MAC Spring Colour Forecast Review & Round-up
Note: I’ve bumped up this post as the official, in-store launch, is NOW UPON US! Spring Colour Forecast launches today, the 11th, in-stores in North America. 🙂 Share your hauls!!
OVERALL, I think Spring Colour Forecast is so large that you’re bound to find at least one or two things that appeal to you. (If you don’t, kudos to you, and I want some of whatever you’re drinking!) It’s hard to pick must-haves, because it still ends up rattling off like a laundry list of products, so I’m just going to go with it, and you can pick and choose depending on what kind of budget you’re on. I know some of you have been saving up for this collection since last year! I do, personally, think MAC went a bit overboard with this collection–it’s just so, so enormous. There are too many products to look at, and I think the rumor about them releasing one per week may have given people an opportunity to feast and enjoy… rather than feast and DEVOUR!
The release date is officially February 11th, but since it’s already online, it may have been moved up by a week to February 4th. Call your local store either today (2/3) or tomorrow (2/4) to see if they’re putting it out early. I’ve asked around, and I’ve only been able to confirm February 11th, but sometimes these are really last minute changes! But call first, so you don’t waste a trip. 🙂

Truly huge collection!! I’m really impressed with the lipsticks and I think I might cave on Fresh Salmon… but I probably have to go try it on since lustres have a tendency to not show up on my lips. I’m also super lemming the gold quad. Wish the blushes were a bit more impressive though.

wow! it’s amazing that you got through all of those so quickly! the lilyland and the all races all colours collections only just launched in the uk, so i’ve still got those to keep me busy… 🙂
i just placed an order for mostly neutrals…i might get a couple of the lilyland blushes, but it’ll have to depend on how my wallet feels later this month!
i think considering how extensive the spring forecast collection is, its a relief after seeing your reviews, i can probably knock most of the lip products off my list…but that still leaves quite a bit! i was writing a running list as i went through your posts…and it. is. massive.
anyway, thanks very much for these very helpful posts! it will be interesting to see how you incorporate the colours into new looks for spring.

Hi Christine! I was wondering if you know of dupes for the lipsticks and blush ombres from the pink collection and the coral collection? Unfortunetly I am behind on paying bills which all my money will be going to catching up so I wont be able to get anything from this collection..I am so bummed 🙁 so please any dupes from past collections or the permanent line, please let me know.
The blushes have a very interesting texture that makes then unlike MAC’s permanent blush range. They’re more matte, I guess. As far as the lipsticks go, here are the dupes that come to mind, but just know that they’re not 100% similar (not even 80% in most cases)… Pink Burst = Impassioned, Bubblegum = Snob; Laugh-a-lot = Plumful; Phlox = none; Radicchio = Plumful, Rose Maiden = Costa Chic; Fresh Salmon = See Sheer; Victorian = Pink Nouveau; Colour Me Coral = none

Christine – I rely on your website so much! I hadn’t even realized how much until I was on the phone with MACPro in San Francisco this morning and I WOULD NOT order until I saw the lip swatches on your site. I actually called them back – I needed to wait until I could see them and read what you had to say! So first things first, THANK YOU!
I ended up getting away without spending much money at all. I ordered Electric Fuchsia and Almondine lipglasses (I generally don’t care for lipglasses but I told myself last week I would give them another shot and these seem like a good place to start). The only other thing I grabbed was Hot Hot Hot eyeshadow.
Thankfully (for my bank account) nothing really struck me as “I have to have it!” I’m a lipstick FREAK but I like a lot of color and these just felt so-so to me (but what do I know, I’m wearing blue LipMix on my lips today) LOL!
I’m interested in the Blush Ombres but will wait until the collection launches to take a look at them in person at my local MAC store. They’ve already got two strikes against them: I like PIGMENTED blushes and I don’t like things that have to be kept in compacts (I prefer palettes). So we’ll see, I might just save my money for the blushes in the Too Fabulous collection – If I’m going to buy something JUST because it looks cool, they’ll definitely be on my list 🙂

The woman at MAC said that there are a lot of really cool products coming out this summer that are probably more up my alley (bright, opaque colors, etc.) So I’ll be saving… Who am I kidding… I’ll be spending my money on other things until then 🙂
I will say this: the 130 brush that’s coming out this month? Oh yeah, I’m getting AT LEAST two of those puppies! 🙂 I’m hoping it’s the bastard offspring of a 188 and 109 brush – If so I’m all over that!!! 🙂

