Round-up: NYX Intense Butter Gloss Overview & Thoughts
NYX Intense Butter Glosses ($5.99 for 0.27 fl. oz.) are a richer, more opaque gloss with a cream finish and a glossy shine. When NYX nails the formula, it’s really good, but there are some misses. My favorites were Spice Cake (A), Chocolate Crepe (A-), Apple Crisp (A-), and Toasted Marshmallow (A-). They wore around four hours on average and weren’t drying (nor hydrating) with a light vanilla scent but no taste. They’re heavier than the original Butter Gloss formula, and they’re lightly tacky.

Opaque Gloss isn’t my thing but these look so pretty! I really like the look of Toasted Marshmellow, Spice Cake and Chocolate Crepe in particular (which I’ve just noticed matches up pretty well with your picks too!)
I like how some of their shades are muted – makes them more unique!
Great round up! Overall they seem great and many love their glosses and these! I wish my lips tolerated them & my nose tolerated the smell! I could easily spend $100 on many of these to find I can’t use them or $100 on a few that I can use continuously & mix colors.. Unfortunately, the latter is my only option due to lip sensitivity.
Better to spend money on products you’ll use 🙂
I feel that way, too. But it would be great if the products that liked me were less expensive! I’m being highly spammed here by iced tea, btw! 🙂
Yep, I’m gonna stay with Chocolate Crepe and Napoleon, love ’em!
Enjoy 😀
Spice Cake is my favorite I think.
Yay!
The NYX Intense Butter Glosses are my fave lip gloss formula ever! I have Spice Cake and Berry Strudel and would totally buy more, but I already have so many other glosses to go through. BTW, Berry Strudel applies completely opaque and smooth in one stroke for me, so I didn’t experience any of the streakiness that you did, but maybe some batches are better than others
I really like them! I like them more than the original formula myself, haha.
I grabbed a trio of these: Napoleon, Sorbet, and Toasted Marshmallow. Nice price point for a gloss and these look great.
The price is fantastic, and it’s nice to see opaque gloss that doesn’t turn into a mess!
Thank you so much for posting all the swatches. I recently became obsessed with nyx Butter Gloss and I am in search of more pigments that fit my skin tone. This was almost too helpful because I want them all now. lol. BTW i am extremely impressed with your blog it is the best I have seen so far.
No problem! xoxo
Thank you so much for bringing attention to one of Nyx’s more steller offerings, Christine! It is, IMHO, one of the absolute best of the DS/LE brands out here for sure. Upon your review, I did get Apple Crisp and I love it! Now I am going to probably also get: Toasted Marshmallow, Tres Leches, Spice Cake, Chocolate Crepe and Berry Strudel ( this last one to put over Nyx Purple Rain Slim Lip Pencil)!
My pleasure, Nancy! Apple Crisp is such a great red!
Toasted Marshmallow is gorgeous!
It’s a pretty shade!
I held off on these because I was worried they’d be too opaque and paint-like. Glad to see that’s not the case!
I think you’ll like these! The glossiness gives them more dimension.
When you first reviewed a few of these a while back, they went on BOGO half sale at Ulta so I grabbed almost all of them. I really like gloss. The only ones I can think of that I do not have are Sorbet and Banana Split. They are pretty fantastic.. are really fun and pigmented.
They’re so affordable and so richly pigmented – many of them don’t turn streaky!
i’m not a gloss girl but berry strudel looked quite interesting, how sad it got a C
It is an interesting shade!
Black Cherry and Toasted Marshmallow look REALLY nice, but Black Cherry looks potentially fussy.
Some of the darker shades aren’t as easily applied as more of the mid-tone ones for sure.
Toasted marshmallow is speaking to me! (Odd name for it though, lol) I know I love deep muted rose colors with a hint of brown because I have AT LEAST five lipsticks in this shade. Oops. But maybe. Someday.
It is an unusual name, lol!
Black Cherry Tart – yep that’s the one for me.
Yay!
These are pretty. I really wish they would cut back on fragrance though. I’d love to try these but after using the regular Lipgloss and not being able to stand wearing it because of the persistent scent in not going to bother.
Totally understand! I’m not a fan of a lot of the drugstore/budget brand scents 🙁
I really enjoyed this line too. I know it’s pretty soon but I’m looking forward to seeing some new shades. I already own most of these and wouldn’t mind collecting more lol. My faves are Spice Cake, Toasted Marshmallow and Black Cherry Tart
I hope they’ll add more, too!
Spice Cake looks lovely. And I wasn’t interested in Toasted Marshmallow until now!
I still haven’t ownws any of these intense butter glosses yet, but I will. I like how some shades are muted instead of being super neon.
Me too! It’s nice to get variety in colors.
Napoleon, Chocolate and Orangesicle my favorites, I like these Butter Intense glosses, very pigmented lipstick, so creamy, satiny and smooth.
Me too! I like how pigmented they are.
I kinda like the color of black cherry tart. For $6, it’s not such a huge risk if I end up not liking it.
Hope you end up liking it, though!
