Giorgio Armani Eye Tints — I figured I’d pick something that was really new, new in formula (well, at least not typical!). I wore them recently, and they’re still amazing. I used them as eyeshadows!

Seconded on the Colourpop highlighters! So good.

I’ve also been using that Wet n Wild bronzer/highlighter in Reserve Your Cabana all over my face (not every day, though). I’ve been a bit hesitant with all over face powder products, in the past, but this one I really can just swirl on everywhere. I just tone down the shimmer a bit under my cheeks with a mattifying, subtle bronzer and voila!

Tom Ford “Runway Color”. I think I read it described somewhere as “milk chocolate” eye shadow. But, as I suspect, it is a somewhat tiny, pricier version of Bobbi Brown’s Pot rouge in a flattering shade of brick (brownish red) Now that I own it, I am making it work. It is actually quite versatile, used on eyes, cheeks, and lips.

There have been a few recent eyeshadow acquisitions that at first wasn’t sure how to get them to work, until I stumbled on, for example, CP Bae on the out v and into the crease working beautifully with UD Tonic on the whole inner lid with CP Girly on inner corner, UD Dive Bar on lower lid line. Very ethereal and almost sci-fi! (And for the transition, I used that mauvey matte in Lorac Unzipped)

Hourglass Diffused Light as an under-eye brightener / highlight. Wish I had bought it sooner, but whenever I swatched it in Sephora it was really sparkly, but the one I ordered online has no sparkle at all. Weird. Good thing, the sparkles wouldn’t look good under the eyes!

*I’m with you on the Armani Eye Tints! Nice for soft wash of color, built up for drama, or as a base to intensify and extend the wear on powder shadows. When all other primers fail, I turn to these. Wish they came in matte or skintone colors.
*Peachy blushes and peachy lipsticks (from Colour Pop, Too Faced, Maybelline Creamy Mattes). I never thought peach would look good on me, but it’s a matter of finding the right shade that doesn’t wash me out or clash with my skintone.
*Disney Dare to Dream Luminizing Stick in Free Spirit ($3) as cream highlighter or to convert powder blushes to cream blushes. Too bad it’s LE.
*Wet N Wild Fergie Shimmer Palette in Hollywood Blvd ( $ 5) for shimmery gold highlights, and the pink leopard print design is so cute.

I was sooo surprised about the Disney highlighter (the pocahontas one right?)!! It looks so beautiful, and blends in nicely but still has a lot of reflection. It’s beautiful under Wet N Wild in Reserve Your Cabana.

Katherine T. Avatar

Yesss!! I have nice highlighters from Becca, Colour Pop, MAC, but I think the Disney one might be my fave right now, and it’s $3! I bought a backup. Can’t believe it’s LE, they need to make that permanent

I was going to say my Armani Eye Tint in 8 Flannel even before I read your response. It has been pretty much the only eye shadow I have used for months. I use it as a wash of color over the lid and blended up into my crease a bit. I really need to see these in person (a bit hard in my area) and get a few more, the formula is exceptional.

I do not have much in the way of time for makeup these days so I surprisingly found a BB cream which actually works for my skintone (I do lighten colour with a dot of CoverFx drops). Missha Perfect Cover BB. It runs a bit dewy in the extreme heat, but provides enough cover to eliminate the worst of the splotchy and ruddy patches on my cheeks and chin and yet still lets a bit of skin peek through to look healthy and not overly made up. I use this, fix my crazy arsed multi-directional patchy evil brows a bit and I’m done.

Oh, and a really excellent sunscreen lipbalm called TiZO Solar Protection Formula LIPTECT SPF 45.. it is light beige in colour and really quite pretty on the lips and instantly provides a wash of moisture. It does double duty in that it can be tucked into a pocket to to serve as touch up on the go for nose, ear tips or other small areas that are delicate and attract a lot of sun.

I got a sample of a Bare Minerals lipgloss (it was in a VIB gift bag I received) and I’m really liking it. It’s in the colour Maverick which, to my surprise, is a perfect colour for me. The “plumping”, menthol aspect of it isn’t a problem for me (thought I could easily see how it could be for many people) and I’m surprised by how pigmented and long-lasting it is.

