2nd. I have enough pretty neutral and gray-neutral shimmers that the mattes have to look great too and these are… kind of sheer, patchy, and not super useful looking? I was hoping that like all of them would be more midtoned (AHEM PASSWORD, THIRTEEN, COMBUST)rather than really light or functionally deep. And of the shimmers the only one I love is Armor. Huge pass on this for me. The packaging is pretty at least.

Blue Avatar

That’s good to hear. I have light skin and use a transition/crease a good couple shades deeper than the way Combust looks swatched. It would be a matte flesh tone on me, and I’d assumed even lighter for most people so not usful for most looks. I was actually eying all three of the matte shades I mentioned above as transition colors so I was so sad that none of them are the depth I was hoping for! I still have my WOS and Foxy sitting around, you know? lol. It’s good to hear other people get use out of very light colors like that.

Tami Avatar

ME too!! I would love for them to do an all matte. I love the basics 1 & 2 but 2 is more of the “cooler” browns..eh. I want something far more – They do wonderful mattes – This palette looks too much like the others..though I’m a collector so I “might” get it when it arrives to the local stores. Not going to run out and buy it from UD. It’s not thrilling me that much

Katherine T. Avatar

Uh oh. The first few swatches look good, the middle look ok but a little dry, but the last 4 look problematic. What the hell happened to Password? That looks like a shadow from a dollar store

xamyx Avatar

It depends on one’s coloring. This would be the most neutral/”naked” on me, whereas all the others offer far too much of a contrast with my coloring, while blending seamlessly for others.

Veronica Avatar

Password looks like the weakest of the mattes – the rest are just very light and blending into Christine’s skin tone. Which is nice for us pale folk, but they really need to add more darker matte shades for deeper skin tones.

Leah Avatar

Not sure how I feel about this yet,,,,,,,I feel like the format is a little strange, and I usually look like a corpse in cool toned shades. The shimmers are gorgeous, but the mattes look underwhelming. Looking forward to your review, Christine. You are always on top of it.

Megz Avatar

Password and Whiskey look like major drama queens to work with!

I’ll stick to their original Smoked palette. Wouldn’t mind if that one could be packaged in the Naked style though!

Kalli Avatar

Oh this does look nice. I have the Black palette from a few years ago, but I always thought it was too dark for anything other than evening. This looks infinitely more wearable for day-to-day. I have an Ulta giftcard and about $17 in points so maybe I’ll cash all that in to get this 😀

Mags Avatar

I feel like I should be excited but now that I see the swatches my excitment is down … I like the matte shadows, it’s nice to have 4 instead of the usual 2-3 in the other naked palettes … but I feel like it’s the same thing AGAIN.

Dani Avatar

GIVE ME. OMG, I think I’m in love already. July is just too far for me – and I don’t even do smoky eyes often enough….maybe i will now!

Sarah Avatar

*Drools* Gimme, gimme!

But for real, I’m just glad to see it’s $54 like the others, and that UD isn’t trying to sneak in some price hike. That would be not okay. -.-

Sarah Avatar

Hmmmm some of these I adore, some of them look slightly unimpressive (whiskey :/). I’ll probably wait for a review before buying it. Still liking the compilation color wise of this more than Smoked. I’d probably use the two together when I want to add a bit of color in!

Yuan Avatar

can’t wait for the review! like some others, I think this one is a lot like the original palette. so it would be great to have another side by side comparison! thank you for the swatches Christine!

xamyx Avatar

As much as I love the Smoked palette, I don’t use it as often as I should, due to the b packaging… At least I can house this one with the rest of my Naked palettes, which I keep more readily available, and remember to actually use it!

Tasneema Avatar

I just saw this on your instagram and basically squealed like a little girl at work, can’t wait to get my hands on this!

Kat Avatar

The packaging is soooooo gorgeous (I like the Naked packaging, hate the Naked 2 and 3 packaging) but I have very similar shadows for all the ones I’d use, and there’s a bunch that are pretty but I’d never end up using 🙁

Brittany Avatar

I really thought UD was going to be done with Naked everything, but I guess they’re still squeezing some more out. 😛 It’s not for me, really. The shimmery shades look really nice and smooth, but I already have Naked 2 which only gets used once in a while, especially now that I got the KVD Shade Light Eye palette. I tend to wear colors more than neutrals.

Mckenzie Avatar

I’m not sure why this is called “Naked Smokey”. It’s kind of an oxymoron. I’m not loving those mattes, personally, and there’s not that many, just like every other Naked palette. I don’t think I need this, nor do I really want it. I prefer to buy palettes I will get a lot of use out of, and I don’t find myself getting much use out of this palette. I think I’ll pass. But thank you for sharing these swatches, some of the best swatches around as always! Mckenzie 🙂

Nicole Avatar

I’m super excited for this! I hope the review goes well. I have all of the other Naked palettes. I plan to get this one as soon as it is released, unless it doesn’t do well. I don’t like a total dark smoky look. But, I think with shadows, and no liner, the look can be softer. I want this now! I’m glad they got it out early for reviews! That is so respectable. Thanks for getting this Christine and reviewing and posting the swatches..you da bomb girl! :D!

xamyx Avatar

This seems to have the same vibe as the Kat von D Innerstellar palette, but tht’s fine by me! I can’t wait to actually have this in my stash; it’s what I hoped Naked 2 would be…

Cecilia Avatar

“Meh” was kind of my reaction when I saw the promo, and more so now that I see the swatches. The hoarder in me wouldn’t mind having it, but I feel like I already have this palette in my collection. For every look someone makes with the Naked Smoky, I can find a darn near close to similar look using the Naked 1 palette and Smoked palette.

