Bite Beauty Opal Creme Lipstick Review, Photos, Swatches

Bite Beauty Opal Creme Lipstick
Bite Beauty Opal Creme Lipstick

Bite Beauty Opal Creme Lipstick ($24.00 for 0.14 oz.) is described as an “ultraviolet” with an “iridescent finish.” It’s a cool-toned, icy lavender with a pink-to-blue-violet sheen and a soft, frosted finish. I couldn’t think of a lot of dupes for this, and all of the ones I’ve seen were also limited edition! Dolce and Gabbana Ametista (LE, $33.00) is darker, more pigmented. NARS Tender Night (LE, $25.00) is less shimmery, less glossy. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

This shade is described as a “two-tone pearl, sheer cream lipstick” that can be used alone or layered on top of another lip color. It is exactly as described: sheer with a strong, iridescent sheen. It covers fairly evenly, and the color and reflective sheen is noticeable when worn alone–I think it is absolutely wearable on its own. It can be layered under gloss or lipstick, though with lipstick it can also be patted over it for a more pronounced iridescence (it will often get overwhelmed if you apply a lipstick on top of it). The texture is thin, lightweight, and lightly emollient. It lasted for three hours on its own and was lightly hydrating. The formula has a sweet, fruity scent, like other Bite lip products.

P.S. — I’ll have the gloss reviewed shortly! Stay tuned!

I had a pot gloss like this from Claire’s or Two Plus Two (or some other teen jewelry/accessory mall shop) back in the late 80s or early 90s. In the pot it was white with a purple opalescent sheen, that was an amazing opal on the lips. I remember buying a couple backups. I wish I could find something like it again.

I actually really like this on its own! I’m sure mileage varies depending on your natural lip color, but it’s still a lot nicer than I expected for something that was designed to be a topper (mostly). I feel like I had a MAC lipstick similar to this, but it may have been just a silver shimmer. I don’t think I used it much.

This is such a beautiful, unique shade! I wish it was permanent for those who like it. I personally don’t think I could pull it off but I’m sure I’m one of few. It’s great that it’s also hydrating and multifunctional.

I liked Opal Lipstick much better than the Gloss. There’s a bluish-white sheen to the the pink/purple shimmer, so I can’t wear it alone as it’s too cool for my skintone. But it provides a subtle, pretty opal sheen when applied over lipsticks, especially matte ones. Over glossier lipsticks, it was harder to see the sheen, so I’m going to try your suggestion, patting it on. I think Opal Lipstick is a unique, useful, and fun lippie to play with. For me, it added a sheen and hydration to matte lipsticks, lightened up my lipsticks by 1/2 shade, and added a pinkness to lipsticks, especially nude ones. My favorite looks were putting it over matte purple and pink lipsticks. If you really want to see the opal sheen “pop”, add Opal Lipstick to the stain left behind from BITE Plum or Barberry. And this can work over other lipstains too. This is a fun one!

Now I”m even more excited about getting it Katherine! I appreciate your comments. Plum and Barberry were the two that I liked the best in the Frozen Berries collection.

I keep going back and forth on whether or not to buy it. I have a lot of matte shades this would look gorgeous layered over to give them more dimension, but I’m afraid it’ll look too similar to MAC Siren Song to justify the price. Comparing the swatches it’s a lot more purple than SS on bare lips, but I think since I’d mainly wear it layered, it wouldn’t be enough of a difference. I’m pretty sure I’ll pass, even though it is very pretty.

This looks so cool as a topper over a bright lipstick like you’ve shown here! Perfect transformer! On its own, it’s nice, but probably wouldn’t work on me too great because my lips have a pigmented mauvey-browny tone, and they sometimes look bluish all on their own.

LOL!! When I wore it alone with the slight blue sheen, I looked like I had hypothermia. But I do like it over other lippies….

This looks sort of like the Lipstick Queen Ice Queen…. which I was interested in but not for a high end lipstick price. I heard that the Nivea Kiss of Shimmer lip balm was a close dupe so I bought that and definitely didn’t like the way it looked on me. So perhaps that would be a drugstore option for people who want to try out this look without paying the high end lipstick price for it 🙂 This one might be a little more blue though.

I had a couple of different lipsticks back in the late-80s/early-90s that were extremely similar. They were off-brands, and probably cost about $1, and I layered them over black or sapphire lipstick.

Nancy T Avatar

I had those back in the 80’s, too! They were great as toppers over literally ANY lipstick color that was around back then. Ah, nostalgia!

I googled it, and it was an NYX Round lipstick. But I think it’s been discontinued, as I can’t find it anywhere except on Amazon & Ebay. It’s not even on NYX’s website. Oh bummer, was hoping there would be a cheaper dupe out there

Pami Avatar

Swoon! I’m in love!!! It looks so pretty by itself, and terrific over LG Dragon Fruit. I’m going to have so much fun playing with it. Thank you Christine! I just bought it! Through your blog 🙂

Ginny Avatar

So beautiful! I just bought two! I’m doing my friend’s wedding soon and I’ve been thinking about what to use as everyone’s lip color because the girls aren’t regular makeup wearers. I don’t want to give them lips that are too bold or too glossy/sticky, but I need something to stand out in photos. I can dab this over some subtle lip liners or stains. This came just in time 🙂

Lara Avatar

Lancome had a juicy tubes just like this, and maybe Revlon too. I think I got rid of them both bc
they were more of a cute idea that didn’t really work for me

Jana Avatar

Oh man! I hope I can somehow get this in New Zealand! I used to have a lipgloss exactly like this and I loved it… Until one day I had it in my pocket and it broke 🙁 YAY!

Cat Avatar

I am so on the fence over this. It’s been sitting in my Sephora cart waiting for your review, but I still can’t decide! My understanding is that it’s beautiful when applied over a lipstick that has mostly worn away but has left a bit of a stain behind. The fact that it’s a bit hydrating also makes me want it as many of the lip colors I use can be drying. The only downside I can think of is that these tend to melt. However, since it rarely gets above 85° here, I don’t think that’s going to be a problem. (<<– I do a pretty good job of talking myself into these things…)

Candice Avatar

That’s pretty cool! It does have that look from back in whatever fashion era but I like that. Cute on its own, really lovely over another lipstick! Nice finish 🙂

Nicole Avatar

I ordered this last night after reading Katherine T.’s comments in free for Haul Friday. I have the gloss sitting in a box to try too. I really like this. I can’t wait to try it out! Hopefully, Bite will add it to the permanent line.

Lacy Avatar

I rarely ever comment but I love this lipstick! I almost think I have a close drugstore dupe or two from an old L’oreal colour riche balm limited edition release of a pastel collection a couple years ago. They were all pastel colors but the blue one and another had a very similar effect. I’ll have to dig them out and see but I’m pretty sure I’m headed to Sephora asap to snatch this up!
