Maybelline Baby Lips Lipgloss
Maybelline Baby Lips Lipgloss ($4.49 for 0.18 fl. oz.) is a new formula that’s supposed to be shiny, non-sticky, and hydrating for four hours with twelve shades divided into three finishes. I’m reviewing them based on finish, so this post features the four shimmery shades. They’re lightweight, mostly non-sticky (a very slight tackiness develops after two to three hours of wear), wear for one to three hours, and are comfortable and hydrating. The formula has a sweet, fruity-floral scent that tastes like perfume-y soap during the entire length of wear; I could taste it just talking to someone, and it ruined anything I ate or drank. The shimmer in these shades is noticeable in texture, though they are fine enough not to feel particularly gritty, but the thinner consistency made them apparent on the lips. They were comfortable to wear, though, and they don’t feel heavy and keep and maintain hydration going for an hour or two after most of the gloss has worn away. The formula is sheer with a lot of shades looking the same once applied, but they may vary wildly from person to person due to much of it being dependent on your natural lip color.
Maybelline Just a Glimmer Baby Lips Lipgloss ($4.49 for 0.18 fl. oz.) is a clear gloss with iridescent, pink, lavender, and silver shimmer with a glossy shine. It lasted for two hours on me and was hydrating overall. MAC Beautiful Moves (LE, $22.00) is warmer. MAC Oh My Darling (LE, $15.00) is more shimmery, warmer. MAC Steel Kiss (LE, $15.00) is warmer. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Maybelline A Wink of Pink Baby Lips Lipgloss ($4.49 for 0.18 fl. oz.) is silver and pink sparkle suspended in a barely-there pink-tinted base with warmer undertones. It gives my natural lip colors a darker, redder look with warmth. It only lasted for two hours, even though it was moisturizing when worn. MAC Rags to Riches (P, $20.00) is more shimmery, lighter, brighter, warmer. Giorgio Armani #500 (P, $29.00) is more shimmery, lighter. Chanel Allegorie (LE, $29.50) is more shimmery, lighter. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Maybelline Fuchsia Flicker Baby Lips Lipgloss ($4.49 for 0.18 fl. oz.) is a light, cool-toned pink-tinted base with lighter pink sparkle. This was another shade that wore for two hours on me but was still moisturizing. MAC Happily Ever After (LE, $15.00) is more shimmery, lighter. MAC Pagoda (P, $20.00) is more shimmery. MAC Pagoda (P, $20.00) is more shimmery. Maybelline Blushing Petal (505) (P, $8.99) is more shimmery, lighter. Chanel Eau de Rose (86) (LE, $27.00) is more shimmery, lighter. MAC Fashion Scoop (P, $20.00) is less shimmery, lighter. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Maybelline Lilac Lumi Baby Lips Lipgloss ($4.49 for 0.18 fl. oz.) is a light-medium, pinky-lavender with lighter violet iridescent shimmer. This was the most pigmented of the four shimmery shades, and this shade had noticeable color applied, though it was still semi-sheer coverage. It wore well for three hours on me and was hydrating over time. Marc Jacobs Beauty Pink Steam (322) (P, $28.00) is less shimmery. Gucci Beauty Potent Violet (P, $32.00) is less shimmery. MAC Reckless Desire (LE, $15.00) is less shimmery, lighter. Shiseido Nebula (VI207) (P, $25.00) is lighter, brighter, more pigmented. MAC Vacant (LE, $15.00) is more pigmented. See comparison swatches/ compare dupes side-by-side.

Holy sheerness! But you can definitely see the shimmer in the lilac shade.
Lilac Lumi is the most noticeable alone – you can see how iridescent the shimmer is!
The shine & shimmer in these look great to use as an inexpensive topper for lipstick…but that taste sounds awful! Well, for 5 bucks, I might give lilac lumi a try to see if I can deal!
That would be my pick!
I really like the purple one but I think you scared me off with the taste. Darn.
Aww 🙁
Ehh, too sheer for me! And the fact that you could taste it when you drank? Uh… gross!
Soapy coffee… delicious!
OMG – The shimmer! I love it! DEFINITELY have to grab some of these soon as I see them – I am loving the lilac especially. Thanks for sharing!
My pleasure, Jordan!
They all seems quite the same clear gloss with shimmer…i dont think it is worth it to buy multiple shades. If you have one then you have them all lol. I am looking forward to purchasing one, the clear one looks like a great lipstick topper.
Yep! One or two but you probably don’t need to worry about getting them all!
half of my friends like this because they’re hydrated and give a shine to the lip, another half hate this because of barely there colors of this lip gloss make them look all similar with each other.I still don’t try this yet and I think I far too familair with pigmented lipgloss more though. Are you gonna reviews some creamy shades too?
Hey!
I mentioned in the beginning of the post that I will be reviewing all of them and have them broken out by finish.
Pretty! Super subtle though, but pretty.
Subtle for sure!
Ugh, that flavor/smell sounds terrible! Thank you so much for always mentioning stuff like that–these will be an easy pass for me.
No prob, Heather!
