This is the third finish in the brand’s lipstick range, Silky Satin. It’s supposed to be “the perfect alliance of luxurious colour, sensuous feel and superior wear.” More specifically, it is suppose to have “medium to full coverage in one stroke” while hydrating the lips and will not feather for four hours. Ronron had semi-opaque color payoff at most, so it is within range of what the brand says, but if you’re someone who wants maximum pigmentation for the price point, you may want to look elsewhere in the range. The texture feels lightly creamy once applied to the lips, and while it isn’t stiff, it doesn’t just glide across lips as it is firmer bullet. The color lasted for three hours and wasn’t hydrating at all, and the worst part was that the lip color looked like a pilling sweater, where there were pill-shaped globs of lipstick, and those came off almost like flakes. I liked this shade least out of the four I tried, and I was just really disappointed at how poorly it wore. It had the same rose scent and soapy, rose taste as the other shades.

Each lipstick is housed in a glossy black cardboard box with a red velvet shell lining, silk case (it was rougher and I thought it was just plastic mesh, but the brand says it is silk), and the lipsticks have a shimmering, gold ribbon that loops around. The ribbon has two crimped ends, and you’re supposed to simply tie them into a knot, but I wish it was some sort of clasp for better hold. It has moderate heft; not as heavy as Guerlain’s Rouge Gs but certainly not so light that it feels “cheap.” They don’t stand up, and they don’t have the shade name printed on them at all; there is a number printed on the interior tube, but the numbers aren’t readily available online. The packaging itself has a lot of details, and it’s a unique shape and style relative to what we see on the market, but I imagine you have to appreciate the packaging to justify the rest of it. I wish they stood up, because then you could really display them (like the polishes), or perhaps if the top was a removable cover, rather than a lid on a “hinge,” then you could remove the cover and display in the boxes.

So far.. all feeling very lunch bag letdown for me. I’ve caught a few posts with some of the MLBB and lighter nude shades which are rather nice, but still.. I would much rather have the black packaging if I am spending 100 bucks for the lipstick. I wish they had elected to keep the packaging separate from the lipsticks (you pick packaging and then purchase refillable bullets with whatever formula/colour your heart desires). So the jury is still out for me. This one, sadly, entirely forgettable

I just don’t get spending $90 on a C+ rated lipstick when I’ve seen A rated lipsticks costing a third of what this costs or less. I never thought I’d see a lipstick which makes Tom Ford seem like a bargain. I understand having a makeup collection, but who would I impress by buying this? As soon as I told someone the price they would be baffled. To each their own, but definitely not for me.

Oh wow. I saw the picture first (obviously) and fell in love with the color. I thought “if Christine ends up giving this an A, maybe this could be a fun splurge”. Pilling and flaking for this price? No way.

Katherine T. Avatar

The color is pretty, but the formula sounds horrible (pilling, flaking, not hydrating), hope it’s just this one shade. The ingredient list shows fragrance and alcohol, so my wallet is dancing for joy. And that soapy, rose taste might be the ultimate deal-breaker. Is it strong? Does it linger?

Katherine T. Avatar

Oh, gross! It’s a definite deal breaker for me then. I don’t understand why companies put perfume in lipstick, but hey, as long as they keep doing that, my wallet is safe ! I mean I can tolerate a light fragrance on my lips that dissipates, but eating a bar of soap all day long? yuck

Yikes … For the price tag I would expect a++ reviews. Such an outrageous price but that is my opinion…. Your reviews are beyond amazing.

Thank goodness for you, Christine — to cut through the hype over the exquisite packaging and über-chic-ness, and get down to the actual product. The colour pills and flakes?? Someone — or a lot of someones — need to be fired. Seriously.

Amber Avatar

Hi Christine, I don’t want to be the grammar police, but the word is *peeled.* “Pilled,” isn’t even a word. But that sucks that this lipstick is so expensive and is such a dud!

Christine Avatar

I’m actually referring to the product pilling up like a sweater would where it rubs together a lot. More like rolled off into little pill-shaped bits – it looked exactly like sweaters I’ve had that have had that happen so that’s why I described it as such. I’ll certainly clarify to make that clearer.