I recently ordered the new ELF Instant Lift Brow Pencil and I’m loving it. Use the shade neutral brown in the head of the brow and deep brown in the tail. This pencil gives me the hair-like strokes like my NYX Micro Brow and Anastasia Brow Wiz. The only down side to the pencil is the spoolie sucks! But I don’t mind using a separate one because the product is still great. So basically, the ELF Brow Pencil ($2) is a dupe for the NYX Micro Brow ($10) and the NYX Micro Brow is a dupe for the Anastasia Brow Wiz ($21).

Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipsticks. Ugh, these are so good! The colours, the texture, the not-too-matteness. Bittersweet is my favourite. How am I using them? A lot. ?

Tessa Avatar

Ooooh! Mustn’t forget to mention that maybe six months ago, I finally boy the bullet and started mixing plain white foundation (which I got on Amazon, of all places!) with regular pale foundation, and FINALLY can match my skintone without stress. I don’t know why I was so hesitant before. I was afraid of it being clumpy or weird or bad for my skin, or not mixing well, or… I don’t even know. But it’s not; it’s FANTASTIC! It’s weird to reflect on how much I used to stress about foundation color. Somehow it felt more difficult and personal than figuring out lip color or whatever — maybe cause it’s my actual skin, like, the color of ME as a human.

Tessa Avatar

Oh, buying this stuff was the best move ever! I’m not sure it is super great for your skin, but I’ve used it for up to about a 40% split (with other “real” foundation making up the 60 % — of course, the lighter you start, the less pure white you’ll need), and as long as I wash my face properly, no breakouts on my dry yet acne prone skin.

I know there are other brands, but this is the one I got: http://www.amazon.com/Manic-Panic-Dreamtone-Foundation-Vampire/dp/B0026IMJ8A

Kat Avatar

The Manic Panic one has a good reputation! I personally don’t need it, since I’m the perfect shade match to MAC’s NC15 95% of the time, but if I really pale up this winter I may need to get it. A friend of mine who’s about the shade of skim milk uses the Manic Panic with great success!

Nicole Avatar

The KVD Featherweight primer. I just got a sample over the weekend. Who would have thought young and gorgeous KVD is making a great primer for my dry 39 year old skin! I don’t use it on my t-zone. I use MUFE’s smoothing for that. It is replacing my $80 a bottle Tom Ford primer. It is around $34 and keeps my skin supple and the makeup nice and fresh!

Katherine T. Avatar

Ooh, I need to check that out! I think I got a sample from my Sephora order. My skin’s combo right now, but during winter, it needs a more hydrating primer.

Nicole Avatar

Girl..my skin is the Sahara in winter! I am hoping the KVD layered with my usual oil and moisturizer will do it. Last year I did resort to Hourglass’s oil primer once the dead cold of winter set in. Winter is very harsh here in Ohio though. I am combo in summer and then dry the rest of the year. So, if you are ever looking for anything for dry skin issues, just ask. I probably have an answer or am looking! 🙂

Katherine T. Avatar

Good to know! Wow, I heard OH can be brutal, super cold in winter and humid/hot in summer. I’m in a much more temperate climate (CA), but it gets very dry and windy where I live (both outside and inside with the office AC) , so easy to suck all the moisture from my face. In winter, I’ve been using a moisturizing sunscreen (FAB 5-in-1 SPF 30), Laura Mercier Moisture Mist (no alcohol, no fragrance), the IT CC cream ( but I know it didn’t work on you), and sometimes the NYX Dewey Finish Setting Spray –they help but I still need to mist with water a couple of times a day. Any recs? Have you tried the new Josie Maran Nirvana Hydrating mist?

Nicole Avatar

Yes,Ohio has has an awful climate. I would love to move. But,that’s an entirely different story. One day soon. Anywhoo, I am huge on oils. I use face oils year round . In the summer, I lay off during the daytime usually because it does get incredibly humid. You’re right. We literally go from one end of the climate spectrum to the next. I have several oils just because it takes so long to finish. I’d probably go with Sunday Riley Juno or Nude’s oil if I had to choose. Just because of their contents. But, I have Tarte’s too and it’s great and I paid like $25 at Ulta for it. Coconut oil at night made a huge difference for me in the dead of winter last year. Seriously, amazing stuff. Also, Fresh has a new product out. Skin Nutrition Booster. Its really ,really good. I’ve not tried the Josie Maran mist. Right now I’m using up a a few other mists that are all about mediocre. Maybe that’s worth looking into, you think? The best mist I have yet to actually feel hydration from that lasted more than 3 sec. is Amorepacifics and it’s ridiculously priced. Figures, huh?! Oh, I forgot! You probably don’t need this unless your a link is really dehydrated. But, hylauronic acid is awesome too. 🙂

Katherine T. Avatar

Thanks for the recs Nicole! I’ll look out for samples, sales, or kits on those products. I like Josie Argan Light Oil ffor face, and definitely agree with you on coconut oil, cheap and natural too! My hair and skin love it.

