirsty mud from glamglow just in the areas I need it (T-zone).
As for makeup, I usually reach for more radiant, hydrating primers, and a luminous foundation. I try to stay away from powder unless its setting my under eye, and I reach for creams more often, so nothing gets cakey.

I like a dewier look for winter. Bought myself the MUFE HD stick. I moisturize much more heavily, from head to toe. I may layer more skincare products as well. Also layer on lip products on top of balm to prevent chapping. I wear heavier socks, because I love toasty socks. And boots.