Adhishree Avatar

This looks promising, I like the look of some of these shades but I REALLY wish there was a black in here. Just a standard matte black because HELLO? SMOKY PALETTE! The black would really give some intensity to bring out many of the colours on here.

Yadira Avatar

Hey Christine!

Are these made with UD’s new formula? Of course I want it, (I already have 1, 2, and 3). BUT it would be awesome if they UD’s new formula, although it looks like they are not from some of the swatches.

Veronica Avatar

This is the first palette they’ve released that I actually thought had a good balance of warm and cooler toned shades. I might have to seriously consider going after this, even though I’m not a huge smokey eye girl.

Staci Avatar

I’m almost hoping for a bad review so I don’t have to buy it. God knows I don’t need any more eyeshadow. I still really want this. Damn you UD.

Susan Dowman Nevling Avatar

Love these colors and will get it ASAP! I also mix the neutrals with a bit of the neon palette to kick it up a notch. I had the Smoked palette but my granddaughter begged for it so I gave it to her. I normally apply these wet and then blend a bit after it dries. Works well for me.

Maggie Avatar

Smoulder, High and Armor are lovely. I think I have Armor and High is hopefully not too hard to dupe. Smoulder….maybe they’ll put out a single. Either way, I don’t think I’ll be hauling the palette–I was looking forward to the mattes bc I KNOW Urban Decay can do better than that.

Genna Avatar

I really didn’t want to love this palette , but I do, I totally do! Especially after seeing it swatched with the other renditions of the Nakeds… it is so much better than I thought it was going to be. I think my resolve against this has weakened considerably- lol! Thank you for the sneak peek!!!!

Rachel R. Avatar

The shimmers are quite pretty. Smolder and Armor in particular. Some of the mattes look a little patchy, especially Password. Combust is one of those pretty pinkish nudes I love.

Julie Avatar

Hmmmmm….the actual shades themselves–LOVE. this is so cool toned, which is a total yay for me…but most shades look thinner & drier than usual from UD…. not a deal breaker for me, as long as they apply evenly, but I definitely have CONCERNS!!

Mmme Avatar

I would repurchase the Naked if they packaged it like this… when will they ever do that? I have been waiting since Naked 2.

Kira Avatar

There is one Givenchy swatch in the swatch gallery link you posted for this palette.

Your Naked palette master list was so, so incredible! I now want Naked 3, and await your review of Smoky. If the textures hold up, I’m not sure I can resist. This one is so sultry and I’m already dreaming up combinations for how I would use it.

charlotte Avatar

Now we know why they discontinued the Smokes palette…
Wish they had put in a nice blue and or a green, but I love the purple and the black is nice, not your usual black. Also love how they included some nice lid shades if you want to go with a lighter lid. Password looks pretty rough though. Honestly I think I like the old Smokes better.

Brittany Avatar

I wanted to let you know that there is an article on Buzzfeed about the Smoky Palette. There are two pictures used that are accredited to Instagram users but the actual pictures ones that you took. I’ve included the link below.

I thought at first that I was going to pass on this. I just retired and will be on a “fixed income” Bla Bla Bla. However I think after seeing the swatches I will have to get this one also. By the time it comes out to in store you should have a thorough review. Very curious to see how you like it. And btw thanks for all the hard work you put into this site.

WARPAINTandUnicorns Avatar

I look forward to the review, but seeing these swatches first made me excited….

I’m crossing my finger those 2 mattes are workable ay least because it’s the first 12 pan naked palette that have a pale matte highlight shade that I can use with my fair skin. (Most of the other highlight shades match or a touch darker on me. lol )

Password looks sad and Whiskey I expect more because the liner shade is just sooo perfect.

Either way I’ll have to wait till it’s available through Sephora probably in July. 😉

Lotus Avatar

Speaking from other reviews and my own personal collection, I feel no need to purchase this for hoarding reasons. On the other hand, it is turning out to be a marvous piece for beginners! It has a little bit of everything neutral in it, as well as various finishes, and I think it will adapt well on most skin colors! It’s not for me, I have far too much already, but I’m glad there will be 1 Naked UD Palette that can please everybody a little bit, especially if you’re starting out or have not experienced anything from UD & would like to! 🙂 Enjoy! 😀

Lotus Avatar

Oh wow.. This seems like the colors in the first Lorac Pro Palette! *Just noticed* HAHA! Interesting! I LOVE the Lorac! The texture is superb! And the price is better! 😀

Carrie Avatar

Black Market and Smolder are so beautiful! Password looks disappoibting though 🙁 I just know I’ll end up getting this though

Ceranna Avatar

Easy pass for me. Nothing in this palette feels “new”, like tge first half makes me think of my naked1, and some of those mattes are not up to my liking. But hey, I’m glad other people are excited fir it!

Nancy T Avatar

Upon seeing these swatches my excitement has diminished somewhat. Password and Whiskey appear quite splotchy, so that’s pretty disappointing considering that UD FINALLY gave us a Naked with 4 matte shades. Oh, and 4 satins which is really nice too. But I will wait and see how this baby works in practice for you and then your subsequent review afterwards. I am so very much hoping it works better than some of the swatches would forbode.

Mike Avatar

My gf has been raving about this for awhile and I finally got the hint. She already has the previous Naked palettes which I think look beautiful on her and seeing her evolve with her makeup techniques throughout the years has been quite stunning. Can’t wait to pick this up for her, she definitely deserves it!!

I spoke with someone from Urban and she said if you miss it out online on July 8 (Pacific Standard Time) , Sephora will have it online on the 12th and in stores the 16th which is good cause I know how these kinda things sell online. Hope you ladies get your palettes!