Wish A Wink of Pink was a little more opaque – that would have been STUNNING! <3
It would have been more interesting for sure!
I think I’ll pass on this, especially upon hearing how strongly it tastes! No, thank you.
Same 🙁
Have absolutely no idea why Maybelline came out with 12 of these, when they all look like clear glosses with some shimmer. It’s a shame some of them look so pretty in the container, but turn out to be clear. I mean why bother? Just put on some petroleum jelly or carmex lip balm.
I wish they’d put out less shades if they were going to be so similar!
You really can’t tell them apart on the lips except for the last one. I’m a bit disappointed that they’re so sheer.
Yep! You don’t need ’em all for this formula.
Rats. I was hoping they wouldn’t be sheer. I do like the sparkle in Glimmer and Lilac Lumi. They’d make nice toppers.
If they put a little more tint, I think they’d be more differentiated!
Isn’t that so often the case with glosses? Ah well, those who don’t like a lot of color will enjoy them.
I am just loving Just A Glimmer and Lilac Lumi! These would make for some really cool toppers over lipstick! GORGEOUS!
I think Lilac Lumi is the best one – the most interesting even alone!
I’m surprised they got B’s, to me they are total fails
They’re supposed to be sheer, and they’re hydrating – but they get into that sheer vs. clear territory and are short-wearing.
They all look almost exactly the same.
They are very similar on, unfortunately!
I’m so glad you mentioned the scent and taste of these! I can’t stand perfumey/soapy-tasting products. I will have to steer clear of these. 🙁 And they don’t look that great. Too sheer and not enough color.
I hear ya! I’d prefer taste-free! I don’t need my lip products to taste like something, lol!
Sure wish these lasted a little longer!
Me too! 🙁
Wasn’t looking forward to this product but just hearing that it has that fruity/perfume taste and smell that the elixers have is just ew. I hate the elixers.
Yeah, you won’t like these if you don’t like the Elixir taste, lol!
I’ve been wanting Surratt Lip Lustre in Amethyste really, really badly and Sephora has been out for ages. Lilac Lumi looks to be a good enough dupe (looks like more pigment based on the dupe comparison), but the price is right to tide me over while I wait! I haven’t gotten anything from Maybelline before, but I might have to change that!
Thanks for reviewing these!
No problem! 😀 Happy to help!
Tastes like “perfumey soap the entire length of wear”?!?! Then ruined everything Christine ate or drank?!? Sorry, Mabelline, nope, no thanks, I won’t be buying unless I want to start wearing this lipgloss as punishment in lieu of putting a dollar in The Swear Jar every time I let something rude fly out in polite company ( just like when my Mom used to scrub a wet toothbrush on a bar of Ivory soap to wash the naughty words out of my little mouth….Bleagh!)
I do appreciate the things you must endure to bring us these wonderful reviews, Christine! Hopefully, someday, these cosmetics manufacturers will get a visit from The Clue Fairy when it comes to putting strong PERFUME in their lippies… and STOP.
It’s such a bummer! I always wonder why they have a taste – I feel like no taste is best, regardless of it tasting good or bad, but I don’t really want any random taste!
Lilac Lumi is really pretty! I love the glitter.
Yay!
Do you find Lilac Lumi makes your teeth look whiter?
Not really!
Soap/perfume flavor? That’s a big nope! Even if they’re moisturizing and have pretty shimmer.
I hear you!! It’s hard for me to wear Dior Fluid Sticks for the same reason.
Oh gosh – I can’t stop laughing, because I quickly read over “Fuscia Flicker” and thought I had read a really bad word! I do enjoy the look of these products, which is surprising since I’m not a huge lip gloss fan. Something about the glitter reminds me of my youth, maybe. 🙂
LOL!
All of these glosses look identical to me. What’s the point of having a variety of shades in “sparkly clear”? Maybelline could’ve added a bit more pigment. I wouldn’t buy these.
I don’t think they needed to have so many shades if they were going to make them as similar as these – don’t mind the sheerer quality necessarily but then you don’t need to release four of the same at once!
I’m not a gloss girl… I SO wish Maybelline hadn’t discontinued the Color Whisper line of lipsticks!!! They were so pigmented (well, depending on the shade) and glided on so weightlessly with their wax-free formula! Baby Lips balms come close but not quite. They were so popular and had such a wide range of colors, I really don’t know why they had to discontinue them :'(
Awww! 🙁
they pretty much all look the same on the lips! I don’t like the packaging either somehow, it looks very tacky, like the lipglosses one buys when they’re 11.
Right? They are super similar, unfortunately! Some people like colorful packaging, others don’t – think it’s more of your style or preference, but it doesn’t make anyone tacky for liking these, regardless of whether they’re 11 or 101! 🙂
I do like Just a Glimmer, but the fact that they have a perfume-y soap taste to them, makes me think I will pass on these.
It’s SO annoying to taste it all day 🙁
I will skip these!
Gotcha!
It sounds like the taste and fragrance are going to completely rule these out for me! I find I can’t use most drugstore lip products because of how they smell.
I hear you! They can be so off-putting 🙁
