Vice 4 Palette ($60.00) (Limited Edition)

Some sequels leave you wishing the creators had quit while they were ahead. But the good ones keep you hooked and coming back for more. Urban Decay introduces the long-awaited arrival of Vice4—because there’s no such thing as too much Vice. We loaded this limited-edition palette with 20 addictively gorgeous, never-before-seen shades of our iconic Eyeshadow. Deep brights. Smoky neutrals. Gorgeous mattes. From C-Note (a pale metallic green) and Grip (a really beautiful smoky neutral) to Pandemonium (an amazing plum) and Deadbeat (a black satin that’s like nothing we’ve ever done), this palette has it all. We even included a huge mirror, a double-ended brush AND a coordinating bag.

Our inspiration for Vice4 came from a historical, classic UD source: the vintage shade name Oil Slick! We channeled all the darkly gorgeous, dimensional hues of an oil slick (the inspiration for the original shade) into a palette filled with rich, deep jewel tones. Vice4 features a stunning array of colors AND a wide range of finishes, from buttery-smooth mattes and shimmering metallics to shades laced with micro-glitter. The result? Our best Vice palette yet—and maybe even our best palette EVER. Word to the wise: Snatch this one up quick, because it’s guaranteed to go fast!

Vice4 comes in an extra slim case topped with a dimensional web of broken-down facets layered over a matte black lid. Rich, metallic inks give the case a mesmerizing, oil-slick effect and hint at the shades inside. Use the coordinating bag to keep Vice4 protected (and to keep prying eyes out of your prized palette), or use it to stash your brushes and other makeup essentials. Also included along with the palette: a double-ended Shadow and Crease Brush.

Urban Spectrum Palette ($55.00) (Limited Edition) (Sephora Exclusive)

We couldn’t survive without our everyday black basics (tank tops, skinny jeans, boots and, of course, coffee)—but when it comes to makeup, we’re all about color. Urban Decay introduces Urban Spectrum Eyeshadow Palette. Satisfy your color addiction with a stunning spectrum of 15 shades of our iconic Eyeshadow. Experiment with never-before-seen shades like Flashback (an amazing bright, deep purple), Daybreak (a versatile soft bronze) and Flatline (the perfect metallic pale pink highlighter), as well as cult favorites like Junkie (teal green shimmer). Arranged in a gorgeous ombré rainbow of greens, blues, purples, pinks and neutrals, this LIMITED-EDITION palette is a shadow junkie’s dream.

Having a moment of déjà vu? It’s not you; it’s the case! We modeled the component after our coveted 15-Year Anniversary Eyeshadow Collection, only this time we drenched the whole thing in black. And if you thought that palette was amazing, you’ll go nuts for Urban Spectrum. With a veritable rainbow of shades, the combinations are endless! Match up the carefully coordinated trios or go wild and mix them up. We loaded Urban Spectrum with five totally new shades, four of the most popular shades from our current collection, and six returning favorites from past palettes (like the original Book of Shadows, The Vice Palette and Vice 2).

Urban Spectrum comes in a stunning, collectible black case with a smoky gray, faceted “UD” jewel and laser-cut, filigreed edges. The detachable lid houses a full-size mirror and stands up on its own—perfect for on-the-go touchups. Since a palette this gorgeous should live on long after the shadows are gone, we built Urban Spectrum to last! When you’re done with the shadows, remove the tray and use the velvet-lined box to stash jewelry and other mementos.

Edited on 10/20/15 at 2:30PM PST: I just received an answer regarding availability on this palette (I emailed my long-time contact this morning), in brief: launches in their freestanding stores today but nothing online until early 2016. Yes, 2016. All of the palettes were sent to bloggers as a UD.com exclusive but apparently there was a change in distribution and now it is a Sephora exclusive.

24/7 Waterline Eye Pencil ($20.00) (New, Permanent)

Every once in a while, something comes along that changes everything, and THIS is one of those times. Urban
Decay introduces 24/7 Waterline Eye Pencil—a liner like no other. Developed specifically for use on the inner rim
in the waterline (and fully legit), this creamy, demi-matte pencil lays down waterproof color that lasts ALL day.

Line just your waterline or use this pencil to tight-line in between your lashes too. Even creamier than our original bestselling 24/7 Eye Pencil (yes, really!), this formula glides on easily and goes anywhere you want to put it. And
after the color sets, it won’t budge. We’re launching this pencil in five never-before-seen shades; once you try it,
you’ll want them all! Never considered using anything but black in the waterline? Steal Wende’s trick and try one
of our colorful shades for a look that really stands out.