I have the 130 from the mineralize collection that it came out its awesome! a lil smaller then the 109 becuz the 109 gets fluffy afte uses.
I got to take a look at the 130 brush the other day at MAC (couldn’t buy yet of course). It’s quite cool – I have it on my list for the 18th 🙂

I’m hoping to do B2M for a couple of these, if I’m lucky….
I’ve only been into MAC since Dame Edna was released, and I wasn’t really into spending much on makeup way back then, so it’s different now I guess. But this is still the first collection I’ve wanted a huge ton from. The most I have from any other one collection is a lipglass, MSF, brush and 5 eyeshadows from BBR (mostly collected from CCOs). From this? I probably won’t get more than 3-4 items, but I’m gonna have to choose from:

Hey Christine do u know when this is all going to be launched? Is it this Thursday or the 11th?
As far as I know, it’s still February 11th, but it is really unusual for it to go online more than a few days before it goes out in-store. I’d probably call your local store this Wednesday to ask. I’m still waiting to hear back from MAC on whether they moved the date up.

Hey Christine! Loved your review! Went to the release party last night and left with both quads, nanogold, hot Hot hot, and cha cha. The purple quad is going back. It was an impluse purchase. Nice colors but not unique. Instead I’m picking up straw harvest and maybe hush hush rose.
I agree it’s way too much for one collection. I felt overwhelmed!

The lipsticks, i really haven’t started thinking about too much, since they always look so different on, it’ll just be “whichever one jumps out at me most”. I also don’t use a lot of lip glasses, but could be tempted if it looks really awesome.
I doubt I’ll buy ALL of that, i’m sure some of them I will dislike the texture, or they won’t be as easy to work wtih as I want, or something. But those are the ones i know i want a serious look at!

Both? Its the anniversary, so the boy promised to get me some stuff from it. i haven’t asked what his budget is, but I’m assuming I may end up putting my own money into it too, and thats OK.
I honestly could just use a pick me up right now, so a huge haul sounds awesome! Particularly since I placed my first order with Fyrinae and that has another 3 weeks till it comes(they custom MAKE the makeup after you order, it looks really cool).
Instant gratification FTW though!
Side note-do you know anywhere that sells medium quantities of the little metal pans for pressing pigments? Like, 30-50? THe one site I found had them either 15, or 100. I just want somewhere in between that, heh.

Eyeshadows: Rosy outlook for sure and maybe lala * very violet.
I love all the lipsticks but seeing as how most have warm/gold tint to them I can’t get away with it. I am very fair and teeth are NOT very white *blushes* so it’s very hard for me to find a lip color that doesn’t bring out the yellow in my teeth.
I picked up the Warm me Up lipstick and it’s not working because of that =(
I’m thinking I may need to go with cooler toned lipsticks.

This collection is crazy! I want SO MUCH in it, and there’s never been a time when I was more poor and unable to buy any. It’s so hard! Why do they do this to us? Why such a HUGE collection and one right after another? They know there’s die-hard collectors out there that’ll pay whatever to get it all and it’s hard times right now. I know they’re trying to make money, but damn! It sucks for the rest of us.
But it IS awesome that they sent it all to you! At least because of that, we all get good swatches (you’re the queen ‘o swatches, girl!) and get to see things close up!
But I have to ask, it seems like in the past you always had to buy the stuff, is this the first time they sent you the whole collex gratis? If so, it’s nice to see a good blogger getting free samples so that we get a chance to see all this stuff! (unlike when they send to beauty magazines and it just gets wasted)
I don’t know why! I really think they could have split it up a bit more so everyone had more time to save their pennies, LOL!

I think there’s gotta be a glitch… that is bizarre. I don’t even know if *anything* has sold out on the U.S. site yet! I went through the first two parts on the website, and everything said “add to bag!”
Should hit stores February 11th, but I’d probably double-check and call today just in case!
I remember this happened before. Basically, if the items aren’t in stock when they’re placed on the web site, they are always listed as “sold out”. They seem to be OK now. (Although they won’t be in physical stores until the 11th.)
I was shocked to see the CND website sold out too. I called MAC in Scarborough and spoke with the MAC in the underground mall at RBC Tower in Toronto and they said launch is still February 11. Not sure why they are teasing us with this online SOLD OUT business… 🙁
I think it is because it has not officially launched yet? that was my guess when I was looking at it yesterday, that they have all the product on the site for you to look at, but will not make it available to buy on the site until the 11th??