Nicole Avatar

Oh..Katherine, another great recent find for my skin has been the Sephora brand sleeping masks. I like honey and pomegranate the best so far. Honey moisturizes and pomegranate really wakes up the skin a bit. I have the lingzhi to try. Such a bargain there.,$4 a pod and I get about 3 uses each .I just tape them up. If it’s been sitting and I forget to use it,I toss it. But I just thought that refrigerating the unused would be a good idea. Just wanted to throw that out there in case your looking for a good mask . Also, there bubble detox mask is just like the Bliss brand at about $30 difference. Loving that too! 🙂 Hope that helped! Winter rolls in here around Oct. ,so I’m sure I’ll have more around that time!:)

Katherine T. Avatar

Nicole, thanks for the tip! I have some of the regular Sephora masks (not the sleeping one). I bought them out of curiosity and also to reach $25 min for beauty insider rewards, but I need to give them a try. And come winter, a honey sleeping mask sounds great because we leave the heater on for the toddler, and I need to slather stuff on my face, or else I wake up looking like a prune.

Nicole Avatar

Your welcome Katherine. I’ve not tried the Sephora sheet masks. I’m sure they are just as good as the others. I was liking sheet masks for a minute in summer. But ,now I’m back to traditional masks. I guess I feel it depends on what your trying to achieve. For example, serum seem to work well with sheet masks and detox and moisturizing I like in a cream, clay based mask. Just my personal thing tho. I do like the eye masks though for tired mornings.I keep a few in the fridge. They are huge so I have to snip them. But, I pop them on while I have my coffee and stumble around and feed the dog and what not. They are pretty good for $5. I like rose, honey, and lingzhi the best so far. Those are good add ons to reach the $25 mark.
Lmk your thoughts on the face masks! 🙂

Well, the question didn’t say “cosmetic product,” so I’m going to answer Paula’s Choice Resist Moisture Renewal Oil Booster. I have a closet full of face products I gave up on because of the texture, finish, etc. (including Paula’s products!), and this oil serum has made many of them usable for me. Face lotions have always been the worst — not creamy enough, not moisturizing enough, don’t hold moisture, too thick, too thin, cause a rosacea reaction, and on, and on, and on. It’s pricey, but it has saved me some money in that I now have a bunch of stuff that I can use. I wish I had discovered it earlier; I shudder to think how many skin-care products I’ve thrown away partially used (yeah, I know, I can return them — but I hate returning things; clearly, a personal issue). I use it by adding anywhere from one to three drops to whatever product I’m putting on. The only thing I haven’t tried to add it to is my foundation, but that’s next on my list to try. (For reference, I have combination-to-oily skin.)

As for cosmetics, my recent triumphs are UD Naked Skin Loose Powder and CP Just A Sip. The Just A Sip I use almost daily with cool eye looks that don’t usually work because of my skin tone. I use it as the transition shade from crease to midway-to-brow, by applying it as a base and letting it peek out from under the cool shadows just at the edge. Amazing what a difference having that warm halo of color makes. What I’d really like is a yellow-based equivalent, something so golden tan that it’s almost olive. Get on it ColourPop!

YSL tint oil in #6 Peach me love
I use it as lipstick, gloss and balm 3 in 1 ! It’s a perfection !
I let it set, cause the colour become more intense within minutes, maybe it has some oxidising property. Then I eat a little or use a tissu to remove just a little of glossiness to make the mlbb look.
It’s light weight, glossy, hydrating, the tint is longlasting and the #6 tints my lips into a pretty bright warm/sunset pink.
I hate colours that darken my lips. My lips look brighter, younger and healthier with it.
It came out this spring, it’s a new product, hope it’s permanent ! I purchased a 2nd one to put in an other purse.
I may need more backup if it’s not permanent ! Hope they keep it and add more colours !