Jo Avatar

I think if the Louboutin lipsticks were super amazing and brought some magic new formula to the lipstick table then I’d be wowed and understand the launch and price point. Otherwise though, it’s just a lot of hype. The packaging isn’t my style either so that wasn’t what I was interested in. I prefer Chanel simplicity or Guerlain for a more elegant style. Still, makes a Rouge G seem cheap so maybe I’ll get myself another one of those!

Jo Avatar

Yeah I know and do wonder what else they can do now, but I’m waiting for something I wouldn’t think of to blow my socks off! Maybe a lipstick that acts like those pore filling primers but with long wear?

I agree on some and disagree in some respects as well. The price is cray cray, and I still have mixed feelings about the value for the money. I do agree in several respects- for that price pointe, they should have the name and number on them with the option to display them/be able to have them stand up, and I wish they had the black housing instead of the Xmas tree gold ornament appearance. I disagree, however, about the formula. I think it’s rather excellent and most similar to Tom Ford (which, albeit, is half the price nearly). It’s creamy and didn’t pill or flake at all on me. I have a “thing” about taste/scent. I completely agree on Gucci- love the appearance but cannot tolerate the taste/smell. It’s beyond. However, while this to me faintly has the taste of old lady perfume, it’s quite tame and I certainly don’t find it’s ongoing. Not even in the ballpark to me of the Gucci nor is it a dealbreaker as it is to me with Gucci and YSL. This color looked great on you and I think shows how nice and creamy the formula is. I’d rate it A- or B+ and the colors are really beautiful as are the boxes they come in. IMO.

I didn’t try this one, Christine. I have Tutulle and Tres Décolleté. I’m laughing, though, because I went and put it on heavier today than I had when I initially wore it, and I DO taste more soapy perfume! Hah! When I applied it more heavily today, it was more prevalent. Still not Gucci territory, but closer than I realized the day before. So I feel you on the taste situation, but it’s not dissuading me. I really love the formula. I can’t understand why these companies add perfume in lipstick. Eck! Love MAC and TF with the faint vanilla, but I don’t get why anyone wants to taste perfume!

Nancy T Avatar

Okeeey….flaking, pilling like an old sweater, non-hydrating, smelly and tastes of SOAP for $90? Would I even consider buying this? I don’t think so!
Although a shout out to Wwendy is in order; I love, love, LOVE your idea for refillable containers! If they did that, where one could pick a black, gold or perhaps platinum container with the lipstick of their choice, and then purchase refills for say $40-50, this would have been much more intelligent on their part, and more appealing overall!

Nancy T Avatar

I have a feeling that because the casing on this is almost like a piece of jewelry, like an art deco amulet, people really WOULD buy refills. I know I sure would! But I would keep to just one shade that I knew I would use very often.
That SOAP taste, though….yeuck!!!

Stacey Avatar

Yeh. But I never never recall you say the lipstick peeled. I just think something is not right. Before I buy, I usually get a sample for skincare. If I am not able to swatch, I read your reviews and such. I rarely return a used product. In this case, I would return the product.

Ebru Avatar

I really hate to disagree :-/ this is the first shade I tried of the Louboutin lipstick and I love it! I found it to be one of the most comfortable lipsticks I’ve ever worn (probably because it was medium to full pigmentation rather then flat out full) the colour suits me very well as I naturally have lips that pull more purple then pink. I didn’t get any flaking at all, its the reason I’m thinking of getting one of the mattes. I really agree with the refills comment, that would make it much more popular. XxX

The moment I saw this post, I was like Yes! I’ve been wishing you will have a full review & swatches of this ever since your first post about this range a week ago. RonRon was the only one that catches my attention because it really looks pretty on its promo picture (one of my kind of shade) plus I really like its name (I think some of these, including RonRon, are named after their shoe range)

It looks promising in the tube, but then I was disappointed on how poorly it performed and the C+ for $90. I hope they will improve their formula of this and release more purple shades.

Thank you for your review of RonRon, appreciate it, really helps a lot!

“looked like a pilling sweater” lol sounds so funny and sad at the same time. At his price point, I would expect them all to perform like an “A- to A+” consistently throughout the brand.

One thing I really like about Temptalia.com, I can always expect a critical, honest review. I’m not going to lie, sometimes I’ll be in store checking your review before purchasing a new product LOL!