Im trying to be good and not buy anything …but since Im taking my GREs today AND its my birthday month that may not happen. I want the purple lipglass , but I generally hate the formula of the lipglass ( actually I hate all of macs lipglosses ). I still want the pigment stacks , but I doubt if I use them

Erm….not to be a horrible *old* person, but I am a bit uncomfortable that a 13 year old has so much makeup and is buying more…as in a few comments above this one. I can’t help it..i’m a social worker.
I’m new to Mac but the site is confusing me. It says that ChaCha is Mid-tone pink with gold pearl and Hush Hush is Mid-tone blue pink with pearl.
However from yr swatches it seems the opposite? ChaCha looks more cool tones with pink and fuscia while hush Hush more goldenish?
Do I have to go to the eye doctor again?

I just made my order on line. Normally I wait for the in store shopping, but thanks to the swathes this time I didn’t have to. I couldn’t wait till 11th and since I did my on line order before 11 am it will be delivered by tomorrow! YAY! I got:

Very nice haul!
I did get my order and I love it all!!! I was afraid that since I shopped on line I wouldn’t like some of the stuff, but it is all very nice! All the blushes are very pretty and very unique, the shadows are so very pigmented and versatile, and lipstick are very nice. This is probably the first mac collection where I liked almost all lipsticks and lip glasses. I am very happy!

Oh Em Gee!! Only just went through all of this stuff, I want so much of it soo bad, made a list of all I wanted and calculated the cost of it on my lunch break today… its almost an entire months rent!! good lord!! Pinks, bronzes and purples are my biggest weakness… so this collection really knocks that on the head!! I haven’t decided if the fact that the collection launches the same day I get my wisdom teeth pulled is a good thing or not… not being able to go and spend money = good, not being able to go play with it = bad… :S

I wandered over to the Mac counter in Macys in NYC last week (ok, it wasn’t wandering I went there with a purpose! lol) and one of the makeup artists told me that the 3-day event is starting this Thursday (2/11). Needless to say I will be there b/c the best way to keep from buying stuff is to swatch them on my skin. Then again, the stuff may look great on me and I’ll be in real trouble!
Christine, went to the unveiling at Nordstrom last night and really pigged out. I got all the coral and pink collection shadows, lipsticks and blushes. I also bought the 4 stack pigments. Awesome Awesome Awesome! I wasn’t too impressed with the purple and amber quads but the Ombres left me yearning. It was so much fun!

Do you think a backup of any of the lipsticks or lipglasses is neccesary? I was thinking victorian and maybe ember glow.
It really depends on whether you’re going to use it a lot, you know? I’ve learned to not really buy backups unless it’s a HG… and even then I rarely do so–just because I know that it’s sooo unlikely I’ll get to a back up.
AHH!! I REALLY want Purple Rage, Hush Hush Rose and Cha Cha, but I literally just got six new lipglasses like last week…
Some of those lipsticks are nice, too, but I know I’d never wear them if I bought them since I’m prejudiced against lipsticks, haha. I like the colour 4 quad too, but I feel like I already have similar dupes for every single one of the colours.
Oddly enough I am totally meh about the blushes, and I normally love blushes.

Did you try smoothing the pigments on the back of your hand? I found that’s what worked best for me (though I normally dump pigment onto my hand to apply, so it wasn’t a big deal for me!).
Just picked up Ripe Peach blush ombre, Kumquat lipglass, Radicchio lipstick, Fresh Salmon lipstick, …..and Feline Kohl Power & Viva Glam Cyndi! Love EVERYTHING! 😀
Ugh – I just hauled purple rage, rose maiden (LOVE and am contemplating a back-up), and pink burst. And I also got VIva Cyndi. When I go back I’ll probably get bronzilla, hush hush rose, and try out fresh salmon and raddicio… I am not quite sure whether the stacks are worth it for me because I already have somewhat duplicable colors – but I really like them. The makeup artist said that they don’t crease all day… but everything creases on me even with UDPP so I’m not very optimistic.
The pigments don’t crease? I haven’t heard that before, LOL.
I would expect them to crease unless you used/applied them with mixing medium (whether by MAC or homemade).
Yeah, I didn’t know that would be a selling point on the stackables. She could just be one of those lucky people nothing creases on 🙁
And FYI, on the MAC website, a couple of your ‘must-have’ recommendations are sold out – bubblegum and electric fuschia. I guess they could just be the standout colors anyways but I think your recommendations did it 🙂 I would have been lost looking at everything in store without your review first! I doubt I’m the only one 😛

the mua told me that you dont need a base for the pigments because they are sticky . Idk that just sounds weird