I’m liking the Vice 4 Palette mainly because of the two warm matte shades…Bitter (transition) and Delete (crease). I don’t own any of the Vice palettes and this may need to be my first one. It all depends on the swatches.

A Avatar

I hope at least one of the palettes break the trend of recent UD palettes being sub par – I’d like a big palette to try out shades I wouldn’t normally and holiday is the perfect time to splurge.

Katie Avatar

I hope everyone’s so distracted because of the Vice 4 palette that they forget to buy the Urban Spectrum palette, because that sucker is mine! I wish UD would make the Stash eyeshadow from Vice 2 permanent. I still regret talking myself out of buying that palette because Stash and the jewel tone colors were so gorgeous. 🙁

Alice Avatar

The funny thing is I JUST broke down and bought the Naked Smoky palette, but if Vice 4 looks as amazing as it seems, I might have to make an exception and snag that little beauty too.

Nikki Avatar

I need another palette like I need another pair of shoes. I totally don’t, but I love the colors in both. I can’t wait to see how they swatch. Holiday collections come earlier and earlier each year.

Katherine T. Avatar

I’m liking the looks of the second palette. I was already eyeing Evidence and Omen, so so more cost effective if they came in a palette

jaz Avatar

I’m leaning towards the spectrum palette because of the fact it’s 5 new shades in it. Although, I’m interested to see how a green, pink, and peach eye would come together. I’m not sure if I can spare 115 +tax for both

cat carson Avatar

Dammit! I was hoping to resist UD this year but if that Spectrum palette performs well, I could get rid of almost my whole collection of random singles from random brands. Is Flashback different from Flash (one of my fave colors ever)? And if the liners actually work they look fab!

Nicole Avatar

I really hope these palettes can out do the recent UD ones and call to the ones of the former years. I really am most interested in the waterline pencil as UD can do some great pencils. Geesh, Holiday in September! C’mon, can we at least have Halloween first?

Badgerpaws Avatar

Those waterline pencils… Yes. I tried using their normal pencils on my waterline and I got a reaction…. Just like with EVERY pencil I wear there. My eyes are sooooo sensitive. I’ll bite, urban decay, I’ll bite…

Kalli Avatar

I love the Spectrum palette, but ugghhh I already have like half the colors from the 15th Anniversary and Vice 1. The new Vice is nice too, but a lot of the shades look really similar to ones I have in the old Book of Shadows. I guess I’ll be saving money this holiday season!

WARPAINTandUnicorns Avatar

I love to see Fast-Ball and Flame again, but for just those two shades it’s a pass on the Vice 4. After getting the original Vice I passed it one to someone else as well, as I liked the shades but was only in love with two of them Blitz and Penny Lane. Junkie is back in the Spectrum though so I’m happy to get it again.

I haven’t bought a Vice palette since though. lol

moonlightkiss Avatar

I’m loving that spectrum box! And I’m curious about those water line pencils. I’m not sure they’re really necessary but I’ll be paying attention to your review of them for sure.

WARPAINTandUnicorns Avatar

How I missed that 15th Anniversary box!!! haha

But yes, now that Urban decay is opening a .ca store I’m super excited for the Urban Spectrum Palette even with the duplicate shadow (Deep End, Evidence, and Omen) because it is loaded with permanent colour at full size.

And you can Depot the tray. 😉 And after I got the depotted tray, I actually get more use out of the shades as I pack the ones I need that day/week or for travel into a Z palette.

24/7 Waterline Eye Pencil description makes me laugh, these shades we have seen before, but it’s the formula claim I’m interested in. Street looks so nice though for a different green. O_o

Lacey Avatar

What method did you use to depot the tray? I wanted to just put the whole tray in a palette as-is because that box is so cumbersome, but my Z Palette was just a smudge too small. I was afraid to start digging into the tray itself!

Laura Avatar

There was a time when I’d buy this outright, but I need to see your review first before I’ll buy these two palettes. Their last few palette releases were not the same formula I’ve come to love from UD, so I’m hesitant.

xamyx Avatar

I will definitely pick up Vice 4, and possibly Spectrum-provided UD has their act together with the website this time around… At least they’re releasing with a good month in between, LOL!

Nika2799 Avatar

I want it all?‼️Except for the Naked Illuminator.I have the original 15 year anniversary palette and really want this one cause I broke Voodoo in my other palette and couldn’t replace it until now!

Christina Avatar

The Spectrum palette peaked my interest but I’m really excited to try the waterline eyeliner. I have yet to find a eyeliner that does not disappear from my waterline. I wish it was launching sooner so I can test it out.

xamyx Avatar

I habe a Teflon watrline, but I’ve had good luck with Essence Long Wearing Eyeliner! At $3, it may be worth a try. I’m hesitant to try a “waterline” pencil after trying the one from tarte a while back, and while it swatched beautifully, no pigment transferred to the eye. At least I got ot free, and use it for my brows, LOL!

