Sneak Peek: MAC Dazzleshadow Photos & Swatches

MAC Dazzleshadow
MAC Dazzleshadow

MAC Dazzleshadow ($21.00 for 0.03 oz.) is a new eyeshadow formula launching online on June 11th (in-stores on June 18th and July 2015 internationally) in the Le Disko collection, which also features five shades of Dazzleglasses (two are new, which I don’t have). There are twelve Dazzleshadows in all, and I have eleven to share with you (I don’t have I Like 2 Watch). I’m still testing the formula, so check back for full reviews later this week. One of mine (Boom Boom Room) arrived broken/shattered, so I dry-pressed it back into form, and each eyeshadow came with a small piece of paper inside the container that warned these were fragile. MAC confirmed this morning that the collection is limited edition.

OMG, the colors are so pretty and sparkly, but I’m worried about fall-out all over my face. And at $21 each (same price as MUFE), the ratings better be there . I’m eyeing Try Me On….

I take it your applying these dry than wet? Are these a reformulated Electric Cool shadows, but dryer or more like makeup geeks foiled eyeshdaows (Which I just order all 20 of and they are on their way. lol )

I thought these were going to be more like the Urban Decay Stargaze formula but these seem more glittery with larger shimmer particles and more wet/gel like formula.

Christine Avatar

I did both, because it felt like that type of texture that would permit it, though MAC doesn’t say they are a wet/dry formula (I didn’t get the full info on the formula until about an hour ago, and I swatched these yesterday).

This is what MAC said they were:

“Exceptional, sparkling shadows offer a mix of unique colors and finishes that stand out from the crowd, providing maximum shelf appeal. Rich pigments adhere to the lid, remaining true to the color you see in the pan, imparting eyes with beautiful, twinkling sheen. Innovative liquidform ‘bridge’ texture creates the perfect union of a cream and powder. Unique formula creates a multi-dimensional, reflective surface leaving lids looking dazzling yet delicate. Performance driven liquidform texture allows for superior adhesion and performance, minimizing fallout and giving a brilliance not found in a traditional pressed eye shadow.”

Andrew Avatar

Is it just me, or do these look super gritty and prone to fallout? I’m sure they sparkle like the dickens, but I hardly doubt they’re worth it. The fact that MAC has to include a note warning of their fragility shows just how much glitter they packed into this formula. Maybe if they were primer-infused or a cream instead of powder it would help bind everything together and not only help the copious amounts of glitter adhere to the skin but also take care of them being so fragile.

This launch just seems like a total miss to me. The colors remind me of a fall collections, the finishes remind me of a holiday collection, and the packaging is the same-old basic MAC. Boo, MAC. Just BOO!

Kat Avatar

I was just about to comment that! I have one of the UD ones and it looks very similar swatched – surprisingly sheer base with BOOM glitter. I’m sure these would be good over top a more pigmented shadow, which is how I use the UD one.

Lotus Avatar

Ahhhh THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS! I can easily pass.. Wallet spared! 😀 But how sad for MAC.. I was really hoping to see something WONDERFUL! Again, wallet happy. What’s wrong, MAC? Pffft

Blue Avatar

Hm, I love the effect for photos but these look a little gritty and seem like they would be very prone to fall out for real life use. Would you say these are comparable to UD’s Moon Dust shadows, Christine?

Still totally digging the 70s thing that a lot of brands seem to be drawing inspiration from this summer. I’m all about disco.

Mariella Avatar

Most of these are really gorgeous. Pigmentation seems excellent on most of them (judging by the swatches) and even those with less than amazing pigmentation are such great shades. Boom Boom is the only one that looks “questionable” but the rest – “yeah, baby” (just trying to keep with the disco theme).

Nancy T Avatar

My bank account is about to have a nervous breakdown! These are so BREATHTAKING!!! I know I want several of these even though I know there WILL be the dreaded fallout!

Beti Avatar

They remind me of the MAC Pressed Pigments but a touch sparklier. I like the look of Boom Boom, I think it would be great for adding sparkle to a brown smoky eye.

jazz Avatar

For 21 bucks per eyeshadow, these had better get good reviews. If not, I’m sticking with MUFE. They do look gorgeous. However , I can see this being a mess for someone with itchy, allergy ridden eyes

Rachel R. Avatar

Well, they look absolutely stunning. But chunky glitter AND they’re fragile: That makes me wonder if there is enough base to hold the sparkles together. I’m thinking they’ll need glitter glue primer. I’m eager to see the reviews. If these aren’t good, I’d rather get more of the Extra Dimension shadows. I finally got Fathoms Deep and Grand Galaxy, and I must say they’re everything I hoped and more. <3

Lauren Avatar

I was really admiring Feel the Fever, when I realized it looks almost exactly the same as Fathoms Deep from last year’s summer collection. I bet this is an even prettier, more sparkly version. These are so tempting! I’ll probably get a few to play around with, just for fun. Hope these don’t have too much fallout!

Ashley Avatar

although some of these do look rather gritty… my love for both MAC and glitter/sparkle will probably win me and my bank account over… lol i really wish they would have added some dazzle lipsticks to this collection it seems like the perfect collection for that finish… i feel like i might be the only one who was in love with their dazzle lipsticks as i have read so many bad reviews on em i guess that might be why 🙁 maybe one day they will release some more…. *fingers crossed. 😉

Nicole Avatar

Some of these are really pretty. But, I am wondering if they are better off as “eye candy” for me. I just have a feeling there is going to be a lot of fall out going on here. You can see it in the swatches. I won’t be buying until reviews are if I do and with the LE status, chance are they are going to be gone. Plus, $21 a piece tomorrow..eh. Mac.. Idk why you kick yourself like this? Make good quality permanent products. I think I would rather invest in my mufe shadows that I know will work.

Alana Avatar

These shadows look like one of those formulas that look a lot better in person than in photos. Kind of like the pressed pigments Mac has. When I saw these Dazzleshadows I was like hmmm…..aren’t these pretty much like the pressed pigments? Of course they’re different somehow but the formula looks really similar along with that crumbly/gritty nature. I’m looking forward to the review!

Makeup Tray Avatar

I am getting the sense from looking at these, not all age groups and eyelids are going to be able to wear this collection and pull it off. If you are in your teens and early 20s you will be able to carry this off. It just seems like it’s catering to the younger demographic with all the sparkle and shimmer.

Judith Avatar

Christine i bought a couple of these shadows and I would like to put them in mac palette, are they compatible as they have less product, maybe the pan wount fit? Thanks for your help !