Glad I swatched. Straw harvest was too yellow on me, wasn’t thrilled with nanogold. the Peach blush was WAY too orange on my pink paleness. Decided very violet is similar to the vibrant grape that isn’t limited edition, and lala is similar to a few of the pinks I already own from other lines.
I just went with tones I had the least of.
I also loved laughalot lipstick, and rose maiden(?) lipstick. Really tried to weed though. I totally broke my budget!

Thank goodness the snowstorm has let up. I was determined to go out and get this haul today!!! I ended up getting Laugh A Lot l/s, Fresh Salmon l/s, Victorian l/s, Ember Glow l/g, Kumquat l/g, Cha Cha l/g, LaLa e/s, Hot Hot Hot e/s. I might go back to take a second look at the rest of the collection I had the rugrats with me and couldn’t concentrate. I also got Lady Gaga l/s and Brush 219. I’m so excited. Oh by the way my BF surprised me and bought everything as an early V-day gift!!!

I’m thinking about getting Fresh Salmon and Azalea Blossom before they’re sold out. I would’ve gotten Colour Me Coral, but it sounds so similar to Costa Chic.

Going to MAC was the only good thing that happened today (super late bus = late to class = almost the weekend – anticipation of 2week Olympic break = tired).
I was so excited today. My MAC counter had a Warm&Cozy event (2 months after the release is weird) so the place was buzzing.

I went yesterday to macys and got the Electric fushia lipglass . Nothing else really caught my eye. I originally wanted the pigments , but I felt that the packaging is something that I would get from walmart . The Electric Fushia lipglass truly is flattering , its so cute on my brown skin with naturally pink lips

OK, so my wallet hates me now. did a huge haul last night and am pretty happy all around. thanks again christine for so many detailed notes and recommendations- it really helped me figure out what i wanted. (and, in fact, i was right in all cases but one- the victorian lipstick just looked awful on me, seemed to go very organe-y for some reason *sob*.) trying out the colour 4 quad today with the viva glam cyndi lipstick.

i know! i even went back and tried it on again today w/ my boyfriend (he’s surprisingly god with the opinions), in the hopes that it was just the lighting. no go. picked up the two viva glams instead.
Do you ever take into consideration darker skintones when creating these posts? i.e. NC/NW 40 or darker?
Seems like the recs are all for the pale/medium tones.
I recommend products that are high quality – well pigmented, deliver where they should, and/or creative/different etc. – I don’t think about skin tones at all when I make recommendations.
Just bought Laugh-A-Lot, Purple Rage, and the bronzey warm eyeshadow quad! Thank you for the swatches — they help narrow the search and focus when it’s such a big collection!!!

So I actually didn’t get as much as I thought I would. I ordered (and just got today) Perky, Rosy Outlook, Nanogold and Straw Harvest e/s, Gold Dust and Culture Class l/g and Phlox lipstick. I swatched everything else in store and nothing really appealed to me. I tried on Colour Me Coral and it was WAY to frosty, a lil’ TOO early 80’s!!! Maybe if i was more tanned. I disliked the blushes, I prefer much more clear colours so I passed.
I did like Laugh a Lot and Raddichio (sp?) but I don’t wear that much medium to bright coloured lipstick so I passed.
I really do like Phlox for that reason (being a glaze) and layered with Culture Clash it’s a beautiful clear spring pink 🙂
I am so getting Phlox, Lavender Wind and Cultreclash lip products. Yes, yes, I know phlox is super sheer, but it has red, purple and blue reflects glitter in it! But this collection is just too big, good thing I don’t wear eyeshadows. Thanks for all the swatches and everything, keep up the good work 🙂

This was a good week for me and MAC!
I was really drawn to the purples of Forecast 3, but when I checked them out in the store, the pinks were better for me.
I ended up buying Blush Ombre in Azalea Blossom; Lipglass in Electric Fuchsia; Crush Metal Pigments Stacked 1; Mineralize Foundation; and from last year’s Rose Romance, Beauty Powder in Blush of Youth.
Does anyone know when/if this collection is going to be released in Australia/New Zealand? I’ve been waiting for so long!