I recently started using my ColourPop highlighter every day, when I first got it I barely used it, but about a week ago I busted it out again and I can’t put it down! I have the shade Smoke N Whistles. It’s a very intense highlight, but because it’s a cream-ish product it just melts into my skin instead of sitting on top and looking unnatural. I’ll usually either leave it bare or set it with WnW Reserve Your Cabana.

I also recently got MAC Paint Pot in Indianwood and have been loving that for a lazy-smear-all-over-the-eye-area-and-still-look-sexy kind of look, but that’s an older product.

Toni Avatar

I’m really loving a lusher palette by Makeup Revolution as the pigment in the colours and highlighter are brilliant considering it only costs £6. Also enjoying my latest find, Graftobian colour corrector palette. I know my eye bags will never be gone but this product really helps me look a lot less tired. ?

Onomie concealer. I use an undereye primer first and then just the teeniest dab of concealer. It stays put all day, no creasing and looks natural, not too opaque or flat and fakey looking.

Not wearing all at once, but lately these are the products I have been rotating into my routine.

Giorgio Armani Eye Tints and Tom Ford Cream Color for Eyes – I love the formulas, the longevity. I don’t know what took me so long. I feel like these are such a good value because you only need to use a very, very small amount.

YSL Touche Eclat Blur Primer – seems to do a great job with making sure my foundation doesn’t move and it doesn’t seem as silicone-heavy as Hourglass’ primer. I have gotten so many compliments on my skin since I’ve started using it a few weeks ago.

Le Blanc De Chanel Multi-Use Illuminating Base – great for a primer also, not as silicone heavy, also can lift a 1/2 a shade of foundation if it’s too dark or warm.

The Maybelline Color Tattoos have been out for a bit, but it’s like I’m just now discovering them. I know this sounds really weird, but I have been using my Maybelline Color Tattoo eyeshadows in 35 Tough as Taupe and 80 Creamy Beige, mixed until desired color is reached, as cream contour for my nose and cheekbones. It makes the most perfectly beautiful contour color in tone, shade, and consistency! And, it doesn’t move until you remove it! I also use a bit of Tough as Taupe for my brows as well as eyes, and Creamy Beige makes the perfect eye base, or as a wash of color on the lid, all blown and smoked out! I really want to get Barely Branded, Barely Beige, Pure Nude, and Inked In Pink. I think Pure Nude would be perfect for inner corner eye and brow bone highlight! If anyone knows any other great ones, please let me know! Thanks!

I recently purchased Nars’ Pasiphae duo eyeshadow and Chanel’s Tisse D’Automne quad. I’m definitely in love with both. The quad is more of my everyday eyeshadow and I use the Nars shadow to make it more of a night look. I didn’t originally intend to use them together, but it’s worked well so far.

I’m not sure if this means newer on the market or just new to me.

*The e.l.f. Studio Mad for Matte Eyeshadow Palette is really nice. I can do a variety of eye looks, plus the taupe works as a contour shade for me, and one of the browns works for my brows.
*Sephora Tranquil is a the best contour shade I’ve found for my very fair skin.
*Wet n Wild Reserve Your Cabana is a lovely bronzer for me. I can actually use it all over my face!
*bhCosmetics Art Pop Lipstick: I bought most of the shades, and plan to get the rest. The formula is super-creamy and smooth. Excellent pigmentation and opacity. There are some unusual colors (mint green, creamsicle orange, a couple of really good blackened purples. Several are Lime Crime dupes.

New to me: Nyx Prismatic Eyeshadows. I love them packed on the lids for super-metallic shine. The darker shades work well sheered on the crease. Frostbite is a great highlighter for the browbone, inner corner and even on the cheekbones. My favorite is Mermaid. It’s gorgeous sheer as a highlight, on glitter glue base for even more duochrome effect, on white base for more of opacity and less duochrome. It’s amazing over a black base, it turns a deep peacock blue-green duochrome. I like to wear it on the lid and use Jaded in the outer V and the crease. Stunning.

Colourpop Ultra Matte Lips. Easy application, great staying power, and georgous colors. I just placed another order so I’ll have all the colors! And based on everyone’s recommendation grabbed some of their highlighters as well. Never would have discovered this great brand without this blog!

Dreamer19 Avatar

My latest discovery is MAC Sheen Supreme lipstick. I bought Ultra Darling. I can’t get over the formula AND the color! Love it! It’s moisturizing, surprisingly long lasting and it’s an amazing everyday color for me right now.