Alecto Avatar

Oddly, waterline pencils seem both totally unnecessary and absolutely necessary.

And while I’m really liking the looks of the Spectrum palette, the colors of the top three rows make me veeeeerrry nervous. As in, those are the colors that every company — including UD — have so much trouble with. I’m feeling a bit pessimistic about this one.

Quinctia Avatar

We’ll have to see how Spectrum reviews, but, in my opinion, Junkie, Deep End, Madness, Evidence, Prank, Omen, and Voodoo were very nice the first time around! Those were all in the 15th Anniversary, Vice 1 & 2 palettes, and are my types of colors.

I’m not getting the Spectrum palette, but it’s got my favorite types of colors in it!

Nancy T Avatar

Ok, so when I woke up this morning, the date on my phone said SEPTEMBER 1st?!?! Not even October 1st!
I am not sure how I feel about these. Vice 4 has beautiful shades that I know I’d wear, BUT nearly every single one has glitter or micro-glitter. The Spectrum palette looks so fresh and colorful, however it has shades that I already have. *sigh*

Becca Avatar

FINALLY! My decisions for palette purchases lies in your hands. No one is as thorough or honest as you, Christine, and as a consumer who spends entirely too much money at Sephora, I really appreciate that you and your staff do this. I get sick of reviews along the lines of “Well, this isn’t unique, it isn’t amazing, and doesn’t blend well, but golly, it’s so pretty and look at the band name! You should by it! Yay!” I want honesty and if a prestige brand performs poorly, I know you’ll let us know about it.

Katherine T. Avatar

Oh, I missed seeing the waterline pencils the first time! Hah, we’ll see if they hold up on my wet, Teflon waterline. Their regular 24/7 pencils don’t even hold up on my oily lids, much less the waterline. I hope they do, but we’ll see………

Hannah Avatar

It’s funny because I first saw this on my phone and thought, “Hmm, looks like a bunch of shades from Vice 3.” But now that I’m on my computer, the 1985 looks less like a berry, grasshopper looks darker, and beatdown looks indigo instead of navy blue…so I look forward to seeing this in stores. I really hope the quality is better than the Vice 3, which only has about 3 shades I can use without primer.
I will probably buy it even if the quality is so-so though. I love big palettes because I can experiment with colors that wouldn’t entice me form a trio or 6-pan. None of my five favorite shades from Vice 3 are the shades that compelled me to buy the palette 🙂
They were still selling Vice 3 in June, so no rush. Ha.

Justine Avatar

I will be passing on both of these palettes as I have so many Urban Decay palettes that I feel like there is a lot of similar colours in my collection. Though Junkie is one of my fave eye liners and I am intrigued by the shadow. I’m very interested to see how well the waterline pencils perform since nothing ever stays on mine.

koolchicken Avatar

Well, I guess I now know what I’ll be spending the hundreds of dollars I’ve been stocking piling in Ulta rewards on! Goodbye rainy day fund!

spingus Avatar

How do UD shadows compare to Kat Von D’s shadows?

For me it is a choice between the Spectrum palette and the KVD Mi Vida Loca palette coming out. Are her shadows comparable in quality to the UD ones?

Carrie Avatar

I saw the sneak peeks before I saw this post! Definitely getting Vice 4. Tough decision between the two but I feel like I would get more use out of V4 and it seems to be the better deal.

El Avatar

I will almost certainly get Vice 4. Not that interested in Spectrum; I have some of the repromotes, and as others have pointed out, there are several more which are basically duped in Vice 4.

I’ll probably try the eyeliner, too, although I don’t wear anything on my waterline so it’d be just a regular pencil. But Street looks like an interesting colour!

Vanessa Avatar

Love the packaging from the Vice 4 palette, but I’m not wowed by the color selection. The Spectrum palette on the other hand, love, love, love the colors!!! The first 3 rows are so pretty and are my favorite! A little part of me hopes it doesn’t do so well because there are going to be so many LE holiday sets to choose from, lol! I also want those waterline eyeliners. I’ve yet to find one that lasts more than 30 min without fading away.

Agrona Avatar

I’m really disappointed in sync irritated by the waterline pencils. Not only are they totally ineffective to their described purpose, they are absolutely useless as plain old pencils.

I ‘ve honestly never had pencils this awful before, from any line or price point. I honestly feel duped and tricked, because there’s no way these got through QC with everyone thinking they were performing as described.
